Following a bloody battle against foes on every side, Paige Mahoney has risen to the dangerous position of Underqueen, ruling over London’s criminal population.

But, having turned her back on Jaxon Hall and with vengeful enemies still at large, the task of stabilizing the fractured underworld has never seemed so challenging.

Little does Paige know that her reign may be cut short by the introduction of Senshield, a deadly technology that spells doom for the clairvoyant community and the world as they know it…

My Thoughts On…

…The Plot

“Some people believe that if they keep their heads down and stick to their safe routine and trust that nothing bad will befall them, then it won’t. They see things happening to others, but they think they’re different; they’re special; it could never happen to them.”

Paige has won the Scrimmage and is now the Underqueen of the syndicate, however her reign is not going to be easy. After betraying Jaxon in the Scrimmage plenty of the order don’t see her as the rightful leader, and as she struggles to turn the syndicate into an army she is forced to make some difficult decisions to keep control over the Unnatural Assembly.

However the syndicate are the least of her problems. Jaxon is now working with Nashira, and has revealed that he was the traitor who derailed the first Ranthen rebellion. Paige is now not only going up against Nashira but also Jaxon, a man who knows her and her abilities better than anyone else, and with Terebell questioning where her loyalties lie Paige finds herself fighting a battle on too many sides.

Before dealing with Jaxon and Nashira, before dealing with Terebell and the Ranthen, there is a more dire threat on the horizon; the Senshield. The Scion have started using the Senshield in London and voyants in the first three orders can no longer walk the streets for fear of being discovered and arrested by Scion. When Paige runs headfirst towards a possible solution only to find a trap waiting for her she makes things worse for her people and faces dissention in the ranks.

“We should have never let you have the crown. This wouldn’t have happened under Binder!”
Others chimed in with their agreements. My commanders were at the back of the gathering, watching tensely, but I’d told them not to leap to my defence. I needed to handle this on my own.

Knowing that she needs to make the voyants of London safe before they can properly fight back Paige knows she needs to take down the source of the Senshields’ power, a time sensitive mission that becomes all the more urgent after the discovery that the portable scanners are closer to being ready than anyone thought. Paige’s mission takes her all over the country – from London, to Manchester to Edinburgh – searching for a solution before the situation in London becomes too deadly, but with ScionIDE and Hildred Vance being brought in to maintain control it may already be too late.

The Song Rising was one of my most anticipated releases of this year. After the way The Mime Order ended I was excited to see where Samantha Shannon would take the story, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. From the very first page there was action, tension and enough twists to keep me hooked, a trend that carried on until the ending. The Bone Season series has been one that I have constantly been surprised by, every time I think I know where the story is going it turns in a different direction and creates a bigger world for us as readers to explore.

…The Characters

“You have risen from the ashes before. The only way to survive,” he said, “is to believe you always will.”

Paige has taken control of the syndicate and now she is Underqueen she’s determined not to make the same mistakes that Hector did. She wants to turn them into an army, to fight back against Nashira and Scion but it seems like she can’t get a handle on her people. Half of them think Jaxon should be the Underlord, their rightful leader given Paige betrayed him in the Scrimmage. It becomes  a battle for Paige to make either what she believes are the right decisions or the decisions that will keep her people happy.

The development Paige has gone through since the first book is amazing. The Paige we met in The Bone Season is nothing like the Paige we now see in The Song Rising. She embraces her role as Underqueen and leader of the voyants, and despite the fact that she makes some very deadly mistakes she learns from them and tries in vain to make things right again. Paige is still determined to prove her worth, rushing into danger to prove to the voyants she is a leader who takes action, but she is smart enough to know when to back down as well.

“You can convince yourself that you are nothing like me. Tell yourself you are the black to my white, the queen that stood on the right side of the board. But one day, you will be faced with a choice, as we all are. On day you will have to choose between your own desires, your own darkest impulses, and what you know to be right…and it will harden you.”

Despite now being the Underqueen Paige still feels like a puppet. Terebell and the rest of the Ranthen hold a lot of power over her after supporting her in her journey to become Underqueen. Terebell is constantly demanding Paige prove herself, still believing her loyalty is to Jaxon, the traitor, despite Paige assuring them otherwise.

The relationship between Paige and Jaxon is always an interesting one to read. Paige cut all ties with Jaxon when she turned against him, and split the Seven Seals down the middle, and despite Jaxon now working with Nashira his motivations are still hard to read. He seems loyal to the Rephaim but he risked his life saving Paige from Sheol I in the first book. Jaxon sees Paige as his Dreamwalker, a view shared by plenty of people both among the syndicate and the Ranthen despite everything Paige says to the contrary, and his words still hold a lot of sway over Paige’s thoughts.

“Hiding what I feel for you, being forced to do nothing to support you in public—this is the price I pay for change. And we must pay a price.”

Warden is still on Paige’s side, but with Terebell and the other Ranthen around it is dangerous for them to be too familiar with one another. Warden’s loyalty needs to be to Terebell and the Ranthen first, knowing that if they discover his and Paige’s relationship the support Paige has from the Ranthen will vanish. The romance between Warden and Paige is not easy, it never has been, but in The Song Rising it seems to get harder for them to be with one another. Both are being torn in different directions; Paige in the direction of the syndicate and Warden in the direction of Ranthen.

…The Setting

“Panic. I remembered the taste of it, the smell of it, like it was yesterday. The crowd jostled and shoved. A wave of movement undulated from one end of the street to the other, passing from person to person, knocking them back like dominoes in a line.”

Samantha Shannon created an amazing world in The Bone Season and The Mime Order, but in The Song Rising she expands on it. Before we only saw what the situation was like for the voyants in London; we learnt about their history alongside the history of the Ranthen and the Rephaite. Now that has been established Samantha Shannon introduces new players and new cities. We travel with Paige to Manchester, where the threat of Scion seems far away and where the Scuttling Queen is determined to bury her head in the sand like Hector did, and to Edinburgh, where the rebellion was a powder keg ready to explode. Paige and Nick, alongside other voyants, have seen what happens when ScionIDE and Vance take control of a country and squash a rebellion and that is a threat that is creeping ever closer in The Song Rising with the introduction of the Senshield.

The Song Rising was amazing. I was constantly trying to guess what would happen next only to have the story go in a completely different and unexpected direction. I was on the edge of my seat and now I’ve finished all I can say is that I need the fourth book.

I can’t wait to see where Samantha Shannon takes the fourth book of the series, but wherever it goes I’m sure it will be an unforgettable read.

What did you think of The Song Rising? Was it a favourite of yours or could you just not get into the story? Let me know.

  1. I certainly need to begin this series! Even though I’ve read several mixed reviews on the first book, I’ve heard the story improves in the next two books. I’m so glad you enjoyed this one so much, Beth! It makes me want to read it so badly 😀

    1. This is a series I’d recommend to pretty much everyone and anyone. Talking to another blogger though I feel like I should warn you it’s quite heavy in terms of the world-building, especially at the beginning, but if you can get past that it’s a wonderful series.
This book was the best of the lot in my opinion, and there’s still four others to come so who knows where the series could take us by the end! 😀
If you do pick this up Azia I really hope you enjoy it, it will be great to have some other people to talk to about this series! 😀 ❤

      1. Okay! That’s really good to know. I love work-building that is spread across the entirety of the book rather than dumped into the first few pages. But I think I can work through that.
And wow! That’s a lot of books. I better start catching up soon haha 😀 I’d love to fangirl about it with someone ❤

      2. There’s still world-building in the rest of the book, and a good amount as well, but I think the first few chapters have a lot just to get you to a place where you understand the world and the situation enough to follow the story, if that makes sense.
There seems to be a long wait time between each book so you have the time to catch up don’t worry! 😀 ❤

      3. Oh okay! I’ve read a few books that have done that. So that’s totally all right, especially if the world building is carried through to the rest of the books!
And yay! Glad I don’t have to bunge-read them lol

  2. I see this series everywhere! Especially because the cover is so simple and easily recognizable for the whole series (is it this series that had a sudden change in the cover art for one of the books?). I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed this and you gotta admit that the moment you realize how much a character has changed from one book to another is a beautiful thing! Great review, Beth! 😀

    1. That’s strange I don’t tend to see this series around WordPress much, but it is a favourite of mine either way. Yeah there was a cover change which I’m still a little so-so about but it hasn’t stopped me loving this book, and pre-ordering it either.
The character development in the series is amazing, and given this is only the third book out of seven there is still likely a long way for these characters to go.
      Thanks Lashaan. 🙂

  3. This was such a brilliant review, Beth! I love how you gave this broad overview and managed to not give anything away. I struggled so much doing mine because I was worried about what I would give away and in the end I think I ended up being a bit too vague. 😂
Anyway! I swear it feels like just yesterday we were talking about how we couldn’t wait for TSR and now it’s here and we’ve read it. I’m pretty sure I’m still trying to process everything. It really was such a fantastic book though and Samantha Shannon completely surprised me. You know I love coming up with TBS theories but honestly I never saw anything coming in TSR. Except for the part when Paige saw Warden’s memories from the Netherworld. What was revealed there I actually saw coming. I just kind of knew because it seemed obvious. Which, by the way, does Terebell rub you the wrong way too? In The Bone Season I actually liked her and then in The Mime Order I was eh but each book seems to bring more of her attitude out. It really does seem like the voyants outside of Scion are her puppets with Paige being the strings she’s pulling while Nashira is Scion’s puppeteer.
And I know we’ve already talked about it but I love the fact that we saw different voyant communities. I know I said I loved Edinburgh the most because of Liss but as far as setting goes I found Manchester the most interesting. It was night and day compared to London and was kind of like stepping into the past. I can’t wait to see what Paris’ voyant community is like. I saw somewhere that the next book is going to have a bit of a political focus so that’s going to be interesting.
And the relationship between Jaxon and Paige is definitely an interesting one. I feel it’s so complex because he was the one to save her in a way, not just from Sheol I but also by taking her in when she was 16. He gave her purpose, in a way, and a family. I feel like he’s the snake in the grass that will continuously surprise us. And I have feeling we’ll be seeing quite a bit of him in TBS4.
As for Warden, I actually ended up feeling so bad for him in TSR. And for Paige. For the fact that they obviously care for each other but in all honestly it just wasn’t working out. Too much pulling in different directions. Then everything that happens in Edinburgh, that scene, my heart broke completely. Still I do think he’s hiding something.
I so need book four now! I’ve been going through a terrible book hangover. I ended up rereading TBS and TMO before looking through my favorite parts from TSR over the past few days. I’m forcing myself away from rereading them now though or I’ll get stuck in my reread hole. 😂😂
    Great review as always!! 💕😊

    1. Thanks so much Melissa, I think I’ve managed to get the hang of giving an overview of the book without giving any spoilers. But honestly it took me a long time to write this review because I wanted it to be perfect, or as close to perfect as I could get it.
It definitely feels like yesterday. Honestly even though I’ve read it now it still feels like we’re waiting for it to be released. Almost as if another book will be coming out from this series in a couple of months or something (I wish). I’m definitely still in awe over this book. It was nothing like I expected it to be but it was just amazing in the end. I never really see things coming in books, I didn’t even see the part about Warden’s memories coming. The last part, after Edinburgh, shocked me so much, I never expect Paige or Samantha Shannon to actually go there you know.
She definitely rubbed me the wrong way in this book, and I think I remember being a bit so-so about her in The Mime Order as well. I don’t think she’ll turn out to be evil or anything like Jaxon did but I do think she can’t really be trusted with the voyants best interests. Edinburgh was amazing but yeah I preferred Manchester as well. I think because they spent longer there it felt a little more developed you know? Edinburgh was amazing but between the riots and the confusion happening there it was all a little up in the air. Ohh, I’m definitely intrigued by that mention of the next book. 🙂
I definitely want to see more from Jaxon and Paige. It’s definitely complex but I feel there’s a lot left to explore between the two of them still. Jaxon has been a huge part of Paige’s life and I think without her father alive anymore and without Nick she may find herself turning to him a little. After all it seems like they’re both going to be in Paris in TBS4.
Oh my heart broke at that scene. I really want them to work things out but I don’t think it will happen anytime soon. Even after the way this book ended for Paige they still have two very different priorities and two different people. It’s got to be hard coming back from that.
I’m definitely going to need to re-read the whole series to date at some point. I was so excited to get started on TSR I didn’t re-read TBS or TMO like I had planned. This is definitely my favourite series and this book only confirmed that.
      Thanks Melissa! 😀 ❤

      1. You’re welcome, Beth!! 💕 It took me a long time to write mine for the same reason. I spent days editing it, trying to make it perfect.
Right? It does feel like we’re still waiting for it to be released. And I so wish there was another one coming out in a few months. I could definitely go for another novella in lieu of another book. Maybe one in Jaxon’s point of view? I’d give anything to get a peek inside his head. But yeah, it was nothing like I excepted either but being so surprising made it amazing. I always try to see things coming in books but more often than not I am wrong. It’s fun trying to guess though 😂. And yes! The part after Edinburgh shocked me a lot too. I really didn’t expect it to go there either. I was gripping my Kindle with my jaw dropped. I don’t think I’ve ever been in that much suspense over a book before lol. I mean I kind of figured Nashira would get her hands on Paige again at some point but I didn’t think it would happen that soon or in that way, you know?
That’s exactly my thoughts! I don’t think she’ll turn out to be evil either but she definitely can’t be trusted with the voyants best interests. I kind of see her as a self-serving character, she obviously wants what is best for her people and she’ll use anyone or anything to get that. And in a way Paige was a buffer between her and the syndicate but now without Paige there…
Yeah, I get what you mean. We also saw more of the voyant community in Manchester than we did in Edinburgh. Given the fact that it was more up in the air because of everything that was happening I really hope we end up seeing more of Edinburgh in the future.
I could definitely see her turning to Jaxon. Not only because, like you pointed out, he’s played such a big part in her life and he’s a familiar figure in a new place but also because of everything that is changing. I really do wonder if Jaxon will ever jump sides again and use his evil for the good. But then again I don’t see him being someone who will let go of a grudge and back down.
Same! Although, I do hope that something gives in the next book considering they’ll be in Paris with no other Ranthen in sight but given how much Samantha Shannon is talking about TBS4 breaking our hearts I’m doubting that will happen. I’m just not prepared for more heartbreak. TSR gave me enough 😂.
Well, I hope you have fun with your TBS reread whenever you do get to it! I have a feeling you will though. And same, TSR definitely confirmed how this series is my favorite too. 😊

      2. There was just to much to say about this book and so much I wanted to say about it. I tend to find that the books I love the most end up being my longest reviews and also the ones I find the hardest to write.
If only there was another one coming out in a few moths right? I’m still really excited for my actual copy of TSR to be dispatched from Amazon and in my hands but it won’t be as amazing as seeing the next book in the stages up to its release. Ohh, I’d LOVE a Jaxon novella, basically I just want more from him because he’s such an intriguing character. I’m the same and The Song Rising definitely ended up surprising me in all the very best ways.
No neither had I, there was so much happening it was almost hard to keep up but I guess that was the point of everything that happened in Edinburgh, knock everyone off their feet so no one knows what is really happening.
I think Terebell hates Nashira too much to be completely like her, to want to strike down the Mine Order, I do think though Terebell will stretch the limits of what we define as good in this series to take down Nashira but she won’t be 100% evil I agree. I’d be interested to see what happens in London without Paige, whether Terebell and the Mime Order make the most of the opportunity her actions in this book gave them.
Edinburgh would be a great place to go back to, I think they will simply because of the connection to Liss there.
I almost feel like Paige will think she’s the one in control, seeing Jaxon and dealing with him on her own terms, only to find out he’s been the one playing her. I can definitely see Jaxon switching sides again. He’s someone who goes where the power is and where he has power and he had more of it in the Mime Order than he does with Nashira now. But yeah he knows how to hold a grudge for sure.
Unfortunately I don’t think the lack of Ranthen will fix things for Paige and Warden, and oh god I’m not prepared for even more heartbreak in the next book, this one was bad enough! I hope so too, it will be sometime soon, after reading TSR I really want to go back to the whole series again! 😀

      3. Same here! I always find it ironic how the books we love are the hardest to write reviews for while the books we don’t love are easy to write reviews for, at least for me.
It would be so awesome. I’m telling you we just need someone to invent a time machine so that we can have all of the books already lol. Me too! I’m pretty sure the second I have my copy in my hands I’ll be turning through the pages rereading my favorite parts. Same, I always need more Jaxon. And Warden too. More of both of them would make me happy. 🙈
Most likely and honestly aside from Paige getting taken by Vance I’m still not all that sure of what was happening. Was it staged to be like Dublin on purpose or were they actually hurting people? It seemed like both at points.
That’s true, if there’s one thing I think they all have I common it’s their hatred of Nashira and Terebell’s smart enough to see the potential in that and use it to her advantage rather than taking down that advantage. See, that’s the one minor downside to the fact that this series is completely in Paige’s point of view (and will continue to be so). We don’t get to see what’s going on outside of what’s happening with her and I would love to see what happens in London without Paige there. So much novella potential! I’ll just keep wishing for future novellas in other point of views lol.
I think so too! Because of Liss and the fact that the leader of the voyant community there offered Paige a safe place to stay if she needed it.
I could so see that happening! Jaxon really could end up playing her again like that. Not that Paige is an easy target as he already betrayed her once so she doesn’t exactly trust him but I could see something like that happening. Right? I also feel like he goes where he’s most safe as well, where he can guarantee his own survival.
Sadly, probably not. And I feel like TBS4 is going to be worse in the heartbreak department. I think she’s creating it around breaking our hearts. I will never be prepared for it. 😣

      4. I think in a way it just goes to show how much we do love them, that we want to write the best possible reviews for our favourite books.
Inventing a time machine seems like a massive undertaking so I’m afraid we may be stuck waiting the long way around. Still if someone does invent a time machine I will definitely use it to get my hands on copies of all the books I want to read! I’m definitely going to be re-reading TSR at some point, very soon likely even if it’s just flicking through some of my favourite parts.
Neither am I, but I think it was staged to kind of bring back memories of Dublin. Do you remember what Maria (I think) mentioned about what Vance did to another rebellion leader, re-created the death of her younger brother to throw her off her game. I think it was the same thing with Paige and Dublin but it didn’t work we discovered in the end.
I’d definitely be interested in seeing more POV in this series. I wonder if it’s something Samantha Shannon will do in future books now some of the main characters have been split up. I’d love to see more of Terebell and Nashira maybe away from Paige and the other voyants.
It’s more likely they’d go back to Edinburgh than they would Manchester for that reason. I’m actually really interested to see where Jaxon ends up going net. Nashira is not going to be easy to manipulate but neither is Paige, and I think in the end Jaxon will take a chance and try and manipulate one or the other, kind of how he works as a character and a traitor I guess.
Well you did say she said that the end of the fourth book would hurt a lot of people that way. Kind of makes me more excited for it you know? 😀

      5. That’s true, it does show how much we love them. That and the fact that I want to convince everyone to give TBS a try. I’ve realized I’m such a book pusher when it comes to this series. 😂
Sadly, it does. But yes! If someone does invent one in the future I would definitely be using it to get my hands on all the books I want to read too.
Oh it was definitely staged to bring back memories of Dublin for Paige. Vance is a great villain in that aspect since she plays so heavily on physiological war fare and I think it would have worked on Paige had Warden not showed her her memories first. Speaking of that! Something else that I hope comes up again is the fact that the golden cord let Paige use Warden’s voyance. I wonder if there is a possibility for Warden to be able to do the same with Paige’s or if that wouldn’t work since he’s a Rephaite.
Same but I think I saw a tweet or something in one of her blog posts where she said that all of them would be in Paige’s point of view but that we would get insight into other characters in the same way we did with Marie and Nick through their memories in TSR. I do hope that she does a novella in another POV in the future though.
Me too! Jaxon’s intentions are always so veiled that I think I’m always going to wonder what he does next. But yeah between Paige and Nashira he’s bound to try manipulating one of them.
I’m anxious and excited for it all at the same time. I know that I’m going to have to force myself not to look straight at the ending when I read TBS4 because all her talk about a heartbreaking ending is bad for my spoiler impulse. 🙈

      6. I will recommend TBS to everyone I come across. Seriously even if it’s not their usual genre I’ll still recommend it! 🙂
Just go ahead five years, run to the nearest bookstore, and buy everything in the shelves. That’s what I’d do, then go back to my normally time and read them all! 🙂
I hope we see more of Vance, it’s kind of up in the air based on how things ended for her character but if they bring back Finn I reckon they’ll have to bring back Vance as well. Ohh, that’d be really interesting if that did happen, and it would definitely give the two of them a head start against their enemies, being about to use the others power. Ahh, well maybe we’ll still get some other kind of insight into Nick, maybe a phone call or something! 😀
I think he’ll end up going back to Paige at some point, simply because he was in a position of power over her whereas with Nashira he was her servant so to speak. Jaxon likes power, that’s one thing I know about his character.
The promise of a heartbreaking ending makes me more excited to get my hands on the book and more apprehensive at the same time. I need to know what happens Melissa! 🙂 ❤

      7. Me too. I can’t help but recommend it no matter what. I actually texted my friend after I finished TSR and told her about the first book and how she should read it. 😂
Right? Or at least everything on the shelves that catches my eye and that I can fit into a cart.
I hope we see her again too. I don’t think she’ll be knocked down for long. Though she does creep me out a little but I think that’s a great quality for a villain to have. But yeah if they bring Finn back I agree that they’ll probably bring Vance back too.
Yep! It definitely would. I feel like there is so much yet to be revealed about this whole golden cord thing and I can’t wait to find out more about it. I hope so. If Nick doesn’t at least call her I think I would be sad.
Yeah, I think so too. Nashira kind of gives him the illusion of power by letting him be the Overseer and I agree about Jaxon liking power so the illusion of it would not be enough for him.
Me too! I need to know what happens so much. I just want time to fast forward and for me to have TBS4. I haven’t even gotten my copy of TSR yet because Amazon is weird and isn’t shipping it until the 14th. 😢

      8. I guess if we recommend it enough times people will actually pick up the books. My friend still hasn’t so Im going to have to start bugging her more about it! 😀
Just take a couple of suitcases with you, fill them both up with books and bring them back again. That’s what I’d do.
Oh she’s definitely a great villain, I almost feel like there’s more to her than meets the eye as well. Like even after everything we learnt about her in this book it’s only a small part of her character and who she really is. Either way I’d definitely be interested in seeing her again and learning more about her. Maybe we’ll get Finn and more Vance in book four!
I think given the whole illegalness between voyants and Ranthen (not sure on the spelling but you know what I mean right?) there has got to more to the golden cord than meets the eye. I’m sure we’ll get some Nick in the fourth book, here’s hoping either way.
Eventually an illusion of power won’t be enough, even though he kind of has a life of luxury with Nashira it won’t be enough for him. Either way I can’t wait to see what Jaxon does next.
Now we start the long wait for the fourth book. My copy actually arrived yesterday and oh it’s so beautiful. Hopefully yours will arrive soon as well, at least you’ve read the book so it’s not as much of a wait if that makes sense. 🙂

      9. Right? Here’s to hoping! 😁
That’s a good idea. Might need to be those suite cases with wheels though because I imagine they would be really heavy because of all of the books. 😂
There has to be. She’s one of the only auromatics we know of that can actively manipulate their dreamscape to an extent. At first I almost thought she was voyant when Paige goes into her dreamscape and then I realized she wasn’t. I find her whole connection to Gomeisa interesting too.
        We can only hope!
Definitely. And I mean the fact that they somewhat know what it is means that it has to have happened in the past, the whole golden cord thing. One of the many mysteries of TBS that I want answers about. 😂
I can’t wait to see what Jaxon does next either.
Yes, the torturous long wait! Mine finally arrived today! And that’s true. Mainly I was eager to finally have all three on my shelves. 😊

      10. Yeah, take more than one suitcase and spread the weight over two or three or four or more! 😀 Just as many as you can physically carry.
I’m sure there are other auromatics who can manipulate their dreamscape like that. I’d actually be interested in seeing more of them, and maybe seeing if Paige can change her dreamscape to protect it from other voyants and Rephiam.
I’m sure we’ll get answers eventually, but it may take a long time to get them. There are still four more books to be released and we may not get answers until book seven!
That’s great. I actually brought a copy of The Bone Season with the new paperback cover because it had The Pale Dreamer novella included so I’m going to collect the new covers in paperback as well and complete the new collection.
Also just FYI I went to the event Samantha Shannon did in London and got some The Song Rising button badges. I already have some because they were sending them out as UK pre-order gifts like publishing companies sometimes do. I was wondering if you wanted them. I could send them to you if you like, just let me know? 🙂

      11. Right? I would need to have had a book savings account just for the possibility of a time machine being created because it sounds like an expensive bookstore trip. 😂😂
Probably. I would definitely be interested in seeing more of them too. Or just auromatics in general because it would interesting to see some of them on the voyants side. And I would love to see if Paige can learn to protect her dreamscape. I mean if the Rephaim can go it then the voyants have to be able to.
I know, I know. I’m just a terribly impatient reader. Watch those few things I really want to know not be revealed until the last book lol. I doubt it but still. 🙈
I want to do that too! I’m waiting until The Song Rising is released in paperback and then I’m going to buy all the new covers so that I can collect both sets too.
That’s awesome! Did you have fun at the event? I wish she was coming to Texas during her North America side of the tour but sadly she isn’t. Are the badges the ones with the I heart Warden one? I got a set of those through the pre-order incentive too. But thanks so much for offering to send them to me! ♥

      12. Expensive but worth it when you consider all the books you’d then have which you wouldn’t have had to wait for to be released! 😀
There have to be some aromatics out there who are on the voyants side, maybe if they’re people like Paige’s father who were aromatics with voyant family members seeing them be persecuted and wanting to do something stop it. Maybe that will be the net stage for Paige or something; it’s likely something Warden will know how to do.
Hopefully not everything will be revealed in the last book, there are four books left so there’ll be some reveals added in there I reckon. 😀
I’ll be doing the same, well I already have The Bone Season in the new paperback and I’ll be ordering The Mime Order in the new paperback, I’ll just wait until The Song Rising is released in new paperback before I buy that one as well.
Oh it was amazing, it was great seeing her speak about her books and what’s happened to Paige and the character so far (obviously there were no spoilers for TSR given it had just been released). Oh that is a shame, but I’m sure she’ll work her way to where you are at some point.
Yes those are, and that’s all right, I know you love the series as much as I do so I figured if you hadn’t got them you would have wanted them.

        Liked by 1 person

      13. True, definitely worth it! 😊
Ah, see I hadn’t thought of that. There definitely has to auromatics out there on the voyants side because of family members. I’m pretty positive Burnish isn’t voyant but I’m also not sure if she’s exactly on the voyant’s side or just seizing an opportunity. Maybe and yeah most likely Warden does know how to do that.
Yeah, true. There most likely will be a lot of reveals over the next four books. Wouldn’t be much fun if everything was saved for the last book. Though I bet some things will be.
I bet it was amazing. I saw a few readers tweeting things from other events and it made me wish I was there. I have so many questions about the books that I’d love to ask her one day. Hopefully she will and hopefully if she does the event will be in a city near me.
I definitely would have, I was actually worried I wouldn’t get mine for a while and then they showed up. 🙈

      14. From what I remember the auromatics outnumber the voyants so it makes sense that there are some family ties there. If not that would mean every single voyant was related somehow! 😀
I feel like Burnish could have a voyant family member, I agree she seems more like she’s seizing an opportunity than fully coming over to the voyants side but there was still a reason she felt the need to work for them as a double agent.
If everything that was revealed in the third book is anything to go by there will be so many reveals in the fourth book we won’t know where we stand by the end of it.
I’m sure one day you’ll get to see her, be it from her going to your city or you going to her when she’s somewhere near your city! 🙂 You can save up all your questions and ask them in one go.
I kind of forgot about mine until they showed up, that was a nice surprise one day! 😀

      15. Yeah, I think the auromatics do outnumber the voyants so it does make sense. I do wonder if voyance is a trait that can be passed down to children or if it’s something that just happens. I don’t think it’s ever been brought up and if it is passed down then it makes me wonder about the whole auromatics and voyants supposedly not mixing well thing. I remember Warden saying that in book one.
She could! I hadn’t thought of that. I do have this whole theory about her and Alsafi because after The Song Rising I have a feeling that he knew about Warden and Paige. He tells Paige to tell Warden that he hopes what he’s doing redeems him and I just need to know what he meant. Then the whole thing where the poltergeist put the words Kin on her hand. So many questions! 😂
Oh yeah I definitely think we’re in for a ton of reveals in book four.
I have feeling by the time she does make it to my city that I will have way too many questions lol. Although who knows? Maybe by then some of the questions I have will have already been answered by the books.
Surprise mail is always the best! 😁

      16. I think based on everything we’ve read so far it does seem to be kind of random. But then again we don’t really know a lot about the other voyants families, we certainly don’t know a lot about Paige’s family. Just because her dad was auromatic doesn’t mean the rest of her family was does it? I still think there’s a lot left to learn about the voyants and auromatics and everything still. We’ve essentially got four more books of information to come.
Ohh you’re bringing up so many things I wasn’t all that aware of, I really can’t wait to see how everything pans out in the next book. I think by the time we get to the end of the series I’ll have to go back and re-read it just to appreciate all the reveals and all the foreshadowing because I reckon there’s a lot of it!
Just write a list of your questions and tick them off each time one is answered. May be the only way to keep track as more come up during the next few books! 😀

      17. Yeah, we really don’t know a lot about the other voyants families. I mean we know that Liss’ parents were voyant and I think Nick’s parents are too but beyond that nothing else. That’s what makes me question if it’s inherited or not. It doesn’t and it makes me wonder if her mom was or not. There really is so much left to learn about both the voyants and auromatics. It’s makes me realize how much Samantha Shannon has put into this book world she’s built, it’s incredible.
I can’t wait either! There’s so much I want to know and I feel like each book is a surprise of trying to guess what will be revealed. I love it! I’m definitely going to have to back and reread them all and do that once we get to the last book too. And possibly cry because it’s the last book and I won’t want it to be over. 😂
That’s a good idea! I think I’ll do that. I already have a list of theories so why not a list of questions. 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      18. I think it would be interesting if we saw some other voyant families or something, or maybe saw a place where voyants and auromatics worked together instead of apart. For some reason I never thought it was inherited but I reckon it could be. Kind of gives more weight to the theory of Finn being voyant as well.
I think by the time book four has been released you’ll probably have even more questions, and the same with books five and six but hopefully not seven! 😀
I’ll keep re-reading this series up to the release of the seventh book and then beyond reading everything from start to finish all over again! 🙂 I don’t really want this series to end either.

        Liked by 1 person

      19. It would be awesome if we saw a place where voyants and auromatics worked together! Yeah, if Finn is voyant it could be a possibility. The whole inherited or not about voyance is definitely another question I want to asked Samantha Shannon. 😂
Oh there is a 100% chance I’ll have even more questions by book four and the others. But, yeah, hopefully not seven. Hopefully by the end of seven all of my questions will have been answered lol.
I feel like once we get to book six I’ll have to take two months just to reread all the previous books. 🙈

        Liked by 1 person

      20. I reckon there has to be a place, kind of like the Syndicate but for voyants and auromatics to work together. I reckon the fourth book will focus on Sheol II given it will be set in Paris (I’m guessing seeing as Paige is going there) but maybe we’ll see something like that in a later book.
Did you see on Twitter Samantha Shannon is doing a Goodreads Q&A? May be a perfect time to ask her some of these questions. 😀
Writing them down may be a good idea, then you can cross them off as we get the answers and by book seven they should all be crossed off shouldn’t they?
Same here probably, but what an amazing two months it will be! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      21. There definitely has to be, and for some reason I keep wondering if such a place is in Ireland. That would be an interesting twist! And yeah I think the fourth book will focus more on Sheol II. That and a combination of these mysterious sponsors we’ve heard about. 😊
Literally the second I read the part of your comment about a Goodreads Q&A I ran to twitter and then GR and posted my top questions. 😂😂 And funny enough someone else asked two other questions I was curious about so I’m excited. 😁
At first I couldn’t remember anything beyond the bell-jar question so I’m thinking that’s a sign that I do need to write them down lol. Yep! By book seven they should all be crossed off.
        Right? 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      22. Well a lot of things for Paige do centre around Ireland so I think there’s going to be more to that country than just a place controlled by the Scion so completely. We still have four more books to go, plenty of time to focus on everything we wanna see! 😀
In that case I’ll be sure to check out the Q&A to see what she answers, I think a lot of your questions are mine as well!
By book seven you’ll probably have a whole notebook full of questions! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      23. Definitely, there has got to be more to it than being controlled by Scion. And I think your theory about it being a while until we see Ireland is completely on point because SS answered my question about Ireland and said that we will see Ireland but not for a while.
I’m freaking out a little bit at the moment because her answers to my questions just backed up a lot of my theories and also just freaking out because she answered my questions. 😂😂
The whole bell jar thing is going to be a key plot twist! And she said in books 5-7 we’ll learn more about the Rephaim which I’m so excited about. Also, voyance is inherited and she said sometimes the passing of it to the child doesn’t go smoothly which really makes me think that Paige’s mom was voyant and since it’s passed down she could have been a dreamwalker. And then for my Finn question her answer was “If you don’t see a body in these books, there’s a possibility that the person is alive.” pretty much what we were saying about Finn lol. Then my whole thing about the Rag and Bone Man – well book 4 is going to be the conclusion of his story and she didn’t answer if he’s someone Paige knows which I have a terrible theory about considering all the heartbreak talk. Also, there’s a possibility that Warden could use Paige’s voyance the way she used his through the golden cord.
Can we have book 4 already? I’m even more excited after this. 😂
I probably will. Unless she does a Q&A after every book because if she does it could knock quite a few questions off my list. Someone asked about Julian and Michael too and she said Michael got away and that we’ll learn what happened to him, David, and Julian soon. 😊

      24. Yep, I did check out the GR thread and saw her answers to your questions. I do think Ireland will be late in the series if not the last book. It seems like such a big part of Paige’s story it would be the perfect place to end the series in that way.
I get what you mean. As soon as I saw her answer you your question on Finn I was like, ‘yep, he’s alive and we’ll definitely be seeing him at some point in the series’. I’m like 100% convinced of it now! 🙂
Now we just have to try and guess what that plot twist could be. Also I guess that makes sense about Paige’s mum but given she said it doesn’t always pass smoothly could that mean that maybe it wasn’t here mum but someone else Paige inherited it from, like a grandparent or aunt or something?
He’s alive, he is so 100% alive!
He could be anyone though couldn’t he? We don’t know anything about him and I have to admit as well given that the ending to the fourth book is heartbreaking and the Rag and Bone Man’s story ends in that book I feel the same kind of terror you do at the moment!
I would be more than happy to have book four in my hands right this second! 😀
Maybe she will. If this one goes well, which it seems to have, you never know. I need to read the rest of the thread which I will do tonight but yes I can’t wait to find out about Michael, David and Julian. Especially Julian because I’ve been wondering about him ever since the end of the first book! 🙂

      25. It would definitely be the perfect place to end the series! Though part of me does hope that maybe we’ll get to see Ireland in book 6 as well as 7 only because there’s so much I want to know about it and her family. Darn, I should have so asked about Paige’s family! That slipped my mind. 🙈
Right? As soon as I saw her answer about Finn that was my exact reaction! He is so alive. I’m completely convinced and I can’t wait until we see him in the series. I will cheer when that happens! 😁
Yep, definitely have to guess what that plot twist is. I don’t even have any theories on what it could be but I’m glad now that it’s confirmed that the bell jar is an important part. I have a feeling we’ll get more of a sense as to the possibility of in what way as the books go on. And since she brought up 5-7 I have a feeling it will be sometime after book 4. That could be a possibility! I hadn’t thought about the idea that it could have passed to her from someone else. Would be an interesting twist. Just the fact that being a dreamwalker could run in her family has me even more intrigued about the history of her family.
True, he could. And it’s the idea that he could be anyone as well as someone Paige knows that makes me nervous. But at the same time I’m really excited to find out who he is even if it ends up breaking my heart. The anticipation from having to wait since TMO!
Me too. I don’t know what I’ll do if we have to wait two more years.
I can’t wait either! I have a big feeling they’re with Burnish’s sponsors. Especially David. And it will be so good to see Julian again because I’ve missed his character. I ended up asking another question about Sheol II just because I wanted to know how big of a part it would play in TBS4 along with Jaxon and you were right because it will be playing a major part. 😁
A lot of people asked some great questions and now most of the ones I had are answered. One of which was about Paige and the Netherworld which backs up this old theory I had about her visiting in a future book by dreamwalking. 😊

      26. That would be pretty interesting. So far it seems to have been a different setting each book almost so maybe they’ll introduce Ireland at the end of book six to focus on it in book seven or something.
Maybe she’ll do another Q&A and you could ask then. Given how successful this one was I imagine she’ll do another one at some point.
It’s now gotten to the point where I will be so shocked if it turns out he is dead, but I don’t think she’ll do that to us. It’s kind of weird that of all the characters we’ve been introduced to it’s the one we haven’t met, so to speak, that we’re the most excited to see again! 😀
I don’t really have any theories. There’s so much that happened in book three and you know the rest of the series will be the same. I’ll have one theory now but by the time I’ve read the fourth book it will have morphed into so many others because of all the new information.
If we get the history of her family we’ll probably find out then who she inherited it from. I guess the fact that she said it doesn’t always turn out that way leads me to believe Paige wouldn’t have necessarily inherited it from either of her parents.
I don’t have many theories on the Rag and Bone Man, I think if it’s someone we’ve met before whoever it turns out to be will end up shocking me.
Here’s hoping the next two years will go quickly then! 🙂
Yeah I don’t think they’re necessarily free at the moment given the fact they haven’t met up with Paige and Warden again, who knows where they’ll be though. And two, can’t wait to see more of Sheol II in the next book. I reckon that will have a load of twists.
Oh that’s great to hear. I’ll be sure to check out the feed again tonight. See what questions I missed the first tine around! 😀

      27. Yeah, there is the fact that each book seems to have a different setting. That makes me so curious about where they’ll be in book five. I could definitely see it coming up at the end of book six and then being the setting in book seven.
Right? I’ll be shocked if it turns out he’s dead too. And sad. Yeah, it is kind of weird that we’re the most excited to see someone again that we’ve only seen through Paige’s memories but also to be expected with all the focus on him and this suspense over whether he’s alive lol. Even though I’m convinced there’s still that little bit of doubt. 🙈
I have so many theories! But, yeah, with all the information thrown our way in book three and then all the other information we’re bound to get in future books they’ll end up changing a lot.
Definitely! And I could see that being the case, her having inherited it from another family member. I do have a feeling that if it does run in her family it came from her mom’s side of the family.
Oh I’m thinking the reveal of the Rag and Bone Man with end up being a shocker. With how closed lipped Samantha Shannon is beyond his story ending in book 4 I feel I should prepare for another jaw dropping moment like the end of TMO lol.
I can’t wait either! I hope we get a map of it in the book only because I’m curious how different or similar they have Sheol II’s set up in comparison to Sheol I. 😊

      28. Given Paige is on her way to Paris I can’t imagine book five coming back to London or England yet. Maybe she’ll head into Switzerland where Nick is, or maybe another location will be revealed in book four that will be where Paige heads in the end or something.
Yep, I’m so sure he isn’t dead that if it turns out he is that will be more a shocking reveal than anything else. I wonder if Samantha Shannon realised when she was writing this series that we’d all end up obsessed with someone who hasn’t been a big part in it other than in Paige’s memories over a lot of the other characters!
I reckon by the time I’m halfway through book four I will have had my mind changed about what’s really going on ten times, and my theories will have changed ten times since then too! I agree with you on that, but then again it could be some kind of red herring and it was really her dad, who hid everything and taught Paige to hide everything to keep hers, and his, voyant status a secret.
It will be jaw dropping. I wonder if he’s actually one of the Rephaim, just hiding his aura slightly to make himself seem like a normal voyant. Or if it’s one of the voyants who escaped from Sheol I either with Paige or in the past. Maybe it’s Jaxon (probably not though)!
I love seeing maps in books so yeah, fingers crossed we get one of Sheol II (I’m sure we will though.)

      29. I swear we are on the same thought pattern TBS wise because I was actually thinking there could be a possibility she could end up in Switzerland in book five. It could make sense and bring Nick back into the story because I don’t see him being out of the picture for too long. Either that or both of them could end up going to Bulgaria where Maria is. Out of all the possible places I’m thinking those two have the biggest chance of being book five’s setting.
I wonder that too! It would be funny if she didn’t think we would give Finn a second thought and then suddenly he’s a popular character. The reveal of his story in relation to Paige’s so far has been so deliberate though that I have a feeling she was somewhat expecting us to be curious about him.
Same! I mean even just the Q&A changed a few of my theories and also made me realize that TBS4 is most likely going to be heartbreaking in the sense of what Paige went through at the end of TSR. Seeing her struggle with all of that is going to smash my heart and I’m not prepared. I may need a few boxes of tissues on hand. 😭
That would be a really good twist! I’ve always wondered if Paige’s dad did know about her voyance before TBS. It’s hinted at a bit but never known for sure.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! I keep wondering if he’s a Rephaim and how shocking that would be. To tell you the truth there are times when I have a sinking feeling he’s Warden. Could you imagine how shocking and heartbreaking that would be? But TMO and everything else Samantha Shannon has said about Paige and Warden’s relationship deepening over the rest of the books goes against that theory. But, yeah, it could be one of the voyants who escaped Sheol I. I feel like if it’s Finn or Julian that would be really shocking. At one point I thought it was Jaxon until I reread TMO lol. 🙈

      30. If that’s where she ended the third book for Nick it makes sense that eventually Paige would work her way there as well. And if not book five then definitely book six. Either way I do want to see her bring Nick back again as a main secondary character you know? I’d certainly be interested to see more of Bulgaria (wasn’t it mentioned that was another country where there was a revolution Vance was present at?)
Just goes to show you can never tell what characters you’ll end up falling in love with! To be honest the fact that I’m so obsessed with Finn and his story above most others has come as a surprise to me. He was only mentioned briefly in the books so the fact that I kind of hooked onto his character is kind of out of the blue.
Wow, if that was just the Q&A then I’m really curious what the actual book will do for your theories. Honestly after everything Paige went through in this most recent book I cannot wait to see her character development in the fourth one. It’s going to be a heartbreaking book in so many ways and yeah I’m going to need some tissues on hand as well.
I do think even though her dad is dead there’ll still be more to him in this series somehow.
Oh that would be heartbreaking! But would that work given the golden cord he and Paige have. I mean I know the Rag and Bone Man somehow hid his essence (or whatever you want to call it) but would that have worked with the golden cord? Oh it would be really really shocking if it was Finn over anyone else. Julian I feel kind of has his story going somewhere else but oh I would be shocked if it was really Finn!

      31. It really does, especially with the whole Sheol pattern. First we had Sheol I and now Paige is going to France where Sheol II is so if they successfully implement Sheol III in Sweden then at one point I have a feeling Paige will go there. Same about Nick! I know I’m going to miss him in TBS4. And it was mentioned about Vance being in Bulgaria during their revolution against Scion. I really hope they end up going there at some point. When I think about all of the different countries I want to see them visit in TBS I realize we only have seven books and it sort of makes me wish there was going to be more. 😂
Right? Same here! When he was first “introduced” in Paige’s memories I didn’t expect him to become one of my favorites. Now I get so excited at even the mention of him.
I am too. I have a feeling TBS4 is going to blow a hole in some of my theories. Especially considering the Rag and Bone Man lol. I can’t wait to see her character development in the next one either! I think it’s going to be huge and definitely tissue worthily. And I agree about her dad, I think we’ll end up seeing his spirit at some point.
That’s another thing! I don’t think it would make sense because of the golden cord stuff too. The main reason why I had the theory in the first place is because Warden is the one to bring up how one can hide their aura with Emite blood. I think that’s how the Rag and Bone Man has his hidden. But given everything I highly doubt it’s Warden now, though it would be a very heartbreaking and shocking twist. It really would be shocking if it was Finn! Even if it’s not I just have a feeling it’s someone we’ve met already.

      32. I feel like it’s a natural state for the series to go. I mean Paige was kind of responsible for taking down Sheol I the way she did, and escaping with the other clairvoyants, so it makes sense she’d feel somewhat responsible for helping the other Sheol’s as well. I’m keeping my fingers crossed we’ll still get some Nick in TBS4, even if just a little.
I loved what glimpses we got of the other cities outside of London so seeing other countries is going to be really really interesting. I just want more TBS books in general! 😀
Part of me thinks it’s gotta be the mystery as well, we don’t know a lot about him and it’s the gap in knowledge that makes me so excited for every tiny hint of detail we get on him. Here’s hoping we actually do get to meet him one day, and not just see him through Paige’s memories.
I seem to getting more and more excited about the Rag and Bone Man’s story the more we talk about it! The spirit thing could be really interesting, especially if maybe Nashira or Jaxon has it.
It would be a shocking twist but given Samantha Shannon, what happened in book three and what she says will happen in book four I think we have a bigger twist in store than Warden being the Rag and Bone Man you know? The Finn thing would be a massive shock but given she’s said the Rag and Bone Man’s story ends in book four I kind of hope it’s not because I want more of Finn than him just being in one book you know?

      33. Definitely, Paige would feel responsible for taking down all the Sheol’s given the events of TBS. I mean she lived it and wouldn’t be able to stand by and let others go through what she went through. Same! I need at least a little Nick in TBS4 because I’m going to miss him too much.
Right? I’m going to need more TBS no matter what. I would love if she did a spin-off and showed America and it’s voyants at some point. Just because I’m curious since it isn’t controlled by Scion. There’s just so many little corners of this book world that could be explored! 😊
Oh it has to be in part because of the mystery. Mysterious characters are always the most intriguing! Especially if they’re supposedly dead but there isn’t a body. Yep, here’s to hoping! I feel like he and Paige (even though they haven’t seen each other in a long time) would have the best dynamic. Almost like siblings rather than cousins and it would be nice to see that for Paige.
I am definitely getting more excited about the Rage and Bone Man’s story. That is probably going to end up being one of my favorite things about TBS4 (depending on who it is lol). That’s what I was thinking! If Nashira or Jaxon got a hold of her father’s spirit it would make an interesting twist.
Oh we definitely do, and I’m even more scared for that fact. The ending is supposed to change everything and the only thing I could think of that could change everything is the Ranthen finding out about Warden and Paige. They would withdraw their support and that would be a huge blow. Either that or an even bigger betrayal than Jaxon’s. Yeah, I kind of hope he isn’t because of that too. It would suck if we get the reveal that Finn’s alive only for him to possibly die for real.

      34. And also everything she tried to do in The Mime Order and The Song Rising with the syndicate and the voyants of London. It seems like she’s taken the role of taking down Scion on her own shoulders. And actually on that note you never know; Samantha Shannon may end up taking the series to America, there are still four more books to go and as much as we try and guess we really don’t know where Paige’s story will take her. Still whether it does or not I’m always going to want more of this series.
Yeah I guess there is that. I think we really know so little about him, and then there was the fact that his body was never discovered after the rebellion in Ireland. There are just so many unanswered questions about him. I can definitely see that, and I want to see it in one of the books now too! I can’t wait to see more of the Rag and Bone Man either, that’s something to look forwards to in book four!
Oh I never thought of that. I wonder if the heartbreaking change could have something to do with Warden and Paige’s relationship and the Ranthen finding out. Maybe they do and they do something to Warden as well as withdrawing their support. I can’t really think of anything that would be a bigger betrayal than Jaxon’s though.

      35. Yeah, that too. It does seem likes she’s taken that responsibility of taking down Scion on her shoulders. I love how instead of TBS falling into that ‘chosen one’ trope it’s kind of been Paige making the choice herself and saying the hell with what everyone else has to say about it because she’s going to change the world. Very true. She could end up taking it to America at some point. And each book so far has been so full of surprises. But, yeah, I’m always going to want more too. 😊
We really do know so little about him. And then even what we do know from Paige’s memories is coming from when she was really little. Who knows if they’re completely accurate, you know? Definitely so many unanswered questions that we need answered lol. Me too!
That’s exactly what I’m wondering. I mean you know Terebell was so against Warden spending any time with Paige in TSR and then she lets him go to Paris with her, alone. Kind of suspicious, right? And then, yeah, they could also do something to Warden. The Ranthen finding out really could change everything but almost seems too obvious in that fact. I can’t either, unless one of the Ranthen is a double agent for Nashira. Kind of like Alsafi was a double agent for the Ranthen. 🙈

      36. Exactly, it’s not a case of Paige being the only person who can take down the Scion but more of the case that she’s the only person who’s willing to step up and take them down. That’s how I enjoy seeing fantasy books, less of the chosen one trope and more of people who become chosen you know? I almost feel like you’d need more than one book to tackle America, just because it’s so big compared to England.
That’s a good point actually. I wonder if that will be something that comes into play in a later book. If Flynn’s alive is he the same person Paige remembers or different because her memories aren’t all that accurate you know?
Maybe she’s setting up some kind of trap or something. It does seem kind of like Terebell plays on her own side. She always seemed to hold herself back in TSR in terms of her support for Paige I can definitely see her doing something like that. There probably are more double agents we’ve yet to see. Alsafi can’t be the only one.

      37. Exactly, beyond the whole aspect of Paige being the only human Warden trusts it’s all about the fact that she is the only one willing to do it. Which, like you, that is something I love seeing in fantasy books. We definitely need less of the chosen one and more characters who become chosen through their own choices.
Most likely, which is exactly why I’m wishing for future spin-offs. Even if I’m getting way ahead of myself. 😂
If Finn is alive I do hope it comes into play. It would be interesting to see how her memories of him match up to who he was and who he became after Dublin. And if he’s alive does he think Paige is alive? Because his girlfriend was killed right in front of him and then Paige ran and hid. For all he knows she died that day too.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! It does seem very trapish and given all of that I could really see her doing it too. Oh there definitely have to be more double agents floating around.

      38. It’s the thing that it could have been anyone, if it wasn’t Paige on that train, wasn’t Paige who got captured and taken to Sheol I then it could have been another clairvoyant in her place now. It’s that that I like about this series, that it’s Paige’s choice to fight and not destinies.
I’m wishing for spin-offs as well so you’re not along there! 😀
I imagine even if he was similar to her memories he’ll still have changed quite a bit. Seeing what he did during the uprising and the fact that he will have aged about nine/ten years is enough to change anyone. I think he has to know Paige is alive, the only reason she believe’s he’s dead is because they had a ‘funeral’ for him, just without the body. They wouldn’t have had one of those for Paige.
Yep, we haven’t seen the last of the double agents. I reckon there are people we’ll be totally surprised by in later books! 😀

      39. Same, that’s what I like about the series too. And now that you mention the fact that it could have been anyone – you know who I could imagine it having been if not Paige? Julian. Only because we still don’t know his voyance and I feel like he’s pretty powerful and would have made a great leader. Though it would have been significantly less successful without Paige’s position in the syndicate and in the end I feel like she would have ended up working with them even with Sheol I being their introduction.
True, especially about the aging. And possibly. Though if he were captured by the Rephaim then he wouldn’t have known at first. They keep a lot of information away from voyants. But then again if had been an escaped he would have heard of her by now given that she’s wanted by Scion. 😂
Oh there most likely will be! And I’m excited about that lol.

        Liked by 1 person

      40. Ohh I’d have definitely been interested reading this series with Julian in Paige’s place. I mean I love Paige don’t get me wrong but there are a few other potential leaders there could have been in Paige was never captured.
Yeah and then there’s the fact that Jaxon came for her at the end of TBS, would he have done that for any other voyant?
Well there’s that. He could have been taken somewhere after what happened in Ireland and maybe he doesn’t know anything about what happened to his family or his girlfriend. Kind of makes me think he hasn’t escaped in that case, if he is being held somewhere that is.
        Same here! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      41. I would have too! Julian’s character has always interested me just because I feel like he has a lot of secrets. Also because I love his character in general. And the fact that there are so many other potential leaders, I feel like that’s going to come up with this new group soon since they’re searching out ‘fire starters’ for creating unrest and rebellion against Scion.
I don’t think he would have, unless they had a gift as powerful as Paige’s. Because even though she isn’t all-powerful she has a voyance that has the potential to make her so. It’s that power that made her so important to Jaxon, important enough to return to Sheol I to get her when he was actually hiding from Nashira at that point.
That’s what I was thinking. I have a feeling if he is alive and isn’t working for Nashira or some other group then he’s still being held somewhere.
Also, today I saw a tweet on Samantha Shannon’s twitter where she said we’ll learn a lot more about Warden in TBS4 and I am so happy about! I really want that book. 🙈

        Liked by 1 person

      42. Well he’s been AWOL since the end of book one so I feel the secrets he’s probably keeping are big ones. I mean there has to be some reason he’s not reunited with Paige yet, or at least tried to get in contact with her.
No that’s why he went after Paige isn’t it? Not because he wanted her back but because he wanted a Dreamwalker back. I imagine if he’d been able to find another Dreamwalker he would have left her in Sheol I.
There are so many possibilities aren’t there? And see that does sound interesting, because there’s still a lot we don’t know about Warden, but at the same time I’m thinking ‘forget Warden, tell us about Finn and Julian’! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      43. That’s exactly what I’m thinking too! His secrets have to be big ones and if he hasn’t been recaptured at this point and not tried to contact Paige that sort of makes me a little suspicious. But I guess we’ll see whenever he pops back up again! 😊
Yep, that’s exactly why he went after her – because he wanted his Dreamwalker back. But, yeah, I think if he would have found another he would have left her. Though Nick wouldn’t have been happy with that and I think he would have found a way to get her out.
There is and it makes me excited!
I just want to know more about all three of them! It’s like TBS has so many little secrets hidden and I want to know them all. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      44. Maybe he has some form of amnesia and that’s why he hasn’t tried to contact Paige, I guess with voyant abilities there could be some kind of ability that could do that to a person. Or yeah massive secrets keeping him away. What one is more likely?
Good job he didn’t find another one, then again Paige was pretty much out of Sheol I by that point anyway so…
Nick at least would have kept looking, especially after seeing her in London again when she travelled there with Warden on a ‘job’.
Hopefully more will be revealed in book four then! 😀 ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      45. That would be interesting, the whole amnesia thing. I could get behind that because the types of voyant powers seem to be limitless, especially with the Rephaim. But at the same time I’m leaning more towards the secrets. Just because he seemed a bit secretive in TBS. Didn’t showcase his true voyance to Nashira, wouldn’t tell Paige, vaguely talked about what he did before he was captured but didn’t go into details, and all of that.
Yeah, true. I think either way she would have gotten out of Sheol I. Even without Jaxon’s help. And yep Nick would have kept looking for her.
Hopefully! And I know we both have to be checking Samantha Shannon’s twitter often but today she released the first playlist song for TBS4 and I may have freaked out over it a little. 🙈 It’s Warden and Paige’s theme for TBS4 though! And she used Arcturus instead of Warden deliberately. The song is really good and makes me wish I had a time machine even more because I just really want that book. 😣😂
I’m thinking of doing another TBS recommendation but different. More of a five reasons why people should read it and including my Warden and Paige playlist. 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      46. Exactly, and there’d definitely be one that could mess with a mind in a way of removing memories all-together. It would also be interesting because Paige would know who he was but he wouldn’t know who she was.
Yeah I guess secrets does seem more likely but we just don’t know where Samantha Shannon will take the story and the characters next. It could be a direction we don’t see coming at all.
Yep, I saw that song, I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, and honestly I’m not sure why but I’m not sure if I want to just yet because it’s just going to make me want the book even more and I can have it yet. I don’t know if I can handle that!
My five reasons would all be the same ‘because it’s an amazing series and you don’t know what you’re missing!’. I’d love to see any post you wrote on TBS though, and I’d certainly like seeing your playlist as well Melissa! 😀 ❤

      47. Funny you mention the possibility of a voyance that could mess with minds or remove memories. I’ve always wondering if Warden’s had that possibility to completely take memories. A scary thought but could be interesting 😂. And that would be interesting, Julian without his memories and Paige knowing him but him not knowing here. But, yeah, you’re right we really don’t know where Samantha Shannon is going to take the story or characters next. I love that aspect and find it torture all at the same time because I really want to know what happens next. 😂
Oh it will definitely make you want to next book even more. I’ve had it on repeat the past two days and can’t stop listening to it! We just need TBS4 already. I’m so hoping it’s released next year.
I actually spontaneously wrote it last night and am going to post it tomorrow so. 😁
Also, yesterday I went looking through Samantha Shannon’s tumblr for an ask I wanted to link in my post and there is a lot of great stuff on there. Someone asked about Liss and the possibility of voyants (aside from Nashira) having multiple powers and she says that and Liss will come up later in the books. I’m really excited for that!

        Liked by 1 person

      48. Well if he has the power to reveal memories like he did for Paige with the Ireland thing in The Song Rising it makes sense he would have the power to do the opposite in a way, and yes that would be scary but interesting (probably more scary for Paige than anything though.) We haven’t had an amnesia situation in The Song Rising or anything so it would be interesting to see it done, I guess it does just depend where Samantha Shannon goes with the story. God the wait for book four already feels way too long.
In that case I may save it until the release of book four, or at least until closer so the wait isn’t as bad as it is now!
I have seen that post and will be commenting shortly.
Ohh that is interesting, I’d be interested in seeing voyants with multiple powers because that could open up some interesting avenues for Paige to explore in fighting against the Scion, and I’m always going to want more about Liss and Julian and Finn and all the character we don’t know much about at the moment! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      49. Right? It would make sense. He deals in memories so if his power goes one way there has to be that possibility. I’m seriously hoping we find out more about Warden’s voyance. And definitely depends where she ends up going with the story. Still I’m actually kind of hoping for an amnesia storyline now. If anything it would be a creative way to add some extra drama.
And it does, it hasn’t even been that long since TSR. I feel like this is the result of having read it early. The wait feels even longer!
Me too, it does add a whole new element to the fight against Scion. And mentioning Finn! I had a thought last night (because I was looking for something in TSR) about how Paige mentions Finn being able to tell she was voyant. The whole aspect of that, voyants being inherited, and a comment I saw on Samantha Shannon’s tumblr about the possibility of more dreamwalkers has me wondering if he’s one. Wouldn’t that be awesome? But if that’s the case he definitely wouldn’t be working for Nashira or even captured by them.

        Liked by 1 person

      50. It does make sense, but then again Paige’s power only goes one way doesn’t it? I’m not sure what the opposite of her power would be but there hasn’t been any hint of her having any ability like it so maybe it’s the same with Warden. I’d certainly be interested in an amnesia storyline, and let’s be honest there are plenty of characters she could chose from to write that story as well.
I think we’ve discussed it so much as well it feels like it should have already been released for a year instead of just a couple of months.
Ohh, that’s an interesting thought, and yeah if it turns out Finn was a dreamwalker he wouldn’t be with Nashira already because that’s why she wanted Paige so much. Doesn’t mean he hasn’t still been captured by someone else though, or maybe he has the amnesia storyline, or maybe he’s on the run still. There are just so many possibilities! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      51. Yeah, I think Paige’s only goes one way. Though she can kill people with her voyance, posses them, and also just peek into their dreamscapes. And I feel that there is a lot we’ve yet to discover about her powers. But yeah it could be a possibility that his doesn’t go both ways but it would be interesting if it did. I’m still hoping for the whole Paige and Warden can use each other’s voyance thing to happen because that would be a big advantage for them.
Definitely a lot of characters she could choose from. We can only hope we’ll get an amnesia story line at some point!
Right? We’ve probably had this one conversation going on since February. It feels like it’s been longer though. 😂
Yes! So many possibilities. And a Finn amnesia story line would be really interesting. Either way, it brings to mind the thought of how they found out about dreamwalking. As it’s such a rare type of voyance there had to have been others that Nashira has tried to get.

        Liked by 1 person

      52. Oh I agree there’s a lot, I just feel if there was a possibility of her powers going more than one way there would have been some hint of it you know? It may be different for Warden though, given he’s not technically a voyant like Paige is. You never know that may be something we see in a later book.
I feel like she’ll choose maybe Finn or Julian, it just makes more sense. Or maybe she’ll choose Zeke and he’ll forget about Nick, we still don’t know what happened to him in the third book (Zeke).
I feel like the fourth book should be released soon, that’s how much we’ve talked about this book! 🙂 ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      53. True, it always slips my mind that technically he isn’t a voyant like Paige is. I can’t wait until we learn more about the Rephaim. I’m just so curious about them.
Possibly, I could see her choosing Finn or Julian. And if she chose Zeke that would break my heart. I still have a bad feeling that Nashira will want Zeke. He’s unreadable and if she can take that she’ll become pretty much invincible.
Me too! I feel like I’m still in book hangover mode. I’m surprised I didn’t go into a slump and I think it’s because we’ve been talking about the series so much. 😂
Also, I was looking through Samantha Shannon’s tumblr again today and she described TBS4 as having spying, politics, and a TMO style delve into a new syndicate. I’m excited!

        Liked by 1 person

      54. A lot of the rules that apply to Paige won’t apply to Warden and it could lead to some interesting development for his character depending on where Samantha Shannon decides to take that information you know?
Of all the characters it just makes sense that it would one of them. I have a feeling something heartbreaking will happen to Zeke and/or Nick and yeah it will completely break my heart because I want them both to have a happy ending (I want everyone to have a happy ending though).
I feel like it just means when we do go into a fantasy slump it’s going to be a big one!
Ohh, every hint we get for TBS4 just makes me more and more excited. I’m going to die before the book is actually released I swear to god! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      55. It really could. Honestly, I can’t wait to see where she takes Warden’s character. Even three books later and I feel like we still don’t really know him, you know? There’s still a lot of mystery. We know the surface level aspects – he respects humans in a way the other Rephaim don’t, he’s an incredible teacher, he cares for Paige, and is very good at hiding things. I mean we’ve seen that development of him learning to trust humans again but not much else. Which is exactly why I’m way too excited that we’ll learn more about him in TBS4.
Definitely. I have a bad feeling something heartbreaking with happen with Zeke and Nick too. And it will completely break my heart as well because, like you, I just want them all to have happy endings.
Right? It’s going to be huge. Which makes me sad because there’s so many fantasy books I want to read this year.
Same! I just keep checking Samantha Shannon’s twitter and tumblr and then freaking out over every little hint. I feel like my expectations for TBS4 are even higher than they were for TSR already. 🙈

        Liked by 1 person

      56. I’m going to be honest most times I don’t even remember his real name! 😀 But yeah we know so little about him, and it does work to make him mysterious but at the same time kind of makes him an unknown player as well. What does he really get up to when he’s not with Paige? Who knows because we certainly don’t.
I’m just excited for TBS4 for so so many reasons, one of the main ones being it’s my favourite series and I just really want any book from it being released! 😀
I can’t see Samantha Shannon leaving them along for the remaining four books, even what they’ve been through so far feels kind of light compared to what she’s put her other characters through.
Oh same here, then again I feel there are always so many fantasy books I want to read.
Ah you say that now but you’ll be saying differently when we’re waiting for TBS5, and definitely when we’re waiting for book 7! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      57. I don’t why but I always remember his real name. Possibly because the Rephaim are named after stars and I love that so I remember their names. 🙈 Yes! It does make him an unknown player. I always wonder what he’s doing when he isn’t with Paige. He can’t always be with the Rathen. Although, I can seriously imagine him having a hideaway where he escape to frequently to drink wine and listen to music.
Same! I just need TBS4. I need it to be released already. Just wait until we have a title and a synopsis. I’ll definitely be freaking out.
True. I can’t see her leaving them alone either. I think she’s made if her mission to break out hearts. And I don’t think I’m prepared for that fact.
Oh man, when the wait for TBS5 gets here I think it really will be worse than the wait for TSR or TBS4 combined. Today I saw someone ask Samantha Shannon if in TBS5 the characters will be older and she replied maybe. That means time jump between TBS4 and TBS5. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

        Liked by 1 person

      58. I just think of him as Warden and Warden only, it seems strange sometimes that he even has another name. I can imagine that as well, sometimes everything gets too much so he has a secret getaway where he goes to complain about everything Paige gets into and just about Terebell in general! 😀
I’m going to be pretty much stalking GR until we get a title or cover or synopsis.
She’s going to use every character she has to break hearts, every single one of them will have something heartbreaking happen to them at one point or another.
Well TBS4 is the end of the first story arc, so I reckon that means the cliffhanger will be INSANE! It’s going to make the wait hard to say the least. 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      59. True, though I do love when Paige is annoyed at him and calls him Arcturus. 😂 YES! I can just see him sitting there sipping his wine and listening to music by the fire all brooding, thinking about how these women are driving him crazy or are going to get him killed. I wouldn’t mind a novella of that but then I wouldn’t mind anything in Warden’s POV at this point because I want to know more about him lol.
        Same!
She definitely is. Seriously, I think by the end of this series my heart will be smashed on the floor while I drown underneath all of the tissues I’ll need for my tears. 🙈
I bet it will be! Worse than TMO was, for sure. And that’s why I would feel a little thrown off it there’s a big time jump between TBS4 and TBS5. Either way, I can’t wait to see how it ends up ending because as worried as I am, I’m also very curious. 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      60. Ha, I never actually noticed that but oh that’s kind of funny! 😀 I feel like after what Paige did letting herself get captured by Scion he needed a whole week sipping wine in front of the fire complaining about the women! 😀
It may even be so bad that we look back to books one/two/three as the happy times of the series. That’s what I’m expecting to happen.
See hearing about the big time jump kind of makes me even more nervous for TBS$/TBS5. You know it means something major is going to happen with serious repercussions for everyone we’ve met so far! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      61. Right? Honestly I wonder what he did after Paige got captured by Scion. I really want that time in his POV. Mainly because of the golden cord thing and the fact that Warden seems more in-tune with it than Paige. He can sense when she’s in danger and all of that. That time had to have been horrible for him, knowing where she is and that she’s in danger and not being able to do anything about it. Though, of course, he knows Paige is capable. Just his reaction when she went to give herself up in Edinburgh. Now that scene broke my heart!
Yes! I can see that happening. I kind of already think about about TBS after TSR.
Same. As if I wasn’t nervous enough about it already she adds in a time jump! Definitely something major. But also time jump indicates the conclusion of certain things since it is the end of the first arc. 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      62. Maybe one day we’ll get that in a novella or something. Given I think I remember you saying Samantha Shannon would be writing the whole of this series from Paige’s POV. He would have tried to do something dramatic, I wonder if Terebell had to stop him though, or if she wouldn’t allow him to do something and he had to give in because no one can know about the relationship between him and Paige. Definitely must have been horrible, but I imagine it would be amazing to read. 🙂
I feel like the time jump is just going to make the wait for the fifth book all the more unbearable you know? Like it’ll feel like we’re waiting even longer for it. 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      63. I hope so! If not a novella then maybe if we ever get to see his memories again. It would be interesting, having a scene where Paige sees that memory. I could see him wanting to go get her and thinking of doing something dramatic but then not acting on it because of Terebell and the Ranthen and the fact that none of them can know. And then possibly talking to Nick, because he had to have been the one to tell them she was still alive. He would have known because of the golden cord. It makes me wonder if that’s how he ended up going with Paige. I could see Terebell not wanting him to go to France though and him deciding to go anyway. Especially after everything even if it would have looked a little suspicious. The possibilities! But yeah, it had to have been horrible but would make for a great read.
Oh it’s definitely going to make the wait for TBS5 more unbearable. Especially since we don’t know how far the time jump will be. The suspense of not knowing! And with a possible cliffhanger for TBS4. 🙈

      64. Ohh, having Paige see into his memories again could be interesting, I loved that part in TSR! 🙂 Warden is definitely a character who thinks first and acts after, he probably would have realised rushing to rescue Paige would only cause more problems with Terebell and the Ranthen. Maybe it was in part the golden cord that convinced him not to go after Paige right away, if he could tell she was still all right (in as much as she could have been all right you know?)
Either way TBS4 is going to be epic isn’t it?
To be honest at the moment I feel like the wait for TBS5 is unbearable and TBS4 hasn’t been released yet! 😀

      65. It really could be! Her seeing his memories in TSR was one of my favorite parts too. I have a feeling it’ll come up again in TBS4. That and I can see him looking into her memories of everything that happened. Especially after how he did in the first book. Because he wanted to know what happened at the end of TSR but Paige couldn’t talk about it and if she can’t he’ll want to see it. Which sounds wrong now that I think about it but in his own way I think that’s the only way he knows how to help.
Exactly, he always thinks first rather than rushing in so I could see that aspect of who he is as well as the golden cord keeping him from rushing in to save her.
Definitely! And it’s going to smash our hearts. Earlier last week Samantha Shannon tweeted that she thought of something to make TBS4’s ending even more heartbreaking. I’m not prepared for that! Same about TBS5. It’s like when we were waiting for TSR and all we could talk about was how much we wanted TBS4. I blame the fact that she gives little hints about future books and thus makes me really excited for them even if the next one isn’t released yet. Like how she tweeted that she has an amazing friendship for Paige in TBS6 and she already has their theme song picked out. I can’t wait for it! 😁 (also it sounds like there are some happy moments in Paige’s future which makes me glad)

      66. It definitely gave us additional insight into his character, and considering the whole book is written from Paige’s POV I almost feel that insight was needed to develop his character more you know?
I can certainly see Warden doing something like that, thinking he’s helping Paige, but I can also see Paige feeling kind of betrayed by that in a way so I’d rather he wait for her to trust him enough to actually tell him what happened you know? Plus she’d definitely kick his ass if he went though her mind without her permission.
He would have wanted to rush in, I don’t doubt that, but eventually he would have realised it would have been a mistake. Yeah I saw that tweet as well, my first thought was pretty much how?!’ God the end of the fourth book is likely going to kill me and sending me into a reading slump, not just a fantasy one.
At least there are some happy moments, and I think I’m always going to be super excited for all the books in this series. Her little snippets just add to the anticipation! 😀 ❤

      67. It really did and I agree that getting that look into his memories was needed in a way to develop his character. That’s why I love that there is that possibility for Paige to mirror his voyance. It’s the one way for us to get other POVs in the story. A very unique way as well. 😊
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking about how he would think he was helping Paige but then she would end up feeling betrayed. I could definitely see her, whenever she’s ready, letting him see those memories though rather than speaking them out loud. I don’t think she’ll ever be able to actually talk about it. But yeah, she would so kick his ass if he ever went through her mind again. Paige was not a happy camper when she found out he did that in TBS. I mean she still kind of held that over him in TMO. 🙈
Same! The ending of TBS4 is most likely going to put me in the biggest slump. I just know it’s going to be one of those endings I won’t be able to get over easily. Especially with having to wait for the 5th book.
Yep at least there are some happy moments. Paige deserves some happy moments! And the little snippets definitely add to the anticipation. 😊

      68. I would definitely be unique, and also a perfect way to get insights into different characters, and build their stories and pasts as well. I wonder if Samantha Shannon will do something like that for Nick again, or Maria.
She won’t forgive him easily if he does, but then again if Paige was any at him in TBS maybe Warden remembers that and knows not to do anything like that again without her permission. I feel it would make their relationship stronger if he waited for her to open up to him you know?
I guess we’ll need to build up a list of contemporaries for when TBS4 is released. It may be a case where we have to read mainly contemporaries until TBS5 is released if it’s that heartbreaking of an ending! 🙂

      69. It really would! And I hope that Samantha Shannon does something like that for both Nick and Maria again. Either them or the other characters because I love how we got that look into their histories through that.
She wouldn’t and I have a feeling that Warden remembers how angry she was and probably won’t attempt it again without her permission. Or so I hope. Though I do think it freaked her out in TSR whenever she realized he didn’t need Salvia to see her memories. But I agree, I think it would make their relationship stronger if he waited for her to open up. Honestly, I think we’re in for a surprise with those two in TBS4. If what Samantha Shannon has been hinting at is anything to go by.
Speaking of TBS4! I’ve been thinking about the whole Rag and Bone Man thing again… I’m really starting to wonder if it could be Finn. It would be so heartbreaking if it was Finn (and would also make us a bit mad given everything). But mainly it’s the whole fact that he has his voice disguised. I mean if it is Finn it would make sense since he’s Irish and if Paige heard his voice she would know. Then there’s that possibility of what we talked about with Paige having been so young and some of her memories being not what actually happened, you know? It has me wondering… 🙈
Oh we most likely will need to build up a list of contemporaries. I know I already have a list but I’ll be adding more to it for sure to prepare for TBS4’s ending. 😂

      70. I do think she’s leaving the books open for more information about Maria and Nick’s histories, simply because it seemed that way after Vance and with what we discovered about them both so far it would make sense to go back there one day wouldn’t it?
Warden is not the character to make a mistake twice, he seems too level-headed and cautious for that. Unless he was sure Paige wouldn’t find out, or would be all right with it, he wouldn’t do it. Good surprise or bad surprise? Im keeping my fingers crossed for good but based on the way these books have gone bad is more likely isn’t it?
It would be an interesting direction for the story to go in. Part of me hopes it isn’t Finn though because I remember hearing somewhere from Samantha Shannon the Rag and Bone Man’s story ends in TBS4 and part of me thinks that could mean he dies. I really don’t want Finn to come back only to die again.
I always have a large list of contemporaries, one day I’ll need to make use of it! 😀

      71. Definitely and I could swear that I’ve seen somewhere where she’s talked about how we’ll see more of the characters in a similar way later on. I don’t know if it was on her tumblr or through that Q&A, I can’t remember. Either way, I really do hope we see more of their histories that way.
I completely agree, Warden isn’t the type of character to make a mistake twice. Unless the risk paid off, I have a feeling he would in a situation where that was the case. Although, this wouldn’t be one of those situations. And I think Paige would know the second he peeked into her memories. He may be good at hiding his intentions but I just think she would know. I actually think it’s going to be a good surprise. Possibly mixed in with some bad stuff but really I think we’re in for some good things with them in TBS4. I mean, of course, it could go great and then bad because of the ending but I have a good feeling. 🙈
It really would be! Interesting, heartbreak, and something that could make us really mad. Same though, it would suck to bring Finn back only to have him die. But I’m starting to wonder if the Rag and Bone Man’s story ending doesn’t mean he dies but rather it ends because his identity is revealed. I just think it’s going to be a really shocking reveal and that the answer to who it is is right in front of our faces and we don’t know it. Kind of like with Jaxon’s betrayal! It shocked me so much and then made complete sense. Like I couldn’t believe I didn’t figure it out sooner, you know? 😂

      72. There a lot that happened in the past to the voyants that seems to be playing a role in what’s happening now to the voyants, so it would be interesting to see more about certain character’s pasts for sure. I imagine it could give us more answers about current events.
I doubt him messing with Paige’s mind, her finding out and then being mad at him would be for the best, and I reckon Warden realises that as well. Paige is getting stronger with each book isn’t she? Especially after Warden taught her so much about her voyant abilities in the first book, so yeah I imagine she would definitely know the second he did it. Ohh, a good surprise, that’s even better. I think part of me is just so prepared for a whole book of heartache it seems weird that there may be happy parts in the story as well.
Well yeah the story ending could mean a lot of different things. It may be that the Rag and Bone Man’s story ends but Finn’s begins again, which would certainly be a unique take on the character and the situation. That was a shocking reveal. I wonder if, based on who it is, the RABM reveal could be even more shocking than that! 😀

      73. Exactly, especially with how Vance tried to recreate the Dublin incursion in Edinburgh. Seeing some of the same that happened in Bulgaria when Maria was still there and then Paige’s memories really tied that whole thing together. Seeing other’s memories could do the same and even possibly help them know their enemy better than they did before.
Warden messing with Paige’s mind definitely wouldn’t be a good thing and yeah I’m sure he realizes that. And yes, Paige is getting stronger and stronger with each book. We’re always learning something new about her voyance. That along with how she knows what is what like the first time he looked into her memories would definitely get him caught the second he pried. I’m trying to be hopeful. I mean no doubt TBS4 is going to smash our hearts but I’m betting we’ll get some good scenes along the way. Scenes that will make the heartbreak worse. 😅😂
So, my whole Rag and Bone Man theory crumbled and is no longer possible. I didn’t have internet the other day so in my boredom I went searching through my ebook copies of all three books. If Jaxon isn’t lying and the timeline is correct then the Rag and Bone Man became mime-lord before Hector was mime-king and before Jaxon was ever in Sheol I, way before the first rebellion (2039) and thus way before the Dublin Incursion (2046) so it couldn’t be Finn. RABM would have had to become mime-lord after 2046 for it to be Finn. Now I’m back to square one and my other previous theory doesn’t match up either at said character was born in 2031 and would have been 7. I have zero RABM theories but it’s such a big reveal that it has to be a character we know. 🤦 BUT on the bright side, it’s not Finn! And that’s what I’m wondering. I have a feeling it will be way more shocking than the Jaxon reveal.

      74. I reckon given Paige is on her way to Paris at the end of the third book it’s opening up the world for other cities and potentially we could go to Bulgaria and see more of Maria’s memories, or even meet up with Nick in Sweden/Stockholm/Switzerland (he’s somewhere beginning with S right?) and see more of his. There’s so much that happened in the past with the rebellion so I’d love to see more of that, and maybe even with some characters we haven’t met yet.
I wonder if she could someday potentially be stronger than Warden in terms of voyant powers. I mean maybe not on the same level because they’re different kinds of voyants but her gift is already a really powerful one so if she trained with it more could she eventually reach the stage where she’s advanced further than Warden can teach her. That would be interesting to see. God I think I’m going to need longer to prepare for the heartbreak than we originally though!
Oh, so I guess the Rag and Bone Man could potentially be the same age as Paige’s father? I mean it never said his age but seeing as Finn, or anyone really, wouldn’t have become a Mime Lord at 7 it has to be someone older, maybe it actually is Paige’s dad! Still it was an interesting theory, and yeah like you said it leaves the opportunity open for Finn to come back some other time, and potentially not die either if when the RABM’s story ends with his death. Well the Jaxon reveal was pretty shocking so it’s going to be tough to beat that!

      75. Oh I think it will definitely open the world up for other cities and I’m seriously hoping we see Bulgaria at some point. If not through the book and Paige going there then through Maria’s memories again. And I’m pretty sure Nick is going to Sweden. Which I have a strong feeling we’ll see at some point given the whole Sheol III possibility. Unless if they take down Sheol II in TBS4 and that ends up being the end of those. I would really love to see more of the past too and meet new characters! I also can’t wait until we see character we haven’t seen since TBS again. I need Julian and Michael to appear in TBS4.
See, I wonder that too! I do think she has the potential to be stronger than him. Though I think they’re both considered Jumpers even with the fact that Reph voyance is on a different spectrum than human voyance. I remember Paige saying something about Jaxon theorizing the existence of Warden’s voyance (which another clue to Jaxon’s eventual betrayal right there lol). But it would be really interesting if she advanced further than Warden could teach her. I know I need longer to prepare for the heartbreak. It’s going to take everything for me not to look at the ending whenever I get that book just because she said it’s going to be heartbreaking. Part of me wishes she hadn’t told us that because I’m scared for the ending. 😂
He could be, either the same age or a little older or younger. We never get his age but given that he was made mime-lord when Jaxon was possibly a teen and Jaxon is around 40 now he has to be way older. I mean he had to have to been older whenever Jaxon was younger… Add 10-15 years to “older” and I’m guessing he’s could even be way older than Paige’s father was. Honestly, I have the feeling he’s a Reph. I don’t feel like it’s that far out of left field anymore given the older age possibility. And I know Paige says in TMO he isn’t one but his aura was completely masked, you know? That and the fact that he knows so much about things that Reph keep secret. I’m sure even from humans that work for them. But either way I’m so glad that it leaves open Finn’s potential story line so 😂. Very true! It’ll be tough to beat but if anyone can beat their own shocking reveal it’s Samantha Shannon. 😊

      76. The series won’t stay in Paris that’s for sure, or go back to London anytime soon after what happened to Paige in TSR. It’s just trying to guess where the series will go next that’s the thing. I’m hoping even if we don’t see Bulgaria in person we do with Sweden, or wherever Nick is (basically I just want to see Nick again!) See I agree with that point but it almost feels like there are always going to be more Sheol’s and really in order for them to fully be defeated Paige will need I take down the Scion, not just their creations.
God yes we haven’t seen anything of Julian or Michael at all and I really want them to come back soon. I’m kind of interested in the other voyant communities Paige is going to discover in Paris, and potentially in Sheol II as well! 🙂
I think it would be an interesting development if Paige ended up being strong than Warden. Especially if it meant she needed to search out someone else who could teach her more about her powers because who would she have to go to to find that help. It’s going to take everything in me to resist that as well but I’m going to do it. This book is going to destroy me bit in going in blind when it comes to the ending! Which will probably make it worse.
So quite old, and potentially not some we’ve met before (you know, as a person rather than through the RABM moniker). I’m guessing it’s got to be someone we’ve at least heard of, so maybe a Reph maybe not. It’s got to be an epic reveal and it wouldn’t be as epic if it was a random character you know? I really need to re-read the series, it’ll likely give me a lot more theories on who he could be, and on a lot of other things as well. The masked aura leads to me to think either a Reph or a really powerful voyant. There are different levels of power and some we haven’t seen yet as well so it could be someone even more powerful than Paige.
        Yay for Finn’s returned potential.
Yeah I have no doubt she’ll manage it! 😀

      77. Oh it definitely won’t. I have a feeling whatever happens in TBS4 will lead them away from France quickly. Given the pattern I’m almost expecting TBS5 to be set in Sweden because of Nick and the potential for Sheol III. That and I’m with you about just wanting to see Nick again. We can’t have him gone for two books, I’ll be sad if that happens. True, there is that fact that for them to actually stop the Sheol’s they would need to take down Scion but really to take down everything that need to take down Nashira because she’s driving the whole movement. But I do wonder that in possibly taking down Sheol II if that will change things for future Sheol’s, mainly location. Even with that though they have inside people in the government now (Burnish and who knows who else) so… Exaclty! And I remember he saying we’re going to see characters from past books in TBS4 so I’m hoping two of them are Julian and Michael! I can’t wait to see the voyant communities Paige’s is going to see in Paris. I’m beyond excited for that. 😁
It would be interesting if she became stronger than Warden or not even stronger but more of his equal and he ends up teaching her all he can about her powers. I do think we’ll eventually have another dream walker appear. And if that happens there’s another teacher for Paige. I really want her to meet another dream walker. There has to be more. Same! It’s going to take everything for me not to look ahead too.
That’s what I’m thinking but I also have this feeling he’s either someone we’ve heard of or at least met in passing. Because you’re right it might not be as epic if it’s a character we don’t know at all. Just the more I think about the potential age of the character the more I think he isn’t human and completely hiding his identity and having someone else do his dirty work for him fits a Reph really well. And you should so re-read the series! True, he could be a really powerful voyant too because we haven’t seen someone more powerful than Paige as far as Human voyance goes. Either way, everything with the RABM is going to be interesting. 😁

      78. Oh yeah, I don’t think they’ll be in France for more than one book, depending on how big a part Sheol II plays in TBS4. I’d love it if book 5 was set in Sweden, I’d just love to see Nick again, it’s weird I already miss his character a little despite the fact TBS4 isn’t anywhere close to its release yet. I’ll be very sad if he’s gone for more than one book!
Things like that kind of make me think Paige may not even take down Sheol II in the fourth book. She may want to but at the same time she’s got to realise it won’t help in the long run to take down one camp while Nashira’s out there. Possibly, but that kind of thing can’t stay secret for long, especially with as many people as they have in the government.
I’m keeping my fingers tightly crossed for at least one of them (ideally both but I don’t want to be too greedy!)
I’d love to see another dream walker, or more people from the higher levels of clairvoyance. Can you imagine some of the things people would be able to do if they were more powerful than Paige is?!
Part of me would rather it be someone we’ve met in passing. I feel like that would have more of a punch than just someone we’ve heard of before you know? I think whether he’s human or Reph, young or old, Samantha Shannon will make it an epic reveal. I have faith in that much at least. Everything about the fourth book is going to be interesting. God I want it now! 🙂

      79. I think I remember seeing Samantha Shannon say that Sheol II is going to play a huge part in TBS4. But same I miss Nick already too even though we’re not close to having the 4th book. Here’s to hoping about TBS5! Even if it isn’t set in Sweden hopefully Nick will be back.
See, that’s what I started to think about too after I replied to your comment. Either that or what if she tries and fails to take down Sheol II. I mean I think it’ll end up being a huge part of TBS4 only because Paige always feels that injustice deeply and will want to save the voyants in Sheol II but it could go very wrong this time. And true, I think at some point Scion will find out about Burnish if they’re not already suspicious.
Me too! It would also be really cool if we end up meeting a voyant who has a power that no one has encountered before.
I actually can’t even imagine. Because if they’re more powerful than Paige then it’s going to be badass and possibly a little scary depending on whose side they’re on.
I agree, I’d rather RABM be someone we’ve met in passing. But yeah no matter what it’s going to be an incredible reveal. SAME! Honestly between all that we could find out and how it’s going to end I just really need TBS4.

        Liked by 1 person

      80. OK, so Sheol II is likely going to be more than a few chapters of them scouting the location. I wonder if maybe Warden gets taken into Sheol II, or maybe if we see someone else there like Finn or Julian. You can tell I really want to see those characters again!
I think it would be interesting if everything that happens at Sheol II doesn’t go well for Paige, I mean so far at the end of the day most things have; she escaped Sheol I and pretty much took t down, became Mime Queen over Jaxon and managed to destroy the shield Scion was trying to create. It took a lot of pain but she’s always come out on top.
I’d just love to see the voyant world expanded more than it has already been. I can’t imagine anyone more powerful than Paige but there’d likely be a few out there. It would be interesting seeing what side they came down on, though yeah scary if it was the wrong side.
I trust Samantha Shannon when it comes to the RABM reveal. It will be amazing! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      81. Yep, most likely! It would be interesting if Warden gets taken. If he does I could see, unlike Warden who didn’t rush after Paige TSR, Paige rushing in to save him. She has that impulse where he doesn’t and would definitely risk it. It would be amazing if we saw Finn or Julian there! My bets on Julian because if Finn is alive I don’t think he would be there. Either way, I saw Samantha Shannon say on her tumblr again today that we’ll be seeing some characters we haven’t seen in a while again so I have a feeling we’ll see Julian! 😃
Exactly! Given that in every book Paige has managed to come out on top, so to speak, there has to be a time coming where she doesn’t achieve what she sets out to achieve. Add that to the whole fact that this book is supposed to smash our hearts and I have a feeling she just might fail and shutting down Sheol II if she attempts to.
Me too! I know there’s more to this book world that we don’t know about yet, even more than just the Reph history that we’ll learn about later on. There has to be voyants out there stronger than Paige. It’ll be interesting to see how much she expands everything as the books keep going on.
I agree, that reveal is going to be incredible. I think I’m anticipating the RABM reveal more so than even the ending for TBS4 at the moment. Just because I’ve thought about it so much and want to know who he is already. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      82. See now I almost want to see him get taken. It would certainly be interesting to see how Paige does react. Part of me can see her rushing after him but another part of me can see her taking a step back and realising maybe going in straight away isn’t the best plan, especially if Terebell is there!
It probably is Julian in that case. Not that I’m complaining, I can’t wait to see Julian again, and it just means Finn’s potential reveal will be even more epic! (I’m pretty much 100% sure he is actually alive and out there somewhere)
If book four is going to smash our hearts I think Paige failing to stop Sheol II will only be part of it, like there’ll be so much heartbreak by the end Paige failing to stop Sheol II will feel like a walk in the park.
She’s expanding the world, sending Paige to Paris, so it almost makes sense she’d do the same with the world building.
I’m still a little hooked over the heartbreaking ending, but honestly, when it comes down to it, I’m looking forwards to everything TBS4 has to offer! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      83. Same! As terrible as it sounds I actually want Warden to get taken (though it’ll break my heart) so that we can see what Paige will do. Honestly I think even if Terebell is there Paige would go after him. I mean in TMO Terebell (in her own demanding way) asks Paige to find Warden. So I don’t think it would seem too suspicious if he got captured and she went after him. Mainly because she can find him easier than the others because of the golden cord.
I can’t wait to see him again too! I mean it’s been since near the end of TBS since we last saw Julian and it’ll be good to see Paige have a friend outside of Warden in Paris. But yeah, I think Finn’s potential reveal is going to be huge because I’m with you on 100% believing he’s alive.
Oh definitely, given that TBS4 is going to be a heart smasher I agree with you on the fact that Paige possibly failing to shut down Sheol II only being part of it. I’m honestly not prepared for whatever heartbreak Samantha Shannon is going to throw out way. Poor Paige can’t catch a break. 🙈
Me too. TBS4 is probably one of my most highly anticipated reads ever. I can’t wait until we get a cover or a blurb or a title. 😁

      84. Oh it’ll break my heart as well, but I almost feel like we’re overdue for Warden to be put in some kind of deadly danger. It hasn’t really happened yet (I don’t count what happened in TMO to be deadly danger TBH). Possibly, but I still think Paige would have to be careful in regards to finding Warden around Terebell. She seems like a sharp character and would likely guess something was going on if she had even the smallest hint of evidence.
It seems insane that it’s been that long. I loved Julian in the first book and honestly can’t wait to see him again. Here’s hoping he pops up soon in that case. Same with Finn, I wonder if the heartbreaking reveal in TBS4 could have something to do with Finn. I mean we talk about it a lot but getting actually confirmation he’s alive could be pretty epic if it was done right.
I almost feel like a main character will die, and I’m very worried for Nick at the moment now I’ve had that thought.

        Liked by 1 person

      85. I agree, Warden hasn’t really been put in any deadly danger. Unless you count that time in TBS whenever he came back and Paige gave him her blood so he wouldn’t die before Terebell could get there with what he needed. But even then he was saved pretty easily and quickly so yeah he’s overdue for something really bad to happen to him. That’s true. Though I do think Terebell already suspects, more than she’s even let on. I think she knows something is going on between Paige and Warden but isn’t acknowledging it because it’s Warden and she doesn’t think he would be that stupid.
Right? I can’t believe it’s been that long either. I can’t wait to see Julian again too. And I hope we get lucky and Michael appears also because I really miss his character. It would be interesting if the heartbreaking reveal has something to do with Finn. I feel like Finn has been so built up that once it’s revealed he’s alive it’s going to be really shocking or something.
That’s what I’m thinking! I have a sinking feeling a main character is going to die. I mean we haven’t had a major character death yet and it’s bound to happen sometime. And same about Nick. Either him or Zeke. I could honestly see it being Zeke.

        Liked by 1 person

      86. Oh yes I remember that time in TBS now you’ve mentioned it, but at the same time I don’t count that time because it was over in like a couple of pages/one chapter. When Paige was in danger in TSR it was for like the last third of the book. Sounds weird to say this but we nee to see Warden in prolonged danger. I know we don’t know all of what Terebell knows, I dunno though I feel she would have mentioned something, hinted something more if she knew about Paige and Warden.
God there are so many questions I have about where Julian and Michael have been, hopefully when we see them we’ll get those questions answered because I need to know! Finn is pretty much one of my favourite characters and we haven’t even met him, that’s how much we’ve talk about him! 😀 I feel it’s more likely to be Nick than Zeke, I just think if the cliffhanger in book four is as heartbreaking as Samantha Shannon has been hinting then Nick dying would be a massive blow to Paige, one she likely wouldn’t recover from.

      87. True. It was over so quickly that it wasn’t like Warden was in any real danger. Aside from that time the Rag and Bone Man captured him but even then he got out of that pretty quick thanks to Paige. The only reason I think she has a lot of suspicion is because of that time in TMO whenever she point blank asks Paige if anything is going on between them while holding her against a wall. Then how she acted in TSR. Who knows though? Maybe we’ll find out soon since we’re supposed to learn more about Terebell in TBS4.
Same! I have so many questions about both them too and what they’ve been up to since the end of TBS. Finn’s become one of my favorites too. Between us talking about him and how much he’s mentioned in the book I just want his reveal already. 🙈
Could be because you’re right, Nick dying would be something Paige wouldn’t recover from. It would be something that would shatter my heart for sure because Nick is one of my favorites.

      88. It feels like we’re almost building up to Warden being in danger for a lot longer, like maybe something that happens to Warden is part of the heartbreaking ending to TBS4, maybe Warden is the Rag and Bone Man?! I dunno, I feel like maybe she suspects but she doesn’t have any evidence to say for sure, if she did she would have done something to them regarding that. Maybe her sending Paige and Warden off to Paris together is going to turn out to be some kind of trap.
We definitely won’t have all our questions answered in the next book will we? There are still four more to go so you know there needs to be some questions left for the remaining books. Hopefully the Finn theories will be revealed sooner rather than later, same with Julian and Michael.
See now I’m really worried for Nick’s character! :/

      89. Oops, still an honest mistake and in the grand scheme of things the two countries are quite close together! 😀
Ohh, that could be really interesting. What if Nick gets caught and ends up being taken to Sheol III because of something he does in TBS 4. Maybe that could be part of the heartbreaking ended in store for book four!

      90. Very true, the only reason I realized was because I was rereading parts of TMO. (Because apparently this year I’m rereading TBS over and over instead of ACOMAF) 😂🙈
That’s what I was thinking! Nick being captured and taken to Sheol III would be heartbreaking and the perfect thing to lead into changing the setting for TBS5. We’ll just have to wait and see!

      91. Well both are amazing books, so be it TMO or ACOMAF you’re still re-reading great books! 😀
Definitely heartbreaking, but oh it would make for a very interesting TBS5 right? Also by the time we get to the fifth book you know our theories will have changed a hundred odd times! 😀

      92. Yep! 😁
It really would. Especially since last time it was Paige that was captured. Would be interesting to see it reversed for once lol. Even if it breaks my heart. Oh our theories will definitely have changed so many times between now and TBS5.
Also, did you see Samantha Shannon’s TBS4 emoji tweet today!? https://twitter.com/say_shannon/status/847727305828950016 She officially renewed my anxiousness for the book. 😅😂

      93. I feel it could be interesting if we saw Paige on the other side of it. Instead of the one being kidnapped and other people worrying for her someone she cares about being kidnapped and her having to do the worrying you know?
Yep, I saw that. I’m assuming there’s going to be a death at some point and of course we were already prepared for the heartbreaking end weren’t we? (Well as much as we can be prepared at the moment!)

      94. It would definitely be interesting. Part of me actually hopes it happens just because I want to see it reversed.
Same, I mean we’ve yet to have a more central character die that’s been around since book one so I’m expecting that at some point. And I am never prepared, more like embracing the knowledge that my hearts going to be broken by it either way. 😂

      95. It would be interesting seeing Paige in that position, losing someone she loved and having to work out how to free them again.
I never really thought about it that way, but it always seems like the things they fight against are bigger than life and death you know. It never really occurred to me that if they did die that would be the last we see of them.

      96. It really would.
You make a good point, it does seem like the things they’re fighting against are bigger than life or death. And even though I do figure, given their world is on the brink of a war so to speak, that sooner or later there’s going to be a really heartbreaking death I hadn’t thought about the fact that it could be possible that we would still see whoever dies again. I guess it depends if someone says the threnody. Like with Paige’s dad, no one said it for him so I think there’s a big chance we’ll see his spirit in future books.

      97. I think as well there hasn’t really been a main character death yet. I know they’re not but in my mind it’s kind of made them untouchable in a way. All it means now is that when we do get a character death it will be all the more heartbreaking to read!
Oh I am willing to put money on the fact that we will see Paige’s dad again. His story, especially in relation to Paige and their relationship, just feels unfinished at the moment.

      98. Oh it will definitely be even more heartbreaking to read when we get a character death now. Three books of building up an attachment to them and then they die. I’m going to need a supply of tissues in preparation for that.
It really does feel unfinished! I can’t wait until we see him again, it’ll be interesting for sure.

  4. So glad you liked it! I am a proud Bone Season junkie and I absolutely loved it. She’s so good at what she does, I can’t wait for it to be released so that everyone can get their hands on it. It was SO worth the wait.

    1. I’m pretty sure given how much I love this series I was guaranteed to love this book. 🙂 Samantha Shannon is an amazing author I agree and I can’t wait to see where the series goes next.
Here’s hoping everyone else loves this one as much as we did (though I’m sure they will!)

      1. She’s a lovely person too! I met her at her first ever book event, she fangirled with me over one of my tattoos. It was a beautiful moment.
Every review I’ve seen so far has been glowing, so it’s looking good!
