Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Bookish OTPs

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Book Boyfriends/Girlfriends.

I don’t have book boyfriends/girlfriends, so instead I’ve adapted the theme a little this week and I’m going to talk about ten of my favourite OTPs.

Now this was a topic I did for one of the Freebie Weeks back in January, so I needed to be careful not to feature the same couples twice. I have plenty of OTPs and favourite couples so this wasn’t an issue, but if there are any characters you expected to see on my list this week (namely two characters from my favourite V.E. Schwab trilogy) that aren’t here, it’s because I’ve already featured them back in January.

Top Ten Tuesday #80

Marco and Celia
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

As much as I talk about my love for The Night Circus I rarely speak about my love for Marco and Celia as a couple. The two built the whole of The Night Circus for one another, all the tents and the magic and the wonder was created out of their love for one another.

“Everything I have done, every change I have made to that circus, every impossible feat and astounding sight, I have done for her.”

Vikram and Gauri
A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi

I actually featured Maya and Amar in my previous post, so it made perfect sense to feature Vikram and Gauri in this one. Their relationship took its time to develop, they went all the way from enemies, to uneasy allies, to friends, and finally to something more.

“It felt silly to say that he couldn’t bear to lose her. He never had her. She was not a thing to be possessed. But her entrance in his life had conjured light. And losing the light of her would plunge him into a darkness he’d never find his way out of.”

Esther and Jonah
A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland

This was an incredible book, featuring an incredible relationship between Esther and Jonah. Both characters are broken in their own ways, but together they can forget it all and simply be. Esther is scared of the possibility of being hurt by Jonah but at the same time he makes her want to be brave.

“Yet even there, next to him, the most excellent person in the universe, she couldn’t stop herself from thinking that love was a pitcher plant. Sweet with nectar on the outside, but once you caught the scent and took the plunge, it ate you whole.

Soul and all.”

Monty and Percy
A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

The whole time I was reading The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue I felt like screaming as Monty and Percy kept missing opportunities and just miss communicating. It did make the moment they finally realised their feelings all the more worthwhile, until Monty put his foot in his mouth again.

“It doesn’t matter to me that you’re ill and it doesn’t matter if I have to give up everything, because you’re worth it. You’re worth it all because you are magnificent, you are. Magnificent and gorgeous and brilliant and kind and good and I just…love you, Percy. I love you so damn much.”

June and Day
Legend trilogy by Marie Lu

The relationship between June and Day was one that was tested time and time again, and there seemed to be so much standing in their way. There were a lot of problems the two needed to overcome but they did it in the end, and always seemed stronger for it.

“Then Day reaches out and touches my hand with his. He encloses it in a handshake. And just like that, I am linked with him again, I feel the pulse of our bond and history and love through our hands, like a wave of magic, the return of a long-lost friend. Of something meant to be.”

*Spoilers for Godsgrave below*

Mia and Ashlinn
Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff

Sorry Tric, as much as I loved you in the first book you were quickly replaced by Ashlinn in the second. The way Godsgrave developed their relationship was incredible, and as much as I hated Ashlinn in Nevernight I came to love her, just like Mia did.

“This feels like a dream,” Mia whispered. “And I don’t want to wake.”

She met her eyes, then.

“This is love,” Mia said simply.

And leaning in, she closed her eyes and gifted Ash a gentle kiss.

*End of spoilers*

Abel and Noemi
Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray

There wasn’t much of a romantic relationship between Abel and Noemi in Defy the Stars but I think, I hope, that’s what the series is leading to. After everything they go through you can see how their relationship changes; Noemi goes from willing to sacrifice Abel’s life for her planet to desperate for another answer to save Abel’s life.

“Silently he traces out a new constellation, one only he knows. One with Noemi at the very heart.”

Lazlo and Sarai
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

There’s a lot of pain and heartache in the relationship between Lazlo and Sarai, a lot of pain and heartbreak in Strange the Dreamer when you think about it, but I want so badly for both characters to be happy and when they’re together they seem more hopeful about their lives.

She asked in a hesitant whisper, “Do you still think I’m a…a singularly unhorrible demon?”

“No,” he said smiling. “I think you’re magical, and brave, and exquisite. And…” His voice grew bashful. Only in a dream could he be so bold and speak such words. “I hope you’ll let me be in your story.”

Percy and Annabeth
The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan

Percy and Annabeth are one of my ultimate OTPs, my ‘I-will-go-down-with-this-ship’ pairing. Their relationship has been developing from the first book all the way to the most recent (I’m assuming considering I’ve only read up to The Heroes of Olympus series) and it’s been an incredible journey.

“We’re staying together,” he promised. “You’re not getting away from me. Never again.”

Iko and Kinney
Wires and Nerve Volume One by Marissa Meyer

Like with Defy the Stars this is another relationship not present in the first book, but where I hope the author will take the characters later in the series. Iko has always been a favourite character of mine, and she deserves not only her moment in the spotlight but to be happy as well.

“I misread the romantic tension, Didn’t I?”

So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know what your favourite bookish OTPs are, or what books boyfriends/girlfriends you have.

    1. They’re like the ultimate couple aren’t they? From now on I feel all couples I read will be judged against Percy and Annabeth. 🙂 ❤️
Oh same here. I just wanted them to have their happy ending because it seemed like everything kept getting in their way, even themselves! 🙂

  1. I don’t know most of these?? But that’s okay! I wasn’t a fan of The Night Circus 🙈
I WILL SHIP LAZLO AND SARAI UNTIL I DIE I SWEAR.
Also. THERE IS A NEW SHIP IN GODSGRAVE?!?!? I don’t want to look at who it is because ships are sort of spoilery for me but YAY NEW SHIP

    1. Oh, that’s a shame about The Night Circus, but yes to Lazlo and Sarai. I can’t wait for the next book in that duology to find out what happens to them now, especially after how Strange the Dreamer ended right???
Yep, new ship in Godsgrave, and definitely don’t read what I wrote in this post because it’s a pretty epic spoiler as far as ships go. 😀

  2. You got a couple of my faves in here!! Monty and Percy are just SO amazing. I love that book and I love them. The ending made my heart burst with happiness. I hope to see them again in the next book! And June and Day are one of my ultimate OTPs. Their relationship was complex but so genuine. I loved everything about it. And yes, yes, yes to Marco and Celia. Nice shout out to our favorite book ❤

    1. These are some ultimate OTPs right? 😀 I think from the very first page of The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue I knew Monty and Percy would become one of my OTPs. It did to me too, all the angst and miss communication was worth it in the end right?
I was more from June and Day, but I suppose I’ll have to be content with imagining their happy ending. 🙂
I couldn’t not include The Night Circus, it’s just one of the most incredible books there is. ❤

      1. Ultimate is right haha. That opening scene between Monty and Percy was pure gold. Their romantic journey was hella rough, but so worth it by the end 😀
Yeah, I feel it in my bones that’s what Marie Lu also imagined for Day and June as well haha. I’ll never get tired of seeing The Night Circus in the blogosphere ❤

      2. Oh it really was, and all the miss communication and misadventures just made their romance all the more worthwhile when they finally got together. 🙂
Me neither, I feel like I’m responsible for a lot of The Night Circus in the blogosphere, I talk about it a lot. 🙂 ❤

    1. Thanks so much Dani. Yeah if I’m feeling more inspired about a different topic I’ll switch it up a little. Oh I can’t wait for more from Lazlo and Sarai, especially after the way Strange the Dreamer ended right.
Thanks for the link Dani, I’ll definitely check out your TTT. 🙂 ❤

  3. PRECABETH FOREVER! Oh man. Same for me. They must ALWAYS be a thing. No matter what. I will not be happy with life if they aren’t. It’s like a law that those two need to stay together.
Also Celia and Marco. It’s been like six years or so since I read this book. I think it’s definitely time for a reread, so I can admire their cuteness again.

    1. Definitely 100% agree with you there. I feel like if Percabeth ever broke up it would be one of the signs of the apocalypse or something. 🙂 I certainly can’t imagine them with anyone but each other.
Oh wow definitely a time for a re-read then. It’s an incredible book so I’m sure you’ll love it even more when you pick it up again. 😀

  4. June and Day is definitely one of my OTPs?? They went through SO MUCH and the ending was just heartbreaking and bittersweet, but made their relationship so much STRONGER. Monty and Percy are amazing, I agree! Monty can be an annoying, arrogant, ignorant brat sometimes, and Percy the exact opposite, but I just can’t imagine them with anyone else.

Oh, and PERCY AND ANNABETEH. They are probably my ultimate OTP of all my OTPs, especially since I loved them when I was younger. They were childhood friends first and still remained friends when their relationship turned into romance. They’re just so SUPPORTIVE and LOVING and adj;alkfjadslk;fjalksd. ❤ ❤ Great post, Beth!

    1. Yes, 100% agree with you there. Even though their ending was a little bittersweet I still believe they eventually got their happy ending. It’s what keeps me going when I think of all they went through.
Ha, yeah, Monty wasn’t the best character out there, but I loved him and Percy together, like you said I can’t imagine them with anyone else.
Oh if I’d read the Percy Jackson books when I was younger I’d probably ship them even more than I already do! 😀 They’re like the ultimate relationship goals aren’t they? 🙂 Thanks so much May. ❤

    1. They’re definitely classic ships. I think of all the ships I featured this week those are the ones most people will have as their OTPs too. 🙂
Oh Godsgrave and The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue are incredible books Mikaela. I’m sure you’ll love them, and have two new OTPs when you’ve finished reading them too. 😀 ❤

  5. Fantastic list, Beth – even if I have yet to read most of these books ahah. I’m so happy to see Iko and Kinney on your list, I love them so much and the tension between thm, I can’t wait to see what happens next between them ❤ Also, that quote from Legend made me want to read the book even more, to see if I end up shipping the two characters as much as you do 😀

    1. Thanks so much Marie. 🙂 ❤ Oh Iko and Kinney were incredible in Wires and Nerve (and even in the small scenes we got of them both together in Winter). I'm hoping we'll get much more of them together in the second volume, I can't wait! 🙂
Oh definitely read Legend Marie, given you loved Marie Lu's other books I think you're bound to love that trilogy. It's definitely a favourite of mine. 🙂 ❤

  6. Esther and Jonah were quite a couple. Esther’s world was definitely better with Jonah in it. June and Day are another of my tippy top couples. That ending! I am cannot tell you how excited I am to get a Legend short story, because I need answers.

    1. The relationship between Esther and Jonas was so sweet and supportive and they really did help heal (I guess you could say) each other. 🙂
Same here, they went through so much together and I like to believe they eventually got their happy ending. Oh same here, also I’m always going to want more from June and Day! 😀 ❤

  7. The Night Circus is one of my favourite books and I am right there with you with the love for Marco and Celia (I plan on rereading this book in December)! Also June and Day 😍 😍 😍 I love them too! I haven’t read the other books on your list, but they’re pretty much all on my tbr!

    1. The Night Circus is just so amazing isn’t it? I re-read it myself back in March and I think I loved it even more not than I did before. I hope you enjoy your re-read in December. 🙂
Oh June and Day were just incredible. They went through so much together so I’m glad they ended up with a happy(ish) ending. 😀
I really hope you enjoy these other books, and are as crazy about the couple as I am. 🙂 ❤
