Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Authors I’d Love to Meet

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Authors I’d Love to Meet.

Ages ago (back in March 2017) I took part in another Top Ten Tuesday topic and spoke about some of the authors I’d been lucky enough to meet and some of the authors I still wanted to meet. Granted as I’ve discovered so many amazing books since then I have way more authors I want to meet, but if you don’t see someone on this list who you think would be an obvious choice for me it’s because I’ve already featured them.

Top Ten Tuesday #122

Vic James

Her Dark Gifts series quickly became one of my all-time favourite dystopian series. The really annoying thing is she was actually at YALC one of the years I was there, and I didn’t make the effort to see her because I wasn’t aware how much I was going to love her books.

Vic James

Rick Riordan

Last time I posted about the authors I wanted to meet I included J.K. Rowling, and I think my chances of actually meeting Rick Riordan are slim to none, but I can dream right? His Percy Jackson books have taught me so much about mythology, and they’re so fun to read as well.

Morgan Matson

When it comes to the YA contemporary genre Morgan Matson is one of the best authors out there, honestly she has yet to write a book I haven’t loved. She writes such incredible moving stories, and any future releases from her are going to be an automatic add to my to-read list.

Morgan Matson

Sarah Dessen

Sarah Dessen is the author I have loved her books ever since I picked up Just Listen when I was a teenager (although I still need to get around to some of her newer releases). Getting to meet her would be a dream come true, and I’d want to tell her how much her books mean to me.

Sarah Dessen

Jay Kristoff

The first book by Jay Kristoff I read was Illuminae, which granted was one he wrote with Amie Kaufman but it was enough to introduce me to him as an author and get me to pick up his other books. The Nevernight Chronicles in incredible in a word, and I am so excited for Darkdawn.

Jay Kristoff

Anna-Marie McLemore

Magical realism has fast become one of my favourite genres, and Anna-Marie McLemore is not only one of my favourite magical realism authors but one of my favourite authors full stops. Her books are pure magic and full of incredible diverse representation as well.

Anna-Marie McLemore

Philip Pullman

Granted he’s another author I’m very unlikely to meet (between J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan and Philip Pullman who do you think I’m the least likely to ever meet?) but His Dark Materials trilogy was one that defined my teenage years and one I still love today so I had to add him.

Philip Pullman

Pierce Brown

Like with Vic James I actually had a chance to meet Pierce Brown when he came to London for his Iron Gold tour, but I was going on holiday. I was gutted, and as my friend would have killed me if I’d cancelled our holiday to meet an author I can only hope he comes back again.

Pierce Brown

Holly Black

Holly Black is another authors who’s books shaped my teen years. I loved her Modern Faerie Tales trilogy but honestly kind of forgot about her as I grew older and my reading tastes changed. Then she released The Cruel Prince and I remembered what it was I loved about her books.

Holly Black

Adam Silvera

Granted his books have pretty much emotionally destroyed me, every time he’s released something new I’ve known I’ll end up with my heart broken, but I love Adam Silvera’s writing. I’m so excited for whatever he releases and maybe, one day, he’ll come to the UK and I can meet him.

Adam Silvera

So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know which authors you’d love to meet? Would any of the authors I’ve featured make your list, or have you been lucky enough to already have met some of them?

  1. I’ve actually been lucky enough to meet a few of these authors! I only had 30 seconds to gush to Rick Riordan about how much I enjoy his books and how he helped me ace my college mythology class, but he seemed super nice. Adam Silvera and Jay Kristoff were also very nice as well, which I’m sure is no surprise! They’re both so tall, too! And I really hope you get another chance to meet Pierce Brown, because I thought he was great!

I hope you’re able to meet some of the authors on your list one day!

    1. Oh wow, granted it was only 30 seconds but it’s probably 30 more seconds than I’ll ever get. Still maybe one day right?! 🙂
That’s definitely no surprise, I’ve heard the same thing from others who have been lucky enough to meet one or both of them.
I hope so, maybe when Dark Age is released he’ll do another UK book tour. I’m keeping my fingers tightly crossed! 😀
      Thanks so much. 🙂 ❤️

  3. sdjfslk this list is so perfect!!!???? Rick Riordan is so great at writing, and SO FUNNY, I would probably just lost all ability to speak in his presence. Also, Sarah Dessen!!!! so much of my Middle School days were spent w her books, and I need her secrets to writing so many books, I’m still struggling to write one page, it’s horrible XD. +++ Adam Silvera and Pierce Brown are very pretty *blushes*

    1. I feel like I’d definitely lose all ability to speak in his presence. He’s just one of those iconic authors right?! Oh meeting Sarah Dessen would be middle school aged me’s dream, but I know that feeling. I struggle with writing past a certain point too. 🙂 ❤

  4. OH amazing choices, Beth! I would LOVE to meet Morgan Matson and Philip Pullman just as well, I love all of their books so, very much ❤ ❤ Hopefully someday ahah 🙂
I actually met Sarah Dessen earlier this year at the Paris book fair and, while it was amazing, I felt way too awkward to utter more than just a couple of thank-yous hahahhaha 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Marie. 🙂 ❤️ It would be a dream one day right, I’ll keep hoping until I get that opportunity especially with Philip Pullman because he’s been a favourite author of mine since I was in high school.
I remember seeing your post (I was very jealous because of course I love her books so much) but hopefully one day she’ll be in the UK, and yeah I get that star-struck awkwardness when it comes to my favourite authors. It’s kind of unavoidable. 🙂

  5. Great list! I met Sarah Dessen a few years ago and it was truly a dream come true for me. I also picked up Just Listen in high school and I couldn’t believe how honest and open her writing was. I hope you’ll get to meet these authors soon 🙂

    1. Thanks so much, and oh I’m so jealous. I really hope she comes to the UK one day so I can meet her but I’m not sure how likely that actually is. Yeah Just Listen is always going to be my favourite by her, it’s such an iconic and incredible read and for me it always will be.
      Thanks, I hope so too. 😀 ❤️

  6. Wonderful post, Beth! I’d love to meet Rick Riordan as well. (Hopefully someday!) He’s one of my favorite authors and I love the PJO/HOO series so much. 😍 I’d also love to meet Alice Oseman; I’ve read Radio Silence and I Was Born for This by her and I enjoyed both books a lot.

    1. Thanks so much Dezzy, and yeah I imagine for a lot of people Rick Riordan and J.K. Rowling are in the same league, amazing authors it would be beyond incredible to meet. 🙂
Oh I’ve heard brilliant things about Alice Oseman’s books, but haven’t gotten around to them myself yet. Maybe one day.

    1. Thanks so much Meghan. Yeah he strikes me as one of those authors who everyone wants to meet, and I have to admit before picking up The Cruel Prince and The Book of Dust neither Black or Pullman would have made my list either despite how much I loved their books growing up. 🙂 ❤️

    1. Oh that’s wonderful to hear. I hope I get to meet her one day in this case. 🙂 One author I met who’s like that is Alwyn Hamilton, it just makes me love them and their work more, when the authors are willing to spend longer with their fans, even when they have a massive signing queue to get through. 🙂 ❤️
