It’s no secret that I love Greek mythology, ever since I was a child I’ve been fascinated by the stories, so I feel like this tag could have literally been written for me. I was tagged by Meghan at Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations & Reviews. Thanks so much for the tag Meghan, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers.

I have so many favourite books it’s honestly hard to keep track of them all, but if I have to choose just one (and when I say ‘just one’ I mean one book, not one series) my answer will always be The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. She’s created a wonderful story and a fantastic world to explore, and even though I’ve already re-read this book so many times I can’t wait to re-read it again.
Vida from The Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken.
Granted when Ruby first meets her in Never Fade Vida is very standoffish, but as she opens up we get to see how much more there is to her. She’s a determined fighter and fiercely loyal to those she loves, her sharp back-and-forth with every character was so much fun to read, but she has some heartbreaking vulnerabilities as well.
Like with my favourite book I have loads of favourite debuts, and I’ve got through some incredible ones this year alone, but like with my first answer there’s only one answer for this question and that is Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. It’s the start of one of my favourite series by one of my favourite authors, it made me want to travel to Prague and made me believe in magic again.
I actually don’t have one. Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever even read a nonfiction book
The current book I’m recommending to everyone is The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven. It’s honestly a brilliant book, with an incredible main character and such an important message. Plus the cover is really pretty, and what more do you need to know to convince you to add this one to your TBR list?
I feel like this one is going to take some explaining, so bear with me. There’s nothing wrong with All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, I was actually enjoying the story up until the part where something that is personally really triggering for me happened which I was unaware of. It made me feel really uncomfortable and just ruined the whole reading experience for me.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Honestly is there any other answer to this question? There’s a reason this book was at the top of the New York Times bestsellers list for so long after all. The Hate U Give is a beautiful, emotional and moving story which manages to exceed the hype it has. It’s a book I took a lot away from and a book that stayed with me long after I finished reading it.
When it comes to beautiful books the best are hardcover editions with a secret cover under the dust jacket.
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
There was nothing wrong with this book, but nothing happened. There was no plot other than Feyre and Rhys coping with everything they lost in the war, and although I enjoyed the build up we got to the secondary characters stories which are still to be released I don’t feel like this book was a necessary part of the series.
I’m a fast reader so there are plenty of books I’ve sped through, but the most recent one that comes to mind is Bright Ruin by Vic James. I didn’t want to put this book down. It was one of those reads where I kept telling myself ‘one more chapter’, only to end up staying awake until I’d finished it and as a result being shattered the next day at work. It was worth it though.

Are you a fan of secret covers under hardcover dust jackets, if so what’s your favourite one and if not what is the most beautiful book cover you own? Who’s your favourite badass female character, and what’s the last book you sped through? Let me know, and if there’s anyone out there who wants to take part consider yourself tagged.
Oh I love it when hardcover books have something underneath! It’s so much more beautiful that way. My favorite from my shelf would have to be Illuminae but the one from Kill the Boy Band and Sleeping Giants is really pretty too! There are a lot of badass female characters and I agree with your answer! I absolutely love Vida! I also love Gauri from A Crown of Wishes! A book that I recently sped through is Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour which I absolutely love! I need to read Save the Date and The Unexpected Everything! I can’t wait!

Same here, I always take the dust jacket off my hardcovers when I first get them just to see what they look like underneath. It’s a bonus having two gorgeous covers right?! Oh I want the hardcover versions of The Illuminae Files so badly, but I’d have to order them from the US so I’m holding off until I have money spare to do just that.
Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour is my favourite by Morgan Matson but Save the Date is a close second. Honestly though all of Morgan Matson’s books are amazing so if you sped through one you’ll speed through them all. 🙂 ❤️

Oh I understand. I want the UK versions of Mistborn and other covers but it’s so expensive. It’s good having two covers in one. I always check for something underneath. Oooh my friend loved Save the Date and definitely Morgan Matson has became one of my favorite new authors!

Books are already so expensive, why do they need to add insane shipping fees on top?! Oh well, sometimes it’s worth it.
Yeah I can’t wait for her next release, no clue what it will be but you know it’ll be amazing! 🙂

Oh this is a fantastic Tag!! I have always been intrigued by Greek Mythology, so this Tag sounds super cool to me 🙂 I have to admit that I still haven’t read the Night Circus yet, despite my intentions to finally get around to, as everyone loves it so much – I really have to finally read it soon! Same with The Darkest Minds, I need to read the books, especially as the movie is now out too 😀

In that case feel free to take part in this one, I’d love to see your answers Caro. 🙂 Oh that’s a shame, but I’m sure when you do pick it up you’ll love it, and it will be a case of better late than never too. Also yeah I’d really recommend that trilogy, and now I’ve re-read the books I finally need to see the movie. 😀

Oh, secret covers are the absolute best! I really wish I had more hardcovers, actually, because having a private little hidden cover makes reading the book all the more fun 😀
Do you have a favourite secret cover?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah it’s so much fun finding them, especially when they’re unexpected because they’re almost an added bonus right? At the moment definitely the one for Circe, it’s just so intricate and pretty. Do you have a favourite?

Hello Beth 🙂
I loved The Night Circus as well and you just reminded me that I HAVE to re-read it!! You’ve also convinced me to add The Exact Opposite of Okay to my TBR since it sounds like such an interesting book 🙂
Great post ❤

Oh I need to re-read it as well, it’s on my list for this year so I’ll be sure to get around to it before 2018 is over. It’s one of those books you can re-read over and over again and never get bored of right? That’s great to hear, it’s an amazing book so I really hope you love it.
Thanks so much. 🙂 ❤

It will be my first time re-reading The Night Circus but I can imagine that it is a book to enjoy over and over again 🙂 Hope that you will enjoy this re-read as well and let me know how it goes!

It’s definitely a book I enjoy re-reading over and over again.
Thanks Sophie, and yes I will! 🙂

I love Greek mythology and Greek gods, so this is such a fun tag to read! I can’t believe you’ve never read a non-fiction book though. Do you want to at some point? I know a couple that don’t read like non-fiction but more like a regular novel (Eat Pray Love, Wild, Into the Wild, …) or some that are super interesting because they are about celebs but also their lives (Born a Crime, Why Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me, It’s Not Me It’s You, …) or just the ones that are about awesome topics like Quiet by Susan Cain, which is about introverts and extroverts. Wow, writing this comment, I just realised how passionate I am about some non-fiction books haha

Oh in that case you should definitely take part in this one Kat, it’s perfect for fans of Greek mythology. 😀 Currently it’s not something on my to-read list but I’m not ruling it out. If I find a non fiction book I think I’ll enjoy I’ll definitely pick it up. Up until now though it’s not even been a genre I’ve thought about but filling in this tag has made me think I probably should. Not being able to answer that questions has kind of brought to light there’s a whole genre out there I’ve essentially written off.

I might if I have time for it, thanks!
I get it though, because if anyone asked me about a book from the horror genre, I’d have a terribly hard time coming up with an answer. We all have preferences and sometimes we don’t do it intentionally, but we still don’t read in one section at all.
LikeLiked by 1 person
That’s all right, and to be honest I’m not a massive fan of the horror genre either so I’d struggle if that was a question as well. I guess sometimes though it takes something like this to make me realise I’ve unintentionally excluded a whole genre you know?

oh god when you mentioned gorgeous designs under dust jackets!!!??? I HAD A MOMENT. finding gorgeous designs on hardcovers is one of my favorite things.
And now I have to add Night Circus and The Exact Opposite of Okay to my tbr ❤ I'M SO EXCITED FOR THEM??!!!! the premise for both!!
&& I agree that non-fiction is something I've barely read. I think the last non-fiction for me was Vincent & Theo, which read like fiction but was based on the real life letters between Vincent van Gogh ((i love him sm)) and his brother, Theo. You know how much I love platonic relationships and vincent and theo loved each other SO MUCH!!!?? I still cry. c'':

It’s one of the best things about books isn’t it? Finding those gorgeous covers under the dust jackets. YES that’s brilliant to hear Malanie, The Night Circus is such an amazing book and based on what I know about what you like to read I’m sure you’ll love The Exact Opposite of Okay. 🙂 ❤️
Maybe that’s what I need to find, a non fiction book that reads like fiction. I’m not completely ruling the genre out I just need to find something I’ll enjoy. 🙂 Yep, it’s the same amount I love platonic relationships! 😀 ❤️

Hahaha I too would struggle for non-fiction. I highly recommend some autobiographies or poetry memoirs. They can be heartfelt and sweet.

Yeah it’s just never been a genre I’ve been interested in. I will say I do have some poetry books on my TBR list, maybe this can be the kick I need to actually pick them up. 🙂

Omg I did NOT know my hardback cover of Circe had a secret cover underneath until your post! I was so shocked and happy when I opened up the dust jacket to check for the first time. I thought the UK version might not have the secret cover but it does. Thanks for the tag! ❤

Yeah, the secret cover was the main reason I brought the hardcover of Circe (mine’s the UK edition too, I think the first editions have the secret cover but the editions after it don’t). That’s all right, I’ll be looking forward to seeing your answers for sure. 😀

Fun tag! Also, I read The Gilded Cage but never went any farther with the series. This makes me think I should pick it back up!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Thanks, and I’d definitely say continue with the series. The second and third books are so much better in my opinion so even if you weren’t a fan of Gilded Cage still read Tarnished City and Bright Ruin! 😀
LikeLiked by 1 person
Ok I definitely will continue then because I actually did like Gilded Cage a lot, I just read it too soon and lost all the “need” for the next one because I had to wait so long for sequels. 😂

In that case I’m sure you’ll love the next two, and the best thing is they’re both released so you hopefully won’t lost the “need” for them. 🙂

It’s dad, but I don’t even remember tagging you in this 😦 😦 😦 BUT I’m very glad you enjoyed it! 😀 Girl, you have never read non-fiction? I’ve read some pretty good stuff; I’m currently reading non-fiction! It’s a book about autism… predominately American, but it does mention the UK quite a bit. It’s such a fascinating and eye opening read. Anywho’s that’s my two cents on non-fiction… you should definitely check the genre out!

It probably says more about the fact that I’m over a year behind when it comes to the tags in my queue (I have a serious backlog going on!)
No, at the moment it’s never been a genre that’s interested me but I’m open to it. If there are any books that catch my eye I’ll pick them up for sure (and honesty answering that question the way I did kind of made me think I should at least try a non fiction book once.) 🙂
