Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books on my Spring TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books on my Spring TBR List.

I’ve never really been good at sticking to TBR lists. All you need to do is look at some of the monthly ones I’ve set in the past to see how bad I am at sticking to them. The ten books on my list this week are books I want to read (but as a mood reader that could change at any given time) and that I hope to get around to soon, but whether I do or not is anyone’s guess.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

Everyone is talking about this book. It’s one of my most anticipated releases of this year and based on what’s been said about it so far I know I’m going to love it, so why haven’t I started it yet? Well this is the book that I think is going to be in the Fairy Loot March box so my copy is still a few days away from being in my hands.

Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

Continuing with my aim to catch up on Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters books before the release of the last book in The Dark Artifices series I have the second half of The Mortal Instruments series on my to-read list for spring. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read so far, and while I don’t know if the next three books can beat The Infernal Devices trilogy I can’t wait to get started on them.

To love is to destroy…

The Mortal War is over, and Clary Fray is home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She’s training to become a Shadowhunter and – most importantly of all – she can finally call Jace her boyfriend. But her happiness has come at a price…

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

There have been some glowing reviews for this book, and from the sounds of the blurb Daughter of the Pirate King is going to be a story I love. Also given that the second book in the series has recently been released if I do enjoy this one I can immediately jump into the second book in the series.

Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map – the key to a legendary treasure trove – seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell

I’m not sure what drew me to this book, it was likely a mixture of the cover and the fact that the blurb brought to mind one of my all-time favourite series, but I really want to try and pick it up soon. The third book in the series is being released in May so I have the first and second book in the series on my TBR list for spring.

Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West

Spring and summer (when the weather starts getting warmer and the evenings lighter) I pick up all the YA contemporary books on my to-read list. Kasie West is one of my favourite authors when it comes to light hearted and fluffy stories, and it’s not just her new release I have to look forwards to but a couple of others from last year I didn’t manage to get around to in 2017.

Talking to other people isn’t Kate Bailey’s favourite activity. She’d much rather be out on the lake, soaking up the solitude and sunshine. So when her best friend, Alana, convinces Kate to join their high school’s podcast, Kate is not expecting to be chosen as the host. Now she’ll have to answer calls and give advice on the air? Impossible.

But to Kate’s surprise, she turns out to be pretty good at the hosting gig. Then the podcast gets in a call from an anonymous guy, asking for advice about his unnamed crush. Kate is pretty sure that the caller is gorgeous Diego Martinez, and even surer that the girl in question is Alana. Kate is excited for her friend…until Kate herself starts to develop feelings for Diego. Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli

It took me a long time to get around to The Upside of Unrequited after it was released. I can guarantee it won’t take me as long to get around to Leah on the Offbeat when it’s out.

When it comes to drumming, Leah Burke is usually on beat—but real life isn’t always so rhythmic.

She’s an anomaly in her friend group: the only child of a young, single mom, and her life is decidedly less privileged. She loves to draw but is too self-conscious to show it. And even though her mom knows she’s bisexual, she hasn’t mustered the courage to tell her friends—not even her openly gay BFF, Simon.

The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

So far every year since I picked up Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief back in 2016 I’ve read one of Rick Riordan’s series, and this year it’s going to be the Kane Chronicles. I’ve not read a book that focuses on Egyptian mythology before, but this is a trilogy by Rick Riordan so I know it’s going to be good.

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

The Diabolic is a book that’s been on and off my TBR list as I’ve debated whether I would read it or not. At the moment it’s firmly on my ‘I will read this book soon’ list so fingers crossed it stays there because I have heard good things about the series.

Ringer by Lauren Oliver

Honestly I’m not sure why I haven’t gotten around to this one before now, but it will be one of my priorities for spring. I really enjoyed Replica, it was the first book by Lauren Oliver I picked up but it definitely won’t be the last, and I’ve heard some good things about Ringer so I can’t wait to get started.

Like its ambitious companion novel, Replica, this far-reaching novel by powerhouse bestselling author Lauren Oliver digs deep into questions of how to be a human being in a world where humanity cannot be taken for granted.

In the world outside the Haven Institute, Lyra and Caelum are finding it hard to be human—and neither of them knows where they belong or who they can trust. When Caelum leaves without warning to pursue the dream of a place he belongs, Lyra follows him, convinced that together they will hunt down a cure for the illness that’s slowly consuming her mind. A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

I think I’m going to have to rename May ‘Maas Month’. Not only is A Court of Frost and Starlight being released, and I know that’s a book I’m going to start the second I have it in my hands, but I’m hoping to get around to The Assassin’s Blade and Tower of Dawn that month as well.

Narrated by Feyre and Rhysand, this story bridges the events in A Court of Wings and Ruin and the upcoming spinoff novels.

Feyre, Rhys, and their close-knit circle of friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming.
