Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I’d Slay a Lion to Get Early

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I’d Slay a Lion to Get Early.

Not that I’m condoning animal violence or anything, but there are so many books I would kill to get my hands on. Some of my favourite series are coming to an end and some intense cliff hangers will finally be resolved which means 2018 is going to be a good year for books. None of my picks this week are debuts, and chances are very few will be a surprise.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2017

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2017.

I discovered more new-to-me authors last year than I thought. So many of them wrote amazing books that I fell in love with, and so many of them are new favourite authors of mine, that I couldn’t possibly list them all. So to make things easier I settled on five debut and five non-debut authors, and after taking out the ARCs I read that weren’t due to be released until 2018 my choices were much easier to make.

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns

First of all I just want to apologise for the unplanned hiatus I went on this past weekend. I had a stomach bug and today has been the first day I’ve felt well enough to do anything but sleep.

The winner for my two year blogiversary giveaway will be emailed Wednesday evening, and announced on my blog in my Thursday post. Sorry for the delay but this bug has really knocked it out of me.

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns

Title: Forest of a Thousand Lanterns

Author: Julie C. Dao

Series: Rise of the Empress, #1

Publisher: Philomel Books

Release Date: October 10th 2017

Rating:

Five Stars

An East Asian fantasy reimagining of The Evil Queen legend about one peasant girl’s quest to become Empress—and the darkness she must unleash to achieve her destiny.

Eighteen-year-old Xifeng is beautiful. The stars say she is destined for greatness, that she is meant to be Empress of Feng Lu. But only if she embraces the darkness within her. Growing up as a peasant in a forgotten village on the edge of the map, Xifeng longs to fulfil the destiny promised to her by her cruel aunt, the witch Guma, who has read the cards and seen glimmers of Xifeng’s majestic future. But is the price of the throne too high?

Because in order to achieve greatness, she must spurn the young man who loves her and exploit the callous magic that runs through her veins—sorcery fuelled by eating the hearts of the recently killed. For the god who has sent her on this journey will not be satisfied until his power is absolute.

Top Ten Tuesday: Five Characters who Have Made Great Leaders and Five Characters who Wouldn’t Make Great Leaders

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Characters who Would Make Great Leaders.

I put a little twist on this week’s theme and instead I’m going to focus on five characters who’ve made great leaders, and five characters who wouldn’t make great leaders and should in no way be put in a leadership position. I read a lot of fantasy, and if there’s one thing there’s plenty of in the fantasy genre it’s leaders, be they lost princesses fighting for their throne or rebels fighting for a cause.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books on my Fall TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books on my Fall TBR List.

There are plenty of books on my Fall TBR list; at the end of July I made a mid-year resolution to try and get through all the books I owned but still hadn’t read. There are a lot and I know I’m not going to read them all, especially considering there are so many incredible books still to be released. This list is mainly the books that have been/are being released between July and the end of this year that I want to read, as well two that just sounded so good I couldn’t pass them by.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Most Anticipated Books for the Second Half of 2017.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Most Anticipated Books for the Second Half of 2017.

There were so many amazing, and highly anticipated, books released during the first half of 2017 that I focused too much on those and haven’t paid a lot of attention to what’s being released throughout the second half of the year. Unsurprisingly there are a lot of books, again highly anticipated, being released throughout the second half of the year.
