When it comes to wine I am not a fan, in fact I’m not really a fan of any type of alcohol, but I do love books so I guess you could say that’s one of the two! I was tagged by Jenna at Fictional Neverland. Thanks so much for the tag Jenna, I had a lot of fun answering these questions and I hope you enjoyed reading them as much.
Box Wine:
A book that people will judge you for liking but you like it anyway.
Does anyone out there judge people for the books they read? There are books out there I don’t like, books I hate, and books I would never pick up myself but I know not everyone feels that way. We can’t all like and hate the same books, how boring would life be if we did?
Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter
Vassa in the Night has a lot of mixed reviews, and one thing that stood out for me that I read in a lot of them was how confusing the story was. Don’t get me wrong I found this book really confusing at times as well but that was actually what I loved about it.
Organic Wine:
A book that doesn’t have any added crap in it and is just written perfectly.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor
For a series I love I don’t talk about the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy a lot, but this is a wonderful series. Everything from the setting, to the plot, to the characters, to the writing had me hooked from the very beginning. Simple but beautiful.
Gluehwein:
A really spicy, wintry read.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus isn’t set in the winter, I can’t really say it’s set in any one season, but for some reason it’s always the book that comes to mind when I think of a winter read. There’s just something about the circus itself – the tents, the magic, the people, the food – that makes this the perfect cosy, winter book for me.
Sauvignon Blanc:
A really sharp and aggressive read that you couldn’t put down.
Blood for Blood by Ryan Graudin
There was so much happening in Blood for Blood that at times it was hard to keep up. The war is no longer a promise but an actuality, and for Yael, Luka and Felix there is so much more at stake than becoming the winner of the Axis Tour.
Pinot Noir:
A book you didn’t expect much from but ended up getting blown away.
More Than This by Patrick Ness
It’s not that I expected nothing from More Than This, plenty of people told me how amazing it was, it was more that I didn’t know what to expect. The blurb gave nothing away but I found myself hooked from the first page; and there were plenty of twist and turns that kept me guessing up until the last page.
Chardonnay:
A good summer read that was super-zesty.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan
At least with the Percy Jackson series, unlike The Night Circus, I can say it reminds me of the summer because it’s set in that season. Percy’s summer camp is unlike any I went to as a child though; instead of arts and craft he goes on epic and dangerous quests to save the world.
Rose:
A book that has a little bit of everything in it.
Penryn and the End of Days series by Susan Ee
I haven’t read a lot of dystopian books, in fact I can’t think of anything from that genre I’ve really picked up this past year, but Penryn and the End of Days remains my favourite. There are none of the tropes you see everywhere it feels like now; instead it tells the story of a girl trying to save her sister, with a lot of adventure and danger thrown in.
Shiraz:
A full-bodied book that is dark and juicy.
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
This book, this duology actually, is everything I love in YA fantasy. I could talk for hours about every little thing I loved about this book, it’s my favourite read of 2016 at the moment, but instead I will simply say to read it. Honestly if you haven’t you have no idea what you’re missing; amazing characters, well-developed relationships, a dark and gritty world, adventure, mayhem, schemes which against all odds seem to work out, and so much more.
Merlot:
A smooth easy read with a soft finish.
P.S. I Like You by Kasie West
Actually I feel any book by Katie West would work for this one. I only recently discovered her books but she has fast become one of my favourite YA contemporary authors. However as not only the first book by her I picked up but also my favourite, and given I could only choose one, I had to pick P.S. I Like You.
Champagne:
Your favourite book.
I swear this must be the question all bookworms dread, and when it comes down to it how can I choose just one all-time favourite when there are so many books and authors I love.
Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab
Put a gun to my head though and my answer would be my current favourite series, Shades of Magic. I feel like I’ve talked about this trilogy a lot recently but it’s just a brilliant series, and luckily given the cliffhanger ending to the second book the release of the third isn’t too far away now.

Nope, not a wine drinker myself either, there are plenty of other drinks I’d prefer over wine! And yep, playing the tag catch-up game. Still got a lot in my queue though. Hopefully you’ll be able to catch up on yours soon as well! 😀

Oh, we are going to be tagalicious! 😂😂🤣😉
I have A TON. But if you can do it, then I feel confident!

I think it’s more about managing the queue than getting rid of it completely. At least that’s the way I see it! 😀

More Than This is amazing, and my second favourite Ness book, so I really hope you enjoy it. 🙂

I’ve just started it and am having a blast so far – definitely struggling with the wintry read question, though! Me, too. 🙂

That’s great to hear, you’ll have to let me know what you think when you’ve finished it as well.
Yeah, kind of hard to think of wintery reads isn’t it? There aren’t many! 🙂

I definitely will. 🙂 I think the Night Circus was a great choice – I’ve only read a little bit of it but it definitely conjures those sort of cold, winter-y feelings for me, too.

Thanks Sammie! 😀 And yeah I think it has that kind of magic to it as well that reminds me of Christmas in a way as well! 🙂

I like that you went with those covers for the Daughter of Smoke and Bones series. I can’t stop being intrigued by the series when it’s shown with that cover hahaahh. I haven’t tasted many wines in my life, and I don’t even know what was what I drank the last, and only, time I drank it. I do have to say that this post does help you discover a bunch of different types of wines, but, to be honest, in the end, I’m going to end up remembering the books more than the wine hahahha Great tag and thank you for tagging us! 😀

These are the UK covers so the ones I actually own. A lot of the time I use the UK covers just because they’re the ones I have on my bookshelves.
Honestly I’m not a massive wine person either, and I don’t know many types other than ‘red’, ‘white’, and ‘rose’! I guess this post could give me some recommendations on what wines I could potentially try but I prefer cocktails AKA alcohol that doesn’t taste like alcohol! 😀
That’s all right, I can’t wait to see your answers for this one! 🙂

lol really!? I love it, Mostly white wine though. I can only do red wine on occasion, most of the time it’s too dry for me.

I’ve been told my taste for wine will come when I get older but who knows? For now there’s other alcohol I can drink so I’m fine with that! 😀

The Shades of Magic books are just amazing aren’t they? I am so excited for A Conjuring of Light as well! 😀

I live in Bordeaux and I hate wine. Such a waste 😂 I love this tag, but I sure need a drink when I see I haven’t read any of those books!
LikeLiked by 1 person
We can’t all be lovers of wine, besides there are plenty of other alcohols out there you probably enjoy more right?
Hopefully if you’ve added some of them to your to-read list you can get around to them before the need for a drink arises! 😀

Great picks, Beth! I certainly agree that Blood for Blood was really sharp a read and was almost un-put-down-able. And V. E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic series would also be my favourite series at the moment, I think. I’m not even sure what it is that made it so great, but I just love it so much. I really can’t wait for the 3rd book. 💞

Thanks so much Reg! Oh I couldn’t get enough of Blood for Blood, I almost didn’t want it to end but at the same time I couldn’t get through it fast enough.
You know now I think about it I don’t think I can really pinpoint one thing that makes me love the Shades of Magic series so much. It’s just become my favourite for some reason and, well, I’m not really going to complain (except about the wait for the 3rd book that is!) 😀

Love your answers here, Beth! I’m not much of a fan of alcohol either, which is a shame because well, erm, my hometown is well known for all the wine hahaha.
I think if I had to pick one of my favorite fantasies, I’d take the Shade of Magics as well, and who knew! About a year ago I was still hesitant about reading it. I’m so happy lots of people, you included, convinced me of its brilliance 😀

Thanks so much Marie! ❤ Oh that is a shame but I guess wine isn't for everyone, and as long as you can get different alcohol other than wine in your hometown you should be all right! 😀
I was debating between Shades of Magic and The Lunar Chronicles because both are amazing but in the end it just had to be Shades of Magic. I'm not sure why I picked it up in the first place but I'm glad I did, and I'm glad you enjoyed this series so much Marie, hopefully we'll both love the third book just as much! 😀

I am so not a fan of wine or alcohol either. I always try to find drinks that I could like, especially when it comes to wine, but they never taste right. I just don’t get the appeal and I end up taking a few sips before giving up and giving it to my sister or my parents 😂. I spy some of my favorites on here. I completely agree with you on Daughter of Smoke and Bone, P.S. I Like You, Penryn, and the Six of Crows duology. All of those are so fantastic. I actually kind of want to reread P.S. I Like You because I’ve been thinking about it lately haha. I really need to read The Night Circus and ADSOM already. I really hope I get to those next year. I really loved reading your answers for this, Beth! 😊

I was speaking to one of my work colleagues about this the other day and apparently as you grow older you start developing more of a taste for wine. It hasn’t happened for me yet so who knows if it will or does. At the moment I prefer cocktails, AKA alcohol that doesn’t taste like alcohol! 😀
Oh we do have such similar reading taste don’t we? And actually now you mentioned it I really want to re-read P.S. I Like You as well just because I’ve been talking about it lately, and I need more Kasie West, and it was such a brilliant book as well! 😀
The Night Circus is such an amazing book. I’m hoping to re-read it some point this year though who knows if I’ll get around to it before the year’s end. And obviously I’m pretty sure you know about my deep and all abiding love of the Shades of Magic series! 😀
Thanks so much Melissa. ❤

That’s interesting! I kind of hope that’s the case because I’ve always wanted to like wine. Even though it never works out 😂. Yeah, alcohol that doesn’t taste like alcohol isn’t so bad. Though I rarely finish it even when it doesn’t taste bad. 🙈
We definitely do! That’s why I always trust your recs. 😊
It really was such a great book. I will never be over it. It’s my top contemporary romance read for the year. I’m kind of thinking of doing a post and featuring all my top reads from different genres in them now haha.
I’ve heard that it’s a really lyrical book so I’m definitely intrigued because I love lyrical writing.
Yep haha! I think out of everyone on the blogosphere both you and Reg are the ones I know of that have a lot of for the SOM books. And are also both avid supporters in me reading them. I’m making them a top priority for next year.
You’re welcome, Beth!! 😊♥

Honestly I’ve never been fussed about whether I like wine or not, as long as there’s some kind of alcohol that I can enjoy, which there is, I’m happy! When it comes down to it I can drink wine, I just don’t enjoy it as much as I do other drinks.
That’s good to hear.
I’m going to do a post like that, I did one for 2015 so I’m going to do the same kind of thing for 2016 once the year is actually over! The only issue is going to be picking only one book.
I guess you could say that, honestly I’m due for a re-read so I can’t remember too much about the writing itself off the top of my head.
Well it’s good to be known for something! 😀 And I’m kind of an avid supported or EVERYONE reading them. I can’t wait to see what you think of them Melissa, I’m going to be keeping my eyes peeled for your reviews as soon as the third one is released! 😀

Now that I think about it I’ll probably have a hard time just picking one book too. I know for a fact what contemporary I’ll pick but as for fantasy there are several that were top for me this year.
I hope I enjoy the series as much as you do. Especially with everything I’ve heard about because it really does sound like a great one. I’ll definitely have a review up once I finish them. 😊

Maybe do a winner and then some honourable mentions. I reckon I’ll be able to narrow it down but it’s going to be a very tough decision, for all genres I reckon not just fantasy.
I hope so too! It’s always nice to have more fans of my favourite series to talk to so I can freak out about the books! ❤

That’s a good idea! I just might do that. At first I was thinking about including some subgenres but I like your honorable mentions idea better. 😊

Thanks for the tag, Beth! I adore these answers– and I’m a bit surprised at how few of the books you have mentioned I’ve even read! I really must work on my TBR. for example, I’ve read nothing by Kasie West. But I have read A Darker Shade of Magic! I can’t wait for the final book to be released– I will definitely binge read this entire series again. 😀

Kasie West is a brilliant YA contemporary author, honestly one of my very favourites, but at least you’ve read the Shades of Magic series. I recommend it to everyone I come across who hasn’t read it yet! 😀

Now that I’ve seen Kasie West’s name in this tag, I’ve started to notice her books referenced everywhere. Apparently, I haven’t been paying close attention to my friends book reviews. As Jacques from Finding Nemo would say: I am ashamed.
Time to hunt for her books!

Ha, that’s kind of a funny coincidence. I know I must have featured her in a few of my more recent tags and TTT posts. But don’t worry it’s something I know I’ve done as well, I usually take it as the universe’s way of telling me I need to read a certain book!
