Waiting on Wednesday: Obsidio

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event which aims to shine a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Release Date: March 13th 2018

Obsidio

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they’ll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady’s cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza’s ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys – an old flame from Asha’s past – reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.

With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heroes will fall, and hearts will be broken.

Obsidio is one of my most anticipated releases of 2018. After reading Illuminae and Gemina I cannot wait to see how the series ends, and even without reading Obsidio I know it’s going to be just as fast paced, just as addictive, and just as beautiful both inside and out.

The first six pages were revealed alongside the cover, I’ve read them more than once already and they’ve left me hungry for more of this book. Unfortunately there is still a really long wait until Obsidio’s release date, but I know this is going to be a book that’s worth the wait, and a book that’s going to be a top read of 2018 for me as well.

What do you think of Obsidio? Is it a must on your to-read list, or are there any other books you can’t wait for the release date of? Let me know in the comments and let me know if you took part in this week’s Waiting on Wednesday as well.

  1. This is such a great choice Beth! I can’t wait to read that one either, even though I feel a bit nervous about it. Illuminae was intense, and Gemina was even more intense for me…I’m still not sure if this is my kind of book but somehow I’m feeling hooked and have to know what happens next, haha 🙂

    1. Thanks Marie. 🙂 Yeah the second I saw the cover and blurb had been released on Goodreads I was desperate to feature Obsidio. There are some series where I don’t really worry about whether the last book will be able to live up to the series so far, some authors I know couldn’t possibly let me down. V.E. Schwab is one, apparently Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff are two more! 🙂 ❤️

  2. Ahhh everyone constantly gushes about this series! I MUST read the books sometime and see for myself what the hype is all about haha. Obsidio has such a gorgeous cover! I hope it lives up to the hype for you, when it’s released. ❤

    1. Oh definitely definitely pick it up when you get a chance Sophie. The Illuminae Files is one of my favourite sci-fi books and the format the stories are told in is beyond gorgeous. Ha, yeah I reckon not having to wait for the last book to be released will be a bonus if you pick them up once Obsidio is released. 😀

  3. YESSSS, I’m so so SO excited for Obsidio, especially having read the first two books just last month! And then with the cover reveal and excerpt and GAH! This series is honestly SO amazing — so plot twist-y and clever and damaging and I really don’t know HOW they do it! 😍

    1. Oh god same here. I read Gemina when it was first released and ever since then this book has been in the back of my mind. The cover reveal has just made me more excited, simply because of how gorgeous it actually is.
Neither do I, but I’m really glad they do! 😀 ❤

  4. I’m so excited for this one!! I didn’t really love Illuminae, but I thought Gemina was SO MUCH better, and now I can’t wait to see what they do with Obsidio!!

    1. I feel you may be a little in denial about your excitement levels for Obsidio. 😀 I have no idea how I’m going to survive the wait until March but I know it will be worth it when I have this book in my hands.
God yes, and you know it will be even more gorgeous both in the paperback edition and inside as well! 😀
