There’s never a bad time for Harry Potter, and there’s no such thing as too much Harry Potter either so although I have been taken part in The Harry Potter Book Tag before I loved being able to take part again. I was tagged by Laura at The Book Corps. Thanks for the tag Laura, I had a lot of fun answering the questions for this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.
The Harry Potter Book Tag was created by Trang and Lashaan at Bookidote, and all graphics belong to them.
A book you found the theme interesting, but you’d like to rewrite it.
The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr
I really wasn’t a fan of this book at all, and not just because the repetition of key words and phrases got on my nerves, but I can think of so many ways the story could be made better. The main change I’d make would be to the ending, because for me that’s where The One Memory of Flora Banks went downhill fast.
The first book in a series that got you hooked.
Warcross by Marie Lu
Honestly most first books in a series manage to hook me, it’s why I go on to pick up the second book in the series. One of the best though has been Warcross. The ending left me reeling, I didn’t see one of the twists coming and now I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book. I need to know where the story goes for Emi and Hideo.
A book you wish you could have right now.
Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab
There is nothing I wouldn’t do to have this book in my hands right this very second. V.E. Schwab is one of my favourite authors and the Shades of Magic series is probably my all-time favourite trilogies, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear A Conjuring of Light wasn’t the last story we would get set in the same world.
The start of a brand-new trilogy called the Threads of Power, which will be set in the same world as the Shades of Magic series, featuring new leads, plus the entire cast from Conjuring of Light.
A killer book. Both senses. Take it as you like.
The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid
This is such an addictive and fast-paced book, and there was plenty of action to keep me hooked until the very end, but the main reason I picked The Diabolic for this prompt is because of the body count it has. I think S.J. Kincaid could give George R.R. Martin a run for his money with the amount of characters she kills off.
A book that you found really confusing.
The Sacrifice Box by Martin Stewart
There were just too many characters and too many stories competing for space in this 350 odd page book. It was so hard to connect with the characters and care about their struggle when at any one time it seemed like there were three separate stories I needed to be following.
Your spirit animal book.
Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
While there were a couple of things about Leah’s character I didn’t identify with there was one thing that connected me to her more than anything else in read in her book or in Simon’s; her tendency to give up at the first sign of things going wrong. It’s something I do a lot, and the scene between Leah and her mum really spoke to me.
“Leah.” Mom shakes her head. “You’ve got to stop doing this.”
“Doing what?”
“Burning everything to the ground whenever something goes wrong.”
A dark twisted book.
Lost Boy by Christina Henry
It’s kind of fitting that I picked this book, because the last time I took part in The Harry Potter Book Tag I picked another of Christina Henry releases for this prompt. I don’t read a lot of horror or dark and twisted stories so Henry’s fairytale retellings, which are brutal to say the least, are as dark as it gets for me.
A book that surprised you in a great way, reveals more than it is.
Circe by Madeline Miller
As much as I love Greek mythology I didn’t know a lot (in fact I knew nothing) about Circe’s character before picking up this book, but I quickly fell in love. The book focuses solely on Circe’s character development through the centuries she spends on Aiaia. It’s not normally the kind of story I love but Madeline Miller has a way of writing that grabs me and refuses to let go.

Tell me what book you enjoyed the idea of but would like to rewrite, and what book love to have in your hands right now? Which character is your spirit animal, and what was the last dark book you picked up? Let me know, and if there’s anyone out there who wants to take part consider yourself tagged.
Oh god, Warcross got me SO hooked! I stayed up all night reading it, I think. My adrenaline was so high the whole time, it truly was an addicting and exciting read! And aahh I’m SO excited for Threads of Power! Meeting new characters? Meeting old ones? In the same beautiful world of four Londons? CAN’T WAIT!!

Yeah I was hooked, and that ending right? I have no idea what’s going to happen next but I can’t wait for the second book (I’m also kind of dreading it because I can just imagine the cliffhanger ending to book two.)
Threads of Power is going to be amazing. The fact that it’s written by V.E. Schwab is enough but that it goes back to the four Londons? Even better! 😀 ❤

Hello Beth ❤
Thank you for the tag! When I saw the title of your post I knew it was something I wanted to do haha 🙂 Loved reading your answers. Warcross definitely hooked me, and I might have to steal your answer for that one haha. I am SO happy to hear that VE Schwab is writing another series based in the same world as ADSOM! Can't wait to hear more about it! I will have to read Circe 🙂

That’s all right, and oh considering you’re re-reading the series I didn’t think I could not tag you in this post! 😀 Warcross was the first (and the only) book that came to mind for that question, and yeah I can’t wait for her Threads of Power series. Anything V.E. Schwab writes is amazing but it’s even better knowing she’s going back to the ADSOM worlds! 🙂 ❤

Haha yay glad that I came to mind 🙂
Oh yes I am so happy that we’ll see more of the ADSOM world (and the characters!!!) I am curious about the new MCs and excited that Kell and Lila will be back 🙂

Yep, it’s one of the best parts of going back to series again, seeing the old characters even if it’s just in short cameos. 🙂

Oh my, I would so be down for a rewrite of the One Memory of Flora Banks. i thought that it was going to be a really interesting book, but then I just skipped over entire paragraphs because it was just the same over and over and over and over and over again.

I can think of a lot of things I’d change about the story as well. I’d love to see her brother play a bigger role and yeah there was just too much repetition. I get Flora had no memory and that was the point but you could skip whole paragraphs of this book and not miss anything because so much was the same thing we’d read ten times before.

Yes, the execution was just altogether meh for that book. But yes to her brother! I expected a much bigger pay off with his disappearance than the one we got.

That was probably my main complaint. He felt like such an important part of the story and then he really wasn’t! It was almost a waste of the character.

This post is so aesthetically pleasing. 😍
I feel the same way about Circe, I expected to like it, but I didn’t expect to be completely enthralled by it. The writing is so gorgeous.
And Lost Boy sounds so intriguing! I love the cover, too.

Yeah the graphics are gorgeous right?! 🙂
Circe seems to be one of those books that took a lot of people by surprise, but everyone loved it as well from what I’ve seen.
Lost Boy is amazing, if you decide to pick it up I hope you love it. 🙂

This is such a fun tag! I am always down for anything Harry Potter! I completely agree about Circe. I knew I was going to enjoy it but not as much as I did. It is such a fantastic book. I have been wanting to read Lost Boy for ages!

Same here, I love HP so anything related is a must for me! 🙂 Yeah it kind of surprised me, but now anything Madeline Miller releases is going to be a must-read. Oh Lost Boy is brilliant, I’m sure you’ll love it. 🙂
