The Mystery Blogger Award Part Two

“Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.

Part two of The Mystery Blogger Award comes with answers to all the questions I was asked by my remaining three nominators. I was tagged by Jacquie at Rattle the Stars, Michelle at Sherbet Lemon Reviews, and Tinka at The Crazy Reader. Thanks so much for the tag everyone, I had a lot of fun with this one.

Jacquie’s Questions:

  1. What is your favourite book cover? Why is it your favourite?

There are so many I love but the main one that comes to mind when I think of my favourite is the Firebird series by Claudia Gray. I love the bright colours and I love that it includes landscapes from around, and even outside of, the world. Also the series itself is pretty amazing too.

  1. If you could have two book characters (from different books) fall in love, who would you choose? Why?

Lila and Kashmir
Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab and The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig

The more I thought about this the more I realised how much I would love to see these characters interact, even if they don’t fall in love. Both Lila and Kash are thieves, and while Lila is more brash and ruthless than Kash one thing they have in common is leaving their own world behind for a taste of adventure.

The Mystery Blogger Award (2)

  1. Are books over 500 pages a turn off? Why or why not?

I think it really depends on the book. Some releases this year, namely A Conjuring of Light and A Court of Wings and Ruin, have been massive books and it’s been a case of the more pages the better in my opinion, but then there are others, namely A Dance with Dragons, where I see the page count and just think, ‘no!’

  1. If you could pick one author to write a YA book based on your life who would you pick? Why?

V.E. Schwab for sure. She’s probably my favourite author and she is incredible when it comes to creating unique worlds, so maybe I could convince her to create one for my story. Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it never will.

  1. What mythical creature should authors stop writing about? Why?

At the moment I don’t think there is one. A while ago – a long while ago, when Twilight was released and I first got into reading YA fantasy books – vampires seemed to be everywhere, but I can’t recall even one book released this year with a vampire in. It’s the same story with angels, they used to be overdone but now I don’t see them anywhere.

There are plenty of mythical creatures I’d love to see written about more, mainly dragons. A book can never have too many dragons in it.

Michelle’s Questions:

  1. If you were forced to do one of these things or else die – would you rather bungee jump or tandem sky dive? (assume you were at a legit safe place with people helping who were licensed and knew what they were doing) Also would you be excited to do either or both?

This is a terrible question for me because I am deathly afraid of heights. I went zip lining once and had to get my friend to physically push me off the platform (she was a little too eager to do it, I feel I should be worried). That said if I had to choose I’d say tandem sky diving for two reasons; one I’d be with someone the whole time, and two I actually am going to be sky diving next year.

  1. If Pokémon were real, do you think you’d want to have and/or train and/or keep Pokémon? Why or why not? (no copouts like, “well I don’t really watch/play Pokémon,” just give me something!)

I’d definitely want to keep them. Granted I don’t actually play or watch Pokémon so I could be talking complete nonsense here but I love animals. At one point when I was younger I wanted to be a vet until I realized I’d have to deal with animals dying, so being able to collect and keep Pokémon would be like having loads of pets. That said I don’t know if I’d be able to train/fight them, I’d just want to keep them safe and well.

  1. If you were forced to be a sea pirate or a sky pirate (think Steampunk style) which would you want to be and why?

Sky pirate (I’m thinking of the sky pirates in Stardust rather than any particular style). I love the idea of flying across the sky and through the clouds. Also if you think about it sea pirates are limited to travel where the seas are, sky pirates would have no such limitations because the sky is everywhere.

Stardust

  1. Name one kind of food you really want to try and haven’t tried yet. Or if you are more picky name one food you would be OK with trying if put in a position of trying something new!

I’m definitely not a picky eater, I am willing to try anything once. At the moment more than anything I’d love to try Japanese food. I’ve been to Wagamama and Itsu – places that do healthy, fast, take-away meals – and really loved the dishes there but one day I want to try real Japanese food, preferably while in Japan because that would be amazing.

  1. What animal/Pokémon/Fantastic or mythical beast real or not real do you identify most with and why?

Dragons, because not only are they my favourite mythological creature but I too like fire and hoard my belongings. If I was a dragon I’d be one with a hoard of books, like Smaug in The Hobbit films but instead of gold coins I’d be surrounded by books.

The Hobbit

Tinka’s Questions:

  1. What would you do if you’re feeling really down?

Normally I watch a movie, any movie I feel like watching at the time, or re-read an old favourite book, again any book with a cute and fluffy romance. Sometimes if I’m really really down I just stay in bed and sleep. It depends but it’s normally comfort activities that make me feel cosy inside.

  1. What’s your favourite fictional world?

If I had to pick one I’d have to say The Night Circus (sorry Hogwarts). The world in that book was just pure magic, and the way it was described left me desperate to explore it for myself, discovering the magic and secrets each tent held.

The Night Circus

  1. Who is/are your favourite artist(s) or band(s)?

Fall Out Boy are my all-time, ultimate favourite band and have been for years. I also love Bastille, Imagine Dragons, Little Mix, Taylor Swift and One Republic. There are plenty more, but I have over two thousand songs on my iPod so it would take way too long to list them.

The Mystery Blogger Award (4)

The Mystery Blogger Award (3)

  1. What is your most treasured bookish item that is not a book?

It would be some of the items I’ve got in my monthly Fairy Loot boxes. I loved The Night Circus cushion that was in this year’s January box, it’s my favourite book so now it’s my favourite pillow as well. If I could only pick one favourite and most treasured item it would have to be that one.

The Night Circus Cushion

  1. FUN/WEIRD Question: What is a scene from a book that made you experience some extreme fangirling/fanboying?

Most recently it would have to be the part of The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue when Percy and Monty finally admitted their feelings for one another in Venice. Granted it wasn’t long before Monty put his foot in his mouth and ruined things but for a few pages they were happy and so was I.

My Favourite Blog Post:

Recently I started writing again. I took part in NaNoWriMo this year and as of yesterday I officially reached my target of 50K words, so my favourite posts so far have been the ones where I’ve been brave enough to share small snippets of my writing with you all.

My Questions:

  1. Are there any tropes in books that you go out of your way to avoid, what are they?
  2. If you could take the place of one book character, and live out their role in said book, who would you choose and why?
  3. Money is no object and you can travel anywhere in the world (the real world, not the fictional one) where would you go first?
  4. If you could meet on author, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
  5. FUN/WEIRD Question: Would you rather never be able to go back and read or re-read anything by your favourite author, or never be able to discover any new authors?

My Nominations:

  1. Anna at My Bookish Dream
  2. Azia at The Uncharted Word
  3. Dani at Perspective of a Writer

  5. Poulami at Daydreaming Books

  1. Being a sky pirate would be amazing! I would love to fly around on my ship. Though I wouldn’t mind being a sea pirate either. Pirates in general are simply exiting and I would love to be any kind. 😀
That movie poster for The Hobbit looks amazing! I have actually never seen it before (the poster, not the movie), and I have no idea how it happened…Guess I just never looked at them properly!
Fall Out Boy is one of my all time favourite bands as well! I just love them! ❤ I also really like Bastille and Imagine Dragons. Those are all such amazing bands.
Thank you for nominating me! 😀 ❤

    1. Yeah, think of all the places you could travel and the things you could see. It would be amazing and free travel around the world as well right? 😀
Oh I think I get what you mean because sometimes I don’t pay too much attention to the movie posters. You look at the trailers and wait for the film but the posters are never as exciting as either of those things are they?
They’re amazing bands, and yeah Imagine Dragons and Bastille are great too.
      That’s all right! 😀 ❤

  2. Oh, I love Imagine Dragons, Little Mix, and OneRepublic as well!! Their songs are amazing. 💗 And oh god, I was fangirling SO hard with all the Monty & Percy scenes hahah.

And YESS. I’d definitely have VE Schwab write my life’s story. It’s pretty boring compared to what she writes, but I am sure she’d be able to create sometjing magical of it. 😍

    Great post!

    1. Aww, they’re amazing bands aren’t they? With so many incredible songs too. 🙂 And oh there was just so much to ship when it comes to Monty and Percy in The Gentleman’s Guide, I loved those two characters so much. 😀
It would be like a dream come true right? Also I’d want V.E. Schwab to add some magic into my life’s story, I kind of feel like it needs it you know?
      Thanks May! 😀 ❤

  3. LOVE those covers, Veth, they are just too gorgeous! I read my first Schwab book and was a little underwhelmed which I am SO MAD about… I feel like i didn’t enjoy ADSOM as much because I was in a reading slump and Lila was annoying because I wasn’t in the mood… *cries* I should push on next year and maybe capture the fever in the second book! I ALSO love dragons so much… we need more books with them!! The Night Circus is on my tbr for 2018… I have the book I just need to read it! ❤ Love your answers to these questions! And thank you for nominating me!! I'm taking a tag break in December but will resume in Jan 😉

    1. Yeah the covers were my main reasons for picking up the Firebird series in the first place. You can see why right? Also oh that’s a shame about ADSOM, but maybe if you were in a slump at the time of reading you’ll love the second book more, that’s my hope for you anyways. 🙂
Ohh, I really really hope you love The Night Circus Dani. It’s a fantastic story and yeah probs my all-time favourite standalone book.
That’s all right, take your time. Gods know I have a backlog of tags myself I still need to work my way through. 🙂 ❤

  4. The Firebird covers are just gorgeous! Schwab is awesome!! Sky pirates are so cool!! And I love dragons so much (hehehe great choice about being surrounded by books lol 😉 ) The Night Circus world is so cool! And I’m really obsessed with Reputation right now 🙂 Love your answers to these questions!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. They’re the main reason I picked up that series. 🙂 Ha, yeah who doesn’t love Schwab right?
Oh totally, if I was going to be a dragon I may as well hoard books, to be honest I already have a pretty impressive hoard and I’m not a dragon so I’m really halfway there! 🙂
Reputation is amazing right? One of my friends have tickets to see Taylor Swift next June and I’m kind of jealous.
      Thanks so much. 😀

  5. Congrats on your award, Beth! ❤

The Firebrd series has some of the most beautiful covers in YA I think. I adore that Night Circus cushion! So cool that in came in your Fairy Loot box 😀 I immediately thought of the sky pirates from Stardust, too! I'd love to be one as well. While I think being a normal sea pirate has its perks, a sky pirate feels much more freeing. Also, no sea sickness 😉 Fall Out Boy is LIFE and ohmygod YAS, I love that scene from Gentleman's Guide as well!! Who wouldn't?!?!?!

Great post, Beth! And thanks so much for nominating me 😊

    1. Thanks so much Azia! 😀 ❤
Oh it really does, and I've always said it was the covers that made me pick this series up because, really, who could resist them! 😀 Favourite cushion from my favourite subscription box with an item from my favourite book, ultimate win right?! Ohh, no seasickness is a perk I forgot, I just loved the idea of flying TBH.
Yes love Fall Out Boy, and after so long of waiting that scene from The Gentleman's Guide felt like a long time coming right?
Thanks, and that's all right. I'll be looking forwards to seeing your answers for the questions I set Azia! 😀 ❤

      1. Yeah, you hot a winner with that box! ❤ I feel like sea sickness is an easy thing to forget when comparing sea and sky pirates LOL
Yay! I'll try to get to it as soon as I can 😀

  6. Great answers for this award, Beth! ❤ The Firebird series has one of the most stunning covers of all times, seriously, I could stare at them all day long ahah ❤ I LOVE that Night Circus pillow, wow, it looks SO PRETTY?! I understand why it's your favorite, ahah. Also… yes, I'll read The Night Circus someday, thanks for the reminder with this post 😛

    1. Thanks so much Marie! 😀 ❤ Yeah for that question there was no other series I could have picked. Those covers are the main reason I picked up the Firebird books in the first place.
Oh it's gorgeous right? Definitely the best thing I got from a Fairy Loot box and it's a favourite book of mine so added bonus really. 🙂 Yes definitely read The Night Circus Marie, I need to know what you think of it. 😀 ❤

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed this post. Yes those gorgeous covers are the main reason I added the Firebird series to my to-read list, and I’m not even ashamed to admit it.
I really hope you enjoy the books in this post you still have on your TBR list, and that’s all right. I’ll be looking forwards to seeing your answers for these questions! 😀 ❤

  8. FALL OUT BOY. YESSSSS.

You know, now that I think about it, mythical creatures IN GENERAL have been on the dl these last couple years in YA Fantasy. We had a dragon in Before She Ignites, and we’ve definitely had magic users… but lycans, vamps, phoenixes… even ghost have been less common.

These are all amazing answers! Loved this tag. 🙂

    1. Amazing band right?! 😀
I have Before She Ignites on my to-read list. It was actually hearing it had dragons in it that made me want to read it. 🙂 But yeah there definitely seems to have been less and less magical creatures. Hopefully this is just a faze and before long we’ll see more and more.
Thanks so much Amber. 😀 ❤

  9. Those are indeed gorgeous covers, but I suppose you already knew that!
I haven’t read any of Schwab yet, but it would be amazing to have an entire world created, just to tell your story in!
Great answers, and really good questions! And congrats on working up the courage to share your writing. Sending out so many blog posts was probably good prep for sharing some fiction, I’d imagine.

    1. Ha, yeah. I buy a lot of my books solely because of the gorgeous covers and these were ones I really couldn’t resist! 😀
Oh I’d highly recommend her books, she’s one of my favourite authors and I’d LOVE to live in a world she had created.
Thanks so much, I’m really glad you enjoyed this post. 🙂 Ha, yeah all the books I’ve read have been good research for writing my own story. 😀

  10. Thank you for tagging me Beth! 🙂 Great answers! Those Claudia Gray covers are beautiful! I’ve never read any of her books, but I want to just because the cover is so beautiful! 😀
Wow! You’re going sky diving?! That’s awesome! I don’t think I could ever do it, you’ll have to let me know how that goes because I’m so curious! 😀

    1. That’s all right, I’ll be looking forwards to seeing your answers for the questions I gave. 🙂 Oh they really are, and actually the reason I picked up the Firebird series was because of the covers, I couldn’t resist how gorgeous they were.
Ha, yeah awesome but very scary sounding. I know it will be worth it but I’m terrified at the same time. I’ll definitely let you know, I’ll likely be posting about it on my blog. 🙂

  11. Arrhh so many books here I NEED to read. Especially need to get myself into the “Court of Thorns and Roses” books. I read the first two “Throne of Glass” books and loved them, but I need to read the rest! (It seems everyone is recommending Sarah J Mass) 📚📚😀

    1. A lot of the books I picked for this tag are favourites of mine so I hope you love them as well. 🙂 Oh Sarah J Maas is an incredible author, both of her series are just brilliant and I’m sure you’ll love A Court of Thorns and Roses and the rest of the Throne of Glass series too! 😀
