The Sky is Everywhere is the second Jandy Nelson book I read, but it’s actually my favourite. I only discovered the author after it seemed like everyone had read and loved I’ll Give You the Sun, I need to see what all the fuss was about. I fell in love with that book immediately, so it made perfect sense to jump right into The Sky is Everywhere after finishing it.

Of all the books I’ve read this is one of the best that deals the grief of losing someone you love. The main part of this story is Lennie’s journey accepting and moving past her sister’s death, and I felt it was all incredibly written, powerful and moving. The Sky is Everywhere is always going to be a favourite YA contemporary book of mine, and Jandy Nelson an auto-buy author as well.

  3. You have no idea how happy I got when I saw that you featured The Sky is Everywhere this week, Beth! You know how much I love this book and that I completely agree with everything you said. This one is definitely one the best books I’ve read in terms of how it covers the topic of grief and it just such a beautiful story. And that quote! That quote is one of my favorites from the book. You also just reminded me that it has been way too long since I last reread it. I’m going to have to reread this book sometime soon. Also, I need Jandy Nelson to publish another book! 🙈

    1. Yeah I just had to feature this one eventually, I’m just surprised I didn’t get around to it sooner! I think it’s safe to say this is definitely a favourite book for both of us right?
      Jandy Nelson is such an amazing author. I’m definitely in awe of the way she writes her books and I cannot wait to get my hands on her next release, whatever it may be.
      It’s one of my favourites too, and actually I could probably do with re-reading it as well. I know this will be a book I love just as much the second time as I did the first.

      1. Definitely a favorite for both of us! Which is awesome since you’re one of the few people I know who prefer it over I’ll Give You The Sun too. (though both are incredible) 😊
        She really is! There’s such a great flow to the way she writes, almost lyrical at times and nearly always quote worthy. I adore her writing. I will be dropping everything for the next book she releases! I can’t wait either!
        Oh you will, I’ve reread it nearly as much as I have ACOMAF and I always find something else to love about it every time I do.

      2. I remember talking to someone about this series once and they said that most people who read I’ll Give You the Sun first prefer that, and people who read The Sky is Everywhere first prefer that one. I actually read I’ll Give You the Sun first and still prefer The Sky is Everywhere though.
        Exactly, I could pretty much quote her whole book, she’s an amazing writer. Same here, I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
        That is a lot of times I guess. I really need to get around to a re-read soon in that case! 😀 ❤

      3. I’ve actually heard that too before, about people who read IGYTS first tend to prefer it over TSIE and vice verse. Which that’s been the pattern I’ve seen but definitely not always true since it wasn’t like that for you. 😊
        I swear I’m addicted to rereading books. Which isn’t always such a bad thing lol.

      4. Nope, not always true, but it does seem to be the case with most people. And it seems to me like more people enjoy IGYTS more because I’ve seen so many more reviews for that book.
        Definitely not a bad thing, I re-read books a lot as well! 😀

      5. It does seem like more people enjoy IGYTS more and sometimes I wonder if it’s because the writing is less lyrical and there’s a tiny bit less romance. It isn’t as present as it is in TSIE. That and the whole two guys thing which while decidedly not a love triangle kind of played like one a tiny bit lol.

      6. I’m not sure, I guess if lyrical writing doesn’t stick well with some people then possibly. I guess as writers release more books their writing does improve so maybe that was the case with these two.
        I will admit the reference to the almost love triangle in TSIE nearly put me off before I started reading. Luckily I soon realised it wasn’t the case when I actually started the book you know? 🙂

      7. There’s that too. Most author’s writing does improve with each book they release.
        I actually went into TSIE blind because I got it from a summer reading program at the library and am so glad I did otherwise the almost love triangle reference might have nearly put me off of it too. I’m glad it ended up not putting you off the book too. 😊

      8. I guess that was a good way to read this book, with no expectations. I was a little hesitant I’ll admit but I’d already read and loved IGYTS so I think my love for Jandy Nelson outweighed any hatred for love triangles I felt then! 🙂

I’ve been trying to add more contemporaries to my list after reading A List of Cages. I’ve discovered many of them can be just as good as a fantasy book LOL. Thanks for sharing this one! 😀

      It’s an amazing read, and I’d say definitely one you need in your life as well.
      I haven’t read A List of Cages yet but I think if you liked that one you should like this one, contemporaries can be as good as fantasy books and it’s nice to have a change in genre every now and again isn’t it?

  6. Yes yes yes, I am SO HAPPY you featured this book this week. It’s one of my favorite and I cried so hard while reading it, it made me so emotional. I love Jandy Nelson just as well and can barely wait for her next book to come out!

    1. Yeah I’m a little surprised it took me so long to get around to featuring a Jandy Nelson book, but better late than never right? She’s one of my favourite contemporary authors and The Sky is Everywhere is my favourite book by her so I had to feature this one first.
      Oh yes, so so so excited for her new release. I’m sure it will be just as amazing as what we’ve read so far! 😀
