The Sunshine Blogger Award Part One

Between the last time I published a post for this award and now, I was nominated by nine bloggers. Rather than creating one massive post of nearly one hundred questions I’ve split this into three parts. If you nominated me for this award before the end of March and don’t see your questions here they’ll be in part two or three which will be published soon, but at a later date. I was tagged by Lost in Pages, Annike and Zoë at Twin Tales, and Sunshine and Cyclones. Thanks so much for the tag everyone, I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading my answers just as much.

The Sunshine Blogger Award

Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Answer 11 questions set by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 bloggers to receive the award and write them 11 new questions to answer.

Lost in Pages’ Questions:

  1. What is the top thing on your bucket list?

I have a lot on my bucket list so picking just one top thing is quite hard. If I had to choose though it would probably be sky diving, simply because it’s the first thing I think I put on my bucket list, way back when, and something I think I may have the opportunity to do next year.

  1. What was the most joyous moment of your life?

Back in my old job I was miserable, I was there for too long and it had gotten to the stage where I couldn’t handle going in day after day, and doing the same things over and over again. So my most joyous moment comes from when I got the phone call letting me know I’d been successful in my application for another job. Honestly just hearing I had a new job lifted a weight off my shoulders.

  1. If you could be the character of a novel for a whole day, which character would you choose and from which novel? Why so?

Definitely Kell from the Shades of Magic series. He gets to travel to different Londons, and while I wouldn’t want to visit White or Black London, and I’m pretty sure I live in Grey London myself, getting to experience Red London even just for one day would be amazing.

shades-of-magic-uk-series

  1. Would you rather be able to change your past or be able to look in your future and why?

Change my past. I’m happy enough to let my future remain a mystery, but there are plenty of things in my past I would love to change – mistakes I made, opportunities I didn’t take, etc. They’re right when they say hindsight is 20/20, trust me.

  1. If you are stuck on an island and you get to take one thing with you, what would you choose?

My laptop, with infinite charge of course. I’m on it pretty much every day so I’d feel too strange going too long without it, plus my chances of signalling for help would be much better with a laptop and preferably a working internet connection as well.

  1. Which kind of person do you prefer to hang out with?

My friends. People who get me, who know I’m an introvert and sometimes prefer staying in to going out. People who understand my weird sense of humour, my habit of putting my foot in my mouth and who I trust enough to open up to.

  1. What is the best compliment you have ever received?

When people say I’m a happy person. It’s not something that has come easy to me, being happy, so whenever someone says it it always makes me feel better about myself, like I’ve succeeded where I wanted to.

  1. Would you rather witness the beginning of the earth or the ending of the earth and why?

Beginning of the earth. I think there’s just so much potential in that instant of creation, so seeing it with my own two eyes would be unforgettable. Plus I don’t think I’d want to see the end of the world in case I realised it was quickly approaching.

  1. If you could change one moment in history, what would it be?

I don’t think I would change anything. I’m a big believer in the butterfly effect, you go back in time to kill Hitler and when you return to the future somehow Germany has won World War II. Also there are so many things I could choose picking one is just impossible.

  1. Do you believe that everyone on earth has a purpose? Explain.

No. I believe people can choose to have a purpose if they want one, if they believe in something enough to chase after it and make it mean something. I think for the most part we’re all just here living our lives and trying to make the best we can of them.

Annike and Zoë’s Questions:

  1. What’s your favourite book of all time?

If I had to choose just one it would have to be The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. No matter how many times I re-read it I just seem to fall in love more and more with the story, the characters, and the world itself.

The Night Circus

  1. How often do you spend reading each week?

I normally only read on weekdays during my commute to and from work and during my lunch break, so overall that’s about 20 hours as week on average.

  1. What is your favourite movie adaption from a book?

The Princess Bride, a film which I actually enjoyed more than the book if I’m being 100% honest. As much as I love the book, and I do don’t get me wrong, it was incredibly confusing at the beginning and I just found it a lot easier to follow the story watching the film than I did reading the book.

the-princess-bride

  1. What is your favourite book cover of all time?

Oh I can’t choose just one. There are so many amazing books out there which have truly gorgeous covers, but one series with stunning covers, that is probably my favourite if I had to pick, is the Starbound series by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner.

starbound-series

  1. Why did you call your blog what you did?

Honestly there’s no real reason I picked Reading Every Night for my blog title. When I was first starting out I knew I wanted to start a book blog, so obviously I wanted something that referenced books or reading in the name. After that it was just playing with combinations of words and phrases until I found something that wasn’t already taken.

  1. What author would you want to meet the most?

J.K. Rowling. This seems like a really standard and cliché answer for this question but Harry Potter was the first series I fell in love with and the series that started my love of reading. Without it I don’t know where I’d be today but it probably wouldn’t be on WordPress, blogging and talking to everyone about books. Meeting J.K. Rowling, even just for a few minutes, would be a dream come true for me.

Harry Potter

  1. What is your favourite book related social media site?

Goodreads, it’s the only social media site other than WordPress I’ve always been active on. In fact even before I was on WordPress I had a Goodreads profile. I love being able to keep track of what I’ve read and what I’ve still got to read, I love the yearly Reading Challenges and I love that you can see quotes from so many different books and/or authors as well.

  1. What are some names of book characters that you love?

I don’t normally read books, see character names and fall in love with them. The only book I can think of that really inspired that reaction in me is Alice from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Alice in Wonderland - Cover

  1. Are you a member of a book club, if not would you want to be?

Not a member and honestly I don’t think I’d want to be either. I’m a mood reader so I pick up books on whims based on what I want to read, when I want to read it. I wouldn’t do well in a book club where the books were assigned and likely wouldn’t always be what I want to read.

  1. Why is your most anticipated 2017 novel?

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas. Now A Conjuring of Light and The Song Rising have been released there’s no other acceptable answer for this question.

A Court of Wings and Ruin

  1. Who is your book crush?

I don’t really have one at the moment. My first book crush though was Owen from Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. It may be time for a re-read of that book to see if he’s still a book crush of mine.

just-listen

Sunshine and Cyclones’ Questions:

  1. What’s your favourite part about having a blog?

It is definitely, definitely, talking to all the other people I’ve met on WordPress so far. The bookish community on here is such a wonderful place and, when it comes down to it, talking to people about books is the whole reason I started this blog in the first place.

  1. Reading or writing, and why?

Reading. Simply because at heart I am kind of a lazy person and it takes less effort to pick up a book and start reading than it does to sit down and start writing.

  1. What’s your happiness formula? (e.g. bed + book + tea = happiness)

Miserable weather outside + Warm and comfy inside + All-time favourite book + All-time favourite film + No other responsibilities = A perfect day

  1. What’s your favourite song?

At the moment Warriors by Imagine Dragons, but my favourite song changes all the time so ask me again in a week and I’ll have a different answer for you.

  1. Which superpower do you desperately need and why?

Teleportation. I spend three hours a day travelling to and from work so I would save so much time each day if I could teleport. Plus it would be great to simply teleport to all the places in the world I want to see, and be back home again before it gets too late.

  1. Which language to you wish you spoke?

I’m actually learning a language right now. It’s hard going so I guess I’d say Italian, because if I spoke it right now there’s be no need for me to learn it and I could start something else.

  1. Which book to show/movie adaptation is your favourite?

Shadowhunters. Granted I haven’t read the books in ages, and I haven’t got past City of Glass either, but at the moment I just prefer the show. That could all change when I go back and re-read the books.

Shadowhunters

  1. What is your Patronus on Pottermore (or your spirit animal if you aren’t a Potterhead)?

A swift.

HP Patronus

  1. What social cause do you feel the strongest about (e.g. LGBTQ+ rights, animal rights, etc.)?

I care about a lot of issues but the two that I feel the most strongly about are LGBTQ+ rights and equal rights.

  1. What book made you cry the most?

Half Lost by Sally Green. I kind of knew this was a series that wouldn’t end well, I knew something would happen that would break my heart, but I was still devastated by that way it did end. Even now I’m still not over it.

half-lost

  1. Who is your favourite fictional book couple (OTP basically)?

Jesper and Wylan from Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. As much as I loved all the couples in this duology, Jesper and Wylan were my favourite. I could honestly read a whole other series about their adventures after the ending of Crooked Kingdom.

Crooked Kingdom

  1. Ahhhh Jesper and Wylan are the BEST!! Also it’s so great that you got out of the job that was bringing you down! It sounds like it was a miserable experience and I hope the job you have now is making you happier. ❤ Going to Red London would be SO AMAZING omg!! And ooh now that ACOWAR is also released (and you've read it) what other book are you looking forward to the most?? 😉

    1. Oh they really are, they were definitely my OTP in that duology! 😀 ❤ Yeah it was one of my best days when i got the call letting me know I'd gotten a new job and could quit the one I was in at the time. My new job is a lot better thanks Analee! 🙂
Red London would be an amazing destination vacation! Now ACOWAR has been released I'd say Our Dark Duet and The Song of the Current, at the moment at least! 😀

  2. oh beth!! I have ACOWAR right behind me on my shelf and I simply cannot wait to devour this book! I’m surprised I haven’t stop in my tracks to just simply pick it up lol.
I found myself nodding throughout the questions, I feel like I would love to experience the beginning of earth as well. I think it would be way more beautiful than the world is now with all the destruction of trees and natural life.
although I had placed A Darker Shade of Magic down cause I was in a reading slump, the different Londons were amazing. I’m surprised you said you feel like you live in Grey London, now I’m super interested to read this book even more lol.
Jesper and Wylan from the Six of Crows Duology are amazing, they are so cute and quirky!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Oh then you have got an amazing reading experience ahead of you. I was the same the second I got my hands on a Kindle copy I started reading immediately, and it was amazing! I’m sure you’ll love it just as much.
It would be a learning experience, and I think it would be pretty amazing as well to see everything from the Big Bang to the first signs of life you know?
In that case I hope you manage to pick it up again soon. The world building in the whole series was beyond amazing, and it’s a brilliant story as well. Yeah Grey London is the one without magic, I guess the closest to where I am now, but I’d love to live in Red London! 😀
Definitely agree, of all the couples they were the ones I was rooting for the most! 🙂 ❤

  3. Great answers! Friends are definitely the best kind of people to hang around with. 😉 I’d actually like to see the end of the world. With maybe the hope of rebirth right when you’ve seen the edge. I feel like it would be VERY insightful on human nature. After all, there’s a reason why dystopias are so fascinating hahahha 😛 But that’s just me hihih

    1. Thanks so much Lashaan! 😀 They really are, and I always love hanging out with my friends, no matter what it is we end up doing. Hmm, interesting way of looking at it, but could you say that is potentially the beginning of the world again if there is some hope of rebirth? I’m a bit so-so on dystopias but yeah I used to love them so I completely get where you’re coming from! 🙂

      1. Bahahah yeh, I said that just to not make the idea of the end of world seem to bleak. Honestly, whether there’s hope or not at the end isn’t that important, it’s how everything builds up during the toughest time in everyone’s life that interests me hahaha 😛

    1. Well that’s good to hear. It’s something I find myself thinking about more often than not, I look back on what I did and wonder how my life would have turned out if I made different decisions. I guess at the end of the day I’m happy with where my life is at the moment so I wouldn’t risk doing anything to change it.
Yeah a very long commute, but plenty of time for reading at least! 😀

  4. Lovely answers, Beth! Being seen as a happy person is such an awesome thing, and such a nice compliment as well ❤
I'm so glad to hear that you found a job that makes you happier just as well, I'm hoping to reach that someday 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Marie, and yeah I think it is as well. I’m always a little surprised when people say that about me though because in the past, and in my old job, I really wasn’t happy and people could tell that.
Yeah I’m thrilled as well, it took a fair while to get there but it was all worth it in the end. I hope you manage to reach it soon, but again it will be worth it when you do! 🙂 ❤

    1. Oh same, and I am so so glad they both managed to get a happy ending. Knowing Leigh Bardugo it could have gone either way couldn’t it? 🙂
Do you have her books on your to-read list? If not and they’re not your thing I’m sure you’re not the only person who hasn’t jumped on the train yet, but if you have I hope you enjoy them. Also I hope The Assassin’s Curse lives up to your expectations as well! 😀

  5. I loved reading your answers for this so much, Beth!! Confidence that your current favorite song is Warriors by Imagine Dragons because I’ve been working on a Court of Dreams/Inner Circle playlist and that’s one of the songs I put on it. I had it on repeat for a few days. It’s such a good song! And I would so want to be Kell too. Getting to travel to Red London and having that coat (which I would so steal his coat from him if I could) would be awesome! Either that or Lila. I might actually want to be Lila for a day too only because she is badass and I wish I was as badass as her 😂. But I would still try to take Kell’s coat for obvious reasons. Who doesn’t want a magical coat? Also, Owen was one of my first fictional crushes! I so need to reread Just Listen too. It’s been way too long since I last read it. I would also want teleportation, mainly because then I could travel anywhere for free. And Wylan and Jesper and one of my top OTPs too. 😁♥

    1. Thanks so much Melissa, that’s great to hear! 😀 Ohh, in that case you need to let me know what other songs are on that playlist when you’re done, if you’ve got Warriors on it changes are I’ll love the other tracks you pick too! 🙂 It’s kind of a song I associated with Kaz and the rest of the Six of Crows crew.
The coat would be amazing, I wish I could have one like it in real life, and I imagine even if you were Lila you could still find a way to steal Kell’s coat. I’m kind of surprised she didn’t do that in the series because it would have been the first thing on my list if I were her.
I need to re-read it as well. I’m trying to work my way through the Sarah Dessen releases I haven’t gotten to yet but it’s slow going, kind of like the rest of the books on my to-read list. 🙂
Teleportation would make my life sooo much easier, who wouldn’t want that.
And yeah so happy Wylan and Jesper got a happy ending, could have gone either way couldn’t it? 😀 ❤

      1. You’re welcome, Beth!! 😁 I’m actually planning on posting a link to it with my review for ACOWAR. I have that and a Feyre/Rhys playlist I’ve been working on that I want to share with it. I’ve been making so many book playlists lately lol. I even made one just for Paige and then started working on one for my OTP in The Dark Artifices. 🙈 Also, now that you mention it Warriors definitely makes me think of the Six of Crows crew too. That one along with Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds of Mars (which is my theme song for them).
Right? Then you wouldn’t need another coat because you could just change the one you have with magic. Same, I was surprised she never took his coat either. If I was her that would be on the top of my list too.
I haven’t even started working my way through her new release. I planned to do that this year but well I’ve been on this fantasy binge. 😂
It really could have! Though I still wish we had gotten a chapter for them in the end. I need a short novella for them honestly.

      2. I have seen your review for ACOWAR in my feed so will be checking it out once I’ve answered comments on my Notifications, so soon maybe? I’m not sure how long it will take to reply to everything first. 🙂
Well I love music and I love books so anything that combines the two is always going to be a win. Yep, I can’t remember if I heard the song or read the book first but when I either read the book of heard the song second I thought it was a perfect fit! 😀 Ohh, same with Kings and Queen, I never thought about that before you said it but you’re right it’s perfect.
The possibilities are endless, and I dunno maybe Lila just didn’t think the coat was worth it compared to the other things she got from Kell, like the magic stone in the first book. Maybe it’s a planned steal for her sometime in the future as well! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Same, books and music go so well together too. Probably because they both tell stories. 😊 And with Kings and Queens it was that moment in Six of Crows when Kaz says, “We’ll be the Kings and Queens, Inej, Kings and Queens.” that had me running to listen to the song which ultimately fit them so much. This talk of Six of Crows has me wanting to reread it!
Probably. Though she did go through his coat, or tried to, whenever she tied him up in ADSOM. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      4. I never thought about it that way but you’re right about that. For me I just normally listen to music when I read, because I mostly read on my commute, so my brain automatically associates the two of them together.
I want to read Six of Crows as well, maybe I can later on this year! 😀
She ended up thinking it was more strange/weird than cool didn’t she. I guess she got a little confused by all the coats it had. I certainly would have! 😀

  6. JESPER AND WYLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. ❤ ❤ And I'm picking up AGOS from the library this weekend so I'm super excited! And yeees, I'm a big advocate for LGBT+ rights, women's rights, and equal rights. Equal rights basically covers all rights, really. XD I'm learning French right now, and it's cool, but I want to learn Thai, because I AM Thai (living in America) and can't speak the language. Only understand it. XD And YAS, the bookish community (and the blogging community in general) is simply amazing!

    1. Yes, Jesper and Wylan are like one of my ultimate OTPs! 😀 ❤ I'm so so glad they got a happy ending. 🙂
Oh my god that's amazing, I hope you really enjoy it. Once you've finished you'll want to start ACOL pretty much the next second! 🙂
Equal rights does cover all, and yeah I think it's important to support these kind of things.
Well good luck with learning French, and if you decide to good luck learning Thai as well. Learning a language is so hard isn't it?
      Definitely definitely amazing! 😀 ❤
