Siblinghood of the World Bloggers Award

I was tagged by Taylor at The Book Wench. Thanks so much for the tag Taylor, I had a lot of fun answering your questions and I hope you enjoyed reading them as much.

Taylor’s Questions

  1. Which book is one of your guilty pleasure reads?

I’m going to have to go with anything from the YA contemporary genre. It doesn’t really matter what book it is or even what author it’s by; as long as it is light and fluffy story with a cute romance and a happy ending then it counts as a guilty pleasure read for me.

  1. What is your favourite book quote of all time?

“I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn’t already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race—that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.

None of those things, however, came out of my mouth.

All I was able to do was turn to Liesel Meminger and tell her the only truth I truly know. I said it to the book thief and I say it now to you.

I am haunted by humans.”

– The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

  1. What book are you most looking forward to reading?

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab. I cannot even begin to fully explain how much I need this book in my hands right now. After the ending of A Gathering of Shadows, the cliffhanger ending no less, I have been desperate to find out how everything turns out for Lila, Kell and Rhy in the third and final book.

  1. Who is your favourite person in all of history, dead or alive, and why?

Favourite is probably the wrong word to use but the person I was most interested in learning about was Jack the Ripper because there is just so much we don’t know about him and his crimes, even now. Last year I went on a Jack the Ripper walking tour with my parents and we learnt a lot more about his crimes and Whitechapel at that time.

  1. If you had to give up one of your senses, which one would you choose?

Smell. I can’t give up my sight because I love reading too much, and I can’t give up my hearing because I love listening to music too much. I love food and I’m a very tactile person so that rules out taste and touch as well. Smell was the only sense left I felt I could sacrifice.

  1. What is your favourite non-domesticated animal?

I’m not sure if owls count because I know some people keep them as pets. If they do owls are my all-time favourite animal, if not then either the highland cow or the ibex. Honestly though I could say any animal is a favourite of mine.

  1. If you could read one book for the first time all over again, which book would it be and why?

The default answer is always going to be Harry Potter but there are so many favourite books of mine that I would love to read again, just to experience the story anew and not know what’s going to happen next like I do when I re-read them. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, the Penryn and the End of Days trilogy, When the Moon Was Ours, Six of Crows, Wolf by Wolf, The Lunar Chronicles, Illuminae; I could go on like this for hours.

  1. What book that is relatively under the radar do you wish more people would read?

The Immortal Descendants series by April White. This is an incredible time travel series which I discovered a couple of years ago and fell in love with. I am a massive fan of time travel books so saying this is a favourite of mine is high praise indeed. The history is well researched, the characters incredibly developed and the stories just brilliant. Plus the first book is currently available for free on Kindle so you have nothing to lose downloading it and reading it.

  1. What are some of your favourite hobbies?

Other than reading the main one is baking. I haven’t made anything in a while but plan to for Christmas, and there are so many recipes I want to try which hopefully I’ll get around to in 2017. I guess you could say travelling is a hobby of mine as well; although I don’t have the time or money to do that as often as I’d like.

  1. What is a word that you love and what is a word that you hate?

I’m not sure if there are any words I love per say. There are certainly words I use more often than others, and if we’ve been speaking a while you can probably guess what they are; ‘excellent’, ‘anyways’, ‘you know’. Words I hate are words like ‘forwarded’, with a double D sound on the end. I tend to get them stuck in my brain and add to many ‘ed’s’ on the end.

My Questions:

I’m doing a little something different when it comes to the questions this time around. Instead of coming up with my own I’m going to ask people to answer some of my favourite questions that I got for my one year blogiversary Q&A. I hope you all have as much fun answering them as I did.

Credit goes to the bloggers who came up with these in the first place.

  3. If you could attend any Hogwarts classes, what would they be? (Lauren at Wonderless Reviews)

  1. I am haunted by humans.” I love this to pieces. The writing in The Book Thief was so beautiful.

I’m fascinated by Jack The Ripper too! I have a slight true crime obsession and unsolved crimes interest me so much. I would love to do one of those tours!

I’d also love to read Harry Potter again for the first time. I’d be really interested to see if I have different opinions.

Love your idea for the questions! Thanks for using one of mine and for the nomination 😀

    1. Definitely beautiful, even years after picking this book up for the first time that quote still sticks with me out of all the others I could have picked from that book. ❤
It's a great tour if you ever do get a chance. I learnt so much but there's still so much we don't know which yeah makes the subject fascinating to read about.
Ohh I never thought about that you know. I guess as well reading it as an adult will be different to reading it as a child and growing up with the stories and the characters as well.
Thanks Lauren, and that's all right. I can't wait to see your answers for all of these! 😀

  2. Hhahhah loved your answers! Jack the Ripper is definitely one of the most intriguing characters of all time. He also gives writers so many possibilities for wonderful stories too. 😛

  3. “I am haunted by humans” I think you and I spoke about this a few months ago on a post of mine but I love this quote so much. It resonates deeply ❤
So cool that you went on a Jack the Ripper walk tour!!! How was the area? Was it eerie or anything?
Smell is a brilliant choice! Smell also triggers a lot of good/bad memories, therefore I would also choose to live without smell.
YOU KNOW!! Oh gosh, you can ask Lilly from Lair of Books how many times I use that phrase when we send one another voice notes lol.
Thanks for tagging me! I cannot wait to do this ❤

    1. Possibly have. I feel we’ve spoken about a lot of books so far! But that is an amazing quote, probably one most people think of when they think of The Book Thief but it’s definitely one of my all-time favourites at the same time!
Parts were eerie but that could have been more the subject we were discussing than the location you know? It was definitely really interesting and a great learning experience as well. 🙂
Yeah I just can’t imagine living without any of the others.I could do without smell sometimes I’ll admit! 😀
Ha! I feel like sometimes I talk in a way people won’t understand what I’m saying. I definitely use it the most.
And that’s all right. I can’t wait to see your answers for this one! 😀 ❤

  4. That quote by The Book Thief is just so lovely. ❤

Smell would probably be the sense I choose to sacrifice as well, if I was asked that. If I think of giving up a second sense… that'd be super, super hard.

And baking! Recently I've been doing more pastry than cakes but I really miss making sweets. What's next on your to-be-baked list?

    1. Thanks Reg, it’s definitely my favourite quote from that book andthere are plentyof amazingones to choose from.
Same here actually. I guess if I had to choose a second one it would be sight. I could still read if I learnt braille and my eyesight is bad enough as it is!
Next I’m making a cheesecake for my mum, after that it will be cookies because it’s Christmas and that’s my excuse to bake gingerbread! 😀

  5. Your quote is brilliant! I’m ashamed to say I haven’t read the book yet. Yeah, better not use the word favorite to talk about Jack the Ripper, hahaha! Of course, I had to go and find The Immortal Descendants, I like time travel when it involves the Doctor OR when the author knows what they’re talking about. Oh you clever thing, you’re turning my questions back at me 😀 Thank you ❤

    1. Thanks so much Donna, there are some amazing quotes in The Book Thief but obviously the one I picked was my favourite. I’d highly recommend the book as well, it’s amazing!
Not the best word choice I’ll admit but it was interesting to learn more about him and Whitechapel in that time as well.
I hope you love The Immortal Descendants Donna. It’s a great time travel series and while I don’t know everything about history the way the books were written seems to me like a lot of research went into them.
I can’t wait to see your answers for them. I had so many great questions for my blogiversary I wanted to see other bloggers answers to them!
      That’s all right. ❤

  6. Thanks for the tag! I can’t wait to give this one ago, especially with your cool way of tackling the questions. I’ve noted down The Immortal Descendants series and will endeavour to get to it one day! Haha. And omg, that quote from the Book Thief gives me the chills every time! Such an amazing book.

I really hope you enjoy it then Kirstie, it would be great to see that series get more recognition because it is a brilliant one.
Oh same here, there are so many gorgeous quotes from that book but the one I featured is by far my favourite. 🙂

  7. Thanks so much for the tag, Beth!! 💕
I loved reading your answers for this. I’m so with you on cute, fluffy contemporaries being guilty pleasure reads. Though I’m not guilty about reading them per-say but they’re definitely my go-to when all else fails haha. Question 6 must have been so hard to answer! I wouldn’t have been able to give up any of those senses. I might have picked hearing just because you can still feel music vibrations and such. And I would definitely pick Six of Crows if I had to choose a book to read all over again for the first time. Remembering how much I enjoyed reading it makes me wish I could read it all over again without knowing what happens. Also, I love how you picked questions from your blogiversary for everyone to answer. I have the perfect answers for mine! 😂🙈

    1. That’s all right Melissa, I can’t wait to see your answers for these questions! 😀
Nah I guess guilty pleasures is the wrong word but whenever I want something light and fluffy that won’t take me long to read at all I pick up a YA contemporary book.
Actually that one wasn’t so bad. It was more just me running down the five senses and working out which one I could live without. That turned out to be smell.
That would be amazing to be able to read for the first time again. So much happened and so much was revealed it was like a rollercoaster from start to finish.
Ha, that’s all right, I loved all the questions I was asked so I just wanted to see what other people would pick for some of my favourite ones! I can’t wait to see your answers! 😀 ❤

      1. Hopefully I can get around to it soon. It’s been a while since I last did a tag. I’m going to have to get a few done during winter break. 😊
Same here. They’ve become my go to when I want something light and fluffy as well.
I would have had a really hard time answering it. Mainly because I loved reading, music, and I’m a candle addicted. I take back the hearing. I probably would have gone with touch lol.
I know right? It was so much fun reading that book the first time. I’m going to miss the series so much when I finish CK.

      2. I’m trying to get through more in this month than I may have in previous months. I’m really behind on all my tags at the moment so I need to try and get a system sorted out for getting through them ASAP.
I guess at least if you lose your sight you can always learn braille and then you’d still be able to read. I don’t think there’s anything that could replace taste, and at the same time I can’t imagine losing touch either.
I already miss the series, and I really want Leigh Bardugo to announce another series she has in the works set in the same world! 😀

      3. I’m way beyond behind. I have so many bookmarked and I feel really bad because I’ve gotten around to maybe two in the past several months. 🙈
        That’s true. There’s always braille.
I finished Crooked Kingdom last night and the ending! It’s so open. I really hope she does write more in the future because I need more. 😶

      4. I’m kind of on track but I keep changing what books I pick up each day. I’ll start one and have a plan in mind of what I want to get started on next but before I know it I’m reading something else!
I hope so too. I feel she leaves most of the endings of her stories open but it’s a great excuse to go back to that world again! 😀

      5. Ahhh the problems of a mood reader! I know those well haha. I have two weeks to finish three review books and one of them is kind of lengthy. I have a feeling I won’t make the deadline for the one I plan on reading last. 😣
        That’s true! 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      6. Being a mood reader definitely has its downfalls, but I guess there’s the fun of never knowing what you may feel like picking up next! 🙂
Oh that is a shame, is it a NetGalley book or something, with an actual deadline, or can you post it a little late instead?

        Liked by 1 person

      7. Yeah, that’s true. Plus, being a mood reader has led me to a lot of great reads. 😊
It’s a NetGalley book. I know I can still post it by the archive date and all but I’m really hoping I get it in before the release date. I have 2 to 3 review books a month until March so I don’t want to get behind. 🙈

        Liked by 1 person

      8. Same here actually! 😀
You’ve still got time so hopefully that should take the pressure off but I know what you mean. I always like posting reviews for NetGalley books before the release date too.
Sounds like you’ve got a busy few months in reading terms! I hope you don’t get behind Melissa! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      9. Yeah, well two reviews at the end of December, four in January I think and another in March, so not too bad but January will include more ARCs than I’ve ever reviewed in one month before!
Hopefully you’ll manage to get them all posted in January then, anything good on your ARC list?

        Liked by 1 person

      10. I hope so! RoseBlood and The Song Rising are my most exciting approvals. I’m reading RoseBlood right now and it’s so good so far. I also have Gilded Cage, Under Rose Tainted Skies, and Piper Perish. Oh and also The Sky between You and Me which is a book written in verse that I’m pretty excited about. Kind of a good mixture between genres and formats. What about you? 😊

        Liked by 1 person

      11. I would definitely hope The Song Rising would make your most excited for list! 🙂 Also I hope you enjoy the rest of them, I’ve actually read Gilded Cage as well and I really enjoyed it actually. The rest sound pretty good as well, definitely a good mixture there.
I have Wayfarer, Caraval, Frostblood, Wintersong, A Crown of Wishes and Heartless which I am currently reading now. It’s good so far! 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      12. Mine will be a rave-ish review. I won’t be posting it until closer to the release date but I am going to be writing it later tonight. I’ll be interested to see what you think of it Melissa.
Yeah I’m excited to get around to all of them, and then to obviously review them all! 😀
