Funnily enough my favourite Disney films don’t even have princess in them (The Fox and the Hound and Alice in Wonderland in case anyone was curious). When it comes to my favourite Disney princess through it’s a hard choice between Belle and Rapunzel. I was tagged by Eva at Brilliantly Bookish, and Sophie at Blame Chocolate. Thanks both so much for the tag, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Snow White
This Book (like the Movie) Started it All
Favourite debut book from an author
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
I talk about this series a lot so it probably isn’t going to come as much of a surprise to see Daughter of Smoke and Bone as my answer for this question. There aren’t enough words to properly express my love for this book, and that fact that it was the first one Laini Taylor ever wrote just made it all the more incredible. As good as Strange the Dreamer was it couldn’t beat this series.
Cinderella
A Diamond in the Rough
Just like Cinderella, you either didn’t expect much out of this character in the beginning but they turned out to be a total gem
Ziri
Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor
When we were first introduced to Ziri I didn’t expect much from his character. He avoided interacting with Karou, too scared of Thiago to risk going against him, but as the story continued and throughout the third book he became a true friend and supporter, willing to go above and beyond if it meant helping Karou.
I will try and pick some series other than the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy for the rest of this tag, I promise.
Aurora
Sleeping Beauty
A book that makes you sleepy or just could not hold your attention
Any book that can’t hold my attention all the way though I’ll end up DNF-ing and putting back onto my to-read list. However there are books that I had a hard time getting into, either because they were magical realism stories or had really heavy world building, but once I got past the beginning and into the story they ended up being five star reads for me.
Ariel
Under the Sea
A book with a water/ocean setting
The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman
When the river breaks the banks of the Thames and London floods Malcolm and Alice flee in his canoe with baby Lyra. Most of the book follows them as they try to reach Oxford university, and later Lord Asriel, where Lyra will be safe. Not only do they have to stay one step ahead of the man chasing them, but outsmart the old magic awoken by the flood.
Belle
Beauty and the Books
Name a book with the best bookworm/book lover
Liesel
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Maybe she’s not the first character that will come to your mind when you think ‘bookworm’ but you can’t deny Liesel is a book lover. Even before she knows how to read she steals a book, intrigued by it, and as she learns what the words say the more she wants more despite the dangers books mean for her in the middle of World War II.
Jasmine
The Princess and the Thief
Name a book with an unlikely love story (either in terms of the romance or a book you didn’t expect to love so much)
Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray
This answers both parts of the question. I picked up Defy the Stars on a whim and didn’t have any expectations for it, but was completely blown away. Plus the romance between Noemi and Abel is very unlikely, not only are they fighting on opposite sides of a war when they first meet but one of them is human and the other is a mech.
Pocahontas
The Real Life Princess
Name a book that is based on a real life person you want to read/have read
My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows
Granted this isn’t an accurate account of Jane Grey’s life – it has a lot more magic and humour than I believe her life had, especially considering how she died – but I read a lot of YA fantasy and contemporary releases so there’s no other answer for this question I’m afraid.
Mulan
The Princess that Saved her Country
Name the fiercest heroine you know
Mustang
Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown
What I love the most about Mustang is that she doesn’t just feel like a side character in Darrow’s story; instead she has her own journey to go on, her own things driving her that she’s fighting for. She’s intelligent, kick-ass, and refuses to be intimidated by Darrow or anyone else.
Tiana
The Princess with the Coolest and Most Diverse Crew
Name a diverse book whether it’s a diverse set of characters (like Tiana’s group of Naveen, Louis, Ray, and more) or just diverse in general
Kaz, Inej, Nina, Matthias, Jesper and Wylan
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
In my opinion I don’t think there’s an author who’s written a multiple POV book better than Leigh Bardugo has with Six of Crows. All six of her main characters have different ethnicities, different religions, different diversities, but they’re all incredibly developed and great characters.
Rapunzel
Let your Longggggg Hair Down
Name the longest book you’ve ever read
Since I started blogging, way back in November 2015, the longest book I’ve read is Winter by Marissa Meyer. However looking back even further to before I started blogging the longest book I think I must have ever read is A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin. The edition I own is over 1200 pages which so far means it’s the longest book of the series.
Merida
I Determine my Own Fate
A book where there is no love story/interest or isn’t needed
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
Vasya doesn’t want a love story. The Bear and the Nightingale is all about her journey growing up in the wilds of Russia; running around the woods, talking to the house spirits no one else can see. She has a very independent spirit that a man would just end up breaking.
Anna/Elsa
Frozen Hearts
A book in a winter/cold setting
Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
(I was originally going to use The Bear and the Nightingale to answer this question, but then I used it for the one before and didn’t want to feature the same book twice in a row).
In the third book of The Illuminae Files series we go back to Kerenza, a planet so cold that people die from exposure. It’s something Rhys is warned about when he first steps foot on the planet; if his gear isn’t secured correctly the cold will kill him very very quickly.
Moana
How Far I’ll Go
A character that goes on a journey
Lyra Silvertongue
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
When her friend Roger is kidnapped Lyra travels with the Gyptains from Oxford to Svalbard and the Arctic to get him back again, and from there along with her daemon she enters another world all together where her adventures continue and she meets Will Parry.
I’m not going to tag anyone else in The New Disney Princess Book Tag, instead let me know what your answers for these questions would be?
Who’s your favourite Disney princess? What’s your favourite debut book? Who’s the fiercest heroine you’ve read and what was the latest book you’ve picked up with diverse characters? And if there’s anyone else out there who wants to take part consider yourself tagged.
I totally agree with everything you said about DoSaB! I didn’t expect the book to be that amazing, but more surprising is how important Ziri ended up to the story and how much he has grown 🙂 I also agree that Vasya doesn’t need a man, she’s amazing the way she is, with the stubborness and wildness 🙂

It’s amazing right? I will definitely be re-reading those books again before too long! 🙂 Yes I loved how important he became to Karou, but without turning their relationship into a love triangle which I definitely appreciated.
I really hope there continues to be no love interest for Vasya in the Winternight series, she doesn’t need one. 🙂

So get what you mean about DOASAB! I liked your answer for books that were difficult to get into and that you chose books that you ended up loving 😀 Liesel is a great answer! and so is my lady jane! (I’ve just started reading that and am liking it so far as well!) Agree about the bear and the nightingale. Obsidio is a clever choice!
Excellent answers- I had fun reading this! 😀 ❤

Sometimes the most beautifully written books can be the hardest to get into can’t they? The Book Thief is an all-time favourite of mine so I just had to include it, and oh I loved My Lady Jane, I can’t wait for the next in that series! 🙂
Thanks so much, I’m glad you enjoyed this post and my answers! 🙂 ❤️

Thanks so much for doing this one, Beth! I love your answers so much, especially because you used some of my all time faves – His Dark Materials and Daughter of Smoke and Bone – and some that I’m dying to read as well.
I wasn’t aware Defy the Stars was that good! I’m really curious about it now, especially considering the awesome romance 🙂 That’s such a rare thing nowadays. I guess it’s one of those cases where the cover turned me off and I didn’t care to dig deeper and find out about it. Thanks for letting me know!
A lovely post, as always ❤ ^_^

That’s all right, thanks again for tagging me! 😀 Oh yeah, they’re all time favourites of mine as well so I just had to include them. Defy the Stars was amazing, I had no expectations for it but it completely blew me away, just amazing. Yeah I’ve got to say I’m not really a fan of any of the covers for the Defy the Stars books (there’s been about three/four I swear!) but the book is much much better don’t worry. 🙂
Thanks so much Sophie! 🙂 ❤️

Hello Beth ❤
Mulan is my favourite Disney princess of all time. It is also the first Disney movie I watched when I came to Canada from China (18 years ago!) I loved that it is based on the true story of a daughter who pretended to be a son so she could take her aging father's place in the war. I also loved the comedic touches and the music in the movie ("Let's get down to business!") And of course, being Chinese, I could relate to Mulan, and I admired how fierce and daring she is! This is a movie that I must have watched 10+ times as a kid haha :')

Oh I love Mulan, I can’t actually remember when I watched it (the first Disney film I can remember watching was actually Snow White but I think my mum has said me and my sister saw The Jungle Book before that). I love the humour and the music, and the dragon the best of all (Mushu right?). I think no matter what you can’t go wrong with a Disney film can you? 🙂 ❤
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes absolutely! Mushu is pretty awesome and always made me laugh 🙂 Snow White was one of the first that I’ve seen as well.

Snow White is one of the original Disney films if I’m remembering correctly. Not sure if it was the first but it’s definitely one of the earliest.

THE FOX AND THE HOUND??!! Ahhh I remember that one and I remember crying about it?! Thank you for reminding me of that, Beth, haha 🙂 And Lyra, perfect choice, I love her so much, she has to be my favorite character of all times ❤
LikeLiked by 1 person
No matter how many times I watch it I always end up crying. I own the DVD but haven’t been able to bring myself to play it for ages now because I know I’ll end up bawling like a baby. 🙂 Ha, it’s a great film right? And yeah Lyra is one of those childhood favourite characters you never grow out of. 🙂 ❤

I love your answers, I’ve done this tag too! And why didn’t I thought about The Dregs for the most diverse crew OMG, I end up with Rampion crew, they’re diverse too right? 😂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Thanks so much! 😀 And oh the Rampion crew is a great answer for that question (The Lunar Chronicles is an all-time fave series of mine). They were actually one of my answer possibilities, but I think one of the people who tagged me chose them so I chose a different crew for my post. 🙂

I would have to say my favorite debut book hands down is Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson! After that I have never looked back! Lol! I am totally obsessed with her books and buy them all!

Oh that is an amazing debut book, and I completely get what you mean as well because Since You’ve Been Gone was the first book by Morgan Matson I picked up to and I’ve never looked back since either. 🙂
I will say my favourite by her is Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour though! 😀

Yes definitely. The duology are two of Leigh Bardugo’s best books in my opinion, and all-time favourites of mine overall. 🙂 I’m sure you’ll love it as well. 😀
