The Cookie Book Tag

Of all the tags I’ve taken part in since I started blogging food tags are always my favourite. This is actually my second time taking part in The Cookie Book Tag but who doesn’t love cookies, seriously is there anyone out there who doesn’t? I was tagged by Lilly at Lair of Books Blog and Ann at Ann’s Reading Corner. Thanks so much both of you for the tag, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

Chocolate Chip:
A classic book that you love or really enjoyed

Interpret classic how you want, it can be a classic written 100 years ago or 20 years ago.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

This is definitely a book I interpret as a classic, and although it was only once I saw the film that I managed to get past the first few chapters of the book The Princess Bride quickly became one of my all-time favourites, both in terms of films and books.

A fandom that you really want to ‘join’ and/or a hyped-up book you want to read

Legend series by Marie Lu

I started this series when I was in the middle of a huge reading slump, and was unable to get past the halfway mark of the second book which will likely come as no surprise to anyone who’s been in a reading slump before. Since then however I’ve been hearing amazing things about this series so I want to start it again soon.

Shortbread:
An author you can’t get enough of

Laini Taylor

Her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series is one of my all-time favourites, a series that made me believe in magic and that made me fall in love with Prague before stepping foot in the city myself. Her Strange the Dreamer release was the same, and now I am waiting with bated breath to see what Laini Taylor comes out with next.

Samoas/Caramel DeLites:
An emotional rollercoaster

This cookie was hard…so any book that made you feel more than one emotion, strongly. The choice of emotions is up to you.

Half Lost by Sally Green

The main emotion this book made me feel was heartache, and if you’ve read this series you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about, but at the same time I felt every other emotion that came with it; devastation, horror, and hope for a happy ending. Half Lost was definitely a rollercoaster read for me.

Oreos:
A book whose cover was better than the story, or vice versa, where the story was better than the cover

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley

Unfortunately while the cover for this book, and the second in the duology, was gorgeous the story itself wasn’t anywhere near as good. I wouldn’t say I had high hopes for Magonia but I was really let by how shallow the world-building seemed to me, and while Aerie was a little better it still wasn’t what I hoped it would be.

Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties:
A book that wasn’t what you expected

Good, bad, or just different, interpret how you wish.

Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray

I wouldn’t say I had any expectations for this book, good or bad. It sounded interesting, but the fact that it had a gorgeous cover and intriguing blurb was warring with my knowledge that, in terms of sci-fi books, Defy the Stars had tough competition. Still I gave it a go and I’m so glad I did because Defy the Stars ended up being an amazing read.

Snickerdoodles:
A book you may never stop re-reading/loving

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This is actually a book I re-read a lot, at least once a year, and it’s a book I’ve yet to stop loving. Every time I pick up The Night Circus and dive back into the story, the world, and the lives of all the character there’s something new I discover which makes me love this book that little bit more.
