Top Ten Favourite Books from the Past Ten Years

I can barely remember what I had for dinner last week, so trying to remember what my favourite book was back in 2010, or even just back last year, was a challenge. And that’s saying nothing of the fact that I could only pick one per year. I managed to narrow it down in the end, but I had to make some tough choices but I did stick to just ten. I doubt many of the books on my list this week will be a surprise, because it wouldn’t be a list of my favourite books if I didn’t include some of these.

2010

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

Of the two books she’s released so far (I’m hoping there another from her in the works, maybe one day) The Sky is Everywhere is my favourite by Jandy Nelson. I didn’t read pick this one up until 2016, but it was worth the wait in my opinion.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Literally no one should be surprised to see The Night Circus here, I think the surprise would be if I hadn’t included it on my list this week. The first time I read this book was back in 2013, and every time I re-read it I love it more and more.

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

This was the latest book by Morgan Matson I picked up (I needed to be in the mood to read something this sad) so I only got around to it last June but it became my favourite release by Morgan Matson (tied with Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour for first place).

2013

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

I discovered this book thanks to a review I saw on WordPress (I can’t remember whose). It quickly became a favourite series of mine, I even brought the second book for my Kindle while on my lunch break at work because I couldn’t wait until I got home to carry on reading the series.

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

There had to be a Laini Taylor book on this list somewhere, and when it comes to her releases the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy beats out the Strange the Dreamer duology. I picked up this series after seeing a glowing review from my best friend, and I was in love from the first page.

2015

Winter by Marissa Meyer

This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2018, and in my opinion the perfect ending to The Lunar Chronicles series. What I remember about reading this book was that I had to travel to Manchester for work, so adding in my daily commute I had about eight hours to read Winter the day I finally started it.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

The Six of Crows duology is my favourite series by Leigh Bardugo and after the way Six of Crows ended I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Crooked Kingdom. I was a little unsure how Bardugo could top everything that happened in the first book but I ended up being completely blown away.

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

The cliffhanger ending V.E. Schwab left A Gathering of Shadows on was just cruel. A Conjuring of Light was my most anticipated release of 2017, and the worst part was that even after it had been released I had to wait for my copy to be shipped and delivered before I could start reading it.

Circe by Madeline Miller

I brought this book during a bad month, in fact a couple of days before I brought Circe I got some bad news which kind of broke me. Buying this book didn’t turn everything around, but I wanted to treat myself so I got a book which I’d heard amazing things about and which had a gorgeous cover.

2019 (So Far)

The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden

There haven’t been many books released in 2019 that I’ve read but so far The Winter of the Witch is a standout favourite. The hype for The Bear and the Nightingale is more than accurate, and this book is an incredibly beautiful and moving ending to the trilogy.
