Books that Made Me Want to Travel

Tomorrow I am going to be launching a new feature on my blog.

It’s very exciting; both because I haven’t ever done anything like this before and because it’s something I can’t wait to share with you all, but more on my new feature at the bottom of this post. Today is more of an introduction to kick things off. You may be able to guess a little about what my new feature will be around based on the title of this post.

After reading, travelling is one of my main loves. I want to see the whole world and I won’t let anything stand in my way. I’ve already been to some amazing countries, with even more on my must-travel-to list, and a lot of my travel destinations have been inspired by books. Reading inspires me to do a lot and when I read about all these places books have been set, so far away from my own home, I can’t help but want to see them for myself.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Laini Taylor has this magical way of writing that makes it seem like the normal worlds and cities her books are set in are filled with magic. The first time I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone I fell in love with her description of Prague, so I jumped at the change to go there myself.

It’s also the reason her other books are on my list as well;

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor, set in Morocco

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor, set in Rome (Vatican City)

Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Books with road trips are a weakness of mine, and Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour is the best of the best. Amy and Roger travel to so many different states, and the adventures they have and the sights they see are a major part of the story. This book makes me want to go on my own American road trip.

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

India is a place on my must-travel-to list, but until I read The Star-Touched Queen I can’t say it was near the top. Roshani Chokshi’s way of writing reminds me of Laini Taylor’s in that she wrote a world full of magic, and the second I finished The Star-Touched Queen I knew I had to experience to country for myself.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

With a setting inspired by Japan and a story inspired in small ways by Mulan, written by Renee Ahdieh, I was always going to love Flame in the Mist. It’s a beautiful book and like with The Star-Touched Queen after finishing it I moved Japan higher on my must-travel-to list.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

I have always wanted to visit Greece, always, but for some reason I’ve never gone and I can’t even say I have plans to go there in the near future. One day I will but until then I’ll have to settle for reading books like the Percy Jackson series which retell Greek myths and legend and fill me with wanderlust.

These last three books have one thing in common, well two if you count the fact that I’ve read all three as something they have in common, and that’s where they’re set;

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

Russia has been a place I’ve wanted to visit for a long time, ever since I saw the movie Anastasia as a child, but reading these books that are either set in Russia or a world inspired by Russia has only made me more determined to go there one day myself. Hopefully one day soon as me and my sister a tentatively planning our 2018 trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg.

It’s been a lot of fun for me to plan and prepare this new feature, so I hope you all enjoy reading it. I still have another new feature under wraps for later this month, one I’ve been planning for months and that I was supposed to launch last month so I really can’t wait to share it with you.
