The Narnia Book Tag

I loved The Narnia Chronicles when I was younger, after the Harry Potter books it was the second series I fell in love with as a child and the second series that got me hooked on reading, so a Narnia tag is just perfect beyond words for me. I was tagged by Diana at Diana Prince Reviews and Sammie at Bookshelves & Biros. Thanks so much both of you for the tag, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

The Narnia Book Tag

Narnia:
A magical world you would like to visit.

Le Cirque des Rêves
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I fell in love with The Night Circus and the world it was set in within the first few pages. It seemed to be a place where magic was real, and I wish more than anything that Le Cirque des Rêves would travel to my town so I could experience it for myself.

The Night Circus

The Magician’s Nephew:
A book you think is underrated.

A Fierce and Subtle Poison by Samantha Mabry

It seems like the majority of magical realism books are underrated, but A Fierce and Subtle Poison is one I haven’t seen anyone talk about. It’s a beautiful story, with wonderful characters set in a stunning country. I think this is a book a lot of people would enjoy if they gave it a chance.

A Fierce and Subtle Poison

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe:
A classic that you love.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

When it comes to Classics I can’t really say I’m a fan of any. The only exception is Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I read this for the first time when I was a child, and alongside Harry Potter it’s one of the defining books of my childhood.

Alice in Wonderland - Cover

The Horse and His Boy:
A book you picked up without knowing what it was about.

Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray

I don’t actually remember reading the blurb before requesting this book on NetGalley. I simply saw the gorgeous cover, saw the name of the author, and saw the fact that it was set in space and requested a copy. I ended up loving this book, so I’m really glad I gave it a try.

Defy the Stars

Prince Caspian:
A sequel that you loved.

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi

The first book was amazing, one of my favourite reads of 2016, so when I saw there was a companion novel I was both excited and nervous. Turns out I didn’t need to be nervous because, if anything, I ended up enjoying A Crown of Wishes even more than The Star-Touched Queen.

a-crown-of-wishes

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader:
A quest you’d like to be a part of.

Any of the ones Percy Jackson went on. I’m a huge fan of Greek mythology so I’d love to experience some of the things Percy did as he, Annabeth and Grover took on Luke and Kronos. Although maybe not The Last Battle, I likely would not have survived that one.

Percy Jackson Series

The Silver Chair:
A book you didn’t expect to love(…As much as you did)

I added the second part of this question on myself because I couldn’t think of any book I picked up that I didn’t expect to love.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I went in expecting to love this book, however I was unprepared for how much I actually did love The Hate U Give. It’s a powerful, moving and emotional book, a beautiful story with beautiful characters, and honestly I can’t fully describe how amazing it was finally reading it myself.

The Hate U Give

The Last Battle:
A perfect ending to a series you love.

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

The wait for this book was a year, and after the cliff-hanger ending to A Gathering of Shadows it was an almost unbearable wait, but it was all worth it when I finally had my hands on A Conjuring of Light. This book was perfect, but then again I expected nothing less from V.E. Schwab.

a-conjuring-of-light

The Pevensies:
A siblinghood or friendship you’d love to be a part of.

Blue and the Raven Boys
The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater

The friendship Blue, Gansey, Ronan, Adam and Noah have has become the yardstick I use to measure all friendships I see in YA novels, simply because it is the best I’ve read. Nothing’s come close yet but then again it’s going to be hard to beat the relationships Maggie Stiefvater wrote.

The Raven Cycle

Eustace Scrubb:
A character who grew on you.

Lia
The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson

In the first book I wasn’t a fan of Lia’s character at all. Granted she had her good points but they were outweighed by the bad; her recklessness and lack of self-preservation. However as the series continued she was given more development and ended up becoming one of my favourite characters.

The Remnant Chronicles

Mr Tumnus:
Your favourite mystical creature.

Dragons.

In my opinion every book could use some dragons in it. They were a brilliant addition to the Harry Potter series when they were introduced in Goblet of Fire, and I love Daenerys’ dragons from the Song of Ice and Fire series. My favourite remains Abraxos from Sarah J Maas’s Throne of Glass series.

Caspian:
A character with regal qualities.

Feyre
A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas

Feyre’s development throughout the series has been brilliant to read, she has gone from an impoverished hunter to the High Lady of the Night Court. Everything she has been through has only made her a stronger character, more confident in herself and her abilities.

A Court of Thorns and Roses Complete Series

The Wardrobe:
Your favourite hideout/place to read.

When I was a child it was actually my wardrobe; it was built into the wall so there was more than enough space for me to sit in there with my book and read. Now I’m older I normally lie in my bed, surrounded by my duvet and loads of pillows, to read.

  1. I just happened to read a review on A Fierce and Subtle Poison!! What a coincidence. I LOVE magical realism so that definitely seems like a book I have to pick up! 🙂 And ooh, I’m glad you loved A Crown of Wishes, haven’t read it yet but I’m super pumped to read it! A Conjuring of Light was SUCH a perfect ending oh my gosh! I love that series so much. Loved your choices for this tag, Beth!

    1. That’s got to be the universes way of telling you you need to pick this book up then! 🙂 Magical realism is a great genre that needs a little more love I think. A Crown of Wishes is incredible, I think it’s another book you should pick up soon Analee! 😀
Yes it really was, the best ending for the very best series. Thanks so much Analee. 🙂 ❤

  2. What a fun post! I think I’m going to have to do this on my own blog. Also, I keep seeing The Night Circus everywhere and haven’t picked it up yet! I think it needs to happen soon…

    1. I’d like to think we’d have a decent chance of surviving if we were on one of Percy Jackson’s quests. I mean, after all, we’d have our own demigod powers which would help a fair bit! 😀
That’s all right, I’m looking forwards to seeing your answers for this one. 🙂 ❤

  3. DUDE YES! A Fierce and Subtle Poison is CRAZY underrated. You are literally the first book blogger I’ve ever seen mention it. It got a lot of shoddy reviews on Goodreads, but I thought it was actually really cool and creepy – perfect rainy day read!

And the bit about having an actual wardrobe for you to read in – that sounds so magical?!!

    1. I’ve seen maybe one other blogger mention A Fierce and Subtle Poison, other than that it seems to be one of those books no one has heard of. Yeah I’ve seen some of the mixed reviews, a shame because in my opinion it’s a pretty amazing story.
It was when I was younger, then it got to the stage where I could no longer fit in my wardrobe reading nook. 🙂

  4. Fantastic answers, Beth! I don’t even know where to start, haha. I agree with you about ACOL, it was such a fantastic ending to the series, even if I was, at first, nervous about it all, I ended up NOT being disappointed 🙂 I would love to be part of the Raven Boys little group as well, I thought that the author wrote about such an amazing friendship, it was great to be part of it for the whole series, but I want more and more ahah 🙂
I’m with you on the classics thing as well – I’m not a fan of classics in general, yet Alice is one of my favorite stories as well 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Marie! 🙂 ❤️ Oh it really was, ACOL was everything I wanted from the ending and more, but when it comes down to it I don’t think it would have been possible for Schwab to disappoint me! 🙂
The friendship between them was incredible, I feel like the Raven Boys are going to be the characters I measure my friendships against! 😀
I guess everyone has that one book of a disliked genre they love. For us it’s Alice in Wonderland! 😀 ❤️

  5. ACOL was an AMAZING end to an AMAZING series! Of course, I’d love to read more and find out more about the world and characters, but other than that, it was so so good. And YAS the quests in PJO sound so awesome! I’d love to be a part of them, but I’d probably be too scared, honestly. XD

I SEE MAGICAL REALISM AND I’M ADDING IT TO MY TBR RIGHT NOW.

    1. God it really was, I’m so excited for the Collectors Edition of ADSOM because I think that has some additional stories from the world in, if I’m remembering correctly. I’d probably be scared as well, but if we were going on the quests we’d likely have demigod powers ourselves and could use them to save our lives, if needed! 🙂
Yes do. AFASP definitely deserves more recognition, it’s a great story. 🙂

  6. Awesome tag Beth! Definitely agree with you on The Night Circus, it’s so atmospheric and I would love to visit and maybe take a vacation as well lol. I still have yet to read A Fierce and Subtle Poison, I wonder how I will feel about that one. Alice Adventures in Wonderland is a great classic! It’s so magical. I need to read THUG and I cannot wait to finish the Shades of Magic series! I have a good feeling that it’s going to end up a favorite ❤

    1. Thanks so much Gretchen. 🙂 Yes, I really want someone to invent a way to visit books for real. I know it can’t happen but if it ever did The Night Circus would be my first pick. A Fierce and Subtle Poison is a good magical realism book, I’d say worth picking up if you enjoy that genre.
THUG is incredible, and so is the rest of the Shades of Magic series, I can’t wait to see what you think of them Gretchen! 😀 ❤

    1. I love Harry Potter and I love Narnia, they were my first fantasy books, thanks to my best friend who happened to have her nose stuck on one of those series at all times. but I also fell in love with Little house on the prairies. I adore the descriptions in all of these books. My love for the world of Narnia only grew when I actually visited the place where the first scenes of the second film adaption was filmed. It was like reaching out to Narnia although well…I was clearly still in this world..lol 🙂

I picked some of my all-time favourite books for this tag (I mean, I try to do that for every tag but you know?) So so so glad to hear you loved them as well! 😀 ❤
Also we so need more dragons in books right?!

  8. I have a vague memory of the first Narnia movie and I think I’ve read the first Narnia book in French, but man… I’m pretty much convinced that I’m missing out on one of the most popular book series out there. I definitely hope I’ll be able to read the books some day. Great answers for these prompts. Got to agree with the adventure one and Rick Riordan’s books. Even if I haven’t read them, based on your review and what I know it’s about, that’s definitely an adventure I’d want to be on too!!! 😀

    1. It’s definitely a popular series, probably in line with Harry Potter though it doesn’t have quite the same following. I read the books as a child, and saw the movies as they were released, so I have a lot of fond memories of the series.
Thanks so much Lashaan, yeah when it comes to adventures Rick Riordan’s books have the ultimate ones. If I had a choice those are the adventures I’d want to take part in. 😀

  9. Thanks Beth for tagging me!! It looks like another fun one ❤

A Fierce and Subtle Poison by Samantha Mabry looks so good! I went and added it right off. I just finished A Court of Thorns and Roses, Feyre certainly fits in their world now, lol!! And I love the boys from the Raven Cycle!! And I have The Night Circus on my shelf to read… (I get all the circus / carnival ones mixed up so I really only know the cover – the shhhaaammeeee)

    1. That’s all right, and yeah I had fun with this tag so I hope you do as well Dani! ❤
It's a great book, part of the magical realism genre so it doesn't have as much recognition as say fantasy or contemporary does but it's a great story which deserves more praise. Feyre has some incredible character development throughout the series, and the Raven Boys are pretty much my favourite friendship group.
Oh in that case I hope you love The Night Circus, as long as you enjoy the book I don't think it matters how you identify it you know? 😀

  10. Oh the Night Circus is DEFINITELY a world I would love to go to. I can just imagine all of the sights and smells now…it would be so amazing and magical!!! I love a Conjuring of Light…I really need to re-read that series again because I devoured it waaay to quickly the first time. Awesome answers! And there are a few books on here I will have to add to my TBR list 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. God it would be amazing. If someone develops a way to let us travel into books then The Night Circus would be the very first one I would travel to. Without a doubt. 🙂
It’s such an epic series isn’t it? I want to re-read all the books again, just so I can go through the series from start to finish with no breaks. I read the books as they were released so now I need to go back and re-read them all at once.
Thanks so much, any you add to your TBR I hope you really enjoy! 😀

  11. Can I just say YES, YES, & YES! Ugh I agree with so many of these! THUG was so good; I’m the same I knew I was going to love it, but boy did I love it. I’m so glad that I bought it & didn’t borrow it from the library. I’d love to be apart of the Raven Boys crew, wouldn’t that be so awesome! 😀 And I actually finished reading the Percy Jackson series; SO good!

    1. That’s good to hear! 😀 THUG was amazing, part of me wondered how it could be better than I thought it would be but somehow it just was. I brought a copy of that book and yeah I’m glad I did. 🙂
The Raven Boys are amazing characters, so yeah that would be awesome. Oh I’m go glad to hear you loved the Percy Jackson books Meghan, they’re just brilliant aren’t they? 😀 ❤
