Top Ten Tuesday: Top Five Authors I’ve Met Top Five Authors I Want to Meet

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Five Authors I’ve Met Top Five Authors I Want to Meet.

Most authors I’ve met were at YALC last year, and I am looking forwards to going again this year and meeting even more. You never know some of the authors on the second half of my list this week may be attending. In the end though it feels like the ten authors in this list (five of whom I still want to meet) aren’t enough to fully capture how many authors I still want to meet one day.

Top Five Authors I’ve Met

V.E. Schwab

When I saw V.E. Schwab was going to be at YALC 2016 it was all I needed to see to convince me to buy a ticket. She’s one of my auto-buy authors as well as the author of one of my all-time favourite series so it was amazing getting to meet her and see her talk about her work in the panels.

Samantha Shannon

I’ve been lucky enough to see Samantha Shannon twice, once at YALC 2016 and once earlier this month when she was touring The Song Rising. The Bone Season is another of my favourite series and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of talking/hearing about it.

Stephanie Garber

Caraval was one of my most anticipated releases of this year, and based on the hype it was plenty of other people’s as well. Luckily for me the book more than lived up to the hype so when I saw Stephanie Garber would be in London as part of her Caraval book tour I jumped at the chance to go.

Maggie Stiefvater

While I haven’t read all of Maggie Stiefvater’s releases, and I’m not that much of a fan of her Wolves of Mercy Falls series, I adore her Raven Cycle books. She was one of the authors who contributed to my decision to attend YALC 2016, and again it was amazing getting to meet her.

Patrick Ness

When I met Patrick Ness I hadn’t read all of his books, so I was unaware of how amazing his Chaos Walking trilogy is. However it was still great meeting him and seeing his YALC panel on A Monster Calls, and now I have read all his releases I’m even more glad I got the chance to meet him.

Top Five Authors I Want to Meet

Marissa Meyer

When it comes to fairytale retellings Marissa Meyer has authored the best of the best books. Her Lunar Chronicles series is one of my all-time favourites and I adored Heartless as well. Meeting her would be beyond amazing, and I hope one day I have the chance to.

Leigh Bardugo

Leigh Bardugo was actually touring in London last year, but I missed seeing her and I am so disappointed I did. I enjoyed her Grisha trilogy and loved her Six of Crows duology. Anything she writes is bound to be a favourite of mine and if she’s ever in London again I’ll jump at the chance to meet her.

Sarah J. Maas

Again Sarah J. Maas is an author who was touring in London late last year, and an author I missed out on meeting. After a slow start I fell in love with both her Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses series so getting to meet her one day would be a great experience.

Rainbow Rowell

Again again I missed out on seeing Rainbow Rowell when she was in London late last year, at the same event as Leigh Bardugo actually. If I had a time machine I would go back and change that but unfortunately I’m going to have to wait until she’s next in London, which hopefully will happen one day.

J.K. Rowling

I feel this is an incredibly obvious choice but in my opinion this wouldn’t be an official list of authors I want to meet if J.K. Rowling wasn’t on it. Harry Potter was the book that started my love of reading, and meeting J.K. Rowling, even if it was only for a short while, would be a dream come true.

While I am jelly you got to meet both Schwab and Ness, I’ll have to throw that jelly away since I’ve met Bardugo and saw Rowell from far (no way was I going to do that infinitely long line to meet her; never read anything from her too). 😀 😀 Hope you get the chance to meet those five amazing authors though, especialy Rowling. Gosh, that would be epic!! :O

    1. Oh meeting Bardugo, and seeing Rowell, must have been amazing! And I’m sure you’ll get to meet Schwab and Ness someday soon as well.
      I’d love to have the chance to meet them all. I’m kind of hoping some of them will be at YALC this year, that would be amazing.
      Yeah meeting Rowling would literally be a dream come true, not sure if it would ever happen though. 🙂

  6. You know how jealous I am that you’ve gotten to meet Samantha Shannon! I want to meet her so bad. I have a feeling that I would end up asking her way too many questions though 😂. Either that or I wouldn’t be able to talk at all because when I met Colleen Hoover I completely failed at speaking, I was too in awe. Also, that’s so awesome that you’ve met V.E. Schwab! She was actually here before ACOL released and I remember thinking about wanting to go but didn’t. Now I wish I would have. And I’m with you on Leigh Bardugo, SJM, Rainbow Rowell, and J.K. Rowling. It would be amazing to meet them! Great picks for this, Beth! 😊♥

    1. I really really hope you manage to meet her one day Melissa. The events I’ve seen her at have been amazing and it’s great getting to hear her talk about her books as well. I was seriously in awe but she’s so nice it’s hard to get tongue tied around her. 🙂
      Yes, V.E. Schwab is one of my favourite authors so I was so so glad I got to meet her I’ kind of hoping she’ll be at YALC again this year.
      And Leigh Bardugo, SJM, Rainbow Rowell, and J.K. Rowling would be amazing as well, maybe one or more will be at YALC as well. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! 🙂

      1. I do too. Whenever TBS4 is released she so needs to have a stop in Houston if she does a tour in America again. I can just imagine myself bursting with TBS questions and writing questions. 🙈
        I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you! And you will so have to tell me how YALC goes this year. You’re gonna do another post like last year, right? I’m living vicariously through you since we never have big events like that near where I live. 😂

      2. Just save up all your questions until you get a chance to meet her. I’m sure she’ll come near to you someday and then you’ll be able to ask her all about them.
        They’ve actually released the first few names for YALC. Laini Taylor is going to be there which I am so so so excited about, and so is V.E. Schwab again. It’s going to be amazing! But yeah I’ll be doing another post like last year. 🙂

    1. Oh Caraval was amazing, it was my top read of this year for a while so when I saw she was coming to London I needed to go and see her.
      Maggie Stiefvater was amazing to meet, and I can see why Maas and Rowling made your list. They’re both amazing authors aren’t they?

  8. I’m super jealous that you got to meet both Victoria Schwab and Patrick Ness! Both of them are some of my favourite authors and I would love to meet them. It must have been an amazing experience! 😀
    I would love to meet both Leigh Bardugo and J. K. Rowling as well. Bardugo is one of the authors I would have sooo many questions for (though I don’t think I would be able to ask them, as I’m awkward with meeting people). And I think Rowling is an obvious choice.

    1. It was definitely an amazing experience, there were so many highlights to the weekend I was at YALC but meeting all the authors I got to meet and getting my books signed was definitely one of them!
      I really really hope I get to meet Leigh Bardugo one day, I’m keeping my fingers crossed, and if I get to meet J.K. Rowling that would honestly be a dream come true, like seriously.

    1. Most of these were authors I met at YALC last year, which was obviously amazing, and I think living near London gives me a lot of opportunities meet authors when they tour as well (they all seem to stop off at London).
      I think everyone is a babbling mess at first when they meet their favourite authors. I know I was! 🙂

  11. The authors you have met make up a pretty impressive list! I’ve only ever met local authors, which is still super cool and fun. I’d love to meet Maggie Stiefvater. She seems like she would be lovely. And just to say hi to JK Rowling would be nice!

    1. Most of the authors I’ve met came from YALC last year which was such an incredible and amazing experience. With the others I’m just lucky enough to live near enough to London because it’s where most of them come when they tour the UK.
      Meeting any author is fun in my opinion! 🙂
      She was really lovely, and same. Any meeting, no matter how long, with JK Rowling would be great! 😀

      1. Makes sense since it is the big city, for me it’s Toronto and I do live pretty close to that city too, it’s just getting there can be tiresome.
        I’m sure it is fun, one day I’ll have to meet someone!

      5. Haha yeah I feel you, I’ve been to London, the subway seems like it would be 100% faster. That was one thing I wanted to take home with me, your underground is well organized, compared to ours! 😛

    1. If you ever get an opportunity to meet an author it’s well worth going. All the events I’ve been to have been amazing! 🙂
      Most of these are authors I’ve met at YALC, but living near London does seem to give me a lot of opportunities to meet authors like the ones I have so far. 🙂

  13. I’d love to meet most of these authors! Especially V E Schwab and Rainbow Rowell. This post has also convinced me that I need to go to YALC one year.

    The authors I’ve met are John Green (that was quite a few years ago), Andrzej Sapkowski and Melinda Salisbury (who was so lovely!).

    1. Rainbow Rowell is an author I’d love to meet one day for sure, and V.E. Schwab was so lovely so if you do get a chance to meet her jump at it! 😀
      Also definitely try and get to YALC one year. Last year was probably the best weekend of my life and I can’t wait to go again this year. There were so many amazing authors there and I’m looking forwards to seeing who’ll be there this year. They haven’t gotten around to announcing anything yet. 🙂

      2. See now you’ve mentioned that I’m even more hopeful she’ll be at YALC again.
        I saw on Twitter they’re going to do an announcement tomorrow at 11am. Not sure if it will be on the website of just on Twitter, or even how many authors it will be but it’s a start at least! 🙂

    1. Definitely awesome. V.E. Schwab was the whole reason I got my YALC ticket in the first place, and it was great getting to talk to Maggie Stiefvater about her books as well. 🙂
      I’d be exactly the same. If I got to meet JK Rowling but then could never meet another author ever again I’d be all right with that! 😀

  16. Oh my gosh, I’m so jealous that you’ve met Patrick Ness, I love him so much! (I would also die to meet Marissa Meyer)
    The problem with being a booknerd in Australia is that authors almost NEVER come here. Like, my favourite author will announce an “international tour” …that only goes to Europe and practically every city in America.

    1. He was amazing to meet in person, and there were plenty of other people who were just as excited to see him at YALC too. At the moment Marissa Meyer is probably number one on my list of most anticipated authors I want to meet. That would be amazing.
      Oh that is a shame but yeah I don’t tend to see authors going to Australia much now I think about it. Still I hope one day one of your favourite authors will come your way, or you’ll get to go and meet them somewhere. 🙂

  18. I actually have met Sarah J. Maas, and she is wonderful and sweet and kind. I hope you get the chance to meet her! 😍 I also met V.E. Schwab, and she was terrific to talk to as well and oh so sweet. It was awesome to talk to her about her books in person!

    I have Marissa Meyer and Leigh Bardugo on my list as well! They’re going to be at Bookcon this year, so I’m hoping to finally meet them! ❤ Stephanie Garber will be there too, and I’d absolutely love to meet her if I got the chance! J.K. Rowling is obvious as well, but it makes me wonder if anyone’s ever met her? She seems like Suzanne Collins, who doesn’t like being in the spotlight as well/doesn’t do author signings or anything.

    1. Oh that’s great to hear, and I’m glad you had a great time meeting her. I’m hoping she comes back to London for the release of the last ACOTAR book or the last ToG book. If she does I’ll definitely be getting tickets! 😀
      And yeah V.E. Schwab was amazing to meet in person. I’d love to get to see her again one day, especially now ACOL has been released and I’ve read it.
      Oh wow that’s amazing that you’re going to Bookcon. I hope you have a wonderful time but it sounds like plenty of amazing authors are going to be there so I’m sure you will!
      Yeah I haven’t really heard of anyone meeting JK Rowling, or of her doing any author events. Obviously it would be amazing to meet her but part of me doubts I ever will.

  19. The only author I’ve met was Paul Jennings, he was really nice. I was so young then! We’d seen a funny play adaption of one of his novels.

    I don’t think I’d want to meet any authors, personally. I kind of like having a bit of mystery about who’s writing the novels so that I’m not influenced by the person so much as their writing. Same with any celebrity, I have no desire to meet any of them because I feel like they’re just regular people with irregular jobs. The celebs I have met in my life have been so… average. I just don’t feel any appeal in it.

    I’d love to go to some kind of book convention, though, but I’m not aware of any near me 😦

    1. I haven’t heard of Paul Jennings but it’s great he was so nice, and it’s obviously a memory that’s stayed with you for quite a while it seems like.
      Oh see I’m the opposite. I love learning more about the authors who’ve written my favourite books. I get where you’re coming from wanting to keep part of it a mystery though. 🙂 I’m the same when it comes to celebrities, then again that could be just because there are no celebrities I like as much as I do authors you know?
      Conventions are massive fun, I hope someday you manage to get to one. Whatever one it is it would be a brilliant experience. 🙂

  21. I would love to meet Maggie Stiefvator! I got to see Leigh Bardugo and Rainbow Rowell when they were touring together last year and I had so much fun, definitely worth trying to go next time they come over!
