Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde
When BFFs Charlie, Taylor and Jamie go to SupaCon, they know it’s going to be a blast. What they don’t expect is for it to change their lives forever.
Charlie likes to stand out. SupaCon is her chance to show fans she’s over her public breakup with co-star, Reese Ryan. When Alyssa Huntington arrives as a surprise guest, it seems Charlie’s long-time crush on her isn’t as one-sided as she thought.
While Charlie dodges questions about her personal life, Taylor starts asking questions about her own.
Taylor likes to blend in. Her brain is wired differently, making her fear change. And there’s one thing in her life she knows will never change: her friendship with Jamieโno matter how much she may secretly want it to. But when she hears about the Queen Firestone SupaFan Contest, she starts to rethink her rules on playing it safe.
I haven’t read Queens of Geek yet but it is a book that’s high on my to-read list. It’s a fandom story and if there’s one thing I love seeing in contemporary books, in all YA books, it’s fandom representation.
What’s more I’ve heard incredible things about Queens of Geek. Every review I’ve seen has been full of praise for the story, for the character development, and for the diversity throughout. This is one I keep meaning to get around to soon, but I know I’m going to love Queens of Geek just as much as everyone else has when I finally do.
“You don’t need to fit yourself into what society tells us a girl should be. Girls can be whoever they want. Whether an ass-kicking, sarcastic, crime-solving FBI agent or a funny, gorgeous, witty beauty queenโor both at the same time.”
What did you think of Queens of Geek? Have you read it yet or is it still on your to-read list? Let me know in the comments and let me know if you took part in this week’s Standalone Sunday as well.
I’m actually getting ready to start reading this one! I can’t wait!

I hope you enjoy Queens of Geek! It’s not my favourite fandom-themed book, but I would agree with the reviews calling it for character development and diversity, because it really does have those two things in spades. Plus, that cover is super cute. โค

Thanks Reg. I hope so too, I’ve seen some incredible reviews for it and at the moment it feels like I’ll be reading more for the diversity than the fandom related storyline. ๐
It sounds incredible and yeah the cover is amazing as well. ๐ โค๏ธ

I’ve been wanting to read this book ever since it frequently popped up on my feed across all my social media accounts following its release! I’ve heard quite a bit about the diversity aspect of it as well as the excellent character development. I hope to get around to this one sometime this year! I hope you manage to read it soon and that it lives up to your expectations ๐

It’s the same for me. Around it’s release I kept seeing loads of recommendations and reviews and I had to add it to my to-read list. At first it was for the fandom elements but then it became about the incredible representation and diversity in the story.
Thanks Azia, I hope so too and I also hope this is one you really love as well. ๐ โค๏ธ

The fandom aspect really appeals to me, too! However, I don’t think I’ve ever really been part of a fandom. I just like things and know stuff about them, but I haven’t really shared my love they way most fangirls do Huh, I might have to make that a goal of mine: Join a fandom, just go all in, and see what it’s like LOL. But first, I’ll read Queens of Geek ๐

I’ve been a part of one or two fandoms, but kind of from the fringes rather than the middle you know?
Yes do it, join a fandom. ๐ I’m sure there’s a bookish one out there someone. Until then reading about them is the next best thing in my opinion. ๐

Yeah, that sounds like me too. There was one fandom I was apart of but not as heavily as others. It was for a manga actually! Tokyo Ghoul. I’ve fallen away from it, but it was fun while it lasted haha. I’ll see what other fandom I can find LOL.

There’s probably plenty out there. I dunno sometimes I see some of the things that happen in fandoms, the arguments and stuff, and just think I’m better off outside of them. ๐

Yeah, I’ve been scared off from joining a few fandoms because of some weird animosity happening both among fans and between fans and the actors or authors themselves. Fandoms can be a pretty scary place, actually LOL

You’ve just gotta find a fandom you can fit in with. One without the animosity and arguments. Not sure one exists but maybe… ๐

Maybe, just maybe….haha XD Let me know if you find one. I might join just to save myself from the toxicity that surrounds most, if not all, really popular fandoms. Gotta look for the ones on the down low, I think LOL. Usually the hidden gems have nicer fans ๐

Well, I’ll let you know, but finding a fandom I can join isn’t too high on my to-do list right now. Got too much blogging to do! ๐
