Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I Hope Santa Brings.
In my opinion there’s no better Christmas present than books (except maybe money or vouchers to buy more books). That’s why, when my friends and my family ask me what I want for Christmas, I already have a list of books for them on hand. That’s also why when I post my December/January book haul it will be packed with books I either got for Christmas or brought with Christmas money.
Shadowblack by Sebastien de Castell
I brought the first book earlier this year and while I haven’t gotten around to it yet it does have some good reviews so I’m confident it’ll be a good read for me. Plus having the second one will make it easy to jump into the story straight away once I’ve finally read Spellslinger.
The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night by Jen Campbell
This is one of the most gorgeous covers I have ever seen, and I would actually buy the book solely to have that cover sitting on my bookshelves. Luckily the blurb makes it sound like my kind of book, because although short stories are hit or miss, magical realism is always a big hit for me.
Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan
In order to have my copies of Rick Riordan’s books match I need to wait a year after his most recent releases are out in order to get the paperback copy. It’s not all that bad though, because I’m not going to read the Magnus Chase series until all the books have been released.
Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
The first book in this series was an unexpected favourite of mine, and while Down Among the Sticks and Bones is a book I still need to read the whole series is one I need to buy. Really my list this week should include Every Heart a Doorway as well.
It Devours!: A Night Vale Novel by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor
I am a huge fan of the Welcome to Night Vale podcast, so a few years ago when they released their first book I was so excited because it was combining two of my favourite things; books and their podcast. I’m sure their second book will be just as crazy and just as amazing as their first one was.
An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
There have been a few mixed reviews for An Enchantment of Ravens, and my excitement levels are seriously yo-yo-ing. With every great review my hopes rise but with every bad review they fall again. I guess I need to read this book for myself and finally see what I think.
Almost Midnight: Two Short Stories by Rainbow Rowell
I have already read one of the short stories in the Almost Midnight collections, but hearing this book described as “two wintery short stories, decorated throughout” in the blurb just means it’s the perfect Christmas present in my mind.
Harry Potter: A History of Magic by J.K. Rowling
The History of Magic exhibition is now open at the British Library, and I have tickets to go and see it in the new year in February. This book is the companion guide so either way I’ll be buying it, the only question is whether it’s better to have it before or after the exhibition.
La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman
This is kind of cheating because I already know I have La Belle Sauvage for Christmas. My sister buys her Christmas presents really early so I knew mid-October that she already had this book brought and wrapped up for me. The only downside is I’ve had to wait ages to read it.
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
I’ve been hearing great things about this book, everyone who’s read it has loved it, and for some reason it strikes me as the perfect gift for Christmas. The perfect story to curl up with when the days get darker sooner. This is one I’ve asked my friend for so fingers crossed it’s one she buys for me.
So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know what books you hope Santa will bring for you this Christmas.
Books are definitely the best gift possible!!! I’d never get enough of them. ❤ I spot a couple of books here that I hope to try myself someday, after reading the first ones especially! Especially Seanan McGuire's series as well as Katherine Arden's series! Hope you can get your hands on a copy of all these for Christmas, Beth!!! 😉

Oh me neither. In fact I think the only gift I’d say was better than books is book vouchers so I can buy more books! 😀
Well in that case I hope you manage to get around to them soon Lashaan. Seanan McGuire’s series is incredible, and I’ve heard so many great things about Katherine Arden’s books that I feel like I already love it without having read it yet.
Thanks, Lashaan! 😀 ❤

I only asked for a handful of books for Christmas, but It Devours! was on my list as well! I just can’t get over how beautiful the cover is.

Most of my Christmas books I get with the money I get for Christmas! 😀 It still counts as Christmas books in my mind. Yeah that cover is amazing, and hopefully the story itself will be just as amazing (and strange) as well! 🙂

Oh yes, true! I hadn’t thought about books bought with Christmas money, but that makes sense. 🙂

To be honest books brought from Christmas money make up most of my Christmas book haul! 😀

I need to pick up Rick Riordan again. I loved Percy Jackson, but having tried his other series yet. They look great, though! The problem is, there are always so many other books.

Oh definitely do. I only read his books recently but they’re amazing, and to be honest I haven’t got too far with his series either. There are plenty to get through but I kind of like to wait for a series to have finished before I start it, that way I don’t have to worry about cliffhangers! 🙂

What a great list, Beth! So many books I didn’t even recognize!! ❤ It's so great you already know you will be getting The Book of Dust soon… I can’t wait to hear what you think of it, I hope you love it!!

Thanks so much Dani! 🙂 ❤️ Well if you pick up any of these books I really hope you enjoy them, and yeah had to make sure my sister was buying me The Book of Dust this year, if not I would have brought it for myself and had two copies! 🙂

Ooh, I hope you enjoy AEOR more than I did, Beth! Tbh I really dislike that book so much that it makes me happy to see its average rating go down. 😂 But I think it may have a chance with you??? And TBOFTITMOFN (that’s long 😂) has SUCH a pretty cover, I agree!!
Hmm, for Christmas, I’ve asked for Wild Beauty, The City of Brass, Moxie, and Bad Romance!! My mom’s still asking me what else I want to get and I’m like, just get me gift cards. 😂
Hope you get all the books on your list and more!! 💖

Thanks May. 🙂 well I hope I enjoy it as well but at least if I don’t it will be another negative review to make it’s average rating go down. Sounds like that’s something too! 😀 Ha, yeah that is long, but it seems like it will be a gorgeous book so fingers crossed it is.
Oh my god those are incredible books, granted I’ve only read Wild Beauty and The City of Brass myself but they’re amazing May, I’m sure you’ll love them as well.
Thanks so much, I hope you get all the books you want for Christmas too! 😀 ❤

So many good ones! we def have the same mindset when shopping for books lol! I sooooo wanna read Down Among the Sticks and Bones, already have Every Heart a Doorway but need to read it lol. Ok, so question…I’ve also been eyeing La Belle Sauvage but know there are other books set in this world, have you read them?
I hope you get all of the books underneath your Christmas tree Beth! Happy holidays to you & your family! ❤ ❤ ❤

Thanks so much Lilly, and ha yeah we definitely do seem to go for the same books don’t we? As long as we both enjoy them that’s the main thing. Every Heart a Doorway is incredible, and from what I’ve heard so it Down Among the Sticks and Bones as well. 🙂 Yeah I read the other books ages ago now, I’m thinking before I pick up The Book of Dust I’ll have to re-read them, just to get the full experience you know? 🙂
Thanks Lilly. 🙂 I hope you get all the books you want for Christmas as well, and I hope you and your family have a lovely holiday too! 😀 ❤ ❤

I may be doing the same in reading the books set in this world before p/u The Book of Dust 🙂 but I def still will go ahead and order the U.K copy of The Book of Dust cause I don’t want it to go out of stock on me lol. Thank you Beth! ❤ ❤ ❤

I’m sure it won’t go out of stock. I mean, it’s a popular book so it shouldn’t go out of stock or anything. 🙂
That’s all right! ❤

I’ve heard so many good things about An Enchantment of Ravens! I can’t wait to finally read it! And I’m excited about A History of Magic too! I wish it looked like an old magic textbook haha but I’m still really curious to read it (:

Same here, a lot of people seem to have loved that book so here’s hoping we will when we finally get around to it as well. 😀 Oh that would be amazing, if it did look like a Hogwarts textbook, but based on the reviews the info and pictures inside are very pretty so that’s still something! 😀

How cool that your sister already got the book in October! I still have the painful uncertainty of not knowing whether I will get La Belle Sauvage…😄 The Bear And The Nightingale is on my list as well. Everyone seems to rave about this book. 😊

She’s plans really far ahead, means I need to know what I want for Christmas very early on which can sometimes be an issue though! 😀 Ohh, I’ll keep my fingers crossed you do get it then, and yeah I’ve heard so many incredible things about The Bear and The Nightingale as well. 🙂

I hope so too, it’s at the top of my to-read list for next year because I’ve seen some amazing reviews and it just strikes me as a perfect winter read you know?
Oh I hope you really enjoy The Book of Dust and An Enchantment of Ravens then! I’ve heard good things about both, though there are also mixed reviews for the latter out there. 😀

Thank you so much!! Yeah me too!

I’ve been wanting to get An Enchantment of Ravens, also I always ask for Amazon Gift cards for Christmas and my birthday. I’ve found that my family never really gets me things that I really want, and instead of buying books for me, I buy second hand books of amazon and so with the money they would spend on one book, I can buy multiple.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hopefully you get it soon then, and oh that’s a good idea. 🙂 Rather than risk getting books you don’t want or not as many just ask for the gift cards! I may have to remember that for the future because I could probably get a lot more books than I currently do if I spend more wisely! 😀

It’s also better that I choose my own books because I’m a mood reader, and this way I can choose what I’m in the mood for.

Oh I completely get what you mean. I’m a mood reader as well so what I pick up is very dependant on what I want to read at the time. 🙂

Thanks, I really hope so too. It was one I was really excited for at one point so here’s hoping I’ll find it lives up to my expectations before I read some of the mixed reviews. 🙂 Oh definitely do, it’s a gorgeous book and given what I’ve read by Rainbow Rowell so far they are probably gorgeous stories as well. 😀
