Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite YA Couples from Books I’ve Read in the Past Year Part Two

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is an all about romance freebie, so I picked Top Ten Favourite YA Couples from Books I’ve Read in the Past Year Part Two.

This time last year there was a Valentine’s Day themed freebie for Top Ten Tuesday week, so I chose to feature my top ten favourite couples from YA books. This year I thought it would be fun to go back and choose some new books I’ve read within the past year which feature my new OTP’s. After reading Crooked Kingdom and A Court of Mist and Fury, among others, I have plenty of more OTP’s from my new favourite books I need to talk about more.

Miel and Sam

“When they both realized they were heartbroken enough to want the love torn from their rib cages, they touched each other with their hands and their mouths, and they forgot they wanted to be cured.”

When the Moon Was Ours, Anna-Marie McLemore

Wylan and Jesper

Wylan leaned forward and kissed him. Jesper’s mind emptied. He wasn’t thinking of what had happened before or what might happen next. There was only the reality of Wylan’s mouth, the press of his lips, then the fine bones of his neck, the silky feel of his curls as Jesper cupped his nape and drew him nearer.

This was the kiss he’d been waiting for. It was a gunshot. It was prairie fire. It was the spin of Makker’s Wheel. Jesper felt the pounding of his heart—or was it Wylan’s?—like a stampede in his chest, and the only thought in his head was a happy, startled, Oh.

Slowly, inevitably, they broke apart. “Wylan,” Jesper said, looking into the wide blue sky of his eyes, “I really hope we don’t die.”

Crooked Kingdom, Leigh Bardugo

Feyre and Rhysand

“I fell in love with you, smartass, because you were one of us—because you weren’t afraid of me, and you decided to end your spectacular victory by throwing that piece of bone at Amarantha like a javelin. I felt Cassian’s spirit beside me in that moment, and could have sworn I heard him say, ‘If you don’t marry her, you stupid prick, I will.'”

A Court of Mist and Fury, Sarah J. Maas

Maya and Amar

“My star-touched queen,” he said softly, as if he was remembering something from long ago. “I would break the world to give you what you want.”

The Star-Touched Queen, Roshani Chokshi

Natalie and Beau

“It wouldn’t matter,” he says. “If we were in the same world, the one where Kincaid was in love with you, I’d still be here. If you wanted me, I’d be here.”

“Why?” I ask.

He hides a grin and runs his thumb over my lips. “I’m not sure the world and me are as complicated as you think, Natalie. I didn’t mean to choose you or anything. I just know if I only get to build one porch in my life, I’d like it to be yours, and if there’s one person I never have to hurt or disappoint, I’d want that to be you too.”

The Love that Split the World, Emily Henry

Marguerite and Paul

“Fate doesn’t guarantee us a happy ending. We’re not promised to be together no matter what. But in dimension after dimension, world after world, fate gives us a chance. Our destiny isn’t some kind of mystical prophecy. Our destiny is what we do with that chance.”

A Million Worlds With You, Claudia Gray

Nathan and Gabriel

“Later I wake and he’s asleep and I move over him gently to kiss across his chest and listen to his slow heartbeat, and I want to stay there, listening to his heart. I feel strange. I can’t remember ever feeling like this. I think I’m sort of happy.”

Half Lost, Sally Green

Yael and Luka

“There was so many things he could say to her.

I love you. I’m not afraid anymore.”

Blood for Blood, Ryan Graudin

Todd and Viola

His noise is getting quieter, but I can still see it there still—

See how he feels the skin of my hand against his, see how he wants to take it and press it against his mouth, how he wants to breathe in the smell of me and how beautiful I look to him, how strong after all that illness, and how he wants to just lightly touch my neck, just there, and how he wants to take me in his arms and—

“Oh, God,” he says, looking away suddenly. “Viola, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean—”

But I just put my hand to the back of his neck—

And he says, “Viola—?”

And I pull myself towards him—

And I kiss him.

And it feels like, finally.

Monsters of Men, Patrick Ness

Juliette and Warner

“Warner thinks I’m strong and smart and capable and he actually values my opinion. He makes me feel like his equal—like I can accomplish just as much as he can, and more. And if I do something incredible, he’s not even surprised. He expects it. He doesn’t treat me like I’m some fragile little girl who needs to be protected all the time.”

Ignite Me, Tahereh Mafi

And again, because like last year I couldn’t narrow my list down to just ten YA couples, I featured an eleventh who are probably my ultimate OTP at the moment. I feel like I definitely saved the best until last this year around.

Lila and Kell from the Shades of Magic series work so well together, and although they spent most of their time apart in A Gathering of Shadows they had some amazing scenes together. A Conjuring of Light is released soon (really, really soon. I can hardly stand the wait) and I desperately need to know what happens to both of them in the finale book of the trilogy.

A Gathering of Shadows

Lila and Kell

They danced in silence for several long moments, spinning together and apart, a slower version of their cadence in the ring. And then, out of nowhere, Lila asked, “Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why did you ask me to dance?”

He almost smiled. A ghost. A trick of the light. “So you couldn’t run away again before I said hello.”

“Hello,” said Lila.

“Hello,” said Kell.

A Gathering of Shadows, V.E. Schwab

So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know what you picked for this week’s themed free-for-all, or who some of your favourite fictional couples are.

    1. Oh I completely agree. It took the time to develop over the course of the first two books and definitely didn’t take away from the plot or their individual character development. I can’t wait for A Conjuring of Light now! 🙂
Thanks for the link. I’ll definitely check out your TTT.

  1. I love the Half Lost quote. It’s so simple yet very beautiful, makes me want to read the book ❤ I love Juliette and Warner just as well, and Lila and Kell – well… I am not ready to read that last book haha.

  2. I love these!!! I just finished AGOS last week and LOVED it. I love how subtle, yet passionate Kell and Lila’s relationship was. Feyre + Rhys are probably my favorite YA couple out there right now, I just can’t get enough of them. And of course, Jes and Wy are adorable! I love everything about this post 😀

    1. Thanks so much Alex, and oh I get what you mean. It took a while for Kell and Lila to build into something more but it was worth the wait. I am so excited for A Conjuring of Light!
Same here actually, I need more of both of them especially after A Court of Mist and Fury and how that book ended. Jes and Wy are probably my ultimate OTP from Six of Crows but I loved all the couples really! 😀

  3. Everyone is so determined to ruin Crooked Kingdom for me this morning 😂😂😂 I read a list earlier on that had a spoiler in it and now this one too! 😭😭😭😭 I agree about Juliette and Warner and Feyre and Rhysand though

    1. Oh Lauren I’m so sorry. I only realised when I saw your comment that I didn’t put a warning for potential spoilers on this post (I remembered it for last weeks TTT but not this one for some reason). I guess there’s no major spoilers in this quote, trust me I could have accidentally revealed way worse, and I’m sure you’ll still end up loving the book. This is only a small small quote, not the whole thing. 🙂
Yes, Juliette and Warner and Feyre and Rhysand are amazing couples aren’t they? 🙂 ❤

  4. Feyre and Rhys! That ACOMAF quote! I’m just sitting here and fangirling and wanting to reread all of my favorite parts of theirs from that book right now 🙈. I swear aside from Jamie and Claire from Outlander and Paige and Warden from TBS that OTP is one of my all time favorites. And Wylan and Jesper and Warner and Juliette! I’ve only read those three on your list but those two definitely take top OTP spots for me too. Also, you just made me want to read the Shades of Magic book even more. I probably should have averted my eyes since I haven’t read the first book yet but I couldn’t help it 😂. This is such a great list, Beth!

    1. I will admit writing this post and finding all the quotes I wanted for each couple have made me want to go back and re-read all these books just to experience all the romantic development all over again! 😀
I actually included Paige and Warner in my last year’s Top Ten Favourite Couples but I agree Feyre and Rhys are one of my ultimate favourite OTP’s as well.
In that case I’d highly recommend the other books on this list you haven’t gotten around to yet, and I know I’ve said it over and over again but YES you need to rad the Shades of Magic series. Don’t worry there’s no major spoilers in the quote I picked, I could have ended up revealing way more than I did. 🙂
Thanks so much Melissa! 😀 ❤

      1. I think that’s one of my favorite parts about rereading certain books. I mean of course I love the story but if I have a favorite ship then experiencing all of the romantic development again is great. 😊
Some of them, like When The Moon Was Ours, are definitely on my TBR for this year so hopefully I will be getting to them at some point. And I plan on getting to Shades of Magic as soon as I get through my review books. I really can’t wait to binge that series!
        You’re welcome, Beth!! 😁

      2. Exactly, and I think that’s one of the reasons I enjoy re-reading my favourite books over and over. It’s the anticipation of seeing the romance develop when you know somethings coming up isn’t it?
When the Moon Was Ours is amazing and you need to read it soon Melissa, and the same with Shades of Magic. The last book is being released so so soon and it will be the perfect opportunity to binge read it! 😀

      3. Yep! I actually did a speed reread of the Lux series recently just because of Katy and Daemon. 🙈
I am definitely reading the Shades of Magic books within the next two months. I actually have somewhat of a TBR – TSR, The Inexplicable Logic of My Life, a fluffy contemporary, Blood Rose Rebellion, and then Shades of Magic. 😁

      4. I may have to do some speed reads of some of my favourite books just for the romances! 😀
Ohh so in that case not too long until you can get around to Shades of Magic then. I really do hope you love the series as much as I do Melissa, you’ll have to let me know what you think as you read these books! 😀

      5. You should! It’s fun. 😁
Yep, not too long! I hope so too and I will definitely let you know what I think as I read them. I will be coming to both you and Reg with any type of freak out or fangirling I have over the Shades of Magic books for sure. 😂

      6. In that case I will be eagerly awaiting your freak out/fangirling for this series then. I managed to get my hands on a copy of A Conjuring of Light yesterday and oh it’s so beautiful. I can’t start it yet but I can’t wait to get around to it! 😀

  5. Wouuu Todd and Viola!!! 😀 Definitely a fantastic list of books for this top ten! 6 more days for A Conjuring Light!!! I can’t imagine your excitement for this. I mean, I haven’t even read the first two books yet and somehow your fangirling has me super-hyper for you hahahaha 😛 Looking forward to your thoughts on that book. Might be the last push before I buy the whole trilogy in one shot. 😀 😀

P.S. Since it’s/it was Valentine’s Day, we decided to do something special and make a post to thank some of our favourite bloggers! Yep! You’re among those amazing people! 😀 Thank you so much for always checking out our content and dropping a word or two whenever you feel like sharing your thoughts. Totally appreciate it and always a pleasure to see you around! 😉

    1. I loved Todd and Viola, you kind of knew no matter what happened in the series they’d always come back to one another. 🙂 And thanks so much Lashaan.
I can’t believe it’s only six more days. It honestly feels so surreal after having waited for it for so long but I just need this book in my hands right this second. Ha, that’s a sure sign I really have been hyping this series up. I’d highly highly recommend it, without having read the third book I know it’s going to be amazing! 😀
Oh that’s a great idea, and thanks so much for mentioning me as well. Of course I’ll stop by and check out your post! Thanks for the link. 😀

  7. THIS KILLS ME, BETH! Literally swooning all over the place. You know how I feel about Rhys and Feyre, but I’m so glad you mentioned Todd and Viola – for me they’re one of the ultimate YA couples. Patrick Ness took such time to develop them together and individually and URGH he wrote them perfectly. Great post! 💛

    1. That’s how I felt finding all these quotes. I really want to go back and re-read all the books I featured just so I can re-live the romance all over again. 😀
Feyre and Rhys are one of my ultimate OTP’s so I feel the same way 🙂 and I loved Viola and Todd as well. You kind of knew throughout the series no matter what those two would stick together and I loved it. They were amazingly developed characters, and Patrick Ness is just a brilliant author isn’t it?
      Thanks Sammie! 😀

    1. They’re all amazing couples aren’t they? In fact writing this post really made me want to go back and re-read all the books I featured just to read the developing relationships all over again. 🙂
Oh I know the feeling. My TBR is a hot mess as well but Crooked Kingdom will be worth the wait, trust me! 😀

    1. Oh they really are, I kind of want more from their POV and to see more of them after the ending of Crooked Kingdom.
Same here, I was a Feyre/Tamlin shipped while reading A Court of Thorns and Roses but I soon saw the error of my ways and now it’s all about Feyre and Rhysand for me! 😀
YES Lila and Kell are my ultimate favourites as well, I think in part because the Shades of Magic series is one of my favourites. Thanks so much Kate! 😀 ❤

      1. We should petition Leigh Bardugo for a Jesper/Wylan-centric spin-off. 😀 I never really shipped Tamlin and Feyre because I felt uncomfortable about the way he forced her to come and live with him against her will, so when Rhys came along I was pretty pleased/relieved/happy! Lila and Kell are just my dream team. I’m reading AGOS right now and I just ❤ ❤ ❤

      2. Yes that would be amazing. Even if it was just a novella or something I need more Jesper/Wylan!
I didn’t really notice those dynamics between the two of them must when I first read ACOTAR but after reading some reviews and looking back I kind of picked up on it more. I hated him by the beginning of ACOMAF and was so glad why Rhys came along.
It’s an amazing book isn’t it? And it’s not long until A Conjuring of Light is released. I am so beyond excited for that book! 😀 ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      3. I am so here for a novella about those two! And yeah, I think the abusive aspects of their relationship were narrated quite subtly in the first book and disguised by nice gestures, but by ACOMAF it becomes so obvious that Tamlin is controlling and just not a good guy.
I am loving every page and every word of it! And there’s only a week to go until A Conjuring of Light! *screams*

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Maybe one day we’ll get one then.
Yes I was definitely taken in by the nice gestures which kind of disguised the abuse a little but it was obvious in ACOMAF, and even reading some of the reviews other people wrote for ACOTAR it was becoming obvious to me actually.
I can’t believe it’s so close now. I’m so excited. It feels both like too long and not long enough you know?
