Where is spring? Does anyone know because it sure as hell isn’t here in England.
After the insane weather we had at the end of February and March I cannot wait for summer and for the warmer weather to finally arrive, but will it ever arrive, who knows at this point? Another month has been and gone; and I officially started my new job, read and re-read some incredible books, and overall just had a pretty decent month.

I am officially behind on my Goodreads Reading Challenge. Maybe 125 books was too ambitious. I’d fallen behind on my blogging and my reviewing so this month I let my reading fall in the wayside while I caught up. Still it’s only the end of March, I still have nine months to go to get back on track and now I’m caught up on my blogging I can catch up on reading again.
The best book I picked up in February was – and this will come as no surprise considering how excited I was for its release during my February Recap post – Obsidio. It lived up to the hype I created for it in my head and had me on the edge of my seat. There was plenty from all my favourite characters, especially AIDAN, and all in all it was a perfect ending to the series.
The worst book I picked up this month was also Obsidio, because as amazing as it was the fact that it’s been released and I’ve read it means one of my all-time favourite series is now over. I have nothing left to come from the world or the characters I loved so much, there is nothing more Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff will be writing for this series.
My WIP
Am I on track to start re-writing my WIP now it’s nearly April? No. Am I going to start re-writing my WIP now it’s nearly April? Yes.
I’ve discovered that on its own planning and researching aren’t strengths of mine. The main reason is that my WIP changes so often once I start writing it, I go off on so many tangents, that half of my outlines and research notes are never used.
I have a solid-ish plan for the first ten chapters – which includes a plot outline and chapter-by-chapter breakdown, character names, world building notes, and plenty of aesthetics. After that, for chapter eleven onwards, I’m going to see where my story takes me and plan as I write. Based on the work I did for NaNo last November that’s where my strengths lie; editing and researching as I go along.
Life in General
There was a Winnie-the-Pooh exhibition at the V&A, and the second I saw it advertised I knew I had to go. Alongside Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland it was the Winnie-the-Pooh stories that defined my early childhood. The exhibition was amazing, going through the history of the author and his inspiration for the books, and how the stories have been developed throughout the years.
Every year I go to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London, and this year was no exception. No matter how many times I’ve been (and it’s been quite a few times now) there’s always something I love seeing and there’s nothing quite like seeing the doors open onto the Great Hall at the very beginning of the tour.
I finally got around to seeing The Greatest Showman at the cinema, better late than never right? It was just as amazing as everyone told me it was, and the second I left the cinema I was on Amazon buying the soundtrack and pre-ordering the DVD.
Other notable things that happened this month were that I started my new job – so I was very busy at work this month – brought a new car, and started baking again – unfortunately there are no photos to share with you yet, but come next month’s recap there will be pictures I can share of the yummy things I’ve made.
More books were brought in March, and while not all of those books have been read yet I actually think my buying habits were pretty well controlled this month.
Books
- The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
- The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon
- Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
- Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
- The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid
- The Empress by S.J. Kincaid
Platform 9 3/4

Fairy Loot
- State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury
Book wise I don’t think there’s much I’m desperately excited for being released in April, Leah on the Offbeat being the one exception to that statement. We also have the Love, Simon movie coming out in the UK next month so I’ll be able to see the movie and read Becky Albertalli’s new release all in the same month. I am definitely going to get around to Children of Blood and Bone, but other than that my TBR list is a mystery for me(the life and trials of a mood reader).
There is nothing worthy of noting here that I have planned for April, asides from a few birthdays coming up (so I need to get present shopping). However this may be a good thing because it gives me a chance to catch up on reading and get to grips with re-writing my WIP; wish me luck.
I hope everyone else had a good March, and I hope you all have an even better April as well.
Let me know what books you’ve read during the third month of the year, and if you’re holding out hope for warmer weather to arrive soon? Is April a quiet month for you like it seems to be for me, and what do people who’ve seen it think of the Love, Simon movie, no spoilers please?
Happy reading!
I love these kinds of blog-posts,they’re so inspiring and motivate me to work harder on my blog.Lots of love, keep blogging!<3

Wonderful re-cap! I am also wondering where the heck Spring went cause with snow every other day in NYC, it’s absence is really felt lol. I’m so so ready for the warmer weather & outdoor bookish photos. Obsidio! ugh! that series has left such a deep hole in my heart that i can’t even begin to imagine I could fill. Children of Blood and Bone was AMAZING in every which way, hope you love it! *have a feeling you will haha* & YASSS for Leah & the Offbeat! cannot wait to own a copy. I wish you all the creative flow for your WIP & a happy month of reading in April! ❤ ❤ ❤

Thanks so much Lilly! I feel like we finally have spring in the UK but it’s been a while coming, I hope it arrives in NYC for you soon. Also we won’t be complaining it’s too hot anytime soon will we? 😀
I can’t either, and thanks. I’ve heard brilliant things about Children of Blood and Bone so I’m sure I’ll end up loving too. Leah on the Offbeat is going to be incredible too (so many incredible books being released right?)
Thanks so much! 🙂 ❤

Oh that Winnie the Pooh exhibition sounds great- I loved it when I was younger too. That’s cool that you go to the Harry Potter studio every year- I’d like to go someday 🙂 And I really want to see the greatest showman too- I’m so glad it was good! Fantastic haul! Good luck with your WIP plans!

Thanks so much! 🙂 And yeah March was a great month overall, here’s hoping the rest of the year will be.
Obsidio is brilliant, I’m sure you’ll love it. The Winnie-the-Pooh exhibit was amazing, I’m glad I got a chance to go because it was so nostalgic . I hope you make it to the HP Studio Tour one day, it’s a brilliant experience.
Thanks so much. 🙂

Looks like you had a really amazing month, Beth ❤
I’m so jealous about your Harry Potter tour experience, if I ever get the chance to visit London that will probably be one of the first things I do! I love your Newt scarf and those exploding chocolate bonbons look delicious.
The Greatest Showman is still on my to watch list, but I am really happy to see that you enjoyed it as well. I really want to read Love, Simon & Leah On The Off Beat soon – Love, Simon is only getting released over here in May so I can’t wait to read your thoughts on it.
Hope you have a lovely April 🌸

Thanks, yeah March was pretty amazing. 🙂
I’d definitely recommend going on the HP tour if you get a chance, it’s a wonderful experience. Oh ever since I saw Fantastic Beasts I wanted Newt’s scarf so I had to buy it.
I’m sure you’ll love it, I’d heard great things but it was even better than I thought it would be. Oh that sucks about not getting Love Simon until May?! But I’m sure it will be worth the wait.
Thanks so much, you too. 🙂 ❤️

Hello Beth! Happy April!
Congrats on your new car and new job! Sounds like it was an eventful month for you! The Harry Potter studio tour sounds like a lot of fun. I’ll definitely have to go one day 🙂
That is awesome that you are ready to start re-writing your WIP! Sounds like you have a good plan moving forward. I think it makes sense to plan out the first part, leaving some room for improvisation later on. I also find that I tend to get new ideas and make stuff up as I go along (that’s the fun part of writing, right?!)
Yes I get what you mean about Obsidio being the best and worst book! Although I enjoyed reading it, it is sad to have to say goodbye to the characters as the series finishes!
Wishing you a wonderful month ❤

Hi Sophie. 🙂
Thanks so much. Yeah definitely an eventful month, I guess it’s no wonder it flew by, but a great month at the same time. Oh it you make it to the HP Studio Tour I’m sure you’ll love it.
I think this is a plan for my WIP that will actually work, rather than focusing on researching I’ll do both at the same time, and like you that’s the fun part for me too.
Definitely sad, but a brilliant ending and I guess that’s all we could ask for right?
Thanks Sophie, I hope you have a great April to. 🙂 ❤

Sounds like you are ready to take the plunge and start writing! I find that I always end up doing some research along the way anyway, no matter how prepared I am going into a novel. Good luck 🙂 Looking forward to more updates!

Definitely, I’m looking forwards to getting back into it actually. Honestly that’s probably what I’ll do, I may even manage to get more research done once I start writing you never know.
Thanks Sophie! 😀

Enjoy! Are you doing Camp Nano by any chance? 🙂 I always have Google at my fingertips when I am writing haha. There is always something that I need to quickly look up!

I’m not doing Camp NaNo in April, but I’m thinking about it in July (I think there’s another one in July right? Or at some point later this year before NaNo). Yeah I wouldn’t be able to write without having Google on hand either. 🙂

Yes, there is another Camp Nano in July (that was the one that I participated in last year) so no worries if you can’t join this one! I decided to join the April one as a last minute decision since I have a word count goal in mind for this month anyway 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
In that case I’ll join the one in July. This month I’m just writing with no goal other than the write you know? When I have more of a goal I’ll join Camp NaNo again.
But good luck with it for this month Sophie! 😀 ❤️

Sounds good 🙂 Sometimes it is refreshing to write for sake of writing and see where it carries you. I’ll have to see what I am working on in July, not too sure whether I’ll be doing Camp Nano then but will let you know 🙂

Exactly, I feel like most of my best ideas start off as something different but have evolved when I started writing you know?
Yes, please do! 😀

I can’t wait to read Obsidio, even if I am really scared of whatever will happen in it hahaha, I am still eager to read it and I hope I will love it just as much as you did 🙂
It’s great to hear about you trying to re-write your WIP, I wish you the best of luck with it! You already have outlines for the first chapters and loads of aesthetics so you are good to go for sure, yay! I’ll be rooting for you 🙂
I hope that someday I’ll get to go to the Harry Potter Studios, I love your pictures and it seems like such a great place to go to haha 🙂
Can’t wait to hear what you think of Children of Blood and Bone as well, given that everyone so far seems to have LOVED this haha 🙂
I hope you’ll have a fantastic April, Beth! 🙂 x

For some reason when it comes to books I’ve been waiting ages for I don’t really get that scared that they won’t live up to my expectations you now? I think it’s just because I’m so excited that they’re finally released I don’t leave time to feel any emotion other than that. 🙂
Obsidio was great though so hopefully it’ll live up to your hopes Marie, and thanks so much. Yeah I’m as prepared as I’m ever going to be so I just need to get to writing now.
Oh it’d be amazing if you did. There’s no other experience like it so if you get a chance jump on it, and yeah I’ve heard nothing bad about Children of Blood and Bone.
Thanks Marie, I hope you have a brilliant April too. 😀 ❤

Oh I think that’s amazing – to be honest, part of me is always scared that the books won’t live up to my expectations anyway, whether it’s a sequel or not, hahaha. 🙂
You’re so welcome! ❤

It’s definitely something to be said for starting the books the very second I have them in my hands. I don’t give myself time to feel anything but excited that they’re finally out. 🙂

You had a good month 🙂 you’ve still got time to pull back your gr goal! I was something like 7 books behind at the beginning of March and now I’m 3 books ahead 😅 you’ve got this!
Glad to see you enjoyed all of your books for this month! I hope you have a great April! ❤️❤️

Yeah overall I’m pleased with this month because the books I read were amazing even if there wasn’t that many of them, and hopefully I’ll be able to get much more reading done in April. Wow that’s impressive you went from -7 to +3! 😀
Thanks Lauren, and yeah you too! 🙂 ❤

I also read the whole Illuminae series this past month! You don’t think they won’t make another one from the end of the book?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I mean, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed they do make another one because I would love that, but I dunno I don’t think so. It ended in a way that you don’t really need another one to carry on the story you know?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yea but it also left it open. I don’t trust them after the crap they pulled in the stories 😂

I suppose the worry is if they go back it will mean the characters aren’t safe after all. I’d still be first in line to get a copy if they did continue with the series though! 😀

Give me warmer weather please!! It’s supposed to snow on Monday where I live and I just want to cry (with all of my books providing comfort, of course). YAS to The Greatest Showman (I really need to pick it up on DVD), I’m so excited to read Obsidio and Leah on the Offbeat, and I’m so excited for YOU to see Love, Simon!

I’m pretty much praying for warmer weather now, and yeah I heard that about snow where I am too but I don’t buy it; it’s cold but not that cold here. I hope you didn’t get any snow either.
It was amazing, I’m going to be re-watching it when my DVD actually arrives. I hope you enjoy Obsidio, and yeah Leah on the Offbeat and Love, Simon are sure to be amazing! 😀

Thanks!! We actually did get an inch of snow here ( I think it’s some kind of belated April Fools joke). Hopefully getting to Obsidio & Leah on the Offbeat soon!

That’s all right, and god that sucks. I’d definitely take that as an April Fools joke, it’s April we should be well past snow now! 🙂

Is the weather ever going to be normal again??? It doesn’t seem that way lol. I’m tired of having to check the temperature every time I leave the house, it should just be shorts weather for me at this point 😛 That Pooh exhibit looks so cute, and the HP one sounds amazing!

I don’t think so, part of me is seriously doubting summer is ever going to arrive! 😀 Yeah I’m looking forwards to being able to leave the house without needing a jacket or coat.
It was amazing, they both were actually. No matter how many times I go to the Studio Tour I love it so much. 🙂

Your March book covers are so aesthetically pleasing! It’s supposed to be autumn here in Australia, but it’s still hot so I’m just hoping this weather stays like this longer because I hate the cold LOL. Stay warm!

Yeah the exhibition and Studio Tour were great days out, I’m glad I went, and I definitely had a good month in terms of the books I read too. Re-reads are always fun aren’t they? 🙂
Children of Blood and Bone is next on my to-read list. I just need to finish the book I’m currently reading and then I’ll be getting started on it.
Thanks Lashaan, you too. 🙂 ❤

And don’t worry about being behind on your reading challenge. I am too, but I only have a goal of 60 books hahaha
Happy April! ❤
