Her search for answers leads her to the self-proclaimed gossip-worker Luca, and their investigation sends them through a haze of political turmoil and forbidden romance, and into the most sinister corners of the Festival. But as the killer continues murdering Sorina’s illusions one by one, she must unravel the horrifying truth before all of her loved ones disappear.

Literally all I needed to read in the blurb was that this book is set in a ‘travelling carnival of debauchery that caters to the strangest of dreams and desires’ and it was an instant add to my to-read list. Like Caraval and The Night Circus I love books that take circuses and carnivals, add a little magic, and create a unique world I would love to explore for myself. This sounds like it’s going to be an instant favourite of mine and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

  1. Carnival, you say? Count me in. The blurb already has me caught. After The Night Circus and Caraval, I have become circus/carnival trash. I will literally read anything with a circus in it now LOL

    1. That was pretty much the first and only thing I saw before knowing I needed this book on my to-read list. Yeah The Night Circus and Caraval have turned me into circus/carnival trash too, unfortunately there aren’t that many books that feature circuses in them. 🙂

  5. I saw this cover floating around NetGalley and didn’t stop to look at the blurb but now I wish I had because this sounds like it’s going to be good. I’m so glad you picked this one this week, Beth! Otherwise, I might have never known what it was about. I’ve still yet to read a book set in a carnival (though I do hope to get to TNC soon, either before or after I read ACOWAR) but I really like how this sounds. Plus, anything that mentions forbidden romance piques my interest instantly because that might just be one of my favorite romance tropes. I am definitely adding this to my TBR! And it seems like it’s going to be a standalone so yay for another fantasy standalone. 😁♥

    1. Yeah someone else said the same about this book. I didn’t see it on NetGalley but I spotted it in GR and just couldn’t resist the cover. It sounds amazing doesn’t it? I definitely can’t wait to get my hands on this book when it’s released.
      Ha, glad I could be of help in that case then. I would say if you’re looking to start a book set in a carnival start with The Night Circus because it is the best of the best, but this one does sound pretty amazing as well, guess we’ll just have to read and discover for ourselves! 😀
      Yeah we need more fantasy standalones, and maybe more forbidden romance as well. That’s a trope I enjoy reading too! 😀 ❤

      1. I check NetGalley way too often. Even though I’m on a ban I swear I find myself looking through whatever they’ve added at least once a day. 😂
        This one really does sound amazing. And I definitely plan on starting with The Night Circus. I’m not letting myself read any other carnival book until I read that one. Which, it’s not looking like I’ll get to it before ACOWAR but soon. I have it checked out from my library and everything. 😊
        We definitely more of both!

      2. I check it at least once a day as well. I can’t help myself, even when I’m on a ban as well I still check.
        The Night Circus is the best of the best in my opinion, it will ruin you for all over circus/carnival books but it’s so brilliant I think you’ll really love it. Oh that’s a shame, but yeah ACOWAR has got to come first hasn’t it? 🙂

      3. I feel like I keep checking because I’m waiting for the second Gilded Cage book to pop up on there. I know Tarnished City is being released in September and I’m definitely requesting it the second it pops up on NetGalley. 🙈
        Yep, ACOWAR comes first. I’m going into my reading hole the moment it appears on my Kindle. I have a feeling I won’t be able to stop reading it for anything.

    1. It definitely is, the cover was a huge draw for me when it came to adding this book to my to-read list. 🙂 Ah, see it was the carnival aspect that made me so excited for this book, but I hope you end up enjoying it no matter what! 🙂

    1. Yeah the cover is what caught my eye first as well. It was so gorgeous I just couldn’t resist checking out what it was about. I only saw it for the first time recently but I can understand why it’s been around GR and Twitter, I imagine there are a fair few people excited for this book! 🙂

  12. Beth! Can I just start by saying that when your post popped up on my Reader I got so excited! LOL! usually they appear when I’m on my underground commute home but can’t comment back ANYWAYS! YESSS on this weeks pick! ‘travelling carnival of debauchery that caters to the strangest of dreams and desires’ caught my eye as well haha! I love the (with the exception of Water for Elephants) every circus book I’ve read and the stranger the better. This one has creep factor which is a +++ ;0)

    1. I actually posted this one a little earlier than I normally would, just because I finished replying to comments a little earlier this evening. It’s kind of strange hearing you say you’re on the underground commute home because for me it’s late evening here, makes it seem like you work until really late at night! 🙂
      Anyways, yes the second I saw this book I knew I had to feature it as a Waiting on Wednesday pick. It sounds like it will be something I love because every circus book I’ve read I’ve loved, and after The Night Circus I’m always on the look out for more like it in that aspect. Here’s hoping this ends up being one we both enjoy! 😀 ❤
