The Candy Book Tag

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love taking part in food tags. They always make me so hungry and this one was no exception. I almost needed a pile of candy next to me to snack on as I answered these questions. I was tagged by Michelle at Book Adventures. Thanks so much for the tag Michelle, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Apples:
Ah. Healthy food. It is deep, meaningful, and probably won a lot of awards but, um, it really isn’t your thing.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

I’m not sure whether this book is deep and meaningful, or if it’s won a lot of awards, but The Girl on the Train is a book that everyone seems to be raving about. People I know who aren’t big readers have started recommending it to me, and while part of me feels like I should pick it up at the moment it’s just not something I’m interested in.

Milk Chocolate:
This is a book you’d recommend to absolutely EVERYONE.

Either the Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab…

…Or The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon

These two series are pretty much my go-to book recommendations, and every time they come up in conversation I’m always rushing in to recommend them. The Shades of Magic series has ended with A Conjuring of Light, and what an ending it was, but there are still four more books of The Bone Season series to be released that I am eagerly waiting for.

Why do these exist??

The Death Cure by James Dashner and Allegiant by Veronica Roth

I have never been more frustrated by the way a series ended than I was with these two books. I really enjoyed The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials, and liked Divergent and Insurgent well enough, but the last book of both series ended up ruining it all for me. If you’ve read either of these two you know what I’m talking about, it’s likely you feel the same way.

Awww this novel had the best romance.

Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

It’s rare that I have bookish OTPs, but Annabelle and Owen from Just Listen were the first and still the best in my opinion. This was the first YA contemporary I read and the book that kick started my love for the genre, although that love faded a little in the bright light of the fantasy genre until I started blogging, and my love for Sarah Dessen.

Eek! You made sure to check under your bed every night for a week after reading this scary one.

Slasher Girls & Monster Boys by April Genevieve Tucholke (Editor)

Scary stories aren’t normally my thing. I can be a massive wimp when it comes to the horror genre and I’ll be the first to admit it, but I saw some great reviews for Slasher Girls & Monster Boys and thought, ‘why not?’. The story that creeped me out the most was the Alice in Wonderland influenced one by Carrie Ryan but all were really well written, and quite scary too.

Jumbo Lollipop:
This took you forever to get through, but hey! You did it!

Prodigy by Marie Lu

Back when I first started this series in 2014 I was in the middle of a massive reading slump, so I got through about 60% before giving up and putting Prodigy back on my to-read list. Well I finally got back into this series and today, three years after I started it, I finally finished Prodigy. So far the series is just as amazing as I remembered, and just as amazing as everyone said it was.

Cotton Candy:
Admit it, you loved this when you were younger (you probably still do). Think children’s or MG fiction.

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

Asides from Harry Potter (which is an obvious choice for this question) A Series of Unfortunate Events was one of the first series I read when I was younger that kick started my love of reading. I loved Lemony Snicket’s writing style and I was always eager to get started on another tale of the Baudelaire orphans, and discover how they would outwit Count Olaf this time around.
