Waiting on Wednesday: All the Wind in the World

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event which aims to shine a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.

All the Wind in the World by Samantha Mabry
Release Date: October 10th 2017

All the Wind in the World

Sarah Jacqueline Crow and James Holt work in the vast maguey fields that span the bone-dry Southwest, a thirsty, infinite land that is both seductive and fearsome. In this rough, transient landscape, Sarah Jac and James have fallen in love. They’re tough and brave, and they have big dreams. Soon they will save up enough money to go east. But until then, they keep their heads down, their muscles tensed, and above all, their love secret.

When a horrible accident forces Sarah Jac and James to start over on a new, possibly cursed ranch called the Real Marvelous, the delicate balance they’ve found begins to give way. And James and Sarah Jac will have to pay a frighteningly high price for their love.

Samantha Mabry’s debut book, A Fierce and Subtle Poison, was a brilliant magical realism read, and one that is still really underappreciated. Magical realism is a growing genre, and one that I’m still discovering, so I’m always on the lookout for more books I can pick up.

All the Wind in the World sounds like a beautiful and enchanting story, the few pre-release reviews there already are are all positive, and if it’s anything likeΒ Samantha Mabry’sΒ first book I’m sure it will be another brilliant addition to the magical realism genre.

What do you think of All the Wind in the World? Is it a must on your to-read list, or are there any other books you can’t wait for the release date of? Let me know in the comments and let me know if you took part in this week’s Waiting on Wednesday as well.

  1. I haven’t heard about this book until now, but it sounds interesting!! πŸ™‚ Though I’m not that keen on the romance part, as it seems to be the main focus of the story and I prefer when it isn’t. The cover is gorgeous, I love all the colours! Great pick Beth! πŸ˜€

    1. It really does, and actually I don’t really mind the romance being the centre of the story. The only way that would be a possibility would be if it turned into insta-love or a love triangle. :/
I’m sure this book won’t do that though, and I do have high-ish hopes for this one. I hope the story is as good as the cover is! Thanks Anna. πŸ˜€ ❀

  2. I haven’t heard of this one but it sounds so LOVELY!! I actually really like that cover, too. I haven’t read any YA magical realism books just yet but I’ve put together a little list of the ones you’ve mentioned! Thanks for introducing me to this one, as well. I’ll add it to my list haha. I really hope it lives up to your expectations once you manage to get your hands on it! πŸ˜€

    1. It really does doesn’t it? The cover is gorgeous which first caught my eye but then again the cover for Samantha Mabry’s first book was gorgeous as well.
Oh Azia you really need to get started on some magical realism reads. There are some brilliant ones out there and all the ones I’ve read have been favourite reads of mine.
Thanks Azia, I hope you enjoy this one as well if you pick it up one day. πŸ™‚

      1. Mabry has some really beautiful book covers! I’d buy her books just to have them on my shelves LOL
I just saw When the Moon Was Ours at my library! I’ll try to pick it up once I’m done with my ARCs and current reads πŸ˜€
Thank you! Hope you do, too! ❀

    1. That’s all right. πŸ˜€ It does sound really good doesn’t it, I’m a massive fan of the magical realism genre and a fan of Samantha Mabry’s writing so I think this will be a pretty amazing book. It definitely sounds like all of that for me, and like a book for me too! πŸ™‚ ❀️

  4. This book sounds ~so~ atmospheric and magical. I was lucky enough to score an ARC, and I can’t wait to get to it! I’m a little hesitant though because magical realism isn’t usually my thing? What can I say? I’m a bit stubborn – I like my feet planted firmly in either reality or fantasy. πŸ˜› I need to fix that, haha. Great post, Beth!

    1. It really does, and wow that’s great. I hope you really enjoy it Aimal, even if magical realism isn’t always your thing. I’m a massive fan of the genre and anything I can get my hands on I will eagerly read. πŸ™‚ Still I can see how it isn’t a genre for everyone.
      Thanks so much! πŸ˜€

    1. It’s definitely one of my favourites as well, I can’t get enough of it and all the books I’ve read so far have been beyond amazing! Ha, that’s my first requirement too, and here’s hoping the book itself is as good as the cover is right? πŸ˜€

  5. I am cover lusting over this one! I have yet to read A Fierce and Subtle Poison, I do remember your rave review on that book a few weeks back. I can only imagine how excited you are for her to release another book. All The Wind sounds awesome and a bit mysterious. I hope it’s a winner for you!

    1. Same here, it’s a gorgeous cover and hopefully the story itself will be just as wonderful as the cover is. Oh in that case I hope you manage to get around to A Fierce and Subtle Poison soon Gretchen, if you plan to read it that is. Yes I am definitely excited for another release from this author. I can’t wait.
      Thanks! πŸ™‚ ❀️

  6. Magical realism!!! I’ve been getting into the genre ever since you gave me some amazing recs that were similar to Bone Gap! ❀ This book sounds really intriguing and while I'm not TOO fond that the romance seems to be the spotlight, I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for it! πŸ™‚

    1. Ohh, I’m glad you’ve gotten into the genre May. It’s probably not for everyone but magical realism is quickly becoming a favourite of mine and it started with Bone Gap for me too! πŸ™‚ ❀️
I think it’ll be an interesting change from her first book where the romance wasn’t the spotlight, it sounds good and hopefully it’ll be a release we both enjoy! πŸ˜€
