The Happiness Tag

I like to think I’m a generally happy person. I mean I have my down days, doesn’t everyone, but compare the me of today to me the me of three years ago and I can admit I am so much happier now than I was then. I was tagged by Izzi at Ravenclaw Book Club. Thanks so much for the tag Izzi, I had a lot of fun with this one and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much.

No rules for this one, it’s just a couple of lists of things that make me happy.

List Five Things That Make You Happy

  • The feeling when…I’ve come home from a long day at work, or just a long day out and about, and I can finally relax. I get changed into my pyjamas, take out my contact lenses, turn on my TV so I can play one of my favourite DVDs and turn on my laptop so I can start reading or blogging.
  • The feeling when…I see my friends again after a long time not seeing them. Granted we all live quite close but because of our jobs and families and other real life obligations we don’t get to see each other all that often. I speak to them pretty much every day, but can go months without seeing them in person sometimes.
  • The feeling when…I’ve been out for a couple of hours with my family and my dog is really excited to see us come home again. Tommy is a retired greyhound and can be very lazy, but if there’s been no one at home with him the second we walk up to the front door he races to wait in the hall, and then when we open the door he’s jumping out at us and just looking so happy to see us all back home again.
  • That feeling when…I’m about to leave on holiday someone new. Whenever I go away on holiday I always seem to have an early flight at the crack of dawn so by the time I get to the airport I’m always shattered, but there’s nothing quite like that feeling of knowing soon you’ll be in a completely different country preparing to have amazing adventures.
  • The feeling when…I’ve got something to look forwards to. It doesn’t have to be a big something, in fact most times its just the idea of walking down to Oxford Street after work and spending some money, but it’s the thought of it that gets me through work, through the long week. Sometimes the anticipation is better than the event itself.

Obviously I didn’t include book but I have a book blog so it should be pretty obvious books are something that make me happy.

List Five Songs That Make You Happy

  • Busted – That’s What I Go to School For
My sister used to love Busted, in fact I’d say she was obsessed with them when she was younger, and as such they were the first band I saw live. Whenever I hear this song, which admittedly isn’t that often, I always think of my sister and it always makes me smile.
  • Muse – Time is Running Out
The first time I heard this song I was in Milan with my parents. It was just the three of us and it was the first time I’d been to Italy; a country I’d always wanted to visit. Basically I had a great time and this song always reminds me of that  holiday. Later this was the first band I saw live with one of my best friends.
  • Paramore – Misery Business
Way back when when I was in Sixth Form our Common Room, where we could hang out in between classes, had a CD player so of course everyone would create mixes to play. This song was pretty much on all of them and it reminds me of being back there; playing card games and spending hours chatting with my friends.
  • Pharrell Williams – Happy
This is one of my mum’s favourite songs by one of her favourite artist, I think she has a little crush on Pharrell if I’m being honest, so anytime I hear it I think of my mum.
  • Fall Out Boy – Sugar, We’re Goin Down
Of course I had to include Fall Out Boy on here somewhere. They’re my favourite band so anytime I hear one of their songs it always makes me happy, and Sugar, We’re Goin Down was actually the first song by them I ever heard so it’s special in that way as well.

  1. Nice post, although let me share a song that ALWAYS puts me in a good mood, Avenged Sevenfolds “Bat Country”. Check it out, you might like it too!

  2. Ohhh love your answers. Looking forward to ANYTHING is really a perfect answer. Especially when it’s really just a little thing that seems meaningless to others! Also always a wonderful feeling of relief and happiness when you get home after work/school/whatever and have absolutely NOTHING hanging over your head. Ahh…. Just the thought of it… *rushes back to work on his school projects*

    1. Thanks so much, looking forwards to anything no matter how big or small is always something that makes me happy. It gives me something to aim for when life is too stressful and I just want to hide from the whole world.
Having nothing hanging over your head should be a happiness category all of it’s own. (I hope your school projects go well too!) 🙂

  3. This is such a cute tag! And your answers are 10/10 🙂 It’s so nice to see some of the things that make you happy. I can see that you really enjoy the smaller things in life as well as the large. Relaxation, a dog’s excitement, travelling, reuniting with old friends, and simply having something to look forward to are all such wonderful origins of happiness. And I absolutely love your song choices. Muse, Paramore, and Fallout Boy are some of my favorite bands. I love Muse’s Resistance album but Time is Running Out is an amazing song. And I love Mosery Business for introducing me to Paramore (probably my favorite band, tbh). Sugar, We’re Going Down was my first Fallout Boy song, as well, so it’s definitely got some great feels attached to it. Thanks so much for tagging me in this one! Can’t wait to see what I can come up with 😀

    1. Thanks so much Azia. I tried to think of things other than belongings mainly because when I think of what makes me happy the first things that do come to my mind are the things I mentioned rather than actual belongs. (Owning books makes me happy but I have a book blog so that should be obvious you know?)
My dog always makes me happy, even when he’s being stubborn and kind of annoying I still love him so so much! ❤
Thanks again so much. Fall Out Boy are an all-time, ultimate favourite of mine, and no matter what Paramore always reminds me of my sixth form years with all my high school friends. (Misery Business was actually the song that introduced me to Paramore as well.)
That's all right, I can't wait to see what you pick for this one Azia! 😀 ❤

      1. You make an excellent point! Material objects ARE usually the first things we think of, but there are so many other things that bring us happiness. I’m so glad you noticed some of the immaterial things that bring you joy.
I’ll forever be a Paramore and Fall Out Boy fan haha. They’re SO good.
        Thanks, Beth! ❤

      2. Thanks Azia, and yeah there are material objects that bring me happiness but usually the first thing I think of in terms of what makes me happy are memories I have. A lot of them are just me sitting at home with my friends or family rather than say that fact that I own a load of books. 🙂

  4. I need to borrow that tag, we need all the happiness possible on every blog these days!! I loved your answers.
I totally agree with the party your dogs throws when you’re back after having left him. My mom’s dog is deaf and she’s gonna sit by the window THE ENTIRE TIME and as soon as she sees us she starts jumping everywhere and it is the best “welcome home”.

    1. If you wanna take part in this one as well feel free. I guess we could all use some happiness every now and again.
Thanks Donna, and yeah there’s nothing like seeing how excited your dog gets when you’re home again. With Tommy (my dog) as soon as one of us opens the door a crack he’s sticking his nose in the gap trying to get to us sooner. It’s so nice to see when I’m coming home after a long day out! 😀

  5. What a happy fun tag! I can agree with you the feeling of going on vacation is a wonderful high. Going on vacation is one of the things I want to do right now!
It’s funny, the song Happy, actually makes me angry I hate listening to it. I have no idea why, but I always turn it off when I hear it. I am strange. 😛

    1. It was a lot of fun to take part in, and a great way to promote a little happiness as well! 😀
Same here, I could really use a vacation from work and real life, and there’s just nothing like the excitement that comes with boarding a plane ready to fly to somewhere new and interesting.
Oh that is weird, and probably not what the song intends, but I have songs that do that to me so I get where you’re coming from. 🙂

  6. Awww this is such a positive tag. I love how it really makes you think about the little things that make you happy. I’m at home a lot (a side effect of working from home) but I love the feeling of coming home after a long day out too and how excited my dog gets. Also, having something to look forward to is always the best. And I officially have Misery Business stuck in my head. It makes me all nostalgic for middle school and I know the words by heart. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that song lol. Same goes for Sugar, We’re Goin Down by Fall Out Boy. I think I’m going to go listen to both on repeat now. Great answers, Beth!! 💕😊

    1. Yeah it was great to take part in it and talk a little about what makes me happy. There’s a lot more I didn’t put on the list but these are the main ones I think.
Ahh, see that must be nice. I work in London so I have a really long commute and at the end of the day there’s just nothing like arriving home again. And yeah my dog always makes things a little better if I’m ever feeling down.
I’ve been listening to it a lot, and Fall Out Boy as well. I have a playlist of all the songs we played on repeat during sixth form so I’ve had that on repeat since I posted this tag pretty much. 🙂
      Thanks Melissa! 😀 ❤

      1. It’s nice for the most part but it can be really unpredictable work availability wise. There can be days where I don’t have work which is terrible for my paycheck. But I know how a long commute feels from my previous job so I get exactly what you mean about it being great finally getting home at the end of the day. More of a reason why teleportation should exist. To cut work commute times.
I bet that brings back a lot of memories. I have a few playlist like that too.
        You’re welcome, Beth!! 😊♥

      2. Oh that’s a shame. One good thing that makes up for the long commute is I do have that predictability I guess. I always know where I am and what I’m doing each day which may get boring but at the moment I enjoy it so there’s that. 🙂
God when the trains are messed up (which seems to be most days actually) I could really use teleportation powers! 😀

  7. I love this tag! It’s definitely a great feeling to come back home after a long day of work, knowing you’ve got the entire time to yourself to do whatever you want to do. I also really love that feeling when you’re traveling somewhere new — I enjoy adventures and like discovering new things so much, and I can’t wait for my next trip. Great answers, Beth. 💕

    1. It was a good one to be able to take part in, and yeah based on the comments that seems to be one everyone can identify with. Nothing like coming home after a long day and being able to do nothing all evening! 😀
I think the adventure aspect is why I try and go on so many holidays! There’s nothing quite like it is there?
      Thanks Reg! 😀 ❤

    1. Thanks so much, and yeah this is an amazing way to spread a little happiness isn’t it?
I’ve been listening to it a little more since posting this. I have a playlist on my iPod with songs from my sixth form days which has been on repeat ever since! 😀

    1. Thanks so much Sammie! And yeah we can pretend that’s why I posted it in January rather than the fact that I’m so behind on my tags this was the first opportunity I had to get to it! 😀
Holidays are always lovely, a break from work and real life, and there’s nothing quite like my dog either! 😀
That’s all right, I can’t wait to see your answers for this one Sammie! 🙂

  8. Thank you very much for the tag! It’s such a great idea. I can very much identify with your answers. Coming home today after work and hanging out in my PJs made me so happy. I loved listening to Misery Business. It totally takes me back as well. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to it.

    1. That’s all right, I’ll be looking forwards to seeing your answers for this one as well then. 🙂
I guess that’s something that makes everyone happy in a way, the end of the day when you can relax at home once more. I’ve been listening to it more since posting this. I have a Playlist of songs from my sixth form days which I’ve been playing on repeat pretty much! 😀

      1. All of my music used to be on mine but now I don’t have room. I have to pick which ones I absolutely must have and Spotify makes it easier for me.
