Top Ten Favourite Books from the Past Ten Years

I can barely remember what I had for dinner last week, so trying to remember what my favourite book was back in 2010, or even just back last year, was a challenge. And that’s saying nothing of the fact that I could only pick one per year. I managed to narrow it down in the end, but I had to make some tough choices but I did stick to just ten. I doubt many of the books on my list this week will be a surprise, because it wouldn’t be a list of my favourite books if I didn’t include some of these.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Characters that Remind Me of Myself

Top Ten Characters that Remind Me of Myself

One of the things I love about reading is how the books I pick up take me to different worlds where I can escape from my real-life problems for a couple of hours, and because I mainly read fantasy books it was a little challenging to come up with ten characters that reminded me of myself. My favourite characters risk their lives for what they believe in and honestly I don’t think I’d be able to be that brave if I was in the same situation, so while I can’t wholly relate to the ten characters I picked this week there were aspects of each of their characterisations that stuck with me.

Dreamy Book Covers Tag

When it comes to book covers I’m weak. They’re the first thing we see when looking at books and if I’m going to check out the blurb, and maybe add it to my TBR list, then there needs to be a gorgeous cover to catch my eye. This tag, where I get to talk about the prettiest book covers I have sitting on my shelves, could have been written for me.

Dreamy Book Covers Tag

I was tagged by Alyssa Grace at Serendipitous Reads. Thanks so much for the tag Alyssa, I loved taking part in this one almost as much as I love gorgeous book covers.

Top Ten Inspirational/Thought-Provoking Book Quotes

When it comes to my ‘favourite’ book quotes I have a lot. Some I love because they never fail to bring a smile to my face, others because they’re cute and romantic, and others because they’ve stayed with me no matter how many other books I’ve read since. The ten I picked for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic are all from that last category – quotes that have meant something to me from books I haven’t been able to forget.

The Sunshine Blogger Award Part One

I do generally consider myself a ‘sunny’ person, especially considering this year I’ve been making more of an effort to prioritise my mental health, so maybe that’s why I got more nominations for The Sunshine Blogger Award. What I love about the Sunshine Blogger Award is that there are always different questions, so I can take part in this one as many times as I am nominated.

The Sunshine Blogger Award

I was tagged by Dani at Perspective of a Writer and Hannah at Peanut Butter & Books. Thank you both so much for your nominations, I had a lot of fun answering the questions you set and I hope you enjoy reading my answers.

Top Ten Characters I’d Like to Switch Places With

For me this list could very easily be top twenty, or even top one hundred, characters I’d like to switch places with. I read a lot of fantasy books, and sometimes there are worlds I just want to be able to fall into the way I do the stories I read; after all who hasn’t finished Harry Potter and immediately wished for their own letter from Hogwarts. Still I managed to keep my list to ten this week, and no I didn’t include Harry Potter/Hogwarts because I feel that’s kind of a given.

Rating:

Five Stars

From the author of Since You’ve Been Gone and The Unexpected Everything comes a dreamy story of summer romance and finding yourself, perfect for fans of Jenny Han and Sarah Dessen

Charlie Grant tries to keep her life as normal as possible. Hanging out with her best friend, pining for Jesse Foster – who she’s loved since she was twelve – and generally flying under the radar as much as she can.

But sometimes normal is just another word for stuck, and this weekend that’s all going to change. Not only will everyone be back home for her sister’s wedding, but she’s also juggling:

– a rented dog that just won’t stop howling

– an unexpectedly hot wedding-coordinator’s nephew

– her favourite brother bringing home his HORRIBLE new girlfriend

– fear that her parents’ marriage is falling apart

– and the return to town of the boy she’s loved practically all her life…

Over the course of four days Charlie will learn there’s so much more to each member of her family than she imagined, even herself, and that maybe letting go of the things she’s been holding on tightest to can help her find what really keeps them together.

Second Chance Summer

Title: Second Chance Summer

Author: Morgan Matson

Series: N/A

Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children’s UK

Release Date: June 7th 2012

Rating:

Five Stars

From the Flying Start author of Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, a powerful novel about hope in the face of heartbreak.

Taylor Edwards’ family might not be the closest-knit – everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled – but for the most part, they get along just fine. Then Taylor’s dad gets devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend one last summer all together at their old lake house in the Pocono Mountains.

Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven’t actually gone anywhere. Her former best friend is still around, as is her first boyfriend…and he’s much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.

As the summer progresses and the Edwards become more of a family, they’re more aware than ever that they’re battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance—with family, with friends, and with love.

The Great British Bake Off Book Tag

Next week is the final of The Great British Bake Off. I only started watching this show last year but now I’m hooked, and of course it seemed like the perfect time to take part in this tag (although if I was really organised I would have posted it back when the first episode aired. Oh well). I was tagged by The Orangutan Librarian. Thanks for the tag, I had a lot of fun answering the questions for this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Authors I’d Love to Meet

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Authors I’d Love to Meet.

Ages ago (back in March 2017) I took part in another Top Ten Tuesday topic and spoke about some of the authors I’d been lucky enough to meet and some of the authors I still wanted to meet. Granted as I’ve discovered so many amazing books since then I have way more authors I want to meet, but if you don’t see someone on this list who you think would be an obvious choice for me it’s because I’ve already featured them.
