March Recap

Another month has been and gone, and with it more of my most anticipated releases of 2017 have been released. Overall March was a great month for me; I unveiled my new blog design, I read and reviewed what was my most anticipated releases of this year, and I finally created a Goodreads account for this blog.

About time right?

Monthly Recaps - This Month

Books I Reviewed

March Recap '17, #1

The Scarecrow Queen by Melinda Salisbury

This series just seemed to get better with each book. I enjoyed the first and loved the second, so it was no surprise that I thought the third and final book was the best of the trilogy.

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab

Chances are if you’ve been following my blog for a while you know how much I love this series and how excited I was for A Conjuring of Light. This was my most anticipated release for 2017 and it more than lived up to my expectations.

History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

After reading Adam Silvera’s first book I jumped straight into History is All You Left Me. This book was just as moving, just as heartbreaking, and just as beautifully written as More Happy Than Not.

Zeroes Series

Zeroes was a re-read for me before I picked up Swarm, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time as I did the first. After the way Swarm ended I cannot wait to get my hands on the third book in the series.

Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti

Swarm by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti

ARC Review: A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi

Another of my most anticipated releases for 2017 A Crown of Wishes was better than I thought it would be, and even better than The Star-Touched Queen was in my opinion.

I received a copy of this book from St. Martin’s Griffin.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

There aren’t really enough words to fully describe how much I love this book. It’s one I’m always re-reading, and every time I pick it up there’s something new I discover about the story or the characters that I fall more in love with.

ARC Review: Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray

I only requested this from NetGalley on a whim, but it’s one of the best books I’ve picked up this year so far. Defy the Stars reminds me what it is about the sci-fi genre I love so much, and I can’t wait to get my hands on book two.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.

The Remnant Chronicles

While I wasn’t that much of a fan of the first book, the pacing was a little too slow for my liking, by the time I got around to the second and third books I could understand what it was about this series everyone loved.

The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson

Wires and Nerve by Marissa Meyer

It’s no secret Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series is one of my all-time favourites, so I was really excited to get around to Iko’s story. While I haven’t read many graphic novels Wires and Nerve is still a favourite of mine.

Monthly Recaps - Book Haul

This was the month all the hardcover editions I pre-ordered arrived from the US, so this was the month I possibly spent more on shipping than I did on books. Still, seeing all of the US editions I brought sitting on my bookshelves I can’t bring myself to regret that decision.

March Recap '17, #3

Fairy Loot

Monthly Recaps - Last Month

Last month something amazing happened, I actually managed to complete my monthly TBR list. Ever since I started including books I wanted to read and review the following month in my recaps I never managed to stick to one, but now that I have I have good feelings for April’s TBR list.

March Recap '17, #4

The Ship Beyond Time by Heidi Heilig

The breath-taking sequel to the acclaimed The Girl from Everywhere. Nix has escaped her past, but when the person she loves most is at risk, even the daughter of a time traveller may not be able to outrun her fate—no matter where she goes. Fans of Rae Carson, Alexandra Bracken, and Outlander will fall hard for Heidi Heilig’s sweeping fantasy.

Nix has spent her whole life journeying to places both real and imagined aboard her time-traveling father’s ship. And now it’s finally time for her to take the helm. Her father has given up his obsession to save her mother – and possibly erase Nix’s existence – and Nix’s future lies bright before her. Until she learns that she is destined to lose the one she loves. But her relationship with Kash – best friend, thief, charmer extraordinaire – is only just beginning. How can she bear to lose him? How can she bear to become as adrift and alone as her father?

Desperate to change her fate, Nix takes her crew to a mythical utopia to meet another Navigator who promises to teach her how to manipulate time. But everything in this utopia is constantly changing, and nothing is what it seems—not even her relationship with Kash. Nix must grapple with whether anyone can escape her destiny, her history, her choices. Heidi Heilig weaves fantasy, history, and romance together to tackle questions of free will, fate, and what it means to love another person. But at the centre of this adventure are the extraordinary, multifaceted, and multicultural characters that leap off the page, and an intricate, recognizable world that has no bounds. The sequel – and conclusion – to the indie darling The Girl from Everywhere will be devoured by fans of Rachel Hartman and Maggie Stiefvater. Includes black-and-white maps.

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder―much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing – not even a smear of blood – to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know…

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

A new epic fantasy by National Book Award finalist and New York Times bestselling author Laini Taylor of the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy.

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around—and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance to lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? and if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

In this sweeping and breathtaking new novel by National Book Award finalist Laini Taylor, author of the New York Times bestselling Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy, the shadow of the past is as real as the ghosts who haunt the citadel of murdered gods. Fall into a mythical world of dread and wonder, moths and nightmares, love and carnage.

Welcome to Weep.

Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza

Crown princess Rhiannon Ta’an wants vengeance.

The only surviving heir to an ancient Kalusian dynasty, Rhee has spent her life training to destroy the people who killed her family. Now, on the eve of her coronation, the time has finally come for Rhee to claim her throne—and her revenge.

Alyosha is a Wraetan who has risen above his war refugee origins to find fame as the dashing star of a DroneVision show. Despite his popularity, Aly struggles with anti-Wraetan prejudices and the pressure of being perfect in the public eye.

Their paths collide with one brutal act of violence: Rhee is attacked, barely escaping with her life. Aly is blamed for her presumed murder.

The princess and her accused killer are forced to go into hiding—even as a war between planets is waged in Rhee’s name. But soon, Rhee and Aly discover that the assassination attempt is just one part of a sinister plot. Bound together by an evil that only they can stop, the two fugitives must join forces to save the galaxy.

In this exhilarating debut for fans of Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and Pierce Brown’s Red Rising trilogy, Rhoda Belleza crafts a powerful saga of vengeance, warfare, and the true meaning of legacy.

After all the work I did on my blog over the course of March I’m going to take a break from major reveals and re-designs. I’ll still be posting the same amount, likely, but there are still some finishing touches I need to finish and April is going to be the month for those.

  1. I love everything you’ve done with your blog! It def has that crisp new shine to it haha! You also seem d to have a productive reading month even with all the Re-designing. I am still waiting on my “pre-order” copy of Strange the Dreamer from the U.K. 🤦🏻‍♀️the Fairy Loot box looks BEAUTIFUL as always I hope you enjoy 😉 I LOVE the U.K covers for the Shades of Magic series but I already had the U.S. Editions when I discovered those lol. The Girl From Everywhere I was persuaded to buy the ebook for, to see if I dig it haha! I’ll be looking out for your thoughts on its sequel you’ve hauled here 😃 March seems like it was pretty awesome for you Beth, wishing you a greater April 😊💕

    1. Thanks so much Lilly, it really means a lot to me that you think that. Yeah March was definitely a productive reading month for me, not sure April will be the same but who knows?
Oh I think the wait for your copy of Strange the Dreamer will be well worth it. The UK edition is beyond gorgeous and the story itself is amazing as well!
I have the UK and US editions of Shades of Magic, simply because I love both and it’s my favourite series so why not right?
In that case I hope you end up enjoying it Lilly. I loved the first book and while the second one was good it wasn’t as good.
Thanks so much. I hope you have an amazing April as well Lilly! 😀 ❤

      1. Slowing down a it never hurt anyone either lol, I myself have been thinking of ways to liven things up @ my blog. Hoping to do a make over for my 1 year anniversary end of May. I am anxiously awaiting Strange the Dreamer & didn’t think I’ve ever looked forward to a book as much as this one. Big Laini fan here 🙌🏼 I may also buy the U.S. Edition just cuz I love her so much 🙈☺️🙈☺️ happy reading Beth 💜

      2. Nope, it certainly didn’t, and given how busy March was in terms of blogging it will be nice to step back a little bit, but not too much of course.
Ohh I’d certainly be interested in seeing what you come up with for your one year blogiversary in that case Lilly.
Same here, and Strange the Dreamer was beyond amazing. I’m sure you’ll love it! 😀
        Thanks Lilly. 🙂

  2. Looks like you had a fabulous month! Love your new blog design and most if not all the books you read and reviewed seemed to be pretty entertaining! Also, I just finished AGOS and my goodness what a cliffhanger! How cruel of Schwab to do that LOL. I would definitely be eager to get my hands on that book to if I had to wait a YEAR to see what happens next! Also, excellent book haul, and I’m so excited to see what you think of the TMI series! And Strange the Dreamer, too, which I’ll be reading this week 😀 I hope April turns out to be just as successful a month for you as March was! Happy reading ❤

    1. Thanks so much Azia, yeah March was a pretty good month for me overall. 🙂
Oh my god yes, that cliffhanger was insane and now I’ve actually read ACOL I can’t understand how I waited a whole year to find out what happened. Are you planning on starting ACOL soon given the way AGOS ends?
I’ll hopefully be starting City of Bones this week, and I finished Strange the Dreamer today and it was amazing! I just finished writing my review which will be posted later this week I hope.
Thanks so much Azia, I hope you have an amazing April as well! 😀 ❤

      1. I hope to start it next week! I’ve got to order it this week but I need it in my hands soon because that cliffhanger is ridiculous! I really don’t understand how anyone could wait a year for it 0_o
Yayyyy! I hope you have fun with it! You’re finally going to meet one of my favorite YA characters of all time: Magnus Bane. He is FABULOUS. And I’m glad you loved Strange the Dreamer. I’m only a couple of pages in, but I absolutely love the world-building. It feels so natural. Can’t wait to read that review! ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I hope it arrives soon in that case. I feel like any wait after that cliffhanger is unbearable but yeah a year was just too long not knowing what would happen next.
I can’t wait, there’s so much hype surrounding the series I kind of want to get started now! 🙂
Honestly it gets better and better, I’m sure you’ll love the rest of it! 😀 ❤

  3. Looks like you had a good reading month! The fact that you went out of your way to get the US covers, lord that’s dedication right there. I couldn’t be bothered to go out of my way to get a different cover! I hope you enjoy the Mortal Instruments! 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks Meghan. Yeah this was a good reading month, and just a good month in general. That just proves how much I loved that series, the fact that I was willing to spend so much on shipping just to get the pretty covers. And thanks, I hope so as well! 😀

      1. That’s good to hear! 🙂 I could see myself doing that for Harry Potter, I actually have two version of the Goblet of Fire because I hate the American version so much. I bought it when I took a trip to the states & those books are the same, they’ve even Americanized the text, took out the British slang and made it American; they are horrible. We have the Bloomsbury edition here in Canada… thank god. Anyways totally went on a tangent there 😛

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Ha, always happy to follow a tangent when it involves Harry Potter. 🙂 That’s kind of what I did with The Girl From Everywhere books, I hated the UK cover so I ended up buying the US editions. Luckily I didn’t notice any difference in the Americanized text or the slang or anything.
I have so many editions of Harry Potter, in my opinion you can always do with more than one! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Haha, well that’s good. I don’t know why they did it to Harry Potter, maybe they thought young readers wouldn’t be able to follow along? I did not care for the American books, plus I think those covers are ugly. I have stashed the fourth book in my basement where I don’t want to see it! 😛

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Who knows? I wonder if it’s just a thing, the American versions of every book have American words and the UK versions have UK words. I’ve never really noticed but I guess I haven’t been on the look out for it or anything.
So is the basement where you stash all your unwanted books then? 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      5. Haha it’s where all my children’s book (plus picture books) are that I read as a kid (excluding HP & a Series of Unfortunate Events).
Harry Potter is the only book I’ve noticed it with, but there could totally be others.

        Liked by 1 person

  4. Wow, you had a really productive month! Good on you for sticking to your TBR, which is something I don’t manage to do very often 🙂

Oh, and I absolutely loved History Is All You Left Me too! It’s heart-breaking and devastating but so so worth it ❤

    -Lauren

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yeah I thought so as well, and I don’t think sticking to my TBR list will be an every month thing. The fact I did last month seems more of a fluke than anything else. 🙂
Oh so heartbreaking, but at the same time a little more hopeful than his first book. 🙂

      Liked by 1 person

    1. Yeah I was more than pleased with the way March went for me. Well if you enjoyed the first two I hope you enjoy City of Glass as well Lauren, and it’s about time I pick up the series again as well.
Thanks, I hope you have a great April as well! 😀 ❤

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I will pick it up again, I think at the time, my mood went in a different direction and i didn’t want to ruin the series by forcing myself to read it 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Exactly! So I decided to put it down and come back to it when I was in the right mood. Especially because I’d been enjoying the series up until that point

        Liked by 1 person

  5. You definitely had a geat reading and blogging month in March, Beth! I so can’t wait to get around to The Night Circus after having read your review. And, of course, I will be going back and reading your ACOL review once I finish the series but I’m really glad it ended up living up to your expectations. Also, your haul for March is amazing – TBS and SOM, I love it! 🙈 I need to get the new covers in paperback for TBS soon.
I’m so happy to see some of Cassandra Clare’s books on your TBR for Apil! I can’t wait to see what you end up thinking of those. Same goes for Strange the Dreamer and Empire of a Thousand Skies. Both of those are on my TBR for this year and I’ve yet to see a review for either floating around the blogosphere. I hope you have an incredible April! 💕😊

    1. Thanks so much Melissa, yeah overall March was a huge success for me blogging wise, so here’s hoping April is as well. 🙂
I can’t wait for you to get around to The Night Circus either, you have to let me know what you think as soon as you’ve finished it. And the same goes with AGOS and ACOL as well! 😀
Yep, the US editions cost a lot but they’re so pretty! And of course I feel I needed the paperback covers of the new Bone Season cover designs.
Finally getting around to Clare’s books, I’ve heard some great things about them so I can’t wait to get started, same goes with Empress of a Thousand Skies and Strange the Dreamer.
Well in that case I hope you enjoy them when you get around to them as well.
Thanks Melissa, I hope you have an amazing April too! 😀 ❤

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I will definitely let you know when I finish each of them! Especially AGOS, I’m reading it really slowly and last night I almost looked ahead but then I was like “No! You can’t ruin this cliffhanger for yourself, Melissa!” 😂. I’m getting way too curious about this cliffhanger and wish I could read faster lol. But as I get further in the book I’m starting to get a feeling of what the cliffhanger is going to be. Ah, the pains of different editions – they cost so much but you want them anyway. That’s me with Lord of Shadows. I pre-ordered the Waterstones special edition because it’s gorgeous but the shipping is so much. And I feel like by the time the last TBS book is out we’ll both have a full shelf on our bookshelves just for TBS because of the hardbacks and then the new designs in paperback. 😂
Well I hope you enjoy all three of them! And I will definitely be keeping a lookout for your reviews.
        You’re welcome, Beth!! 💕😊

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I’m eagerly awaiting that news in that case, and yes do not look ahead in AGOS. Trust me it will be worth it when you get to the end and see what the cliffhanger actually is. It will be all the more shocking and leave you all the more desperate to get around to ACOL! 😀
Ohh, what do you think it is then?
I want them all, especially for my favourite series, and I guess I’m always going to be willing to pay the price for them no mater how expensive it is.
I feel the same way, TBS is a series where I will keep buying books no matter how many editions they release.
Same here, thanks Melissa! 😀 ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Well I have around 20% left in AGOS at the moment and every chapter with Holland has me thinking this cliffhanger involves him. I have a really bad feeling about this! And I’m surprised I haven’t looked ahead at all because of that. 😂
Same! I swear that’s the biggest change to my book buying habits since I started blogger. I want all the special editions now. I used to not pay attention but now I do lol.
Me too!! And you’re welcome, Beth!! 😁♥

      4. Ohh you’re nearly at the end and at the massive cliffhanger. Seriously I am so excited for you to finish this book it is unreal! I’m not saying anything but after you’ve read the cliffhanger you’ll have to let me know if any of your theories were correct, or close even. 🙂
It’s probably the same with me, but then again I loved the Shades of Magic series so much I would have brought any special edition that had been released! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      5. I’m going to reply to the rest of your comments once I finish writing my review but OH MY GOD I JUST FINISHED AGOS! AND I HAD TO LET YOU KNOW BECAUSE THE CLIFFHANGER! 😱 I’m seriously sitting here with my jaw dropped right now. And I really glad I waited until the last book was out before I started this series because ouch that had to be a terrible wait after that! I was so not expecting that! Okay maybe the whole part at the very end with Lila I kind of saw that coming but everything else I didn’t. I’m going to go write my review as fast as I can so that I can start ACOL ASAP. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      6. Yes Melissa I have been WAITING for this comment! Well kind of, basically I’ve been waiting for you to finish this book and oh I am so glad you have now.
Were you surprised by the cliffhanger or did you kind of see it coming?
Yeah you’re lucky in that respect. I read AGOS last February and had to wait a whole year for ACOL, it was insane and I guess you can see why it was my most anticipated read of this year right?
Yeah I saw the part about Lila as well, It was something that was kind of hinted about in the first books so I imagine most people would have guessed.
Yes, get started on ACOL as soon as possible. You don’t have to wait for the release so make the most of that feeling! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      7. I was completely surprised by some of it. I figured it has to do with Holland, Osaron, and Ojka just because of the little peeks into White London BUT the way it all played out I didn’t see that coming AT ALL! I was actually yelling at the book at one point and just like 😱😱😱.
I can definitely see why it was your most anticipated now. It was even worse than TMO’s cliffhanger or even Lord of Shadow’s cliffhanger (which I know you’ve not gotten to yet so I’m keeping my lips zipped lol).
But, yeah, the Lila part was the part I saw coming and the hints were pretty obvious so I agree about most people having guessed that. But I still got all excited about that part too! 😂
I haven’t started ACOL yet but I have it sitting on my Kindle to get started on it tonight. 😁

        Liked by 1 person

      8. I first read AGOS so long ago I can’t remember what I really thought about the cliff-hanger or what would end up coming. Given it was near the end of the book I knew something bad would happen when Kell left to White London but I would have never guess THAT! I think I yelled at my book as well.
Yeah this one definitely wins the award for worst cliffhanger to date, and that’s saying something considering the things we’ve read so far as well.
I almost feel like she used to hints about Lila to hide what she was planning to do with Kell, give us small clues to turn our heads on way while planning something like that in the other direction!
Seriously I can’t wait to see what you think of ACOL! It’s an amazing book! 😀 ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      9. Right? I figured something bad was going to happen since it was close to end but when Holland put the collar around Kell’s neck I was like NOOOOOOOO.
It really does. I couldn’t imagine having to wait a year for the next book. I feel like I would have gone into a slump.
It did seem that way. I was so focused on those hints about Lila that beyond knowing something bad was going to happen it hadn’t even crossed my mind. If so it was a great way to distracted readers for sure.
I’m nearing 20% into ACOL and I have to say that it might end up being my favorite of the three because I am loving it. I had to tear myself away from the book just to get on here because I didn’t want to stop reading. 😂
I’ve been worried about not having enough time to read The Night Circus before ACOWAR but at this rate I just might.

        Liked by 1 person

      10. Yes you kind of knew it would end on a cliffhanger but you never guess that would be the cliffhanger, and oh the wait to find out what happened to Kell and Rhy after that was insane, I just needed to know!
It’s actually quite a clever way to write, give the readers a small hint of something bigger they can easily guess so they don’t see the bigger reveal underneath it all. The ending completely took me by surprise for that reason alone!
Ohh that’s great to hear, ACOL is definitely my favourite and it gets so much better! I can’t wait for you to finish it so we can talk about that one as well. I just want to be able to talk about the whole series with you.
Well here’s hoping you do. The Night Circus is amazing, and after ACOL probably the kind of story you’ll need as well! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      11. Exactly, and I thought that knowing there was a cliffhanger would prepare me but nope. I can imagine!
Definitely a clever way to write. I wouldn’t mind more authors using a distraction like that because it really amped up the shock value of the cliffhanger.
Well hopefully I finish with it soon! At least by next week I’m hoping. Because I definitely can’t wait to talk with you about the whole series. But at the same time I don’t want it to end. 🙈

        Liked by 1 person

      12. Nothing could have really prepared you for that cliffhanger. At least knowing you could start the next book straight away helped right?
It worked in We Were Liars as well, I thought I could see the twist coming but in reality it was just a distraction and I ended up twice as surprised I think.
Yes I can’t wait for that either. I always love having more people to talk to about this series! 😀 ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      13. Definitely, knowing I could go straight from AGOS into ACOL helped big time.
I so need to read We Were Liars! I had a friend tell me about that book years ago but I wasn’t interested in it at the time so it’s just been sitting on my TBR since lol. Might be time to move it up my list. 😊

  6. I’m glad to see that you had a great March! 🙂
I’m really looking forward to hearing your opinion on both Strange the Dreamer and Empress of a Thousand Skies. I’m interested in both books and I have also heard many good things about them both so far, so I really hope that you enjoy them!
I really need to continue reading The Mortal Instruments, the next one I have to read is City of Glass but whenever I go to the book store they don’t have it. Soo hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on it soon! XD
Happy reading and I hope you have an amazing April as well! ❤

    1. Yeah it was a good month, thanks Anna. I’m currently reading Strange the Dreamer at the moment and really enjoying it as well, and I have high hopes for Empress of a Thousand Skies so I’m sure it’ll be good!
Well I’m sure you’ll be able to get your hands on a copy soon, I read City of Glass a few years ago now and enjoyed it. I’m hoping I’ll enjoy my re-read of the first three books this month.
Thanks so much Anna, I hope you have a great April as well! 😀 ❤

  7. Wow, Defy the Stars sounds sooo promising! I’ve heard of Claudia Gray before but I’ve been sort of hesitant to pick up any of her works because of what Liam said re: the problematic portrayal of sexual assault in her Million World series (is that what it’s called?). Perhaps Defy the Stars will be a different case.

Also super super jealous at how pretty the Shades of Magic series look in hardcover. I’ve been wanting to get them for myself but I haven’t had the chance yet but OMG, totally living vicariously through your photo at the moment. They just look so beautiful!

Hope you have a fabulous April, Beth. 🤗

    1. It’s a great book, and yeah unlike her other series I didn’t notice anything controversial in it that spoilt my enjoyment (like the sexual assault in Million Worlds). I think Defy the Stars is a different case, I thought it was a great book.
Ha, yeah finally bit the bullet and spent a lot of money on the US hardcover editions but oh it’s so worth it. They’re so pretty!
Thanks Reg, I hope you have a great April as well. 😀 ❤

      1. It definitely sounds promising! I’ll have to keep an eye out for when that comes out.

Oh god I need to bite that bullet too and just get me those US hardcovers. That can be like a present from me to me or something HAHA. They’re so beautiful. ❤

      2. Well if you do pick it up I hope you end up enjoying it as much as I did. 🙂
Yes, do it, trust me when you have them in your hands it will be worth it, no matter how much money you may have spent on them! 😀 ❤

  8. Seeing how much you enjoyed Zeroes has made me want to bump it up my TBR! I’ve also got to hurry up and read The Night Circus! I’m quite interested in Defy the Stars so it’s really good to see that it had great sci-fi elements! Love your haul too 😍 That copy of Strange the Dreamer with the blue pages looks incredible.

    1. Oh that’s great to hear Lauren, I really hope you enjoy it. Although there are a few issues it’s a good series overall.
And yes you definitely need to pick up The Night Circus, it’s such an amazing book and I’m sure you’ll love it! 🙂 Same goes with Defy the Stars as well.
Oh Strange the Dreamer is one of the most gorgeous books I have on my shelves at the moment, and from what I’ve read so far the story is just as amazing! 😀 ❤

  9. It’s so great you managed to stick to your TBR for the month! I never do these because I know I will never stick to it and I’m kind of a mood reader at times 🙂
Will this be your first time reading City of Bones?
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about Strange the Dreamer, I keep hearing fantastic things about that book 🙂

    1. Yeah I almost feel this was more a flunk than anything but still it’s kind of an acheivement for me because I’m a mood reader as well.
Nope, second time reading City of Bones but I do need to re-read it before starting on the books I haven’t read because I have no idea what happened. Have you read it Marie?
I’ve been hearing fantastic things as well, and from what I’ve read so far I can see why everyone’s raving about it! 😀

      1. I only read City of Bones, a whiiiiiiiiiiile ago, I can’t remember anything, really. I keep wondering whether or not I should keep on with this series.

    1. Well hopefully I’ll be able to post my reviews soon in that case. The Ship Beyond Time was good though, and I’ve loved what I’ve read of Strange the Dreamer so far!
I hope you manage to get through all the books on your to-read list for this month Ellie, and I hope you end up really enjoying them as well! 😀

  10. That Shwab’s hardcover trilogy though. I plan on getting that exact edition when I get around to reading that series; so beautiful and minimalist! This was definitely a huge and great month for you! Looks like you’re finally going to try Clare’s books this month! Hope they turn out to be awesome; looking forward to reading your thoughts on them! Hope you have an amazing month of April, Beth!! 😀

    1. Yep, it was the US edition that first caught my eye, and given it’s probably my all-time favourite series I figured it was worth the shipping costs all the way from the US! 😀
Oh definitely a huge month, I’m hoping April will be a little quieter in that respect. Finally getting around to Clare’s books after so long, and yeah I hope so too.
      Thanks Lashaan! 😀

  11. Wow, I wish I could redesign like you!
Did you really want the US covers compared to the U.K. ones? I think the ADSOM series has great U.K. covers! I don’t know about The Girl From Everywhere: I think our covers are a little better in that instance. How do you feel about the Laini Taylor UK cover? Bc I kinda like it compared to ours. I really want to own that one.
I have some definite book mail to open myself, but since I have run out of room on my bookshelf, I am having to find new places to stash some of the older faves and start making room for the new pretty ones. I really always knew I would at least need two bookcases…I just knew it would be hard enough to convince my mom to get one.
Do you think it saves more room to stack them versus having them vertically? I’m trying to make the most of my space but I’m not specially inclined.

    1. Thanks Stephanie.
And actually I do have the UK covers for the Shades of Magic series, I just wanted both because it’s my all-time favourite series, I loved the US covers, and why not really. With The Girl From Everywhere I’ve only got the US covers because yeah I really do prefer those ones. Strange the Dreamer I actually prefer the UK edition, but the US one is pretty as well.
Oh well I hope you manage to get another bookcase soon then, and if not I hope you manage to find somewhere safe to store your older favourites. Book mail is always fun though, will you be doing a book haul of all you packages?
I think depending on the height of your shelves yeah it probably does save more space to stack them vertically. Maybe do some tests and see what works, I dunno. 🙂

      1. I may have to do that. If I did a book haul post, I think people would come after me with pitchforks. I put them on my Instagram but that’s all. I win a lot of giveaways on Twitter and do some booksfortrade so I get a lot of mail. But I will post every new one from the mail on my Instagram if you’re on there.
There’s a shelf that I might move to make more room on top of a specific shelf. I have never thought of doing vertical shelves…but it seems like the hardcovers would take up less room that way. I did empty out a drawer and a shelf in my cabinet for extras so that I could have only the top books on the shelf…but those will fill up quick. My mom will come back from Florida and kill me if I don’t hide the books though, lol.

      2. I love seeing book hauls so I’d be more likely to come after you with a pitchfork if you didn’t post one! 😀 It’s great you manage to win giveaways, do you enter a lot or are you just really lucky, or both?
I may have to start re-arranging my bookshelves again because I am slowly running out of room on them, and I literally cannot get another one because there is no more room for it. Well good luck finding spaces for them all before your mum comes home then! 🙂
