Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event which aims to shine a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.
A Map for Wrecked Girls by Jessica Taylor
Release Date: August 15th 2017
We sat at the edge of the ocean – my sister Henri and I – inches apart but not touching at all. We’d been so sure someone would find us by now.
Emma had always orbited Henri, her fierce, magnetic queen bee of an older sister, and the two had always been best friends. Until something happened that wrecked them.
I’d trusted Henri more than I’d trusted myself. Wherever she told me to go, I’d follow.
Then the unthinkable occurs—a watery nightmare off the dazzling coast. The girls wash up on shore, stranded. Their only companion is Alex, a troubled boy agonizing over his own secrets. Trapped in this gorgeous hell, Emma and Alex fall together as Emma and Henri fall catastrophically apart.
For the first time, I was afraid we’d die on this shore.
To find their way home, the sisters must find their way back to each other. But there’s no map for this—or anything. Can they survive the unearthing of the past and the upheaval of the present?
I’m pretty sure you can all guess what drew me to this book, it was the cover. It immediately caught my eye and of course I just had to check out the blurb. One of the things I love seeing in contemporary books are family relationships, and it sounds like A Map for Wrecked Girls will have an interesting one between Emma and Henri that I can’t wait to discover more about. If the story is as amazing as the cover I can tell this will be a book I love.
What do you think of A Map for Wrecked Girls? Is it a must on your to-read list, or are there any other books you can’t wait for the release date of? Let me know in the comments and let me know if you took part in this week’s Waiting on Wednesday as well.
This cover is so eye-catching! I love it and the blurb sounds just as good omg. ❤ I had no idea of this book, definitely adding it to the TBR! I adore family relationships so YES PLEASE. 😀

Ouuhh, a book where the character-family development will be center stage! Would definitely be a nice cover-buy too. 😀

Seems kind of appropriate to feature this book as my WoW pick when I had a family related TTT topic the day before! 🙂 But yeah this one sounds amazing, and the cover is gorgeous enough to convince me even if that wasn’t the case! 😀

Yes! This would be a cover buy for me too but I also like the promise of their bonding, their growth and journey in this novel! Sounds great!

For me this one would be a cover buy but a cover buy in which I am seriously interested in the story as well! The development of the characters sounds like it could be amazing based on what the blurb promises! 🙂

Yeah the gorgeous cover is what drew me to this book in the first place. I just couldn’t resist! Definitely agree, I’d love to see more books that explore family dynamics like this one seems to.
Thanks Azia! 😀

I never think yellow works on covers, but here it’s wow! The blurb sounds interesting enough but it sure would be a cover buy for me!

I’ve never thought about that before, I guess there’s no colour I think won’t work on covers, but this one does seem especially gorgeous. It would definitely be a cover buy for me too, luckily the blurb is one that really interests me as well. 😀

Yeah it’s a gorgeous cover isn’t it? And this is a book I need on my shelves but I’d likely take forever to get around to it too. My TBR list is kind of insane at the moment! 🙂

I know how you feel! I haven’t even touched anything I have on my shelves. Been going through so many e-arcs! I need to get back to hard copies soon so I can get my numbers down lol.

I just tend to get distracted from my to-read list by other books I discover that aren’t currently on it. I’m a mood reader so it’s very easy for me to get distracted that way. 🙂

Totally understand. I can’t read something if I’m not in the mood for that particular story. At the moment, I really just want to read a lot of Fantasy lol.

That’s exactly how I feel, I seem to be on a bit of a fantasy binge at the moment! 😀

This is the first I’ve heard of this one and I am intrigued. And that cover!! 😍😍 Contemporaries with family relationships, especially sisters, are always some of my favorites too so that definitely makes me want to read this one. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the characters are stranded on an island after a shipwreck before. I’ve watched shows before but never seen it in a book. Seems like it’s going to be a unique one. Great pick for this week, Beth!! 😊♥

Yeah before I saw it on Goodreads, looking for future releases I could feature in WoW posts, I hadn’t heard of this one before either. The cover is definitely what caught my eye. 😍
This one sounds like such a unique concept, and if the relationship between the two sisters is well developed and written, which I really hope it is because the family dynamic is what drew me to this when I read the blurb, this could become a favourite read of mine.
I haven’t even watched shows where something like that has happened. At least not that I can remember. So it will make this book even more of an adventure and a unique read!
Thanks so much Melissa! 🙂 ❤

I so need to look through GR for books the feature on my WoW posts because I’m running out. For a while there I had a standalone fantasy theme going on but well I haven’t found another one in a while. 🙈
It really does sound like a unique concept and here’s to hoping the family dynamics are well written! I definitely like the whole idea because it seems like it could be a great sister dynamic. Also, intrigued by this guy on the island with them.
I was thinking about it and I’ve actually on seen plane crash on a deserted island type shows not shipwreck ones. Unless you count that movie Castaway which I’ve seen way too many times.
You’re welcome, Beth!! 😊♥

I have a few WoW posts saved in my Drafts folder, and I already have an idea for another one so yeah GR really does help with planning future posts. There aren’t many standalone fantasies I don’t think, at least I certainly don’t seem to see them as often as I do series.
Yeah it does, and I think if the characters are well developed their relationships will be as well. It seems like the dynamics between the three characters are the main part of this story so hopefully that means they will be well written.
See even when it comes to plane crashes on deserted island the only thing that comes to mind is Lost! 🙂

I’ve come across one other fantasy standalone through someone else’s WoW post but beyond that I haven’t come across any others so most likely there aren’t many being released. I see them less often than series too but it’s neat to come across them. I like recommending them to people who I know want to read fantasy but prefer standalones. 😁
For me it’s Lost and then Flight 29 Down. I’ve watched both of them but haven’t finished either. 😂

I’ll need to see if I can spot some. I find it easier to find magical realism standalones. I have one I want to feature for my next next next (I have the next couple saved in my drafts folder) post. Hey if you find more standalones let me know, I’m always on the lookout for them.
I lost interest in Lost, it got too ridiculous and I couldn’t keep up with the storylines. Shame because it started really well. 🙂

Same actually, I find way more magical realism standalones than anything (aside from contemporaries). I can’t wait to see the one you have picked out for a future WoW! I actually had a fantasy standalone lined up for this weeks WoW but I kind of decided to become a reading hermit for a while and ignore everything but LoS. I’ll have it up for next week though! 😊

In fact it’s finding magical realism series that tends to be tough. I guess you could call The Raven Cycle series magical realism in a way, but other than that it’s mainly standalones.
In that case I’ll look forwards to your next weeks Waiting on Wednesday Melissa! 😀

I’m glad you featured this! I had seen the title around, but would never have guessed what the book was about from the title alone! That is a stunning cover, too.

Thanks. It was the gorgeous cover that drew me to this book in the first place, I’ll admit I haven’t seen this book around at all but I would have never guessed what it was about from the title alone either! 🙂

It’s beyond gorgeous isn’t it? Even if the blurb didn’t interest me I’d still likely buy it just because of how amazing the cover is! 🙂 ❤
Yes, family relationships in books is an immediate go-to for me. Basically this book has everything I need to convince me I need to read it ASAP! 😀
