I’ve taken part in The Mystery Blogger Award before, but a new nomination and new questions mean I’m back taking part in it again. I was tagged by Naty at Naty’s Bookshelf and The Book Reader. Thanks both so much for the tag, I had a lot of fun answering your questions for this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Three Things About Myself:
- I can’t tolerate caffeine or chocolate; too much of either gives me really bad headaches. It’s been years since I’ve had coffee, which is a shame because I love mochas, and I’d like to say it’s been years since I’ve had chocolate but I’m weak for chocolate (who isn’t?)
- I love animals; it doesn’t matter if they’re cute and fluffy like dogs or not so cute and fluffy like snakes if it’s an animal chances are I love it. My favourite animals are owls, narlwhals and sloths, but my favourite favourite animal is my dog Tommy.
- I suffer from anxiety (which I have mentioned before) and had a really bad turn at the end of last year so I’m making very active changes to improve my life so I have a better 2019. I’m focusing on my health and trying not to stress too much because that makes my anxiety worse.
Naty’s Questions:
- What bookish universe did you find easiest to get immersed into?
The first bookish universe which comes to mind is Red London from the Shades of Magic trilogy. I live close to London and spend the majority of my time there so it was really easy to see the world Schwab created in my mind. I actually want to live there because the only thing better than London is a London where magic is real.
The second is Prague from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I fell in love with the way Laini Taylor wrote the city, and actually travelled to Prague because of the first book. The bookish universes I find it easiest to immerse myself in is the real world with a dash of magic.
- What is a bookish trope you hate?
Love triangles; I don’t mind them if they’re well written, though I’ve only really read one series where the love triangle has been well written, but most times they’re just thrown in to add tension and instead they take so much away from the plot or individual character development.
- And what bookish trope you don’t mind reading?
If it’s not a love triangle or insta-love there aren’t really any tropes I hate reading. My favourites are enemies to lovers, like Simon and Baz from Carry On, friends to lovers, like Monty and Percy from The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, and sarcastic wise-cracking characters, like Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles.
- Suggest a diverse book!
I have read so many incredible diverse books but my favourites are by Anna-Marie McLemore and Adam Silvera; their stories are beautifully written and full of LGBTQ+ characters. Also while I didn’t enjoy Leah on the Offbeat as much as I’d hoped Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli are incredible reads too.
- FUN/WEIRD Question: If you were a beverage, which would you be and why?
Pepsi Max Cherry; I can drink litres of it every day. My friend once said if she cut me I’d bleed fizzy drinks so yeah if I was a beverage it would definitely be that one.
The Book Reader’s Question
- Which fandom universe would you prefer to be a part of?
Is it too cliché to say the Harry Potter universe? Even if it is it has to be my answer for this question. I grew up reading the books and watching the films, and when I think of my favourite series it’s the first that comes to mind. I want to visit Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley, head to Honeydukes in Hogsmeade, and study Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts.
- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?
Amsterdam. I travelled there for a weekend city break with my family a few years back and fell in love. It’s the only place, besides Southend where I currently live and London where I will soon be living, that I could see myself making a home in. It’s a beautiful city, and it just felt like me.
- Classic Disney movies or Disney Pixar? Why?
Classic Disney. I grew up watching films like The Jungle Book, Peter Pan and The Fox and the Hound, and while Disney Pixar have some great films which I have loved nothing can replace the Classic Disney movies just because of the nostalgia they have for me.
- If you’re a student, what do you study? If you work, where do you work?
I work for Marks and Spencer’s at their Paddington head office. I’ve been there for four and a half years now and sometimes it feels like much longer. I started off as an Allocator and worked my way up to a Senior Allocator, to a BU Allocation Planner, to my current role as a Planner.
- If you could time travel, where would you go?
There are a lot of personal points in my life I’d like to re-do, and also I think it would be interesting to go into my future and see how things turn out (plus find out the winning lottery numbers!) If I’m thinking less personal I’d want to go back to the Victorian era, or maybe even all the way back to ancient Greece.
My Favourite Blog Post:
My favourite posts have been the ones that focus on my loves outside of reading; the discussions on my NaNoWriMo progress, the tags that go into more detail on my WIP characters, the Reading Around the World posts which bring back so many memories of my favourite holidays.
I’m not going to tag anyone in The Mystery Blogger Award, but if there’s anyone out there who wants to take part consider yourself tagged.
What bookish universe did you find it easiest to get immersed into, and which fandom universe would you love to be a part of? If you were a beverage which one would you be? Do you prefer Classic Disney movies like me, or do you think Disney Pixar films are better? Let me know.
Congrats

Your dog is cute! So agree with you about wanting to live in Red London 😀 And I also went to Prague because of DOSAB 😉 I absolutely love enemies to lovers too- and carry on is one of the best examples of that. They both die in the end and simon are both great! I’d love to live in the HP universe. and it’d be so cool to go back in time to ancient greece! Awesome answers!
I hope you have a good year! ❤

Ahh, thanks so much. Yeah I love him so much, he’s adorable. 🙂 I feel like most people who’ve read DOSAB have been to Prague, or want to go. Carry On is one of those feel-good stories I always read when I’m feeling slump-y, and when it comes to representation you can’t beat Adam Silvera or Becky Albertalli right?
Thanks so much. 🙂 ❤

Lovely answers, Beth ❤️
The Wizarding World is amazing and I’d definitely live there if I could – Hogwarts, Honeydukes & Olivanders are some of the first places I’d go! The Shades of Magic trilogy sounds really good and I am really interested in the four different London’s, I really hope that I can read this series this year.
Speaking about London, it is one of the places I still really, really want to travel to. I also won’t mind going to Amsterdam – the museums, flowers and overall landscape just looks so amazingly beautiful. I’m such a sucker for the friends-to-lovers and enemies-to-lovers trope, it’s usually such a slow burning romance and the suspense is amazing! Love triangles are a bit of a hit or miss for me – which series did you enjoy that had a love triangle?
I’ve only had Pepsi Max Cherry once (it’s not readily available over here) and it was delicious. Such a great drink to choose to describe yourself ❤️

Thanks so much Michelle. 🙂 ❤
There are so many places in the Harry Potter world I'd love to go to. If only we could travel there, until then the Wizarding World in Florida and the Studio Tour in England. The Shades of Magic series is incredible, I'm sure you'll love it.
Amsterdam is incredible, I really want to go back one day, but hopefully you'll be able to make it to London and Amsterdam yourself soon. I'm sure you'll love both places.
There's nothing like slow burning romances is there? The series with a decent love triangle was The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, a few other people have said the same about the love triangle so it's not just me.
God I don't think I could live in a place where it wasn't readily available, I'm addicted to it! 😀

The Wizarding World and Studio Tour are both also on my bucket list – I think it would be amazing to go to those two places ❤️
Have you been to the studio tour before?
I have family that lives in England so maybe if I can save up enough money for a flight ticket and some spending I’d be able to go 🙂 I still have to read ALL of Cassandra Clare’s books, I read the first book in TMI series but I haven’t progressed further than that. I’m happy to hear the love triangle was executed decently, there are certainly exceptions to the rule ❤️

I’ve been on the studio tour quite a few times actually. I love close to London and I love Harry Potter so it’s always on my list. Next is the Wizarding World for sure though. 😀
It’ll be worth it if you did do that one day.
I’m still a little behind on her books, but based on what I’ve heard her books get better and better so hopefully if there’s another love triangle that one will be well written too. 🙂

That must have been really magical to go there every time ❤️ Yes – I recently watched a vlog by EmmaBooks when they went to the Wizarding World and it was really so magical – I almost cried!
I’m SO behind on Cassandra’s books, but I am still interested in reading them. I’m sure if she pulled it of once she’ll be able to do it again 🙂

Yeah, no matter how many times I’ve been it never gets old. God I need to check out that vlog then, at least until I can get a chance to go. 🙂
She writes so many and releases them so quickly I feel like it’s easy to get behind. We’ll catch up one day I’m sure. 🙂 ❤️

Ah there it is! Shades of Magic! lol. Never fails 😀 Yup, definitely done with love triangles and instal-love, if done predictably or badly of course. Amsterdam looks so gorgeous. Would love to see it one day. And your photos are lovely. Classic Disney will always be my favorite Disney, besides the Renaissance Disney of course lol. Wonderful post, Beth! And congrats on the award!

Definitely never fails, and if you ever see a tag of mine where I don’t mention Shades of Magic you know something’s up right?! 😀
The problem is it’s rare to find either of those tropes where it’s done well isn’t it. Thanks so much, hopefully you’ll make it there yourself one day. Oh yeah, both classic and renaissance Disney have a special place in my heart. They’re like the films of my childhood!
Thanks so much Azia. 🙂 ❤️

Oh man, getting headaches from too much chocholate is a bit sad, but at least it helps moderate your consumption of it! 😛 It can get pretty impossible at times to stop eating them hahahah Great answers, Beth!

Ha, yeah I mean if ever want to binge eat tons and tons of chocolate I do, I just need to remember to have paracetamol on hand! 😀
I’m weak for chocolate too, once I start I just can’t stop.
Thanks Lashaan. 🙂 ❤️

Ahhh I love animals, too, though I am not a fan of snakes at all haha. Sloths are my favorite 💖
I get your feeling about Amsterdam, I only went there for a short weekend, but I loved it so much, it it such a pretty city and I can’t wait to go back 💖
Wonderful answers, Beth, and congratulations on the award again! 🙂

Sloths are adorable! And yeah I guess snakes aren’t for everyone. 🙂
I hope you make it back there one day. I want to go back soon, it was an incredible city and I just felt like home while I was there. If I ever decided to live abroad I’d go to Amsterdam.
Thanks so so much Marie. 🙂 ❤

Congrats on the award! We have so much in common just from reading the beginning of your post. I hope your year is free of anxiety. I know what that feels like and it’s no fun.
I agree with all your answers here, especially Harry Potter. Disney movies are Disney movies to me though and I love them all! Take care ♥️💗♥️

Thanks so much, and yeah that’s what I’m hoping for from this year. So far it’s been going well so I’ve just gotta keep my finger crossed it continues that way as well.
Disney movies at like the quintessential childhood movies aren’t they? It’s hard not to love them. Thanks, you too. 🙂 ❤
