Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite Book Quotes

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Favourite Book Quotes.

When it comes down to it I could fill a book longer than the longest book I’ve ever read (and bearing in mind I’ve read four of the five A Song of Fire and Ice books so it would be quite long) with all my favourite book quotes. In order to narrow down to list I’ve picked my favourite quotes from some of my favourite books that I read or re-read last year (and even that was a struggle I will admit).

Top Ten Tuesday #96

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi
Check out my review here.

“I’d almost forgotten the true power of a story…how it lulled you outside your thoughts, let you process the world in a way that was palatable. Not poisonous.”

The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon
Check out my review here.

“You have risen from the ashes before. The only way to survive,” he said, “is to believe you always will.”

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab
Check out my review here.

“Myths do not happen all at once.

They do not spring forth whole into the world. They form slowly, rolled between the hands of time until their edges smooth, until the saying of the story gives enough weight to the words – to the memories – to keep them rolling on their own.

But all stories start somewhere, and that night, as Rhy Maresh walked through the streets of London, a new myth was taking shape.”

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Check out my review here.

“You think, as you walk away from Le Cirque des Rêves and into the creeping dawn, that you felt more awake within the confines of the circus.

You are no longer quite certain which side of the fence is the dream.”

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Check out my review here.

“Brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared, Starr,” she says. “It means you go on even though you’re scared. And you’re doing that.”

The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough
Check out my review here.

“We have all the time in the world.” Love found a record. He laid it on the player. The music started again, scratchy from age, but so sweet and beautiful and deep.

Someday.

And there, in the darkness, Love and Death and the ones inside of them danced until the song was done.

And then, when all around them was silent and still, they disappeared.

Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
Check out my review here.

“Tomorrow will be better.”

“But what if it’s not?” I asked.

“Then you say it again tomorrow. Because it might be. You never know, right? At some point, tomorrow will be better.”

A Million Junes by Emily Henry
Check out my review here.

“I promise you. I promise you the stars. I promise you the lake and falls, coywolves and robins. I promise earth and heaven: I will love you long after the last human has taken his last breath. When the stars burn out and the oceans freeze over and the whole world is ash and dust and ice, our names will still be carved into this tree of life, side by side, and I’ll still be loving you.”

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
Check out my review here.

“I cannot tell you how you will survive without me. I cannot tell you how to mourn me.  I cannot convince you to not feel guilty if you forget the anniversary of my death, or if you realize days or weeks or months have gone by without thinking about me. I just want you to live.”

All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater
Check out my review here.

“Do you have darkness inside you?”

“Yes,” Tony said.

“And do you want to be rid of it?”

This is a harder question to answer than one might think at first blush. Almost no one would think it’s correct to answer this question with a no, but the truth is that we men and women often hate to be rid of the familiar, and sometimes our darkness is the thing we know the best.

So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know what your favourite book quotes are.

  1. Oh wow, these are such beautiful quotes, Beth! The A Million Junes quote is truly beautiful (I only read The Love that Split the World, but that 100% seems like something April Henry would write). And ugh, I’m planning on starting TBDATE sometime soon and that quote already makes me a little sad! Great post. ❤

    1. I tried to pick quotes this week that made me feel something when I first read them. 🙂 Oh A Million Junes is a favourite of mine, and Henry is definitely one of my top magical realism authors as well. Anything she releases is going to the top of my to-read list that’s for sure! 😀
I really hope you love TBDATE, though it will probably break your heart at the same time.
      Thanks so much! 🙂 ❤️

I cannot tell you how to mourn me. I cannot convince you to not feel guilty if you forget the anniversary of my death, or if you realize days or weeks or months have gone by without thinking about me. I just want you to live.”….***weeps*** WONDERFUL choices my friend 🙂

    1. It’s such a beautiful book isn’t it? Emily Henry is definitely one of my all-time favourite magical realism authors and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next. 🙂
It’s possibly the most well-known quote from They Both Die at the End but I LOVED it, and couldn’t really not include it in this post.
      Thanks so much! 🙂 ❤️

  3. Oh you have so many amazing quotes here, Beth, brilliant choices. That quote from A Conjuring of Light is giving me CHILLS, I love it so much. And YES to that Amy & Roger quote, it is one of my favorites of all times, it’s beautiful ❤ ❤ I haven't read A Million Junes, but I do love that quote you included! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Marie! 🙂 ❤️ I had a lot of fun coming up with the perfect ten for this list. Yes when I first saw this topic something along the lines of that quote was one I knew I had to include for ACOL. 🙂 Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour is my ultimate wanderlust read, and oh A Million Junes is another great read, I’d definitely recommend it! 😀

  4. Hello Beth!
I love these book quotes that you chose. I read Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour a while back and absolutely loved it. I’ve heard about A Million Junes, which is a book that I am thinking about adding to my TBR 🙂
    Thanks for sharing ❤

    1. Hi Sophie! 🙂
Thanks so much, I had so much fun with this weeks theme because I love book quotes so much. Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour is my number one wanderlust inspiring read, and oh A Million Junes is incredible, I’m sure you’ll love it if you decide to pick it up.
That’s all right, I’m glad you enjoyed this post. ❤️

      1. I see! I’ll look forward to reading A Million Junes then 🙂
I am on Chapter 25 of Days of Blood and Starlight now (about 20% through) and I am really loving it so far 🙂 Have you started reading this book and where are you now?
I forgot to mention this in my previous comment, but that’s great to hear that your new job is going well 🙂

      2. I actually finished Days of Blood and Starlight yesterday (I’m sorry, I’m a really fast reader) but what do you think so far? Are you enjoying it, and what are your thoughts on Thiago? When I was reading it (the first time) I kept changing my mind about what I thought he was you know?
        Thanks Sophie! 🙂 ❤

      3. Wow!! You are a super fast reader 🙂 I think I kind of expected that you would finish quickly because of this haha.
I am liking the book so far (1/3 through). I am not too fond of Thiago so far… he seems manipulative and secretive in that I get the sense that he’s not telling Karou the full story. However it seems like maybe he has a soft side and there is more to his character? I don’t know and I am curious to read more haha 🙂

      4. Ha, yeah I have a lot of spare time to read as well.
Ohh, you really do have the best still to come then. I was never a massive fan of Thiago, but I loved what Laini Taylor did with his character (you’ll understand what I mean soon when I saw you have the best to come). What do you think of the other characters? Who’s your favourite so far?
It’s a great story isn’t it, and I’m glad you’re loving it so far as well Sophie.

      5. Hmmm….. I am still hating Thiago haha!! (I think I am about 70-80% through by now) Interesting to see how this will turn around?! But he’s already dead!? (Wait don’t answer that lol!! :’) )
I like the secondary characters the best. My favourites so far are Hazael and Liraz. (Very very sad about Hazael!!) I also like Zuzanna, who is hilarious 🙂 Who are your favourite characters?

      6. Ha, yeah unless you’ve read it already I don’t think you’d be able to guess where Thiago’s character goes, and when I say Thiago’s character I don’t quite mean Thiago’s character (you’ll understand when you get to that part, I hope). But don’t worry I wouldn’t have answered that question anyways.
Oh my god yes Hazael’s death kind of killed me a little the second time reading it as well. Oh I seem to have a different favourite character in every book, in the second it was Hazael, Liraz and Ziri, mainly because of the character development they had throughout. It really made them stand out for me. 🙂

      7. Wow I know what you mean now!! (I just finished the book haha) I totally did not expect that plot twist!! I guess now I like Thiago since I like Ziri 🙂 I was hoping that they could resurrect Hazael but it was so sad when that couldn’t be done!
The ending was such a cliffhanger, which makes me look forward to the next book!

      8. It’s an insane plot twist isn’t it?! I didn’t see it coming and yeah it made me more interested in Thiago’s character because technically it wasn’t Thiago’s character anymore, it was Ziri.
Do you plan to start the next book soon then? 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      9. Hahaha Beth I am not surprised that you are already done!!! That’s good to hear that you liked the ending 🙂
I am a bit more than halfway through. They took back control of the ship from Garver and AIDAN is revived (yay!) Love it so far 😀

      10. Obsidio was always going to one of those books I sped read through. 😀
Oh that was a brilliant scene, and even after what he did I was glad to see AIDAN come back again. The part where Garver killed (I’m not going to say the name because of spoilers so I’m going to hope you’ll know who I’m talking about) was such a shock to me for some reason. Probably shouldn’t have been given how many other people this series has killed. 🙂

      11. I was surprised too when that character died 😦 I am hoping that the MCs will survive the final battle and have lunch in St. Petersburg haha, but we’ll see 🙂

    1. Same here, I had so much fun coming up with my top ten because it gave me an excuse to look through pages of quotes from all my favourite books.
Oh A Million Junes is a brilliant book, Emily Henry is one of my favourite magical realism authors actually. 🙂

  5. My favourite’s from a horror book by Guy N Smith, who is a terrible writer but great fun to read because he’s so awful. It’s from Night of the Crabs: “What a beautiful night,” said Kasey as they walked along the Dorset coast. “What a shame about the giant crabs terrorising the county.”

    1. I’ve got to admit that’s a good quote. It’s definitely made me curious about the book and it made me laugh reading it which is generally the best way to get me interested in something. 🙂
I get what you mean, there’s something so fun about writing like that! 😀
