Liebster Award

This is actually the fourth time I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award, but the questions are always different and I always have so much fun answering them that I didn’t mind doing it again. I was tagged by Grace at Kimmie.gg. Thanks so much for the tag Grace, I had a lot of fun answering these questions and I hope you enjoyed reading them as much.

The Liebster Award

Rules:

  • Acknowledge the blog that nominated you and display the award.
  • Answer 11 question that the blog gives you.
  • Give 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 5-11 blogs you think are deserving of the award that have less than 200 followers.
  • Let the blogs know you have nominated them.
  • Give them 11 questions to answer.

Grace’s Questions

  1. Why did you begin blogging?

The main reason, the only reason actually, was because I needed people to talk to about the books I read. I read really quickly compared to my friends so when I’d finished what had become a new favourite book of mine none of my friends had even started on it. I figured if I started blogging then there’d always be at least one person in the blogosphere who’d read whatever book I wanted to rave about and would be willing to talk to me about it.

  1. What’s your favourite movie and why?

The Mummy. I’m not sure why but I’ve loved it ever since I first saw it and of all the movies I own, which is a lot but still nowhere close to the amount of books I own, it’s the one I’ve re-watched the most as well. Most evenings I’ll put the DVD on and play The Mummy in the background while I’m reading or blogging.

the-mummy

  1. Where is your next travel destination?

I’m not actually quite sure. If my friend is still up for it I may be heading to Amsterdam over the Easter weekend, but if she isn’t I am in the process of booking Krakow with my sister, my mum and one of my mum’s friends. Just depends on my friend which one of these holidays will come first.

next-travel-destination

  1. What is an item on your bucket list?

There are a lot of items on my bucket list but one I added recently (because me and my sister are planning a trip there next year) is to go sky diving over the Palms in Dubai. That’s one I’ll be able to cross off soon-ish.

  1. Where do you buy most of your books from?

It used to be Amazon but recently I’ve been buying more from Waterstones for a few reasons. One is that I discovered the Piccadilly Circus branch of Waterstones which is the biggest and best of them all. Two is that I don’t have to wait for my books to be dispatched and delivered after I’ve brought them, I can just walk out the shop and start reading them the same day. Finally three is that they do Reward Points cards, so every time I spend £10 I get a stamp and when I get ten stamps I get £10 off my next purchase; it’s basically an incentive to buy there more than anywhere else.

  1. If you could give advice to your 10 year old self, what would it be?

You won’t keep any of the friends you made in primary school, but that’s OK because you’ll make better ones in high school who you will remain friends with for life.

  1. Who is your role model? (Can include fictional characters as well)

I wouldn’t say I have role models when it comes to historical or famous people, or fictional characters even, the people I look up to the most are probably my friends and family so I guess you could say they’re my role models.

  1. What career path is your ideal choice?

In an ideal world it’s to be a journalist. However I am not sure if that will ever happen because I have no clue where I’d even begin trying to find a job in that field. In my current job I have no idea where my career path is taking me but it’s something I’m trying to work out at the moment.

  1. If life handed you lemons, what would you do with them?

Keep them and use them to make baked goods; cupcakes, cookies, cakes, etc. I’m not going to turn my back on free lemons.

  1. What is your earliest memory?

I have no idea how old I am but I’m sitting in the front of a double pram with my sister in the back, so I’m guessing I’m two and a half, maybe three but no older than that. Our mum is pushing us and it’s raining outside so there’s a protector over the pram to shield us from the rain, and we’re just waiting to cross the road, and that’s pretty much it.

  1. If you had a superpower, what would it be and why?

I’d love to have teleportation. The main reason is because at the moment I have an hour and a half commute to work each day, there and back, and I just think if I could teleport I could go from home to work and back again in a second and it would give me so much spare time. Also on days like today when there are tube strikes on which adds an hour to my journey, on top of the hour and a half each way it already is, teleportation would just take all the hassle out of getting to work on time.

Random Facts About Me

  1. I have a pretty good head for numbers which I like to think makes up for the fact that my memory for names is terrible. Either way being good with numbers certainly comes in handy in my job.
  2. I am either the messiest and most disorganised person you will ever meet, or the cleanest and most organised person you will ever meet; there is literally no in between.
  3. While I am very on top of new books I am really not on top of new TV series. I have a list of TV shows I need to get around to watching but instead I’ll choose to re-watch episodes of old favourites I’ve already seen more than a few times.
  4. I enjoy walking; if it’s a choice between walking, driving and public transport nine times out of then I will choose to walk to wherever it is I’m going.
  5. However I hate running with a passion. If you see me running chances are you should start running too because there is something very bad happening behind me.
  6. I pretty much love all animals in the world except geese due to a very traumatic incident when I was still in primary school.
  7. Currently I have an obsession with candles. They don’t even have to be bookish candles, though I do love those, if it smells pretty and you can light it on fire then I want it.
  8. I love music, in fact on a long journey I’d rather leave my Kindle at home and not have a book to read than leave my iPod behind.
  9. I love writing lists, I will write a list for pretty much anything and everything I have to do, so I’m going to try bullet journaling soon. I’ve seen pictures of other people’s bullet journals and they look so pretty I want to try it myself.
  10. A previous fact of mine was that I made it 25 years without breaking a bone in my body. Then I broke my toe in the most ridiculous way possible, by stubbing it on my bed.
  11. I never learnt how to do a cartwheel as a child and now I’m older I still can’t do one. I try, and it’s really embarrassing when my little cousins are cartwheeling all over the place and I’m not, but I just worry too much about falling flat on my face I can’t even convince myself to try it even once.

My Questions

  1. How did you come up with the name for your blog?
  2. Is there anything that annoys you about blogging, if so what is it and why?
  3. What is the weirdest dream you can remember having?
  4. If you could take the place of one bookish character in their story, who would it be and why?
  5. What is the one thing, other than your phone/kindle/laptop/iPod, that you couldn’t live without?
  6. Pick one word to describe the last book you read?
  7. What’s the most fascinating thing you’ve encountered this week?
  8. Who is your favourite person in all of history, dead or alive, and why?
  9. If you had to give up one of your senses, which one would you choose?
  10. What’s your favourite poem?

  1. Congrats on the tag! Grace actually disappeared from the blogosphere. Funny to see her being mentioned after so long! 😛 Are you excited for the Mummy remake, part of the whole Universal Monsters shared universe? I can tell you now that I am not.. especially after that trailer and the fact that Tom Cruise is the lead now (I’m not a big fan of “acting”) :/ Ohhhh, so much can be done with teleportation too! *schemes evil plans* That toe incident sounds awful.. Hope it’s all healed up now!

    1. Thanks so much, and yeah I noticed that as well but I am so behind on tags I’m only just getting around to the ones she tagged me in!
I saw the trailer for it and I’m not really impressed. I guess for me the original Mummy film will always be THE Mummy film for me. I may watch it one day but I don’t think it will be as good.
Ha, I never actually thoughts of any evil plans but you could totally do a lot with teleportation couldn’t you.
Yeah all healed now thanks, just an embarrassing story. 🙂

  2. Thank you for the tag! Right when I was wondering what to do for next Sunday 😀 You read my mind!
I think I’ve never broken a bone in my body… yet *knocks on wood*
I love candles but I don’t have lots of space to put them at the moment so I’m just enjoying the fireplace and getting lost in the flames, haha. I used to be so on top with TV shows, then I remembered books and .. well xD

    1. That’s all right, and I guess in that case this came at the perfect time! 🙂
That is lucky, and hopefully that luck will last a bit longer as well. I wish I could say the same. Or at least have a better story about my first broken bone.
I wouldn’t say I have space for all of mine but I manage to fit them all somewhere so it’s whatever works at the moment, and I still wanna buy more! 😀

  3. Congrats on your award, Beth! Bless your heart, The Mummy is my favorite movie, too! And I cannot for the life of me figure out why lol. It’s not the best movie out there, but it’s got a certain charm I can’t get enough of. I watch it whenever it comes on, and usually I leave it playing in the background when I’m reading, baking, or just walking around the house. And both the first and second movies are the first ones I bring along with me if I’m going away on holiday LOL XD

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks so much Azia. Yeah I’m not sure why either. I’ve watched it the most out of all the DVDs I own but I’m not too sure what it is about it that keeps me going back to it again and again. I think it’s definitely the perfect movie to act as background noise while something else is going on isn’t it? 🙂

      1. It most certainly is haha 😀 It’s my mom’s favorite, too, but we just can’t explain why. I think it’s just the perfect cheesy horror action comedy film haha. It’s got all the genres you need XD

        Liked by 1 person

      2. LOL. I’m the opposite. I absolutely love horror films. Mostly slasher films, though. The paranormal ones freak me out too much. I can’t do things like The Exorcist or Paranormal Activity. Too scary!

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Ohh no, I’m even the opposite to that! If I have to watch a horror film I will always choose paranormal over slasher. I just can’t stand the blood.
I was all right watching Paranormal Activity for example but I watched the whole of one of the Saw films through my fingers.

        Liked by 1 person

      4. LOL XD Funny how that works. I can’t stand demonic things. makes my skin crawl.
Paranormal was actually okay. The only part that really got me was the flour footprints for some reason haha. The ones that freaked me out the most were The Conjuring movies. I can do Saw but I have my limits for some of the torture scenes. Those movies can be a bit extreme lol

        Liked by 1 person

      5. I’m not going to say Paranormal Activity didn’t freak me out, it really really did, but I still prefer the demonic activity to the blood in films like Saw. It was too much for me. I’ve never seen The Conjuring. The horror film which freaked me out the most was Silence of the Lambs, which I saw when I was ten so you can kind of imagine why it scared me so much.

        Liked by 1 person

      6. The Conjuring movies are in another league of scary. They just make you uncomfortable the entire movie. I was on edge the entire time. And I was afraid of the dark for some time after watching them. That hasn’t happened to me in a LONG time.

Silence of the Lambs is so disturbing, but I love it. My goodness. Seeing it that young can scar you for life LOL

        Liked by 1 person

      7. Well it’s safe to say I am not planning to watch them. If I can I will avoid horror movies like the plague. I’d rather watch fantasy films or Disney films than something I know is going to scare the crap out of me.
It definitely scarred me. I had nightmares for weeks afterwards and my mum was not impressed that I saw it that young either.

  4. I love that image of you having The Mummy on the background while you’re doing other stuff! I don’t think I’ll be able to do the same – horror movies freak the hell out of me, and my idea of comfort is more like Friends or a rom-com or a comedy. 😛

I wish I had gone to Piccadilly Circus’s Waterstones when I was in the UK! I still have my loyalty card and they still send me newsletters. Teleportation would be my superpower choice as well so I could visit that bookstore and solve many of my life’s problems.

I’m so excited for you to start bullet journaling! I hope you’ll have fun doing it. ❤

    1. It’s pretty much on all the time. My TV repeats DVDs when they end so if I’m really immersed in blogging it can have looped and played two or three times without me properly realising. 🙂
I wouldn’t say The Mummy was a proper horror film. I’m normally a wimp when it comes to horror as well so I’d say this is more light horror.
If you ever come to London again make sure you go to the Piccadilly Circus branch. It’s five/six massive floors filled with books aka heaven on Earth. 😀
If you could teleport you could travel to all the worlds best bookstores. How amazing would that be?!
I hope so too. I just need to find the perfect notebook to get started with. 🙂

  5. I loved reading your answers! It’s always fascinating to try and think of what our first memories are, I don’t really remember mine, so that’s awesome you remember that!
I want to start bullet journaling too, because I am the same I love making lists for everything haha! It feels so good once you get what you set out to do done! 😀

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks so much Meghan. And yeah it’s always interesting looking that far back. I can’t remember a lot but there are just some parts that are really clear to me still.
Oh it definitely does, plus I think bullet journaling just looks so pretty. Not sure mine will be as pretty as some you see out there but I guess it’s a learning experience isn’t it? 🙂

      Liked by 1 person

      1. You’re welcome! I feel you, I have clear memories but a the same time they have no context so I don’t actually know where they fit into my life haha!
It does, and I keep hearing people talk about bullet journaling, I swear it’s a huge thing for 2017. I definitely think it’s a learning experience! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      2. It’s weird how that happens isn’t it? How you can remember some things really clearly but others not at all. Creates some interesting parts of memories at the very least! 🙂
It does seem to be around a lot more recently than before. I’m not sure why but it’s definitely a bandwagon I’m jumping on! 😀

  6. I loved reading your answers so, so much, Beth! Also, how hard is it to actually figure out what you want to do? I know I can’t, haha. It’s so hard to let go of the dream jobs and the life I imagined I’d have right now, but well, we can just hope for the best I guess ? 🙂
I love candles so, so much as well, and making lists. I’d love to start bullet journaling as well, however I think I’d be mad because I don’t have the artistic talent to make it as pretty as you see it on tumblr and everything, haha 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks so much Marie! I found it really hard, and honestly I think now I’m just looking to make the job I do now and the job that I enjoy my dream job you know? I don’t think this is the life I imagined when I was growing up but I guess that can be said for most people can’t it?
I’m not sure I’d be amazing at bullet journaling either, I guess it’s just something you’ve got to get started on and keep going at; a practice makes perfect kind of thing. 🙂

      1. Very hard, but I think you’ll get there eventually. It took me a while to find a job after uni that I was happy in. There’s no rush, take your time finding something you enjoy rather than just something you’re settling for.
Definitely something we can work towards! 😀

  7. I loved reading all of your answers so much, Beth!!
Skydiving in Dubai sounds like a lot of fun. Weirdly enough I used to always say I would never want to do things like skydiving, hang gliding, rock climbing, and ect but mostly everything on my bucket list involves adrenalin type things like that. I watched Point Break and they jumped off a mountain while wearing this thing that made them glide and I’d definitely try that one day. With a parachute of course lol. 🙈
Also, I love how you said if life gave you lemons you would bake 😂. And I am completely with you on teleportation. If I could have any power it would be that too because then I could travel for free. It would be amazing.
I’m also completely obsessed with candles too. Regular candles, bookish candles. I need them all! I spent so much on candles over fall and the holidays it’s not even funny.
Thanks so much for the tag! I can’t wait to answer your questions. 💕😁

    1. Thanks so much Melissa, I’m glad you enjoyed me answers for this award! 😀
Ohh that sounds quite scary. I always used to the say the same regarding sky diving and things like that just because I’m scared of heights, but now I just think you only live once so it’s worth doing just to experience it for yourself.
If life gives me anything I’d try and bake it. 😀 And yeah teleportation would be amazing, you could travel halfway across the world in the blink of an eye and there’d be no limitations would there?
Wow that must have been a lot of money. I got some candles for Christmas, and one of those wax melt things, so I should be good not needing to buy any for myself for a while! 🙂
That’s all right, I can’t wait to see your answers for this one! 😀 ❤

      1. You’re welcome!! 💕
It does but possibly a fun scary just because the scenery was gorgeous at the place they did it for the movie I watched lol. That’s very true. Life is definitely too short to not try all of the new things that you can.
Exactly! No waiting in lines or waiting to save up money. You want to go somewhere? Poof you’re there. 😃
It was but most of my candle shopping took place on black friday so I think I got some good deals. But I’m on a candle buying ban for the foreseeable future. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Fun scary is definitely the best way to describe this film I think. I laughed more times than I jumped/screamed.
Exactly, I don’t want to be old an regret not doing things while I was younger and had the opportunity to.
The no waiting in lines is a major bonus as well, I hate queuing!
Ohh you must have got some good deals then, and I’m guessing you got enough for the foreseeable future as well right? Hopefully your candle buying ban works better than my book buying ones do! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Same here! I don’t want to regret not doing something. Which means I really need to start saving up for traveling lol.
        Me too. Lines are terrible.
Yep! A lot of good deals and hopefully enough to last. So far it’s going way better. I haven’t bought a candle at all this month. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      4. The best time to do it is when you’re young. The only thing that’s actually holding me back is money. I’m trying to save for so many things now I can’t really afford to do anything each month once I’ve gotten paid!
Well that’s something at least. How many do you still have now then? 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      5. Money is holding me back too. Except my problem is that I’m terrible at saving and work has been on and off since the holidays. Plus bills. I wish I could back to a time to where I didn’t have bills. 😂
In total I have 30+ but several of them are nearly empty. 🙈

        Liked by 1 person

      6. I’m trying to be better at savings and I have a plan in place to try and achieve that but I know some months are going to be harder than others just because of bills and things like you said.
Still 30+ is a lot of candles, even if some are almost empty! 😀

  8. I love The Mummy, it’s such an amazing movie! I have watched it sooo many times, though it’s been a while since I last saw it – definitely should watch it some time soon again.
I would love to go to Amsterdam as well, I have heard that it’s beautiful. I have no idea why I have never traveled there, especially since I have a cousin who lives there and I could stay at her place. I do hope to change that in the future.
I love your advice to you 10 year old self! It’s basically the same I would say to mine. 😀
Teleportation would be amazing to have. I can only imagine how easier my life would be, plus it would be wonderful to be able to travel wherever I want. Have you seen the movie Jumper? I’m basically imagining it like that (without people chasing me that is).
    Great post! 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m actually watching it right now (well, I say watching I’ve got it in the background as I reply to comments!) but yes you should definitely watch it again. I think it’s one of those movies that just doesn’t get old. It certainly is for me!
I’ve been to Amsterdam once before and I’d highly recommend going. It’s probably my favourite country I’ve visited so far and just a wonderful place all in all. If you get a chance to go I’m sure you’d love it Anna.
I think it’s important advice for ten year olds in some ways.
Oh it would make life so much easier, and imagine all the places you could travel to in a second as well. You could teleport halfway across the world in the blink of an eye. I haven’t seen Jumper but I may have to watch it now.
      Thanks Anna! 😀

  9. I also can’t get enough of candles! I have more than I can ever burn but they look so pretty. Can I ask what happened with the goose? 😛

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh I don’t think you can ever have too many candles. Plus they all smell so amazing that I want to collect them all too. 🙂
Well, to make a long story kind of short-ish, one a school trip we were at an amusement park/petting zoo/lake place and as me and my friend were walking around we came across a herd of geese (is a herd right? I’m not sure what you call a group of geese). Basically we must have strayed too close to them because next thing I know we have about twenty geese honking and snapping and chasing us. It was very scary for two ten years olds I can tell you that, and even know if I ever see a goose I stay well away from it.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Maybe it’s a flock? I don’t know either haha Geese are vicious! I grew up by a canal and there were always tons of Canadian geese hanging around. We would ride our bikes down the path to the park and have to pray they wouldn’t chase us. So, I totally get your fear. Such horrible creatures!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I looked it up and apparently it’s a gaggle. That sounds too light hearted though. A group of crows/ravens (can’t remember which) is a murder so from now on I’ll just refer to them as a murder of geese. Seems more appropriate for how vicious they are.
God that would be my worst nightmare, how do you do it!
