Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning to Start but Haven’t Yet.
No matter how hard I try, or how many books I read, I can never seem to make a dent in my TBR list. So it’s no surprise there are tons of series I’ve yet to get around to, even more than the ten I featured for this week’s theme. Hopefully, at the very least, I’ll be able to start these series soon because they’re all ones I want to read before this year is up.
Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning to Start but Haven’t Yet
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
I haven’t really heard much about this series, at least not in terms of reviews, so I really have no idea whether it’s widely regarded as a good trilogy or a bad one. However I need to add more sci-fi books to my to-read list, and the blurb for the first book was certainly interesting enough to grab my attention.
The Spinster Club by Holly Bourne
This was a series I picked up in preparation for YALC last year, however unlike Across the Universe this is a series I’ve heard plenty of beyond amazing things about. Recently I’ve been in a little bit of a contemporary slump but hopefully I’ll be coming out of that soon and I can get started on this trilogy soon.
Unwind Dystology by Neal Shusterman
Before Scythe was released I wasn’t aware of what books Neal Shusterman was known for, and though I’d seen the Unwind Dystology around I never really check it out. That was apparently a big mistake on my part because the second I read the blurb for the first book I knew I just had to read the series.
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
I’ve seen Delirium loads of times in my local Waterstones, but was never really interested enough to pick it up and check out the blurb. Another mistake on my part because since blogging I’ve heard some amazing things about Lauren Oliver and I loved her latest release, Replica, so of course I had to add her other books to my to-read list.
Summoner by Taran Matharu
While at YALC last year I sat in one of Taran Matharu’s panels, and after hearing him describe his series I was hooked and went, there and then, to buy his first and second book. I still haven’t read them, or the third which has now been released but as Matharu is going to be at YALC again this year I have until the end of July to get through the trilogy.
The Australia Trilogy by James Smythe
This was another series I picked up at YALC, hooked just from the way the author described his book. The Australia trilogy is another sci-fi series, again sorely needed on my to-read list, and although I’m not sure whether James Smythe is going to be at YALC again this year I’d like to have finished his series by then as well.
Dune by Frank Herbert
Not only is this another sci-fi series on my to-read list, but Dune is also a book I picked up at YALC this year and have yet to get around to. I really need to sort out my YALC to-read list because it seems like most of the books I discovered there I’ve yet to get around to.
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
This series was recommended to me by one of my best friends after she read the first book and fell in love with the story. This is someone who doesn’t normally recommend books, in fact the last book she recommended was Red Rising, so I know The 5th Wave is likely going to be amazing.
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
While I am slowly making my way through Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter books, The Infernal Devices has been a series on my to-read list since before the first book in the trilogy was even released. So a very long time now. I’ve heard nothing but great things about The Infernal Devices books so I really can’t wait to get started on them.
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
Sometimes when you read a blurb or see a review you find yourself wondering whether a book has been written solely with you in mind; that’s how well it fits your reading preferences. Stalking Jack the Ripper is that book for me. I need to get around to this series because it has so much I love but rarely see in books.
So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know what some of the series you’ve been meaning to start but haven’t yet are.
Fantastic list, Beth! I’ve started Across the Universe and Delirium but I don’t intend to finish either of them. They didn’t really hold my attention, but hopefully the same is not for you! I’d love to see what you think of them once you begin. I’m determined to start the Summoner series, as well! Once I read the blurb a few months ago, I was hooked. They sound so interesting! I liked the 5th Wave trilogy up until the third book (which was a disaster to me). I really hope you enjoy the series though. Stalking Jack the Ripper was fantastic. Just the right mix of gore and mystery I thought haha. And the Infernal Devices is BRILLIANT. I’m sure you’ll love them. Really looking forward to your reviews on those! 😀

Thanks so much Azia! 🙂 That’s a shame about Across the Universe and Delirium, both are series I’ve had on my to-read list for a little while now and I’m still interested enough in the blurbs to keep them on my TBR list so hopefully I’ll enjoy them at least a little.
Yeah the Summoner series sounds amazing, I’m not sure why I haven’t started it yet but I really need to get around to it soon. Oh there have been series I really enjoyed until the last book let it down, so I get what you mean when it comes to The 5th Wave.
You’re making me even more excited to get around to Stalking Jack the Ripper than I was before, same with TID as well actually! 😀 ❤

Oooh yes so many of these are on my TBR as well!! I’ve been meaning to read the Unwind dystology and the Across the Universe series. OH but The Infernal Devices series are AMAZING, oh my gosh I am so excited for you to read those books!! ❤❤ So many books, not enough time! 😳🙈

In that case I hope you manage to get around to these books soon Analee, and I hope you really enjoy them as well. 🙂 I’ve heard that about TID from so many people now, my expectations are sky high and I can’t wait to start it.
Ha, that’s pretty much my motto at the moment! 😀 ❤

Unwind was such a good book! It was very dark but in the best way possible. I read it a few years ago and remember really loving it. I haven’t continued the series though, I have no idea why. Though I’m also not that bothered by it, as I have a feeling that the first book can work as a standalone as well. 😀 I may continue it in the future, we shall see.
I’m very exited for you to read The Infernal Devices, after all that’s one of my favourite trilogies ever! 🙂 I enjoyed those books a lot more than The Mortal Instruments (though I have only read the first two in that series). Great list Beth! ❤ 😀

I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about Unwind actually, and about Neal Shusterman in general. Hopefully I’ll be able to get around to it soon but that’s interesting about feeling the first book could work as a standalone, I vaguely recall someone else saying something like that about Unwind.
I feel like after posting this I need to try and get around to it soon! Honestly it probably will be soon, maybe August time, possibly September at the latest depending on my to-read list for those months.
Thanks so much Anna! 😀 ❤

I’ve actually read Across the Universe and rather liked it, though upon further reflection it’s (personally) nothing super special and can be quite predictable. Still, I think it’s quite a fast-paced, interesting sci-fi series – one that you’d likely enjoy if you don’t look at it too closely, if that makes sense. 😂
I’m probably not the best at judging sci-fi, though – my standards are I think relatively low for anything to do with alien invasions and space travel as I just have a weakness for them. I also kind of enjoyed The Fifth Wave, though I didn’t continue on with the series.
I’m also really curious about Holly Bourne’s The Spinster Club series! The books just look super fun and perhaps something that can help me feel more… ah, interested, haha.

Yeah I’ve been hearing things like that about Across the Universe since posting this, but as long as it’s an overall enjoyable read I’ll still hopefully try and get around to it soon, and hopefully I’ll enjoy it as well. I guess not every book can be completely and breathtakingly amazing.
I haven’t read much sci-fi so my standards are probably low for the genre too. I’m generally happy with anything set in space. 🙂 Oh do you think you’ll carry on the series one day or is it a case of not being interested at the moment?
I’ve heard some good things about Holly Bourne, and her Spinster Club series. It does look like a lot of fun and if you decide to pick it up I hope you enjoy it Reg! 😀 ❤

Yeees, exactly! I liked the concept enough to enjoy the story, and though there was definitely some places where I needed to suspend disbelief, overall that series was enjoyable for me.
As for the Fifth Wave, I’m 100% sure I won’t be continuing with it. It’s just been too long since I read the first book and my interest has totally waned, haha. Never say never, I suppose, but I’ve got no real plans on ever doing it. 😛

Hmm, I’ll have to give it a go and see what I think then. It sounds like it will be enjoyable and in the end that’s what I look for in books.
Oh that’s a shame I guess, but if you’re not interested then I guess no point picking up a series you don’t want to read. If you ever do go back to it I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

Yes to basically all of these! I have had the unwind dystology on my TBR for a while now and I have heard some amazing things! So I clearly need to pick them up! Same goes for Delirium! The summoner series was a more recent find, but one I still need to get to! I’m working my way through Clare’s books and picked up City of Glass last night! The TID series is going to come after that 🙂 Also Stalking Jack the Ripper! I really really really need to get to that! I absolutely love the cover and I have heard some amazing things and it was an anticipated release of mine before it came out, I just haven’t gotten a copy yet! :-O

I’m hoping to get around to TID soon, and oh that’s great news, I really hope you enjoy City of Glass.
It’s definitely a gorgeous cover, and I have high hopes the story itself will be just as amazing. I need to get around to buying a copy as well so you’re not the only one there! 😀

BETH!!!! I’m SO going to scream at you daily now until you pick up the Delirium series ahha. It’s one of my favorite series of ALL times and if you liked Replica, I think you’d love this one as well. I am so impatient for you to read it! ❤ ❤
(Also, sorry. I was definitely not screaming here. just, mostly excited about it all ahah)

It may make me pick up the series faster! 🙂 I’ve added it to my summer TBR list so sometime July August maybe. After the things people have been saying in the comments both the Delirium series and TID have shot up my TBR list. 🙂
I definitely liked Replica, and I have some high hopes for Delirium now as well! 😀
Ha, that’s all right, I get excited about books like this all the time. ❤

I saw Delirium and almost melted because that is absolutely one of my all time favorite series by Lauren Oliver. Ugh, I just find it so amazing and since Oliver is a New Yorker, she really hits the setting spot on. I really hope you like that one.
The Infernal Devices is another trilogy that’s just so worthy to be read. I marathoned that one I think all in one week. I loved it more than the first three in the TMI series. The characters, the plot, the steampunk victorian elements…omg amazing!!! I cannot wait to hear what you think about this trilogy in particular.
Stalking Jack the Ripper is also on my list! I am surprised that I missed that in my own TTT lol. The first book and second one that is now coming out sound right up my alley like you! I hope we both enjoy this one. I have heard amazing things for Across the Universe and Uniwind Dystology. Good luck to you and I hope you get to all of them one day! I think we all want to make huge dents on our TBRs lol.

Well I loved her Replica book so I have high hopes for Delirium, and hearing how much you loved it as well is just making me even more excited to finally get around to it.
TID is one I’ve have pretty much been hearing non-stop praise for. Honestly at the moment my expectations are sky high for these books and I’m getting more and more excited to get around to them.
I may try and read Stalking Jack the Ripper around the same time the second book is released, that way I can binge read both books because I feel like it’s a series I’m guaranteed to love! I hope you enjoy this one as well Gretchen. 🙂
Thanks, I feel like I’m going to need all the luck I can get to tackle my TBR list, but then again I feel like we’re all in the same boat when it comes to this issue. 🙂 ❤

I seriously cannot wait for you to get to Delirium lol! I am happy you loved Replica because I’m sure you will like Delirium too!
TID is definitely worth the hype! I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. I also plan on reading Stalking Jack the Ripper before the second book as well, because just like you, binging!!!
And we are definitely on the same boat Beth, the never ending boat of loving books and adding more fantastic books in the endless ocean of TBR ❤

It’s a recent add to my to-read list mainly because I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Neal Shusterman’s books. Oh that’s a shame about Across the Universe but at least you enjoyed it somewhat. Hopefully the rest of the series will be a little better for you! 🙂

Oh man. You make me wish I lived in London– YALC sounds *awesome*!
Across the Universe wasn’t really my jam, honestly. But, I was looking for something a bit more… relatable, I guess. It just didn’t give me what I was looking for. But so many people I know love it!
I haven read Dune yet, either! It intimidates me. But, Jules Verne’s Extraordinary Adventures is on my TTT today– also intimidating. 😋

Oh that’s a shame, but I don’t mind unrelatable books, I read a lot of fantasy so that comes as a given I guess. I’ve heard plenty of good things about it yeah.

I’m in the process of re-reading Clare’s works because it was a long long time ago that I read her first three books. I have the first three read and will be moving onto TID shortly and I think it will help. Kind of refreshes your mind on the characters and what happens and everything.

Delirium… I really want to read this! I’ve read all of Lauren Oliver’s books except for this. Everything was okayish (I really didn’t like Panic though), so I’m hoping Delirium will be better for me! Plus it has a great premise as well. 😛

I kind of forgot to check out any of this month’s prompts for T10T which sucks because I would’ve definitely loved to do this one – might have to do that in the future! I seem to remember the Across The Universe trilogy being EVERYWHERE when I first discovered the online book community a couple of years ago! I had it on my TBR up until recently too, but I’d lost interest in it since adding it, so I took it off for now.
The Infernal Devices is definitely the kind of series I would make everyone read because I just love it so much (I’m currently reading the trilogy for the third time!) and feel like everyone needs to read it!
Also, those new covers for the Delirium trilogy are SO PRETTY.

I want to read a lot of these as well! I’ve heard such amazing things about Unwind!
I’ve never seen those covers for Delirium before. They are beautiful!

So I have, and just about Neal Shusterman’s books in general. Here’s hoping they live up to the hype right?
These are the UK ones, or one version of the UK ones. When I get around to buying this series they’ll be the covers I try and get because yeah they’re really gorgeous! 🙂

EPIC list Beth! I LOVE The infernal Devices trilogy more than I love the entire series, fave characters & setting. Across the Universe, Stalking Jack the Ripper and the Summoner series are also at the very top of my TBR. Just sitting here wishing for more hours in the day just so that I can read them all LOL! I hope you enjoy them all when you get around to them <3!

Thanks so much Lilly! 😀 I’ve heard so many amazing things about The Infernal Devices trilogy, and it seems like plenty of people prefer that of all the series Cassandra Clare has written.
In that case I hope you manage to get around to them soon then, god I could really do with more hours in the day as well. Think how much reading we’d be able to get done if there were! 😀
Thanks so much Lilly, I hope you enjoy the ones on your TBR list as well. 🙂 ❤

The Dune series was on my list too! It’s so intimidating to me, but I’ve heard such good things.

Yeah it’s a little intimating to me as well, a combination of the series being so huge, the first book being so long, and all the hype surrounding it. I’ve heard a few good things, enough that I’m sure I’ll love it when I get around to it. 🙂 Hopefully you will as well Sarah.

Personally, I greatly enjoyed the Across the Universe series. It has it’s twists and it’s well written. I would recommend it.

That’s great to hear. 🙂 I haven’t seen much about Across the Universe but it sounded amazing and I need to read more sci-fi books so it was a must-add to my TBR list.
