The Fall Time, Cosy Time Book Tag

You know how it goes, you wait ages for a bus and suddenly three come along at once. It seems to have been the same this month with fall-inspired book tags. Not that I’m complaining; I love both book tags and the fall. I was tagged by Alex at Whimsy Pages. Thanks so much for the tag Alex, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

The Fall Time, Cosy Time Book Tag

Crunching Leaves:
The world is full of colour. Choose a book that has reds/oranges/yellows on the cover.

The Scarecrow Queen by Melinda Salisbury

This was a series I discovered quite late, which in the end I was glad of because it meant I didn’t have to wait long for the third and last book in the trilogy to be released. The Scarecrow Queen was the best of the three, in my opinion, and despite the story not having anything to do with the fall the cover definitely fit the theme.

Cosy Sweater:
It’s finally cold enough to wear warm cosy clothing. What book gives you the warm and fuzzy’s?

A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland

Not only was this a book I loved, but it was a book that really surprised me. I expected a light-hearted and fun, maybe even humorous, story but what I got was much more meaningful than that. A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares has a strong family dynamic, a great sibling relationship, and an incredible and OTP-worthy romance.

Fall Storm:
The wind is howling and the rain is pounding. Choose your favourite book or genre that you like to read on a stormy day.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Basically this book has everything in it that I love reading, especially when the weather outside is stormy and I’m wrapped up warm inside with a good book. The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is full of travel and adventure, magic and humour, great characters and an OTP worthy romance.

Cool Crisp Air:
What’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

Farway McCarthy
Invictus by Ryan Graudin

One of the main reasons I love time travel books so much is because I love history. So to be able to trade places with Far – to be able to travel back in time, save valuable relics before they’re lost to the world and have wild and insane adventures – would be a dream come true. Basically, I just want to be able to experience history first hand.

Hot Apple Cider:
What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest, hottest thing?

The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

I’m not sure if this is under hyped, it’s still to be released and I was just lucky enough to get an ARC at YALC, but I haven’t seen many people talking about The City of Brass. This is one of my favourite books of the year, possibly my second favourite, and it was just incredible beyond words. Read it, I highly highly recommend it.

Coat, Scarves, and Mittens:
The weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up. What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

Honestly, I rarely feel like I should keep book covers hidden in public for two reasons; one is because 99% of the time I’m reading on my Kindle, so the only person who would be able to see the cover is me, and two is because after commuting for work every day for over three years I’ve realised people really don’t care what other people do.

London; the city where we all avoid eye contact.

However if there was ever a book cover I would keep hidden it would be one that has the cover models staring out of the cover, like in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Pumpkin Spice:
What’s your favourite fall time comforts food/foods?

Home-baked goods. I love baking, and the first thing that comes to mind when I think of fall is baked goods, especially gingerbread men and sugar cookies. There’s just something about the act of baking and the smell of freshly baked cookies in the kitchen that really makes me think of fall.

Yeah The City of Brass was a book that surprised me because it really wasn’t on my radar, but oh I wish it was getting more recognition because it’s an incredible read. 🙂

Yeah covers like the Lux series are why I largely read on my Kindle. I haven't actually seen the new covers but I'll take your word for it. The Gentleman's Guide is a brilliant book, I'd highly recommend it! 😀

  2. Ooh, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed City of Brass! I forgot what it was about (THAT COVER THO) but I haven’t heard that much hype so it’s good to know that at least someone liked it. 😛 And yessss I LOVE gingerbread men and sugar cookies! They’re such a holiday classic. And ooh, I didn’t know Semi-Definitive was a book that could give you a warm and fuzzy feeling! Makes me want to read it even more ahha. Great post!

    1. Oh The City of Brass was incredible May, the cover is gorgeous but the book itself is even better (and that’s saying something I think). I hope it gets more recognition, because it’s a brilliant story.
I need to get baking, all this talk of gingerbread is making me want some.
Yeah there were some heavy-ish issues discussed but there was plenty of love in the book and it was just a heartwarming read at the end of the day. Definitely read it if you get a chance.
      Thanks so much! 😀 ❤

  3. Hi Beth! I loved your answers to this tag 🙂 I’m so happy to hear you loved City of Brass so much, I have been hearing a little bit about that one but not so much. The story sounds really interesting though, I think I might have to add it to my TBR 🙂
I LOVE the smell of cookies right out of the oven, it is the beeeest smell ever ahah. It makes me want to cook right now, even if I am not expert ahah 🙂

    1. Hey Marie, oh thanks so much! 😀 ❤ That's great about The City of Brass. I'd say definitely add it to your TBR list and definitely read it as well. It's one of my favourite books of this year and I want everyone to read it, that's how much I loved it. 🙂
Oh it really is, asides from eating whatever you've made it's the best thing about baking isn't it? Nah I'm not a cooking expert either but I have fun baking and that's the main thing. 🙂 ❤

  4. Oooh I absolutely need to read The Sin Eater’s Daughter trilogy! It sounds amazing and the covers are gorgeous ❤
I haven't read A Semi Definitive List of Worst Nightmares either, but it sounds quite interesting and unique! OTP-worthy romance is always awesome too ❤
I'm ashamed to say the same for the rest of the books mentioned… Well, except for the Lux series. I still have no idea whether I should read it or not, but those covers are indeed quite awkward xD
Love gingerbread cookies! And apple pie and cinnamon and squash and their scent as they waft all over the house ❤
Great tag, Beth! And thanks for tagging me 🙂

    1. It is really good. I read the first book a while ago and liked it, picked up the second and third more recently and loved those two. 🙂
Oh definitely read A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares Sophie, I thought that was incredible and it’s actually one of my favourite reads of 2017! Esther and Jonas are definitely OTP material. ❤
I can't say I'd recommend the Lux series, I enjoyed it when I first read it but I feel it's one of those series I've since grown out of, but I would recommend everything else on this list.
Oh cinnamon is definitely a Fall scent for me, I've never tried apple pie (baking it that is, I've eaten it before) and I'm not a massive fan of squash I have to admit.
Thanks Sophie, and that's all right. 😀 ❤
