Before reading We Were Liars I’d heard all about the twist at the end, there were no spoilers for it or anything but every review I saw for this book mentioned the massive twist. Later while reading We Were Liars I thought I knew what the twist would be, and I’ll admit I was a little disappointed, but then the real twist was revealed and for the last few chapters I was still so shocked I felt like I was reading this book with my mouth hanging open. Overall We Were Liars is a brilliant book, and if you don’t see the twist coming it’s even better.

  2. I’d briefly heard of this book a few months ago, but I didn’t think any more of it. But its mysteriousness and promise of surprising twists and turns seems really intriguing. I love a good ah-hah moment LOL. I’ll be adding this one to my TBR! Thanks for sharing, Beth! ❤

    1. Honestly I hadn’t heard much about it before I picked it up myself, and then once I read it I didn’t see much more about it on WordPress either. But it is a brilliant story and one I’d really recommend as well. If you don’t see the twist coming, which I don’t think you will because hardly anyone does, then it’s such a shocking reveal!

  4. I’m so glad you’re mentioning this book, I loved it so much, and I’m also happy no one spoiled me the ending. I understand where people come from when they didn’t really enjoy this book, mainly because they were spoiled or expecting something like that to happen at the end. I think the beauty of this story is knowing nothing 😀

    1. Well this is one of my favourite standalone books, I only can’t believe it took me this long to get around to it in the first place!
      Oh same here, this is definitely a book you want to go into blind isn’t it? I think if I’d have been spoiled for it I wouldn’t have enjoyed it nearly as much myself, luckily I wasn’t. 😀

  8. Great pick! I added this book to my TBR, because I heard it’s a surreal and strange story. Exactly the kind of book I like 🙂 And an unexpected plottwist sounds promising.

      Yeah I’ve yet to see a review for We Were Liars that gives away the twist but I still think with a book like this it’s best to go in as blind as possible you know?

  11. I keep hearing about this twist and it makes me want to read the book 🙈. I remember my friend reading this a few years back and for the longest time she raved to me about it but I never got around to reading it myself. If I have the chance this year I’ll definitely have to sneak it onto my list. I always love when a book can completely surprise you. Great pick for this week, Beth! 😊♥

    1. It is an amazing twist. I think you kind of think you see it coming but you really don’t. Whatever you think about this book you’ll likely be wrong when its finally revealed; I certainly was.
      Oh you should definitely read this book Melissa, especially if one of your friends has already been raving about it previously, and if you like books that can surprise you then this is a must read! 😀

      1. Those types of twists are always the best. I love when I think I know what’s going to happen but then end up being way off. That’s how Last Seen Leaving was and it’s one of my favorites.
        I’ll have to try to get to it sometime this year. No promise with my TBR but it’s definitely a book I want to read. 😊

      2. They really are, and it was so well done in this book as well. I think of all the twists I’ve read the one in We Were Liars is one of the ones that stands out the most for me.
        I still really need to get around to Last Seen Leaving soon, and the fact that you said that about this book just makes me more desperate to get my hands on it!
        Don’t worry, I know the feeling because it’s the same with my TBR! 😀 ❤

  12. I haven’t read this book yet but I’m really intrigued by what you said! I wasn’t sure why I hadn’t ever been curious until now – I suspect it’s because everyone talks about the twist and I can’t help but to wonder if the twist, when it actually happens, seems… realistic? If everyone was so surprised by it. 😛

    1. It was a book I kind of picked up on a whim, other than the twist I had no clue what to expect, but ended up really enjoying. It’s a good read but it does tend to be a story that people either love or hate you know?
      It seemed realistic to me, and looking back I could see the little clues in the story leading up to it, it was just unexpected in that it was well revealed you know?

  16. I remember liking it, too. I’d heard the same things that you did, but tried really hard not to think about what the twist was while reading. Thanks for putting it back on my radar. I’m sure I have students who would enjoy it!

    1. It’s certainly an interesting book, and yeah I think if you know there’s a twist you can’t really help but try guessing what it is. I was incredibly wrong about what it was but the twist turned out to be better than anything I ever thought it would be.
      Ohh that’s great to hear, I hope your students enjoy this book if you introduce it to them! 😀

  17. Great pick! I read this in 2015 (I think?) and really enjoyed it. I thought it was very different and a bit strange, but all in a good way!!
