Standalone Sunday is a weekly feature created by Megan at Bookslayer Reads which aims to showcase standalone books which you loved or would recommend.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.
Everyone has that one book that they fall in love with from the very first page, and that they remain in love with no matter how many times they re-read it. For me The Night Circus is that book. I’ve re-read this so many times but every time I go to pick it up again I know I’m going to discover something new, something even more magical about the story.
I don’t think I can properly describe what it is about this book I love so much. The Night Circus is adventure and danger and love wrapped up in a world that is pure magic. This is a book I would recommend to everyone because I think there is something about it everyone will love.
“You think, as you walk away from Le Cirque des Rêves and into the creeping dawn, that you felt more awake within the confines of the circus.
You are no longer quite certain which side of the fence is the dream.”

What did you think of The Night Circus? Have you read it yet or is it still on your to-read list? Let me know in the comments and let me know if you took part in this week’s Standalone Sunday as well.
You already know how much I love this book, so…FANTASTIC CHOICE, BETH ❤

Is this the one you were telling me you couldn’t believe you hadn’t recommended for Standalone Sunday yet? I remember you saying something about that. Anyway! I need to read The Night Circus already. I swear it’s been on my TBR for years now and then after having read your review I was going to read it but never got the time to actually get around to it. It sounds like an incredible book and so magical. If there’s one book I’m 100% promising I’ll get to before the year is over then it’s this one because I need to see for myself what all the hype is. I hope I end up loving it as much as you did, Beth! Great pick for this week. 💕😃

Ha, yeah it was this one. The Night Circus is one of my all-time favourite books, and it’s a standalone, so by that reasoning I almost feel like I should have posted this one ages ago! 😀
I would highly highly recommend this book Melissa. It’s well worth a read but I think you do need to be in the right mood to pick this book up.I’m keeping my fingers crossed you do get to this one this year and that you really love it as well. It would be great if I could talk to you more about The Night Circus the way we have pretty much every single other book we both love!
Thanks so much Melissa! 😀 ❤

I feel like it’s always the books we love that most that slip our mind for recommendation posts like this. Or at least that’s how it’s been for me. 😂
Yeah, it’s a slower and more atmospheric read isn’t it? Definitely seems like one you need to be in the mood for. Which I was whenever I had it on my TBR a few months ago but at the moment it might not be the best idea for me to pick it up. Soon though! Because I am determined to read it before the end of the year. I definitely can’t wait to talk to you about it once I do read it! It’ll be another great book conversation. 😁
You’re welcome, Beth!! 💕

It’s how it is for me as well. I think it’s just with books I love as much as The Night Circus I want to recommend them to the whole world.
Definitely, the writing is beautiful but if you’re not in the mood for it can be really hard to get into. I really want you to read this book as soon as possible but more than that I want you to love it as much as I do so take your time and pick it up when you’re in the mood for it.
Hopefully before the end of the year and then we can have a conversation about it! 😀 ❤

Ohh, yeah I’m not a fan of clowns like at all. I think it goes back to watching Stephen King’s It at a young age! 🙂

This has been on my shelf for months now! I keep looking at it every time I finish a book and thinking, ‘I really should read that’ and then…I don’t, for some reason. I will definitely get to it soon though. Thanks for the reminder. 🙂

I recently started reading this but didn’t get to finish. Not because I didn’t like it, it’s exactly the kind of book I love, there was just something about it that I couldn’t quite get into. Maybe because it relies heavily on visual imagery and I’ve never been a visual reader. But I will definitely be trying again because the story was intriguing.

Oh that’s a shame about not being able to finish this, but at least it wasn’t because you didn’t like it. 🙂
I do think you have to be in a certain mood to read this book, it can be tough to get into at first especially with all the time jumps it has going on. By the time you do get into the story it’s well worth it, and hopefully you’ll find that too if you end up picking this one up again. 🙂
