Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books You’d Mash Together

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books You’d Mash Together.

When I first saw this topic I thought it would be an easy one. I’ve read so many amazing books there are bound to be hundreds I could mash together to create one epic story, but as I started going through my Goodreads ‘read’ list I realised it was harder than I first thought. After all when it comes to all-time favourite books and series of mine, like The Night Circus and the Shades of Magic trilogy, how can they possible get any better?!

Top Ten Tuesday

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and LifeL1K3 by Jay Kristoff

All I can see in my head is the epic heists Kaz and the dregs pulled off set in the world of LifeL1K3; a post-apocalyptic version of the USA with robots, AI’s, and Lifelikes. Imagine what insane plans Kaz could pull together with that kind of technology at his disposal.

TTT Mash-Up (1)

Warcross by Marie Lu and They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Instead and Rufus and Mateo getting their Death Cast call and meeting through the Last Friend app they meet through the Warcross game of the day of the championships. From there they find themselves in the middle of the security problems and Emi’s hunt for Zero.

TTT Mash-Up (2)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor and Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a beautiful story, and Illuminae is told in such a unique and gorgeous format, so I’d want to combine the two. Tell the story of Daughter of Smoke and Bone the same way the story of Illuminae was told.

TTT Mash-Up (3)

Cinder by Marissa Meyer and Lost Boy by Christina Henry

Peter Pan set in space. I feel like even based on the original tale Peter would make a good Lunar. Whether he would be on Cinder’s side or Levena’s I don’t know, but with his army of Lost Boys (all Lunar shells) he’d make a powerful ally or formidable enemy.

TTT Mash-Up (4)

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James and Invictus by Ryan Graudin

While Rory is travelling through space she discovers a wormhole that allows her to travel through time. All alone still she tries to navigate the new times she discovers but quickly finds she’s being pursued by up still chased by J closing the distance between them in the ship behind her.

TTT Mash-Up (5)

The Fandom by Anna Day and Geekerella by Ashley Poston

I liked the concept of The Fandom but wasn’t convinced by the book itself. So I’d take the concept and mix it with the fandom and characters from Geekerella. Ella and Darien know their favourite show so well they’d have no issue stepping into the main characters roles.

TTT Mash-Up (6)

Bone Gap by Laura Ruby and The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I’m not sure I have one specific story in mind for this pairing. I think just the way they’re both written would make for one epic and beautiful story. Maybe add Finn and Penny into The Raven Boy’s story, or put Blue, Gansey, Adam, Ronan and Noah into the village of Bone Gap.

TTT Mash-Up (7)

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski and A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

I want to see A Court of Thorns and Roses with more action. When Feyre goes with Tamlin to the Spring Court she goes as a double agent, working for her village who are planning to rebel against the fae over the wall, but her plans change when she starts falling in love with Rhys.

TTT Mash-Up (8)

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner and Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

Again Passenger set in space. Instead of Etta being taken into the past and aboard the ship Nicholas is working on she’s taken into space aboard the Icarus, but the space vessel crashes before it can reach its destination and both Nicholas and Etta have to find their way back again.

TTT Mash-Up (9)

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi and Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Instead of Maya entering Amar’s kingdom and roaming his castle for half the book she finds herself in Caraval. Later, after being manipulated and betraying Amar, she learns that in order to save her husband and his kingdom she needs to take part in Caraval and win the wish that is its prize.

So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know what books you’d mash together to create one epic story? Did any of the books I featured make your list, or are any of these stories you’d want to see combined with another book I didn’t pick?

  1. I feel like Warcross and They Both Die At The End are good on their own. I wouldn’t mash them up but that is definitely interesting! I would definitely read a mash up of The Star-Touched Queen and Caraval because it would be so much fun! Also Cinder and Lost Boy even though I haven’t read Lost Boy would be interesting as well. I also like the mash up between Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Illuminae. I still need to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone but to have it in the format of Illuminae would be so cool! Also now I really want a mashup of The Winner’s Curse and ACOTAR! Great list!

    1. Oh yeah, individually I think I rated them both five stars, I was just trying to come up with interesting new stories and that’s one that wouldn’t leave my head. The Star-Touched Queen and Caraval are both so magical I imagine they’d be even more magical together, and Lost Boy is essentially just a Peter Pan retelling.
Yeah that would be beyond amazing, and I suppose as there isn’t we’ll just have to be content with the original (amazing) books right?!
      Thanks. 🙂

  2. This is so creative! You’re pairings work so well together, especially the one for ACOTAR & The Winner’s Curse — oh my goodness that would be an absolutely fantastic story, I would love to see how that would play out 😊 And if Kaz had all that modern technology to play around with… I actually get kind of scared thinking of all the crazy plans he would be able to come up with. *shivers* Anyways, great post, Beth!

    1. Thanks so much Zoie. Yeah I just think for that example if you give Feyre Kestrel and Arin’s motivations you could have so much more to ACOTAR. I enjoyed that book but the beginning was so slow. God can you imagine, I just think he could wreck so much more havoc on the world if he lived in the LifeL1K3 universe, but it would be fun to read for sure.
      Thanks. 🙂 ❤

  3. Ugh all of these sound so good!! (Even the ones I haven’t read, from your descriptions, I am excited!)

I still need to read Lifelike (and normally I don’t like eyes on covers but that cover is so creepycool??) But yeah Six of Crows/Lifelike, Bone Gap/Raven Boys, and Lunar Chronicles/Lost Boy really intrigue me.

    Here’s my T10T: https://cadeunderbooks.com/2018/08/07/top-ten-tuesday-books-youd-mash-together/

I think my fave’s from my ideas were Wayward Children/I Am Not A Serial Killer and My Drunk Kitchen: Lord of the Rings Edition 😀

    1. Thanks so much. 🙂 Oh LifeL1K3 is amazing, but I know what you mean I’m not normally a fan of eyes on covers either. With that one though the fact that it was written by Jay Kristoff had me more than the creepy cover.
Yeah those are my favourites, especially the Lunar Chronicles/Lost Boy one. I’d love to see what Marissa Meyer could do with the Peter Pan story. 🙂

  4. OMG KAZ IN A HIGH-TECHNOLOGY WORLD???? WITH ROBOTS???? I’m already overwhelmed, it’s just to mchhhhhh
++ I’ve heard of LifeL1k3, I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet! Does it involve a gay romance? *i hope so, gay love stories are my favorite* c:

    1. I feel like if there are any characters that could be just as epic in a high-technology world with robots Kaz would be one of the main ones. It would make his heists even more daring for sure. 😀
No gay romance I’m afraid, but it’s still a great read so I’d recommend it either way. 🙂

    1. Oh definitely, looking through my list of read books I struggled because how do you make already amazing books more epic?!
It would make for an interesting read wouldn’t it, and yeah Warcross and TBDATE is my most out-there pick for this week but I’d be interested in seeing how the two could combine. 🙂

  5. Wow, Beth, you have the most unique ideas ever for this topic, I love it! ❤ I really like the idea of Bone Gap and The Raven Cycle, both of these books' writing and atmosphere overall would pair up together so well ❤ I would also love to see a star-touched queen/caraval mash up, that would make such an interesting story 😀
    Wonderful post! ❤

    1. Oh thanks so much Marie. 🙂 It took me ages to come up with my ten combinations for this weeks theme but I’m happy with the ones I have. Yeah there’s just something about those two that work so well together, and Caraval and The Star-Touched Queen are two favourites of mine I think would be epic, because the worlds are both full of the most wonderful magic.
      Thanks! 🙂 ❤

    1. I felt the same way about mine, I was hesitant to post it because I thought that it was mediocre, but then I thought who gives a damn it makes sense in my head.

  6. Oh, this is SO COOL, Beth! I love how unique all your ideas are and I think they definitely all would work! I’m especially keen on the idea of Warcross and TBDATE being put together; that would be such an interesting last day for Rufus and Mateo (and probably more heartbreaking with Emika and all the other Phoenix Riders tbh).

I also LOVE that idea with Bone Gap and The Raven Cycle. I don’t remember much of Bone Gap because I read it such a long time ago, but I think the atmosphere of both books would work so well together, and I can imagine the cast of characters getting along together too. Plus both of those books have such pretty writing!

    Great post, Beth! ❤

    1. Thanks so much May! 😀 Yeah I think the mixture of Warcross and They Both Die at the End is the strangest one on my list, but I dunno in my mind it’s kind of perfect. Oh definitely more heartbreaking (not that TBDATE needs to be anymore heartbreaking).
There’s just something about both books that works really well together. They’re both beautifully written with wonderful characters, and all I can think is that combined it would be the most beautiful book ever written!
      Thanks so much. 🙂 ❤
