Top Ten Favourite Books from the Past Ten Years

I can barely remember what I had for dinner last week, so trying to remember what my favourite book was back in 2010, or even just back last year, was a challenge. And that’s saying nothing of the fact that I could only pick one per year. I managed to narrow it down in the end, but I had to make some tough choices but I did stick to just ten. I doubt many of the books on my list this week will be a surprise, because it wouldn’t be a list of my favourite books if I didn’t include some of these.

Top Ten Rainy Day Reads

I’m finally back to the set topics for my Top Ten Tuesday posts. Being a mood reader I’ve never given too much thought as to what kind of books I’d pick up as ‘rainy day’ reads, but thinking about it for this post the first books that came to mind were fantasy stories (of course) with immersive worlds (so you can put the rainy weather outside out of your mind). A lot of the books that made my list this week probably won’t surprise many people, because in my opinion the best ‘rainy day’ book is one that’s almost comforting to re-read.

Top Ten Favourite Couples in Books

When it comes to bookish OTPs I have a lot (honestly, who doesn’t?) and because I’ve taken part in Valentine’s themed Top Ten Tuesday posts for three years running now instead of focusing on my all-time favourite couples in books I’ve chosen my top ten from the books I read sometime in the past year. I tried to draw my focus away from re-reads, but there was one that ended up making the cut just because I couldn’t resist featuring this bookish couple.

Every year when it comes to this Top Ten Tuesday topic I always find myself doubting I’ll be able to come up with ten new-to-me authors to feature; because of many series I love, favourite authors I keep going back, and old books I just have to re-read I don’t dedicate enough time to discovering new authors out there. Maybe it’ll end up being one of my resolutions for this year, to make a conscious effort to discover more new authors.

Right now it’s all about Christmas, but in my mind the winter season runs from December all the way through to the end of February so expect to see a lot of 2019 releases on this list that I cannot wait to get my hands on. January and February seem to be the best months for book releases but that doesn’t mean I haven’t also featured a few older books which have spent way too long on my TBR list.

I’m not sure if I can say why I picked the books I did this week, why I’d class them as ‘Wintery Reads’ over any other book. Personally though when it starts getting darker earlier and colder every day all I want is to curl up with a book that’s more magical than deadly; so be prepared to see plenty of magical realism, fairytale retellings, and childhood nostalgia on my list this week.

The ‘How I Choose My Books’ Tag

Nine times out of ten I pick up books because the cover has caught my eye, and the blurb sounds like something I’d love. Occasionally though there’s a recommendation I can’t ignore or hype I can’t resist. I was tagged by Dani at Perspective of a Writer, and Anatomy of a Book Thief. Honestly at this point I almost have too many backlist books to count. My TBR list is a little out of control and I keep saying there are books I’ll get around to soon but I know myself and “soon” for me doesn’t seem to have the same meaning as it does for everyone else. The ten books I picked this week are books I’d love to say are a priority of mine, books I’ve moved to the top of my TBR list, but part of me thinks they’ll still be on my TBR list the next time a backlist TTT topic comes around.

I already have a TBR list that grows longer with every passing second thanks to WordPress, but with all the amazing books being released (some of which are my most anticipated release for this year overall) I wonder if I’ll ever get to the end of it. Still as much as being a mood reader means I pick up what books I want to when I want to there are some reads I know I’ll be starting as soon as I can get a copy of the book in my hands.

Originally this week’s theme was Top Ten Favourite Book Blogs/Bookish Websites, but because I’ve talked a lot about fellow bloggers I love (spoiler alert; it’s pretty much everyone I’ve met in this book blogging community) and I’m not really active on other social media platforms I decided to go back to a topic I missed a few weeks ago (because I didn’t realise the week’s topic had changed from a TTT Throwback to something else until too late) and talk about my Top Ten Favourite Books of the Year So Far.
