There are so many TV programs I love, and even more that are on my to-watch list, however I don’t actually have Netflix myself. Still I figured you don’t need to have Netflix to take part in this tag! I was tagged by Reg at She Latitude. Thanks so much for the tag Reg, I had a lot of fun answering these questions and I hope you enjoyed reading them as much. Everyone should definitely check out Reg’s original post and her blog as well while you’re there. Reg is such an amazing person, and she writes some brilliant reviews, among other posts.
Rules
- Choose a book or book series that best matches the prompt provided.
- Feel free to change the TV show if you’d like it to reflect your preferences!
- A blank set of the prompts is located at the very bottom.
- Link back to the creators, Christy at Novel Ink and Lauren at Bookmark Lit, and tag some friends to join in!
I didn’t do all of these prompts myself, there’s no set rule saying you have to do all of them, instead I picked the ones from the TV shows I’d actually seen.
Friends:
Best cast of characters/friendships
The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater
The friendship between Blue and the Raven Boys was one of my favourite parts of this series. If you took all the characters at face value you wouldn’t think they would work well as friends, all of them are a little screwed up in very different ways, but somehow they do. All of them prove their loyalty and love for one another more than once throughout this series.
Doctor Who:
Long series you loved
The Chronicles of Ixia series by Maria V. Snyder
With three separate series and various novellas The Chronicles of Ixia series has nine full length novels and another five novellas telling Yelena’s, Valek’s, and Opal’s stories. I picked up this series after the first three books were released and immediately fell in love, the Study series are actually three of my most re-read books, and ever since then I’ve loved how the story has developed and how much we’ve seen of the character’s lives and adventures.
How I Met Your Mother:
Bad ending
Penryn and the End of Days series by Susan Ee
There are a few series I could have picked for this prompt – The Death Cure ad Allegiant anyone – but the ending to the Penryn and the End of Days trilogy is one that just really disappointed me. It was still a good book but not anywhere near what I hoped it would be. Originally this series was supposed to be five books instead of three, and the last one felt like three books of information, plot and development crammed into one.
Supernatural:
Favourite paranormal/fantasy
In the end I just couldn’t pick only one series.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
I love fairytale retellings and the Lunar Chronicles is one of the best series I’ve read from that genre. Each book seemed to get better and better and when we finally got to Winter, at over 800 pages, it was full of action and romance, and overall it was just a brilliant ending. If you’re a fan of sci-fi, fantasy, or fairytale retellings I’d highly recommend this series.
Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab
Ever since I read the first book of this series and ever since I started this blog I feel like I have recommended the Shades of Magic trilogy to everyone I’ve spoken to on WordPress. The ending to A Gathering of Shadows was a huge cliffhanger and now I am desperate to get my hands on A Conjuring of Light. It’s released in February and that still feels like too long to wait.
The OC:
Series that should have ended earlier
The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine
When I first started this series I was addicted; the stories were fast paced, the characters intriguing, and each book ended on a cliffhanger guaranteed to make you immediately pick up the next one. However it just never ended. There was always another threat around the corner and after a while it just got too much. There are fifteen books in this series, not counting the novellas, but I stopped reading around book seven.
Parks and Recreation:
Made you laugh out loud
Soul Eaters series by Eliza Crewe
I wouldn’t have really thought this would be a series that made me laugh out loud, on a train in the middle of rush hour no less, but it really did. Meda, the main character, was hilarious; sharp-tongued, sarcastic, and unapologetic about what she needs to do to survive she always has a comeback on the tip of her tongue.
Modern Family:
Best family or parents
Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen
Although Jamie and Cora aren’t her real parents, instead her sister and brother-in-law, they instantly treat Ruby like a treasured member of the family despite the fact that she’s been estranged from her sister for years. They open their home and hearts to her, believe in her even when she doesn’t believe in herself. Both Jamie and Cora are the family members everyone deserves to have in their lives.
All Prompts:
- It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Unlikeable character(s)
- Vampire Diaries: Your ship sank or didn’t happen
- Friends: Best cast of characters/friendships
- Gossip Girl: Hate that you love/guilty pleasure
- Doctor Who: Long series you loved
- Grey’s Anatomy: All the feels
- How I Met Your Mother: Bad ending
- Supernatural: Favourite paranormal/fantasy
- Freaks & Geeks: Left you wanting more
- The OC: Series that should have ended earlier
- Girl Meets World: Should have a spin-off
- That 70’s Show: Set in a different time period
- Orange is the New Black: Couldn’t stop reading
- Parks and Recreation: Made you laugh out loud
- One Tree Hill: Favourite book boyfriend
- Breaking Bad: Favourite villain
- Modern Family: Best family or parents

Hahahh those are some pretty cool prompts you picked! Your answers, even better! Of course, Schwab’s series had to be plugged in somewhere! No worries Beth, the wait is ALMOSSSST over! 😀

Thanks so much Lashaan. I tried to stick to the prompts from the shows I’d actually watched. Made it more fun that way.
And of course, it’s a must now that V.E. Schwab has to be mentioned in all my tags. Nope, not long now. I’m so excited! 😀

Great answers, Beth! I completely agree with your choice of The Raven Cycle. Although I haven’t finished the series, yet, the friendship between the characters is one of my favorite parts about the books I have read so far. I’d have a tough choice choosing between them and the Six of Crows crew now though. I feel like the friendships in that duology really evolved by the end and I adore them. Also, the ending for Penryn and the End of Days disappointed me too. I mean I still enjoyed it overall but I was expecting so much more and it was kind of anticlimactic. I would have liked it if the series was longer but I think throughout the whole thing the author was never sure if there would be a next book and each releases sales depended on that. At one point I remember we nearly didn’t get a third book. And yes to Lock and Key!! That’s such a great example of family. That’s one Sarah Dessen book I need to reread. 😊

Thanks so much Melissa! 😀 Yeah of all the books I’ve read so far I’ve yet to read another with a friendship quite like that in TRC series. It was the first and only book that came to mind for that prompt and it just left like the perfect answer too. How far have you got into The Raven Cycle series so far then? Ohh I suppose the Six of Crows crew could count as well, I think it took a little longer for them to become a team you know, instead of a group of people thrown together for a job or something.
I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who felt that way about End of Days. It’s a shame because it could have been an amazing book but it just felt so rushed. I almost wished the series was still five books just so I could have seen how it developed over five books rather than three. Oh my god I didn’t know that, I can’t have imagined this series ending in two books, it felt rushed with three so how would it have felt with two?!
I need to re-read all of Sarah Dessen books, but she’s amazing at writing family dynamics isn’t she?

I’ve only read the first and second book and then half of the third but I don’t count that since I never got around to finishing the third book. It’s on my list of series I want to reread/finish this year. That’s true. I think that’s what I liked about it, how we saw the friendship and camaraderie grow from just being a group who were stuck together for a job. 😊
I wish them same! When I first heard about the third book being the last before it was released I remember being a little upset since it was supposed to be five books. There is so much she could have done with the world and characters. I know right? That was what I thought.
She really is! 😊

It’s an amazing series so I hope you do get around to it and finish it this year as well. I thought the books got better and better so you’ve got a lot to look forwards to with that series! It seemed real to the characters as well, it would have been strange if the second they met they were practically life long friends.
I was very upset because it was less of one of my favourite series featuring two of my favourite characters. Then I read the book and I was upset because I thought the ending could have been so much better done if they’d had five books instead of three.

I hope so too 😊. And I’ve heard that about the books getting better the further you get so I can’t wait!
I was upset too. Penryn is definitely one of my top favorite characters and it just sucked that the ending wasn’t better. I heard that there was a movie in the works but that was so long ago that I don’t know if it’s still happening or not.

I hadn’t heard that about a movie, but sometimes I think books are optioned by studios and then nothing is ever made of them. It’s kind of a maybe we’ll make this into a film rather than a definite confirmation. Still I’d love to see Penryn on the big screen! 😀

That’s true. Sometimes I forget about that fact when they start casting. There was this one book a few years back where they were even doing advanced promo and had cast most of the characters and then poof all talk of it vanished. I guess they didn’t get enough funding or the production company dropped it before they could start filming which sucks. But yeah I would love to see Penryn on the big screen too. Maybe someday! 😊

I’ve never heard of a film having casting and doing advanced promos before being cancelled. The majority I’ve seen are films where they’ve brought the rights to the book but never really made anything of it. It’s just there in case they decide to do something with it. Who knows how the film industry works. I’d love to see films of all my favourite books! 😀

I’ve only seen it happen three times and I think once was a tv show and not a movie so it seems rare. Most of the time I think it is just companies buying the rights and holding onto them. I would too! There so many books I wouldn’t mind seeing on the big screen. 😊

It’s always a shame when that happens, and a shame as well when all these books are brought by studios and never made. Everyone wants to see their favourite books on the big screen don’t they?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I know right? It’s makes me wonder if other studios ever want to do something with a book but end up not being able to because they don’t own the rights. I think most do but some don’t. I know I do. 😊
LikeLiked by 1 person
Who knows? But if you follow that line of thinking think how many potential films we could have had if the right studios had brought the rights?! 🙂

Exactly! There would be so many. I would be in book to movie adaption heaven. 😂
For the most part anyway lol.

Yes yes yes to the friendship in TRC. It’s a glorious thing, and I wish YA was filled to bursting with such realistic and well-written friendships.
And noooo End of Days, why must you be such a disappointment? I loved Angelfall, and thought World After was eh, but have continued to hold out hope that End of Days would be a solid conclusion to the series. (I hadn’t known it was originally intended to be five books; I can see why EoD would be a mess, having to do the work of three.) Bah.
Oh, I’m now very glad I haven’t read A Gathering of Shadows yet, knowing it ends in a cliffhanger. I hope A Conjuring of Light blows your socks off!
I’m about to go check out the Soul Eaters series; you have me intrigued with the the lols.
Great answers all around! And thanks for the tag! 🙂

I would LOVE to read more friendships like the one in TRC series, until that day though I’ll keep reading about the Raven boys and Blue! 😀 It’s a great series isn’t it? And one I’ll definitely be picking up again and again.
Yeah I’m not sure if it was just my expectations but like I said my friend agreed with some of the points I made so maybe not. It was still a great book it just felt too rushed in a way you know? Are you going to pick up End of Days soon.
I’m 99% sure that A Conjuring of Light will, I am so so excited for that book, and I’d definitely recommend waiting for the third to have been released before picking up A Gathering of Shadows. The cliffhanger is unreal and I am so desperate for that book at the moment. I’d highly recommend the Soul Eaters books, Meda is an amazing protagonist.
Thanks so much, and I hope you have a great time with this tag as well. 🙂

I trust your judgment on End of Days, so it’ll probably be a while before I get around to reading it. Maybe I’ll just reread Angelfall instead, and imagine my own conclusion to the trilogy!
Ha, I hope the time before A Conjuring of Light’s published passes in a flash for you!
I’m looking forward to reading about Meda; she sounds amazing. 🙂

I’d definitely be interested to see what you think of End of Days when/if you do get around to it. And actually I may re-read Angelfall and just imagine my own conclusion, seems better that way.
Fingers crossed, only two more months to go more or less. I can manage that! 😀

So, I finally started reading A Darker Shade of Magic this week and am definitely seeing what all the hype was about. 😀 I’m glad I started the series late because it’s almost complete, so no long, torturous wait for me!

Ohh that’s brilliant to hear! You’ll have to let me know what you think when you’ve finished and when you started A Gathering of Shadows as well. The Shades of Magic books are favourites and I love hearing how more people have read and enjoyed them.
Yeah, torturous is definitely an accurate way to describe the wait for the last book at the moment! 😀

Too bad that you didn’t like the ending of Penryn and the End of Days series. I didn’t know that it even ended, as I was convinced that it would have 5 books. I only read the first one, but didn’t really care much for it – I don’t tend to like books about angels, which I have found out recently.
I seriously can’t wait to continue reading The Lunar Chronicles! So far I have only read Cinder and I can’t wait to get my hands on Scarlet. The first one was seriously good and I’m very intrigued to read more about the world and characters! 🙂

I still thought it was a good book, and overall I love the series as well, it just wasn’t what I hoped for, and I spoke with my friend about it and she agreed with the points I brought up so it wasn’t just me having really high expectations. Oh that’s a shame, normally I’m not a massive fan of books about angels either but this was an exception for me. 😀
The Lunar Chronicles was amazing, and it’s a series that gets better with each book as well so you’ve got the best to come, especially given you’ve only read Cinder so far! 😀

I should do this tag, I used to watch so much TV before I re-discovered books! I totally agree about Friends / The Raven Cycle, awesome friendships all the way. I really need to read Cinder soon, I feel so out of the loop! Great picks Beth!

Oh yes definitely do Donna, I’d love to see your answers for this one! 🙂
The Raven Cycle was one I thought of as soon as I saw that prompt and well it just fit perfectly! 🙂 And yes definitely pick up Cinder, the whole series is amazing and one of my favourites so I hope you love it as well.
Thanks Donna! 😀

Thanks so much Marie! 😀 ❤ The Raven Cycle was the first series I thought of for that prompt and it was a perfect fit wasn't it?
Ha, yeah I couldn't decide between the two so I thought I'd feature them both, they're each amazing series in their own rights! ❤

Thank you for the tag!! I also don’t have a Netflix account – but I do still watch quite a few tv shows 🙂 I would have probably picked the Divergent series for a bad ending 😂😂 and the Grisha Trilogy for my ship sinking 😂. I have Angelfall on my TBR – and I have done for quite some time now … great picks 🙂

That’s all right, and I’m the same actually, no Netflix but a major TV addiction all the same. Divergent was a bad ending, but I feel I’ve complained about that enough in the past, and I didn’t mind the ending to the Grisha series although I am bitter over the fate of the Darkling still! 🙂
I hope you enjoy Angelfall, overall it’s a great series.
Thanks Lauren! 😀

Thanks so much Lauren. The friendships in TRC are the best I’ve read I think, and yes I just had to include the Shades of Magic series in this tag. ❤
Ohh, hopefully you'll enjoy it then, what book are you up to at the moment?
And that's all right, I'm looking forwards to seeing your answers for this one! 😀

Thanks for doing the tag, Beth! I’m glad you had a great time with it, and I agree with so many of your answers. Lock and Key has the best family-type cast, ADSOM was just such a great series through and through, and The Raven Cycle has such an interesting group of friends. 💞

That’s all right, thanks so much for tagging me! ❤ It was a lot of fun so I'm glad I got to take part in it. 🙂
They're not a conventional family in Lock and Key but they're a favourite of mine, and of course I had to include ADSOM as one of my favourite series too! 😀
I feel like The Raven Cycle characters were the only option I could have picked for that prompt; they were the first characters that came to mind and they just fit! ❤

This tag combines two of my favorite things – books and television – so I can’t wait to get started; thanks for thinking about me, Beth! The friendships between the boys in The Raven Cycle are absolutely charming, and I love how they are like brothers to one another. Jamie and Cora from Lock and Key are two of my favorite book “parents,” too, and I loved how they supported Ruby and helped her find her place. Loved reading your answers! x

They are definitely like brothers, and when I saw that prompt it was the only answer I could have picked for it. Cora and Jamie aren’t really conventional parents but I feel they definitely count. They certainly loved Ruby and supported her enough to have actually been her parents! 🙂
Thanks so much! ❤ 🙂
