Book Scavenger Hunt Tag

This is actually the second time I’ve taken part in the Book Scavenger Hunt Tag, but I had so much fun the first time around that when I was tagged again I couldn’t wait to jump back in for a second time. I love scavenger hunts, I’ve taken part in one of two over the years, and I love books so this tag is combining two of my favourite things. Plus it gives me a chance to showcase more books and bookish goodies currently sitting on my bookshelves.

I was tagged by Fadwa at Word Wonders. Thanks so much for the tag Fadwa, I had a lot of fun with this one and I hope you enjoyed reading my answers as much. Also if anyone wants to check out my first go at the Book Scavenger Hunt Tag you can do so here.

Book Scavenger Hunt Tag

Find…

…A Book with the Letter Z in the Title or Authors Name

Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti

book-scavenger-hunt-1-1

This was a recent buy for me, and a lucky one too when you consider that the last time I took part in the Book Scavenger Hunt Tag I used the only other book on my shelves with a Z in the title or authors name. I’ve read Zeroes once before, and need to re-read it soon, but I’ve yet to get started on Swarm.

…A Classic

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

book-scavenger-hunt-2

I’m not too sure if The Princess Bride can be classed as a ‘Classic Novel’, in my mind it can but that could be because it’s the only book on my shelves that can apply for this question. Either way this is a favourite of mine, and one I need to get around to re-reading soon as well.

…The Oldest Book on Your Shelves

Pure Dead Brilliant by Debi Gliori

book-scavenger-hunt-3

Despite this being the third book in the series it was actually the first I ended up buying. This was simply because I ‘won’ this book while in high school back in 2004, I was given a Waterstones voucher and there was something about this hardcover edition that caught my eye. I later brought the first two in the series and, asides from the Harry Potter books, this is the oldest book on my shelves.

…A Book with a Key on the Cover

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

book-scavenger-hunt-4

Now looking at the cover for this book you may be wondering where the key is but if you look closely, just to the left of the glove by the birds foot, you’ll see a small key.

book-scavenger-hunt-5

Now you may be wondering how I possibly spotted that, or how desperate I was to find a book that had a key on the cover that I spotted this. The answer is I’m not sure, and really really desperate. I have no other book on my shelves with a key on, and before spotting this I was tempted to use a book that had a door on the cover because doors and keys are kind of connected aren’t they?

…Something on Your Shelves which isn’t a Book

‘Nessie’

book-scavenger-hunt-6

When my friend and I were in Edinburgh over Easter last year we saw these figurines everywhere, not surprising when you consider the Loch Ness monster is pretty famous around those parts, so when we went to the Loch Ness itself of course I had to pick one up. At the moment Nessie sits on my books and honestly it was probably the best purchase I made that holiday.

…A Book with an Animal on the Cover

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

book-scavenger-hunt-7

This has got to be one of my all-time favourite series so I had to include it somewhere in this tag. The covers for both books are beyond gorgeous, I just love how the birds wings/tail feathers create buildings at the bottom of each cover. Luckily the stories inside were just as amazing as the covers were, and I can’t wait to see where Leigh Bardugo takes the Grisha world next.

…A Book with a Girl on the Cover

RoseBlood by A.G. Howard

book-scavenger-hunt-8

When I first took part in the Book Scavenger Hunt Tag I picked A.G. Howard’s Splintered series for this question, so it seemed only fitting that this time around I picked RoseBlood. Granted I wasn’t a massive fan of this book, it didn’t meet the expectations I had for it to say the least, but it has a gorgeous cover similar to the Splintered books.

…A Non YA Book

Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor

book-scavenger-hunt-9

I am a huge fan of the Welcome to Night Vale podcasts. I have them all on my iPod and have even been to a couple of the live shows when they were touring in London, so when I discovered a novel was being released it went to the top of my to-read and to-buy lists. Welcome to Night Vale was exactly what I expected, a taste of the craziness of Night Vale in the form of a book.

…A Book with Stars on the Cover

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

book-scavenger-hunt-10

This wasn’t even the first book that came to mind for this question, but when I saw it on my shelves I knew I just had to include it. The cover is beyond stunning and let’s be honest it shows so many stars it was really the perfect answer. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is an amazing book, and one I would highly recommend to any sci-fi fans out there who’ve yet to pick it up.

…A Book with Golden Letters

Ink by Alice Broadway

book-scavenger-hunt-11

When I saw this book in Waterstones it was an instant cover buy, and my photo really doesn’t do it justice because this is definitely one of the most gorgeous books I own. The whole cover, bar the silhouette of the girl in the bottom left corner, is done in gold foil and it creates a stunning effect. Even if the book itself isn’t good I’ll still love having this on my shelves.

  1. I love your photos so much 😍

I was so obsessed with Welcome To Night Vale but then I fell waaaay behind. I really need to catch up because I miss it so much. It’s so cool that you went to some of the live shows!

I also love your little Loch Ness monster ornament, and the Ink book looks stunning!

    1. Thanks so much Lauren. 😀
Oh I’m way behind on Welcome to Night Vale as well, I guess I’ll have a fun day at work ahead of me when I pretty much binge listen to all the episodes I missed! And yeah the live shows were an amazing experience.
      Thanks. 🙂

  2. This tag seems like tons of fun! I’ve actually never read The Princess Bride but i’ve watched the movie several times over haha. Great film. GREAT film. And my god, what a great eye you have there to spot that key on the Nevernight cover LOL. That Nessie figurine is so cute and always gotta mention Six of Crows! The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet sounds pretty interesting and the cover is simply gorgeous! I may have to add that one to the TBR 😀 Fun post, Beth!

    1. Oh it was definitely so much fun, I always love taking part in this one. It’s a brilliant film, the book’s good as well but it’s always the film that sticks more in my mind you know?
I feel it was more luck than anything but by that point I was desperate to find a book with a key on the cover! 😀
Thanks, and yeah The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet is actually an amazing story, sci-fi unlike any other sci-fi book I’ve read but a beautiful story all the same. I hope you end up enjoying it if you do pick it up Azia. 🙂

      1. I’d definitely agree with that. Sometime’s I wish it was the other way around, but it’s the visuals that really stick with you.
Haha, well your desperation led you to a great discovery! 😀
Oh yay! I’m always on the lookout for a new sci-fi-fi book. That makes it all the more exciting! I hope I enjoy it, too! Thanks Beth XD

      2. Well yeah, plus in the case of The Princess Bride I found it easier to follow the film than I did the book in some places.
        It certainly did.
If I could only recommend one sci-fi book to everyone it would be this one. Honestly there aren’t enough words to describe how much I loved it! 😀
        That’s all right. 🙂 ❤

  3. This is such a cool tag! Haha the book with the key was like playing I Spy! 😛 I probably would have found it… eventually… also if I wasn’t at work and I had my laptop! 😛
Nessie is adorable that is one of the coolest things to have on your bookshelf! 😀

    1. Yeah I had a lot of fun with this one! 🙂 It kind of was like I Spy, it was actually an accident I even found it but at least I then had an answer for that question. 😀
I saw Nessie in the shops and knew I had to have it, definitely one of the best things on my bookshelves (other than all the books of course!) 😀

  4. I also already did that one but it’d be fun to do it again with different books! The fun this about this post is that I haven’t read any of those books xD I do have Six of Crows in my wishlist but I discovered new books, so thanks!!

    1. It was a lot of fun to take part in this one again, kind of hard at the same time though because there is maybe one book I own with a key on it, and only two with a letter Z in the name somewhere. I’m running out of possible options.
Well most of these I’d definitely recommend, especially Six of Crows, that’s probably my favourite book that I featured on this tag. 🙂

  5. Oh yes, Zeroes! I’ve read Swarm as well, but I hadn’t re-read Zeroes before I picked it up and I have terrible memory so I had a hard time adjusting at first haha. 😂 But Six of Crowssssss one of my precious loves!! 😍❤ I love the covers and the series so much. 100% agree on that pick aha. Also props to you for the Nevernight key! I would’ve never been able to spot that.
Ink has such a beautiful cover! I want it now. 😍 Thanks so much for the tag! I can’t guarantee when I’ll get around to it but it seems like a lot of fun. ❤❤

    1. I just finished Swarm today and loved it, I re-read Zeroes over the weekend actually which I think helped starting the second book in the series! 🙂
Six of Crows is amazing, I kind of knew I had to feature that one in this tag somewhere. The covers being amazing is kind of an added bonus.
Ha, yeah that was more a happy accident than anything else, but at least I eventually had an answer for that question! 😀
Ink was pure cover buy for me, I still don’t really have much of an idea on what it’s about.
That’s all right, and don’t worry my tags are normally a long time in the works. I’ll be looking forwards to seeing what you do pick for this one though. 🙂 ❤

      1. Oh that’s great! In hindsight I really should’ve re-read Zeroes before picking up Swarm as well haha. That’s great to hear!
Right? When you love a book so much you find a way to sneak it in everywhere because it’s that good! 😉😍 Ooh yes the covers are so amazing I love them.
Haha yes, lucky for that one!
I don’t blame you on that aha the cover is stunning.
Okay good haha. 😊 I’m subconsciously now going through my bookshelves to see if there is anything that would work for these…. 😂❤

      2. Normally I don’t re-read books before picking up the next in the series, Zeroes was an exception just because I hadn’t reviewed it on this blog and couldn’t remember much about what happened. 🙂
You’ll find my favourite books are pretty constant answers in some of my tags! 😀
I hope you manage to find enough books for all the questions, if not you can subtly adjust them. I couldn’t find a book with a key on for the first time I took part in this tag so I featured on with a lock, because the two go together don’t they? 🙂 ❤

  6. I love this tag! It’s so unique and I might have to save it to my list so that I can do it soon since I’ve been wanting to do a creative type of tag rather than a question answer one lately. That cover for Ink by Alice Broadway is so gorgeous! It sucks that the book itself isn’t good but I had a feeling I would have ended up buying it just for the cover too so that I could stare at it 😂😂. Also, awww on the Nessie figure! I love that, it’s so cute. This is a great post, Beth. I loved reading it and seeing pictures of your books. 😊💕

    1. Oh yeah this is such a fun one to take part in, and definitely. I’d love to see what you come up with for this Melissa! 😀 ❤
I haven't actually read Ink yet, not sure what the reviews are either, but even if it is terrible the fact that it has a gorgeous cover is more than enough to make up for it in my opinion.
Ha, yeah the second I saw that Nessie figurine I knew I had to have, definitely one of the best things on my bookshelves, other than all the books of course! 😀
Thanks so much Melissa. 🙂 ❤

      1. I’ll definitely have to do it sometime this month. I’ve been trying to do at least one tag a month. Though I honestly need to up it to one a week because I’ve had some waiting since I first started blogging. 🙈😂
Oh okay! Yeah, I agree with you about how gorgeous the cover is making up for it if it isn’t a good book though.
        You’re welcome, Beth!! 😊💕

  7. I so want to read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet! I’ve heard nothing but great things.

Also in love with the Nessie figurine. When I was in Gozo I bought something that Nessie reminded me of, it’s a mushroom made from what they call Gozo Glass. Reminded me of Alice in Wonderland (I’m a Disney cartoon movie fan, not so much the book, though I do love that as well).

Ink looks absolutely beautiful! I want to buy a copy just to spruce up my shelves haha.

    1. Oh it’s an amazing book, I don’t read a lot of sci-fi or anything but this is one of my all-time favourites. It’s just a beautiful story.
As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it, and ohh that sounds really nice. I’m a huge Alice in Wonderland fan as well, both the Disney move and the book actually. 🙂
I haven’t read Ink yet but even if the book isn’t good I’m not gonna regret having that cover on my shelves! 😀

  8. Good job on spotting the key on Nevernight, I don’t think I ever noticed it lol. That Nessie figurine is awesome, I want one! The cover of Ink is just beautiful, I want it now just to have on my bookshelf. Awesome post 🙂

    1. Thanks, I think it was more a lucky find than anything else but like I said I was desperate. 🙂
It’s pretty much the best thing on my bookshelves, other than the books of course, and oh yes Ink is a gorgeous book. Even if the story isn’t great that’s one book I’m never going to regret buying.
      Thanks so much. 🙂
