Wordless Wednesday: Home Sweet Home

Wordless Wednesday is a new weekly tag created by Grace at Kimmie.gg. Each week there’s a new topic, unrelated to books, which will hopefully provide some insight into my life outside of reading.

Each week, I will post a topic for a Wordless Wednesday that you may answer in whatever fashion you may like. All you need to do is link back to Kimmie.gg in your post so that I can also read your content!

This week’s theme was Home Sweet Home, and while I have already wrote a post about my home town for the Souvenirs From Across the World feature I enjoyed being able to go back and share more pictures from both Southend and London. After all, despite only living in Southend (at the moment at least) I spend enough time in London that it really does count as my home away from home.

Southend

Southend is where I have lived my whole life. It’s a small town, probably not on many people’s lists if they ever decide to come over to England, but it’s home. We have the beach, the longest pier in the world (which has burnt down a few times already), and as soon as the temperature improves even a little we have queues of people arriving trying to get down to the seaside.

London

London is where I have worked for coming up on two years now, and one day it’s where I hope to live as well. As the capital of England it’s the one place people think of to come and visit whenever they think of England, and it’s easy to see why. There’s so much history to see, for example the Tower of London, but also a lot of modern sights as well, for example the Shard.

So, what do you think; did you take part in this week’s Wordless Wednesday or will you be taking part in next week’s? Also what is your home city like; what would you say is the best thing about your home and what, if anything, do you wish you could change? Let me know in the comments.

  1. You are makin me SO nostalgic of my holidays right now! I’m kind of sad we didn’t have a great weather while in Southend, but you made everything better of course πŸ˜€ I can never get enough of London, really, and already I can’t wait to get back to this fantastic city. You’re so lucky to be able to go there every day πŸ™‚

    1. I would say I’m sorry but on the other hand, yes, visit England again.
I feel the bad weather is part of the overall England experience but it sucks you had it on your trip. And thanks, I was glad I could make it a little better for you! ❀️
I can never get enough of London either, no matter how often I go into the city I always love it just so much! πŸ˜€

  2. Southend looks so gorgeous! I live an hour from the beach but Galveston is definitely not that gorgeous (it’s actually not pretty at all but it’s the beach I grew up on πŸ˜‚). And that pier! I feel like it would be an amazing place to visit. Also, those pictures of London! I’ve wanted to travel there for as long as I can remember. One day, one day. πŸ™ˆ

    1. I may be a little biased but Southend is gorgeous! πŸ˜€ It’s always that way about your own town though isn’t it?
I’m not sure where Galveston is but I’m sure there’s something pretty about it.
It would be amazing if you could come visit; either Southend or London. I think you’d really enjoy it over here, but yes one day! πŸ˜€

      1. True! I think everyone has a love for their hometown but also secretly wishes they lived some where else at times. Or at least I do πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ.

Galveston is in Texas, the state I live in 😊. Personally, I enjoy it. But it’s on the Gulf Coast so even though it’s ocean water it’s a bit closed in which means the water isn’t sparkly blue like the East or West Coast because we don’t get a lot of the currents. People here complain but I don’t mind it haha. 😊

It would be! I need to save up travel money. There’s so many places I want to visit.

      2. Nah I’m the same, I think it would be amazing to live in another country but at the same time I can’t ever imagine leaving England!
Technically Southend is on the mouth of the Thames Estuary, not a proper sea either. But I guess Southend-on-Sea sounds a lot better than Southend-on-Thames-Estuary.
Same here, I honestly do want to be able to visit every country in the world at least once! πŸ™‚

      3. I wouldn’t mind moving from the US or even just the state I live in. I’ve always wanted to live more up north. I really want to move to Ireland one day. It’s so gorgeous there and I just want to get a little apartment and spend my days writing. (My dream life πŸ˜‚)

But same! I want to be able to visit at least every country at least once. There’s so many different places and cultures and it would be amazing to see all of them. β™₯

      4. I always through if I ever did move away from the UK I’d live in Amsterdam. I went there on holiday with my family a few years back and just fell in love with the city, it remains one of my favourite places today! (Also that sounds like my dream life as well!)
Exactly, why spend your life in one place when there’s so much out there to see! πŸ˜€

  3. I love all the photos and both towns. Southend definitely has a “home” vibe, very warm and home welcoming in a way. I’ve always wanted to visit London and I plan on doing just that in a few years. I read that you wanted to move there eventually, I really hope all the best for you ❀

    1. I think I’ll always think of Southend like that, home-y, no matter where I end up living. It’s where I grew up so I’ll always love it there! πŸ™‚
London is amazing so I’d definitely recommend visiting if you find yourself with the opportunity, you won’t regret it!
I hope so too, it’s where I work so living there would just be a lot easier when it comes to my commute!
      Thanks. ❀️

  4. I love all of your pictures, Beth! πŸ™‚ I was planning to visit England sometime next year, and after seeing your hometown from the post you wrote for SFATW, I’ve since added your town to the list. It looks so adorable. It reminds me of the seaside town where I have a vacation home except it looks even better and hopefully less congested. My house is nice in the off season when all of the tourists leave. πŸ˜‰ I bet you have certain times of the year like that. And London has been on my list of places to travel ever since my dad went when I was a little kid and I had to see it through his postcards. Great post! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks so much Jill. Ohh it would be amazing if you did come to visit, especially if you manage to make it in the summer. Nearly everything shuts down in the winter and it won’t be nearly as interesting then!
I don’t know if I’d actually be able to live away from the seaside actually, it’s just always been there but although we have our days when it’s really busy most times it can be quite quiet. Mainly bank holidays so yeah the holiday seasons.
London is just probably my favourite part of England so even if you just come over for that I’d highly recommend it! πŸ˜€
      Thanks. ❀️

      1. I’m definitely coming to visit in the next year. I had heard about your town years ago, but seeing it again in your pictures really put it on my places to visit list. I was thinking it would be cool if I came in the summer and went to the book fair in London. I can’t remember the name of it. London is a definite. I was thinking I should probably not fly into Heathrow since it’s notoriously chaotic. Maybe a smaller airport instead.

      2. Ohh that would be amazing, also do you remember where you heard about Southend before. I feel like it’s strange people have heard of it before I mention it, you know. There are some beautiful sights to see either way!
Do you mean YALC? That’s where I went earlier this year and I had such a fun time, it would be amazing if you made it as well (I’m planning my visit there in 2018!)
Yeah Heathrow will be busy, I think Stansted is the smallest of the London airports so maybe look into that one!

      3. I dated a guy from London years ago. I don’t know if I heard about Southend from him or if I saw it in a travel magazine. I can’t remember. Yes, that’s it. YALC. I was completely drawing a blank. I remember your post on it. I’ve wanted to go since I read it. Thanks! Good tip! I’ve heard stories about the wait at Heathrow, which is very typical for big airports with high volume.

      4. Ahh, OK, I was just curious because most people, even people from England who I work with in London, haven’t heard of Southend before I mention it and then describe in detail there it actually is! πŸ˜€
Ohh, glad I could inspire you to come to London and spend loads of money at a book convention. It was the best weekend I’ve had in a while and it’s just amazing! I’m sure you’ll love it if you do come along.
I haven’t heard horror stories but I’ve experienced them at Gatwick myself so I get where you’re coming from there!

  5. Ohh, Southend looks gorgeous! Can I come visit? πŸ˜€ Of course London would be amazing, too. I only ever managed to spend a night in Heathrow Airport – which really isn’t the greatest place in the world πŸ˜€

    1. Oh yes definitely come and visit! πŸ™‚ I’d recommend in the summer though because Winter everything pretty much shuts down for the cold weather, perks of living in a seaside town!
London is just beyond amazing, and yeah a bit of a shame the most you’ve seen of it is Heathrow Airport. How did that end up happening, was it a connecting flight or something!

      1. That’s exactly what it was! πŸ˜€ Spent 8 fantastic hours (at night) in Heathrow Airport, mostly wandering around aimlessly because I couldn’t sleep – so yeah, it was not the most amazing experience πŸ˜€
