Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite Books from the Past Ten Years

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature that was created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Born from a love of lists and a love of books each week there’s a new topic for bloggers to list their ‘top ten’.

Top Ten Favourite Books from the Past Ten Years

I can barely remember what I had for dinner last week, so trying to remember what my favourite book was back in 2010, or even just back last year, was a challenge. And that’s saying nothing of the fact that I could only pick one per year. I managed to narrow it down in the end, but I had to make some tough choices but I did stick to just ten. I doubt many of the books on my list this week will be a surprise, because it wouldn’t be a list of my favourite books if I didn’t include some of these.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Plan to Re-Read this Year

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I Decided to DNF too Quickly.

I mentioned this in a previous Top Ten Tuesday post I took part in; I rarely DNF books, and I certainly haven’t DNF-ed enough of them to come up with ten for this week’s theme. Instead for this week I decided to go in the opposite direction, and instead of talking about the books I hated enough to DNF I’m talking about the books I loved enough to re-read.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Loved but Will Never Re-Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I Loved but Will Never Re-Read.

I’ve done a lot of re-reading so far this year, and although the ten books I’ve featured this week are books I don’t see myself picking up again anytime soon that’s not to say I won’t ever re-read them one day in the future. I’m a mood reader so I can never tell what I’m going to fancy reading from one day to the next, but these are all books I know I won’t be re-reading anytime soon that I can say for sure.

Emoji Book Tag

I’ve done this tag before, but given how many emojis there are I can take part as many times as there are emojis left unused. I’m not one for using many emojis, other than hearts and smile-y faces, so I picked some of the more obscure ones out there. I was tagged by Sophie at Blame Chocolate. Thanks so much for the tag Sophie, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

The Emoji Book Tag

The rules for this tag are simple; pick five emoji’s and then pick five books that fit them.

Discussion Time: Where are all the Parents in YA Books?

A few months ago I wrote about the types of relationships I’d like to see more of in YA books, and unsurprisingly parent/child relationships was the first one on that list. While the YA contemporary genre has a wide variety of amazingly written and developed parent/child relationship, in fantasy books there tends to be case after case where the parents are long gone.

After a while when you’ve read the same thing over and over again in the introduction, almost a footnote to the main character development, you start to wonder where all the decent parents are.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books Where the Title IS the Cover

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Unique Book Titles.

When it comes to books the main thing that draws me to them (other than who wrote it when it comes to authors like V.E. Schwab and Marissa Meyer) is the cover. If a book has a pretty cover chances are I’ll immediately pick it up so for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday theme rather than focus on unique titles, because I largely read fantasy so I have a lot of unique titles to choose from, I decided to focus on books where the title is the cover.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Mother/Child Relationships in YA Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is a Mother’s Day related freebie, so I picked Top Ten Mother/Child Relationships in YA Books.

I love seeing strong familial relationships in books, unfortunately in fantasy stories that’s an aspect that seems to be missing. I guess it’s hard to risk your life saving the world when you have a loving family at home worrying for you. Not all of the mother/child relationships I featured this week are happy, loving and perfect, but they were all amazingly written.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Gift Ideas for Book Lovers Part Two

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree.

However because I had trouble coming up with what I thought was an original list, honestly any book I’ve ever featured on a Top Ten Tuesday post of my favourites would be a book I’d love Santa to leave under my tree, I decided to do something a little different. A few weeks ago I did a Top Ten Tuesday post on gift ideas for book lovers and this week I decided to continue with that topic; and have picked ten books to gift people, rather than ten bookish goodies.
