The ‘How I Choose My Books’ Tag

Nine times out of ten I pick up books because the cover has caught my eye, and the blurb sounds like something I’d love. Occasionally though there’s a recommendation I can’t ignore or hype I can’t resist. I was tagged by Dani at Perspective of a Writer, and Anatomy of a Book Thief. Thanks both so much for the tag, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite Ghost Stories

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is a Halloween freebie, so I picked Top Ten Favourite Ghost Stories.

I’m not a massive fan of the horror genre – I had a very scarring experience when I watched Silence of the Lambs, Deep Blue Sea and Final Destination when I was only ten years old – so a lot of these aren’t strictly ghosts stories as much as they’re books that feature ghosts. Honestly though that’s the kind of Halloween I like, settling in with a book that captures the mood of the season without scaring me to death.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books to Pull You Out of a Reading Slump

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books to Pull You Out of a Reading Slump.

I’m lucky enough that I don’t tend to slump when it comes to reading. I think because I’m a mood reader I always pick up what book I want to read, and if that means I don’t pick up a book then that’s what I do. However in the past I have had some pretty epic slumps, and when it happens I reach for one of two kinds of books; light-hearted and humorous stories with a shippable romance, and YA contemporaries.

The New Disney Princess Tag

Funnily enough my favourite Disney films don’t even have princess in them (The Fox and the Hound and Alice in Wonderland in case anyone was curious). When it comes to my favourite Disney princess through it’s a hard choice between Belle and Rapunzel. I was tagged by Eva at Brilliantly Bookish, and Sophie at Blame Chocolate. Thanks both so much for the tag, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Really Liked but Can’t Remember Much About

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I Really Liked but Can’t Remember Much About.

Looking through my old Goodreads ‘Read’ list for this topic I was genuinely surprised by some of the books I’d not only marked as read but rated five stars as well, simply because I had no memory of them. If I didn’t know any better I’d think I blacked out and added them without reading them, and honestly I haven’t ruled that out. Still it did make it very easy to come up with ten books for this week’s topic.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I’m Looking Forward to in 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I’m Looking Forward to in 2018.

When it comes down to it there are so many books I can’t wait for, and plenty of them I couldn’t feature because they don’t have titles or covers or blurbs yet; The Muse of Nightmares, the second Warcross book, the third Nevernight book. It’s looking like 2018 is going to be a great year for book releases, the only issue I’ll have is finding the time to read them all.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Things Needed for a Perfect Halloween to Yourself

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is a Halloween freebie, so I picked Top Ten Things Needed for a Perfect Halloween to Yourself.

Happy Halloween everyone!

I’m not a massive fan of Halloween; partly because it’s more of an American thing than a British one and partly because I never went  trick-or-treating as a child. Still I love the atmosphere of October 31st, even if I choose to celebrate Halloween by reading, watching movies, and eating loads of chocolate that should really go to the trick-or-treaters who knock on the door.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I’d Set as Part of my (Fictional) School Syllabus

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is a back to school freebie, so I picked Top Ten Books I’d Set as Part of my (Fictional) School Syllabus.

I didn’t hate high school when I was there so many years ago now, but what I did hate was being forced to pick up books I had no interest in (Julius Caesar anyone?). If I was in charge we would have read pretty much anything else. When I thought of this week’s school-themed freebie the first idea that came to me was setting a syllabus for my own fictional school, so that’s what I did.
