Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Popular Books that Lived Up to the Hype

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Popular Books that Lived Up to the Hype.

There are so many hyped up books out there, and sometimes when it comes to hype I can be my own worst enemy. I build up certain releases in my head so much and while, nine times out of ten, they’re even more amazing than I think they will be, there are some books which unfortunately end up disappointing me. But this week’s theme isn’t about those disappointing books, it’s about the amazing ones.

The Bear and The Nightingale by Katherine Arden

It took me a long time to get around to this book, and in that time everyone was telling me how amazing it was. I don’t think I’ve seen a mixed or negative review for The Bear and The Nightingale yet, and after reading it myself I can tell why. It’s an incredibly magical story, and I can’t wait to pick up the next book in the trilogy.

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

I really enjoyed both of Adam Silvera’s previous releases, although History is All You Left Me did nearly put me in a reading slump, so I was really excited for the release of They Both Die at the End. It ended up becoming my favourite of Silvera’s books so far, so if you haven’t read this one yet pick it up as soon as you get the chance.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

When I was a teenager Holly Black’s Modern Faerie Tales series was a favourite of mine; hearing that she was releasing a new series about the fae meant I couldn’t wait to get my hands on The Cruel Prince. It was certainly a darker story than Tithe was, but I was hooked from the beginning and my god that ending was intense.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Everyone seemed to be really excited for the release of The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, but it was only after it was out when the positive reviews started being posted that I was swept away by the hype. This book was amazing, and in the running for my favourite read of 2017, and now I am definitely firmly on the hype bandwagon for The Ladies Guide to Petticoats and Piracy.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

After the release of The Hate U Give it was hard to scroll through WordPress without seeing a post mentioning this book. I picked it up because of the amazing things I was hearing but I still ended up being completely blown away by the story. Honestly there aren’t enough words to properly describe how incredible I found The Hate U Give.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

In order to read The Dark Artifices series I decided to do a re-read of Clare’s previous Shadowhunter books, and once I started the main thing I was hearing from literally everyone was how amazing The Infernal Devices trilogy was. It seems to be everyone’s favourite and at the moment, bearing in mind I still have a fair few more Shadowhunter books to get though, it’s mine as well.

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

This is a release I largely hyped up myself. After the insane cliffhanger ending to A Gathering of Shadows I can’t even begin to describe how much I needed this book in my life, and every day until it’s release I was building it up higher and higher in my head. Luckily V.E. Schwab didn’t let me down (could she ever?) and A Conjuring of Light ended up being my favourite read of 2017.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Laini Taylor has been one of my favourite authors ever since I picked up her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series and fell in love with her writing. I knew Strange the Dreamer was going to be amazing just because of who the author was. This book was a long time coming and it took me a while to get into the story, but it was worth it in the end because this was such a beautiful and magical read.

Iron Gold by Pierce Brown

The Red Rising Saga is one of my all-time favourite sci-fi series. I am on the edge of my seat reading these books as Pierce Brown puts his characters through hell over and over again. I was beyond thrilled to discover Morning Star wasn’t going to be last we saw of Darrow though a little apprehensive about having three new POVs to get used to.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Like The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue Illuminae was a book I only picked up because of all the positive reviews I was seeing. Reading Illuminae was like nothing I’d ever experienced before and I was hooked from the start not only on the story but the format the story was told in. For the release of both Gemina and Obsidio I was much more swept away by the hype.
