Why Sleep When There Are Still Books to Read
Reading Around the World is a feature that combines my love of travelling with my love of reading. Each month I plan to spotlight either a city I have visited, or a city I plan to visit in the near future, and recommend some of my favourite books set there. After all even if you can’t visit these cities yourself the next best thing has to be reading about them and living the experience through the eyes of the characters.

It took me a while to come up with this back to school/learning freebie topic mostly because when it comes to the books I read most of them are fantasy stories; stories which keep me on the edge of my seat but which offer an escape from the real world. When they’re over that’s it, but every so often there’s a book I pick up which stays with me long after I’ve closed the last page and makes me want to learn more about the topics it’s discussed, and those are the books I’ve featured on this list.

My favourite genre is fantasy, and as well as the names sometimes being hard to pronounce (I know there are a few I’m still pronouncing incorrectly) they’re also pretty kick-ass. Granted names don’t really have much to do with saving the world but an epic name just stands out more, and fantasy is full of epic names.

Not that I’m condoning animal violence or anything, but there are so many books I would kill to get my hands on. Some of my favourite series are coming to an end and some intense cliff hangers will finally be resolved which means 2018 is going to be a good year for books. None of my picks this week are debuts, and chances are very few will be a surprise.

A little while back I did a Top Ten Tuesday post talking about my favourite morally grey characters, and a lot of the comment and responses I got from other bloggers were talking about how their favourite characters weren’t the heroes of their favourite books, but the anti heroes.
And I’m the same. While I loved characters like Ezra in Illuminae, or Kell in A Darker Shade of Magic, I always preferred scenes with AIDAN in, or learning more about Holland’s past. I sometimes enjoyed reading about the morally grey characters more than reading about the heroes, and the more I thought about it the more I wondered why.

The Best Villainous/Morally Grey
Everyone loves villains, there’s a whole anthology devoted to them now. When I saw this week’s open prompt the first thing that came to mind was villainous characters, or more specifically morally grey characters who could never be called heroes but are just out for themselves and make no apologies for what they need to do to achieve their goal. There are some brilliant ones in the books I’ve read, and this is my chance to feature my top ten.
