Top Ten Books I Enjoyed that Are Outside of My Comfort Zone

I’m not very adventurous when it comes to reading. I know what I like – YA fantasy, contemporary and sci-fi – and I’m not good at venturing outside of those genres. Still there have been a few books I’ve discovered, largely thanks to blogging and other bloggers, which I’ve loved so maybe it should be a bookish resolution to try new genres a little more. After all if I’ve enjoyed the ten books I’ve featured  in my list this week there are probably plenty more out there I’ll enjoy.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Hidden Gems

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Hidden Gems.

As someone who all too often gets swept away by the hype when it comes to popular and highly anticipated releases this isn’t the best topic for me, but looking through my Goodreads read list I discovered I have read a few books which I’m surprised aren’t more popular than they are. In my opinion these are all amazing books, books I’d eagerly recommend (and in some cases have recommended to so many people already).

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Learnt Something From

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is a back to school/learning freebie, so I picked Top Ten Books I Learnt Something From.

It took me a while to come up with this back to school/learning freebie topic mostly because when it comes to the books I read most of them are fantasy stories; stories which keep me on the edge of my seat but which offer an escape from the real world. When they’re over that’s it, but every so often there’s a book I pick up which stays with me long after I’ve closed the last page and makes me want to learn more about the topics it’s discussed, and those are the books I’ve featured on this list.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite Short Stories

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Favourite Short Stories.

I don’t read a lot of short stories so when I first saw this week’s topic I thought I’d struggle to come up with a couple, let alone ten, books that I could feature. Then I looked through my Goodreads ‘read’ list and realised there were a lot of books that fit the theme; anthology collections, novellas from my favourite series, and even a book or two I managed to read in only a couple of hours.

The Sims Book Tag

When I was younger I would spent hours upon hours playing the Sims, so much time would go into creating the perfect houses for each of the families I created. Granted I don’t play it at all now, but this tag brought back some fond memories for me. I was tagged by Heather at The Sassy Book Geek. Thanks so much for the tag Heather, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2017

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2017.

I discovered more new-to-me authors last year than I thought. So many of them wrote amazing books that I fell in love with, and so many of them are new favourite authors of mine, that I couldn’t possibly list them all. So to make things easier I settled on five debut and five non-debut authors, and after taking out the ARCs I read that weren’t due to be released until 2018 my choices were much easier to make.

The New York Times “By the Book” Tag

I may not be a fan, or a reader, of the New York Times but I love the city of New York so that’s close enough right? I ask this having no clue what the New York Times is, other than a newspaper I’m guessing. I was tagged by Jessica at Pore Over the Pages. Thanks so much for the tag Jessica, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.
