The Stationery Book Tag

Like with how gorgeous covers can make me pick up certain books, gorgeous stationery is a serious weakness of mine. I’m one of those people who have shelves full of blank notebooks I’ve brought because they were just too pretty to resist. I was tagged by Sammie at Bookshelves and Biros. Thanks so much for the tag Sammie, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Favourite middle grade or children’s book.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

I didn’t pick up these books when I was a child but at the moment, asides from Harry Potter which is an obvious answer, the Percy Jackson series is a current favourite of mine. I sped through the first series last year, and finished the second series even quicker this year.

Pens:
A basic staple for any reader.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

I don’t think there can be such a thing as a basic staple given all readers have unique tastes in books, but Fangirl is a book I think will appeal to most readers. It’s a brilliant contemporary book and if you pick up the companion book Rowell wrote, Carry On, you’ll get the fantasy aspect as well.

What books do you own multiple copies of?

The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon

Granted I own multiple copies of a few series now, but The Bone Season is an ongoing series I will continue buying multiple copies of. As long as they release the original covers, like they did with the special edition of The Song Rising, I’ll buy them alongside the new cover designs.

Markers:
A book with a beautiful cover.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

There are so so many books out there with gorgeous covers, and I should know because whenever I see one I can’t help but want to buy the book. However the UK edition of Strange the Dreamer is in a league of its own, and as gorgeous as the cover is the story inside is just as amazing.

Glue:
Two characters that work well together even if they aren’t together.

Juliette and Kenji
Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi

I loved Juliette and Kenji’s friendship in this series, they worked so well together and leant on one another when they need emotional support. This is a series that proves you can have male and female character remain friends with no unresolved romantic feelings between them.

Scissors:
What book would you like to destroy?

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Honestly I don’t think I’d actually want to destroy a book, no matter how bad it is. However in this case the ending for Allegiant annoyed me so much (and if you’ve read this book you’ll know what I’m talking about) that I’d like to destroy this copy and get a new story written with a different ending.

Art Kit:
What complete series do you own?

Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Pretty much all the series I own are complete but at the moment my favourite, and most prized complete series collection, is the Shades of Magic books which came all the way from the US because I loved the series and the covers so much.

Plus finally having the complete series means the wait for A Conjuring of Light is over, and that was the book at the top of my most anticipated reads list this year.

Bonus:
Show us your desk/stationery that you own for each question.

I don’t actually have a desk of my own, and the family one we have is in the coldest and darkest corner of the house so none of us use that one either. Instead I’ve included a photo of my stationery, which sits on top of one of the (many) bookshelves I currently have in my room.

  1. I love the US cover of Strange the Dreamer but the UK version is a whole other level of pretty. I desperately need a copy of it! The design and color looks so striking. I never read Allegiant but I know how it ends because someone spoiled it for me. I can’t believe it really ends like that LOL. Not right. And I love that pencil set. Looks like a dream come true to have haha. Great post, Beth 😀

    1. I really do think both versions of the Strange the Dreamer cover are gorgeous. But because the UK one is the one I own, and it has the illustrations and blue pages, I just prefer it over the US one. 🙂
Oh that’s a shame someone spoiled it for you, but if you haven’t read it yet I can’t say you’re missing much at all. Yeah not a great ending in my opinion. 🙂
      Ha, thanks Azia! 😀 ❤

      1. Agreed, both covers are gorgeous, but I’m actually leaning toward the UK version. I like that color blue a bit more than the US version haha. Also, the blue pages sounds incredible. And I’ve already decided not to read Divergent. I don’t want to read for that ending haha. Not worth it.
        :D!

      2. That’s the reason I lean towards the UK edition as well, that and the illustrations inside and the fact that it’s the edition I own. I have to love it more! 😀
Yeah I definitely can’t say I’d recommend that series, not knowing how it ends myself. 🙂

  2. Thanks for the tag 🙂 yes to Allegiant!!! I was so miffed when I read that and I genuinely nearly threw the book across the room in a rage … actually pretty sure I read it on my phone – so that would have been even worse! And I also love Juliette and Kenji’s character and relationship dynamic! I love the fact that they are so close without them being romantically involved. And the bone season 😍😍😍 I’m waiting for the hardcover of book 4 to go on pre order so I can nab a copy! 😂

    1. That’s all right! 😀 Oh wow, I don’t think I’ve ever nearly thrown a book across the room before, then again I read on my Kindle so it would do a lot more damage throwing that than it would a book. 🙂
Yes that is definitely a plus for me, I love seeing close friendships like Juliette has with Kenji and nothing bugs me more than when unrequited romantic feelings get in the way. Ha, I’m the same, I feel like we may have a bit of a wait though. 🙂

      1. I just finished The anime Order and it was SO GOOD!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 and it would be more expensive 😂😂 which is one of the reasons I kept my phone secured in my hand … well… I may have thrown it on the bed, but soft landing! 🙂 and this is so true! I just liked the fact that they enjoyed each other’s company without it ever being remotely romantic! 🙂

      2. Great to hear, I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for your review in that case. Yeah I’m too attached to my Kindle to risk it in a fit of bookish rage! 😀 Oh my phone gets thrown on my bed a lot, and dropped on the floor more often. 🙂

  3. AH! I love this tag thank you so much for tagging me! I’m with you on ADSOM for the art kit, those covers are stunning. Also I laughed so much at your answer for scissors, to be honest I’d destroy Allegiant too! It wasn’t great. Also YES to Strange for markers, that cover is just gorgeous. Think I might try and get a copy at YALC. Thanks again for the tag!

    1. That’s all right, I’ll be looking forwards to seeing your answers for this one Kate. Yeah Shades of Magic has beautiful covers, and even though I prefer the US editions I like the UK ones too. Nope, in terms of finales Allegiant is one of the most disappointing ones on my bookshelves.
Oh definitely try and get a copy at YALC, it’s a wonderful book and beyond gorgeous as well, inside and out.
      That’s all right! 🙂 ❤

    1. It really does, it’s probably the most gorgeous book on my shelves at the moment right now. 😀 Oh that is a shame, but I know it will be worth the wait when you do manage to get around to it Meggy. Plus it’s not the kind of book you wanna have to rush or squeeze in. 🙂

  4. Oh Juliette and Kenji are such a good choice, I loved their friendship so, so much. I haven’t read Fangirl yet – so many books to read, ahah – but I definitely will someday, it sounds like the kind of book I should not miss 🙂
Great answers for this tag, Beth! 🙂

    1. Thanks Marie, and yes there is so much to love about their friendship. For me one of the main things is that the author didn’t try and give them romantic feelings for one another. 🙂
Ha, I know that feeling, but I really hope you enjoy Fangirl Marie (I’m like 99% sure you will though). I imagine it’ll be worth the wait when you do get around to it. 😀
      Thanks! 🙂 ❤️

    1. Oh The Bone Season is one series I highly highly recommend, it’s an all-time favourite of mine. 🙂 Definitely start it as soon as possible because I don’t think you’ll be disappointed Casey so many people love it and I reckon you will as well. Thanks! 😀 ❤️

      1. I love audios but it definitely depends on the book, with magic classes and complex world building I prefer the physical, rereading it would be good on audio but not for a first read 🙂

      2. That’s what I started with! I reread six of crows and another, the good thing about it is you can jut return the book if it’s not working for you. I’ve returned a couple just because they don’t engage me enough and I know I’ll get more from the physical, but it’s not for everyone 😊

  5. Awesome answers Beth! Strange the Dreamer and now Because You Love to Hate Me Re the most beautiful covers I own 😍 I actually reallllllly LOVE the U.K. Covers of the Darker Shade of Magic trilogy but don’t own them just yet, one day 😉i had a feeling you’d have multiple editions of the Bone Season books though 😂💙📚💙

    1. Thanks so much Lilly. I still need to buy Because You Love to Hate Me (going to a bookshop tomorrow to pick up a copy) but I’m not as much of a fan of the UK cover as I am the US one, and Strange the Dreamer is a clear winner for me! 😀
I do really like the UK covers for the Shades of Magic books, I just think the US ones are better. Story of my life at the moment it seems. 🙂 Ahh there are a few series I own multiple editions of, if they’re a favourite of mine I just can’t help it! 🙂 ❤️

  6. Yes PJO is definitely my favorite MG series! It is so so good. ❤ And while I was very miserable about Allegiant's ending… I feel like it was the right one??? I personally like the US cover of Strange the Dreamer better than the UK's, but both are still gorgeous! (Something about the blue and gold appeals to me though. XD) And I really must read Fangirl!

    1. It’s amazing, but for me it’s probably tied with Harry Potter for my favourite MG series. I couldn’t choose between the two! 🙂 I kind of see what you mean, I just think after all Tris survive to have her killed in that way seemed a little anticlimactic, or something like that.
Both covers are gorgeous, but I own the UK one so it’s kind of my favourite by default. 🙂 And yes definitely read Fangirl when you get a chance. It’s a great book May! 🙂 ❤️

  7. What a cute tag! I love your pencil holder it’s so cute! 😀 I have yet to finish the Percy Jackson series… still waiting for the last book from the library. That’s the only one that I’ve had to wait for, I’m just itching to read it!

    1. Thanks so much Meghan. I made it when I was in primary school and it’s been my pencil pot ever since! 😀 Oh in that case I really hope you manage to get your hands on the last book soon. I loved the Percy Jackson series and I imagine waiting for the last book has got to be torture right?! I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait when you finally get it though. 🙂

    1. Yeah as far as disappointing finales go Allegiant is probably number one for me. There was just so much I wanted to see happen that I was really disappointed by what actually ended up happening.
I haven’t read all of Rainbow Rowell’s books but I really loved the ones by her I have gotten to. 😀

    1. Funny story the main reason I read Fangirl was because I was hearing amazing things about Carry On, and I couldn’t really start it without reading Fangirl first (I saw them as companion novels to one another.)
Carry On is really good, I think even if you weren’t a fan of the fan fiction part of Fangirl I’d still recommend it because the full book of Carry On doesn’t read like the fan fiction parts of Fangirl did. 🙂
