The Harry Potter Book Tag

There’s never a bad time for Harry Potter, and there’s no such thing as too much Harry Potter either so although I have been taken part in The Harry Potter Book Tag before I loved being able to take part again. I was tagged by Laura at The Book Corps. Thanks for the tag Laura, I had a lot of fun answering the questions for this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

A book you found the theme interesting, but you’d like to rewrite it.

The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr

I really wasn’t a fan of this book at all, and not just because the repetition of key words and phrases got on my nerves, but I can think of so many ways the story could be made better. The main change I’d make would be to the ending, because for me that’s where The One Memory of Flora Banks went downhill fast.

The first book in a series that got you hooked.

Warcross by Marie Lu

Honestly most first books in a series manage to hook me, it’s why I go on to pick up the second book in the series. One of the best though has been Warcross. The ending left me reeling, I didn’t see one of the twists coming and now I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book. I need to know where the story goes for Emi and Hideo.

A book you wish you could have right now.

Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab

There is nothing I wouldn’t do to have this book in my hands right this very second. V.E. Schwab is one of my favourite authors and the Shades of Magic series is probably my all-time favourite trilogies, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear A Conjuring of Light wasn’t the last story we would get set in the same world.

The start of a brand-new trilogy called the Threads of Power, which will be set in the same world as the Shades of Magic series, featuring new leads, plus the entire cast from Conjuring of Light.

A killer book. Both senses. Take it as you like.

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

This is such an addictive and fast-paced book, and there was plenty of action to keep me hooked until the very end, but the main reason I picked The Diabolic for this prompt is because of the body count it has. I think S.J. Kincaid could give George R.R. Martin a run for his money with the amount of characters she kills off.

A book that you found really confusing.

The Sacrifice Box by Martin Stewart

There were just too many characters and too many stories competing for space in this 350 odd page book. It was so hard to connect with the characters and care about their struggle when at any one time it seemed like there were three separate stories I needed to be following.

Your spirit animal book.

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli

While there were a couple of things about Leah’s character I didn’t identify with there was one thing that connected me to her more than anything else in read in her book or in Simon’s; her tendency to give up at the first sign of things going wrong. It’s something I do a lot, and the scene between Leah and her mum really spoke to me.

“Leah.” Mom shakes her head. “You’ve got to stop doing this.”

“Doing what?”

“Burning everything to the ground whenever something goes wrong.”

A dark twisted book.

Lost Boy by Christina Henry

It’s kind of fitting that I picked this book, because the last time I took part in The Harry Potter Book Tag I picked another of Christina Henry releases for this prompt. I don’t read a lot of horror or dark and twisted stories so Henry’s fairytale retellings, which are brutal to say the least, are as dark as it gets for me.

A book that surprised you in a great way, reveals more than it is.

Circe by Madeline Miller

As much as I love Greek mythology I didn’t know a lot (in fact I knew nothing) about Circe’s character before picking up this book, but I quickly fell in love. The book focuses solely on Circe’s character development through the centuries she spends on Aiaia. It’s not normally the kind of story I love but Madeline Miller has a way of writing that grabs me and refuses to let go.
