Types of Memes Book Tag

I will admit I’m not a massive fan of memes. I rarely use them but I did have a lot of fun searching through all the different memes on Pinterest to pick which ones I was going to use in this tag, so maybe I should use them more. I was tagged by Sophie at Blame Chocolate and Azia at The Uncharted Word. Thank you both so much for the tag, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

“Grumpy Cat”
A book you have negative feelings about

The Truth and Lies of Ella Black by Emily Barr

Honestly both of Emily Barr’s books could answer this question. The concepts sound amazing, and the way she describes the settings is incredible, but that’s where the positives end. With The Truth and Lies of Ella Black I hated the main character and hated the insta-love between Ella and Christian.

The Truth and Lies of Ella Black

“What If I Told You”
A book you spoiled for yourself

The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan

Granted I haven’t read this book yet, but I’ve already been spoiled for it because I know about the major character death. I didn’t mean to spoil myself but honestly given how popular Rick Riordan’s books are I’m surprised I didn’t come across spoilers for his series before this.

The Burning Maze

“I Don’t Always”
A book you don’t always like, but when you’re reading it you do

Types of Memes Book Tag (3)

I’m not sure how to answer this one because I don’t read books I don’t always like (I’m a mood reader so I don’t think I can read books I don’t like) but I do struggle to get into magical realism books when I first pick them up, just because of the overall style of the genre.

“60’s Spiderman”
A good classic or retro book that’ll never get old

Types of Memes Book Tag (4)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

This is a very cliché answer but honestly it’s the only book I could have possibly picked; I don’t read classics, and Harry Potter is a series I’ve literally grown up with. I could re-read this book and this series every year for the rest of my life and I know I’ll ever stop loving it.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

“Just Little Things”
A book that’s very relatable

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde

Between the incredible representation, especially of Taylor’s anxiety issues, and the fact that Queens of Geek is set in the middle of a convention and is full of fan-loving characters I feel like this is a book that’s relatable to everyone in one way or another. It’s such a fun read, and a favourite of mine too.

Queens of Geek

“Demotivational”
A book that you’ve seen almost everywhere

Types of Memes Book Tag (6)

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Don’t get me wrong I love this book, and I think it’s incredible that I’m seeing it everywhere. Everyone seems to have read and loved this book, and with the film being released  it’s being highlighted everywhere which is great because The Hate U Give has such an important message.

The Hate U Give

“You Don’t Say”
A predictable book

Types of Memes Book Tag (7)

Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

Reading Ash Princess I felt like I could have been reading Red Queen, or reading any generic fantasy book with a royal fighting to take back her throne and a love triangle between the prince and the childhood best friend. There was nothing new about this book to keep me invested.

Ash Princess

“One Does Not Simply…Binge Read the Entire Book”
A book you binge read

Types of Memes Book Tag (8)

Oh there are plenty of books I binge read, considering how fast I read I could use pretty much all of the books I’ve picked up recently to answer this question. The short answer is that any book that’s an anticipated release of mine is a book I’ll end up binge reading.

“Chemistry Cat”
A book that taught you something new

Circe by Madeline Miller

Greek mythology is a huge love of mine, and when it comes to Greek mythology Madeline Miller is probably the best author there is. Circe was an amazing read, and it taught me so much about Greek mythology just spanning the many centuries Circe was exiled on Aiaia.

Circe

“Pet Memes”
A book that’s just really adorable

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

This book is always the first one I reach for when I’m in the middle of a reading slump, just because it’s got that feel-good feel to it that never fails to make me feel better. The characters are really cute, the romance is OTP and ship-worthy, and the plot itself is more light and humorous than not.

Do you have a favourite meme, one you’ll always use, or are you like me and you don’t tend to use them at all? What’s a book you spoiled for yourself, and what book would you say you’ve learnt the most from? Let me know, and if there’s anyone out there who wants to take part consider yourself tagged.

  1. This Tag looks like a lot of fun! I love that you actually included the memes, because a lot of the time the name alone doesn’t ring a bell 😄 Oh noo I’m so sorry you got spoiled for The Burning Maze 😦 It’s always a shame to see spoilers, but I hope you’ll still like the book! 🙂

    1. It really was, and finding the memes was the best part in my opinion! 🙂 Yeah I’m not one who uses them at all so I needed the images so I knew what they were too.
Oh I’m sure I’ll still love the book, the part that I was spoiled for will probably end up being even more heartbreaking because I know what’s going to happen.
      Thanks Caro. 🙂 ❤

  2. I kind of feel the same way about magical realism books, too! I find it a bit weird staying between fantasy and contemporary. It just feels incomplete? But I do love Anna-Marie McLemore’s magical realism books. Her stories are just fantastic. Also I really need to read Queens of Geek already! Awesome answers, lovely!

    1. Yeah as much as I love the genre it takes me longer to get into the stories than it does any other, but it’s always worth it in the end. Anna-Marie McLemore is my favourite author, and I am so so excited for Blanca & Roja! 😀
Queens of Geek is one of highly recommend, honestly you won’t regret picking it up. Thanks so much. 🙂 ❤️

  3. Oh I love your answers for this tag – this is such a fun tag, by the way! 🙂 I agree that Harry Potter may be a cliché answer, but it’s one I couldn’t pass up for that kind of question either 🙂 and yay for Queens of Geek. Such a fun and very relatable book ❤

  4. Aww I’m so glad to see this post!! I’d almost forgotten about it though it was actually one of my favourite tags yet – simply because I love memes ❤ I used to use them all the time with my friends and we'd have entire chats based on them. It was freaky to say the least xD

Ahem, ignoring my fangirliness, I loved loved loved reading this Beth. You nailed every single category and your meme choices made me giggle like an idiot hahaha So accurate!

I'm so sorry to hear you've been spoiled for The Trials of Apollo! I think I was too, if the character is the same one I'm thinking it is… At the time it bothered me a great deal but then I was like "Am I even going to read this book? Probably not" so just let it go. It's quite frustrating, though, not gonna lie!

I've heard the exact same thing about Ash Princess dozens of times, which can only mean it really is just another generic fantasy novel… I'm really curious about Circe because I love greek mythology too!
One book I do not care about is Carry On. I'm glad you love it so much and it warms my heart that you find such comfort and happiness in it but I just didn't like them at all in Fangirl and doubt I would want to revisit them, so… Pass.

Amazing post, Beth! And thanks so much for doing the tag ^^ ❤

    1. That’s kind of a sign as to how long I leave tags in my queue before I get around to them (I have a major backlog). I rarely use memes but after this I feel like I could be convinced to use them more. 😀
Aw, thanks so so much Sophie. ❤️ I had so much fun taking part in this tag, especially choosing the memes because that was the best part in my opinion.
As much as it’s going to be weird to say this I hope we’re both thinking of the same character in The Burning Maze, honestly I won’t be able to face it if there’s another character death like that (if the spoilers I’ve read are true!) I mean, I am planning to read the book but at the moment I am very much in denial about it all.
Yeah it’s good, but there’s nothing unique about it, and I just kept feeling like I’d read it before (because I had, in other books). Oh that’s a shame about Carry On, but no point reading it if you don’t think you’ll enjoy it, and either way Circe is one I’d highly recommend.
Thanks so much Sophie, and thanks for tagging me. 🙂 ❤️

      1. Well, I certainly hope there aren’t two major deaths in the book! That would be a bit too much… Rick Riordan is reeeeally branching out, I wasn’t expecting him to go there in the first place!
        But oh well.
I certainly hope to cross paths with Circe in the near future 🙂 And I’m also excited about your newfound appreciation for memes hahaha 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      2. It would, but it would definitely be shocking (I feel like though based on how I was spoiled I would have been spoiled for both deaths if there had been more than one). I wasn’t expecting it either.
Let me know when you do, I’ll be eagerly waiting to hear what you think about it. 😀

  5. Oh gosh I loved this post so muchhh!!!!!!!!!
First, the mood reader part is so relatable, it’s become so bad that one time I couldn’t even complete a buddy read. I’m the #1 DNF person XD But I read a quote once that said you’ll only get to read a certain number of books in one lifetime. And my TBR is so long, I don’t want to waste valuable time reading something that I’m not loving.
Also, I want to read Queens of Geek so muchhh!!! It’s LGBT + anxiety rep + one of your favorites + set in a convention!??? The premise is literally perfect slkdjfldksjflks It reminds me of “How to Repair a Mechanical Heart” so fluffy and cute c: c:

    Liked by 1 person

    1. That’s actually a really good quote to live by when it comes to reading. 🙂 See as much as I’m a mood reader I’ll rarely DNF books, which is why I have some periods where I’ll slump a little. I just keep thinking “what if it gets better?” so I can never give up you know? It’s probably why my TBR list never seems to get any more manageable.
I haven’t read How to Repair a Mechanical Heart but I would highly recommend Queens of Geek. It’s every amazing thing you’ve heard and more, and I’m sure you’ll love it as well. 🙂 ❤️

  6. I feel like the worst thing I do in the terms of spoiling books for myself is skipping ahead – I often find that I’ve accidentally skipped part of a page, and if a plot reveal is lying in wait there… I’m spoiled!
Also, I really must get ahold of Circe – guess I need to pit it on my Christmas list 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I used to do that a lot, and I couldn’t even say I did it accidentally or that it was only part of a page either. I’ve gone completely the other way now though, and I avoid spoilers like the plague. 🙂
Circe is incredible, and it would make a great Christmas present too I’d imagine. 😀

  7. This tag is a really cute, original idea.
Harry Potter will never, ever get old. Simple fact. I’ll reread it til the day I die.
Ash Princess definitely doesn’t do much that’s new or different. I still had a good time with it but I went in knowing to expect a trope fest so maybe that’s why?
I learnt a bunch of new things from Circe about mythology too. So educational. Thanks Madeline Miller!
Thanks for the tag Beth! I’ll have to try this after my hiatus.

    1. Yeah, and I loved taking part in it too. 😀 HP is as close as I’ll ever come to a classic, but I’ll never stop loving it. Yeah I get what you mean, there was nothing wrong with the book I just had a feeling I’d read it before in too many different books. When it comes to fantasy I guess I want more unique than I want tropes you know? Definitely, I’ve learnt more from Madeline Miller’s books than I have any others I think, and that’s all right. I’ll look forwards to seeing your memes and answers for this one. 🙂 ❤️

    1. It really was fun to take part, especially when it came to finding the memes for my post. 😀 I mean I do try and avoid spoilers for all books, I’ll avoid all reviews for my most anticipated releases even non spoiler ones, but I just got unlucky with The Burning Maze. Ha, yeah I imagine that can be a minefield at times. 🙂

  8. Queens Of Geek is one that I’ve owned unread for quite a bit, good to see it here as your relatable read, I’ve heard so many good things about this read. Ash Princess 😱I haven’t read but it is on my TBR, I guess it’s a good thing I haven’t read Red Queen 🤷🏻‍♀️ haha! I can’t with the predictable reads. Loved reading your answers Beth 🖤

    1. I can’t recommend Queens of Geek enough Lilly. 🙂 It was going unread on my TBR list for ages to but when I did finally get to it I kicked myself for not picking it up sooner. Ahh, maybe if you haven’t read Red Queen yet you’ll enjoy Ash Princess more than I did. I mean there was nothing wrong with it, I just had a strong feeling of “been there read that” you know?
      Thanks so much. 🙂 ❤️

  9. Oh, thank you so much for tagging me, Beth! 💗 This is such a fun and hilarious tag, haha, I loved reading your answers and the memes that you chose. Omg I got spoiled for The Burning Maze as well, because I was scrolling through Rick’s twitter. 😂😩 And I’m so glad you enjoyed Circe! After reading The Song of Achilles, I’ve fallen in love with Madeline Miller’s writing and I really want to read Circe soon.

    1. That’s all right and thanks Dezzy. I definitely had a lot of fun finding the memes to feature for this tag. 😀
TBH considering what I read about The Burning Maze I’m in a very strong state of denial, I won’t believe it until I read it myself (and I may not believe it even after that!) Circe is incredible, honestly I can’t recommend it enough because besides Rick Riordan Madeline Miller is my favourite Greek mythology author. 🙂

      Liked by 1 person

  10. Aaaah I need to get my hands on Circe! I’ve seen mentions of it pop all over the blogosphere now, and the book sounds both educational & interesting. Honestly, I haven’t read a book with Greek mythology in it since Rick Riordan’s books, so I’m really looking forward to getting my copy of Circe 😊 Also, of course HP needs to be on this list — it’s truly a classic in its own right. I enjoyed reading about your picks for this tag! 😋

    1. Circe is incredible, a beautiful story for sure, and when it comes to Greek mythology stories I don’t think there’s an author better than Madeline Miller (don’t get me wrong I love Rick Riordan’s books but Madeline Miller is in a league of her own!)
Yeah HP is as close to a classic on likely to come, and thanks Zoie. 🙂 ❤️

    1. Thanks Meghan, and yeah I never use memes but some of these I really laughed at (for me it was the retro Spider-Man one, I had a lot of fun searching through those memes!)
Thanks so much, and yeah THUG is probably a cliche answer but there’s no better book in my opinion. 🙂 ❤️
