Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which shines a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week my pick is;

replica

Replica by Lauren Oliver

Publisher: HarperCollins

Release Date: 4th October 2016

Goodreads

Gemma has been in and out of hospitals since she was born. ‘A sickly child’, her lonely life to date has revolved around her home, school and one best friend, Alice. But when she discovers her father’s connection to the top secret Haven research facility, currently hitting the headlines and under siege by religious fanatics, Gemma decides to leave the sanctuary she’s always known to find the institute and determine what is going on there and why her father’s name seems inextricably linked to it.

Amidst the frenzy outside the institute’s walls, Lyra – or number 24 as she is known as at Haven – and a fellow experimental subject known only as 72, manage to escape. Encountering a world they never knew existed outside the walls of their secluded upbringing , they meet Gemma and, as they try to understand Haven’s purpose together, they uncover some earth-shattering secrets that will change the lives of both girls forever…

I’ve heard a lot about Replica recently; both from people who are really excited about the book and people who have an ARC and are already in love with the story. Seeing everyone’s excitement has really kick-started mine. Replica sounds like an amazing book and from what I understand it uses a unique method to tell of Gemma’s and Lyra’s story.

So what does everyone think; is Replica a must on anyone else’s to-read list or are there any other books that you can’t wait for to be released?

    1. I have it on my bookshelf now. It was part of my to-read list this month but I don’t think I’m going to be able to get around to it after all. Still it will be number one on my to-read list for next month! I’m glad you enjoyed it, I’ve been hearing great things about it so far. πŸ™‚

      1. Yeah, only…what? A month? I can handle that…it’s the books that don’t come out until next year that frustrate the hell outta me…::cough, cough:: Heartless ::cough, cough::

    1. Thanks so much Marie! I do know that, I think you were the reason I added the Delirium series to by TBR list, so I’m guessing you’ve got to be more excited for this book than I am! πŸ™‚
It does sound amazing, and clearly it’s a book that lives up to its promise because everyone who has an ARC has loved this book as well! πŸ˜€ I’m sure we will too! ❀️

  1. I’ve heard a lot of great things about this one as well so I must admit I’m excited too! I love the concept and the way it’s set up reminds me of this book called Flipped that I read in middle school. Nothing similar about the stories at all by I’ve never seen another book set up in a similar fashion so just that fact intrigues me. Great pick! 😊

    1. Same here, it was mainly the things everyone was saying that was making me want to pick this book up once it’s released as well.
I think it’s a unique way to tell the story, and I guess that reminds me of Illuminae which once again is nothing similar but it’s not a standard story just in the format of the book.
I guess with books like this you do pick up on the odd similarities, even if it’s just the way the book has been set out. πŸ™‚
      Thanks! ❀️

      1. It really is! And the interactive aspect of certain books like that and your example of Illuminae really keep a lot of readers coming back. That and the great story line! Though I haven’t had the chance to pick up Illuminae yet I’ve heard great things about that one too. It’s another one on my read before the end of 2016 list lol.

      2. Oh definitely. The second book in the Illuminae Files series, Gemina, was one of my most anticipated releases for this year just because I couldn’t wait to see how it was formatted!
Illuminae is amazing, is highly recommend picking up as copy as soon as you get a chance, you won’t regret it! πŸ™‚

  2. I think I will get it from the library when we get it. It is compelling and peaking my interest since it does seem to be a science fiction, or speculative fiction, novel with the added twist of genetics (or maybe I am just reading into it too much). Have you read Project Cain? I think you may enjoy it.
Come check out what I am eagerly waiting for!

    1. Hopefully your library will get a copy in quickly then! And yeah it doesn’t sound like any other book I’ve read so far but that’s making me more interested in the story. I haven’t read Project Cain but I’ll definitely check it out, thanks for the recommendation.
And I’ll definitely check out your WoW post as well! πŸ˜€

  3. I can’t wait for this book since Lauren Oliver is one of my favorite authors. I’m going to New York Comic Con and I really hope I can snag a copy there and Lauren can sign it for me *crosses fingers* I love that it can be read in multiple ways. Have you decided which way you’re going to read it?

    1. I haven’t read any of her books yet but Replica just sounds amazing!
And wow New York Comic Con sounds amazing, you must be so excited! I hope you manage to get a copy there, and that you get it signed as well! πŸ™‚
I’ll end up reading one story and then the other. I think if I try and do it in alternating chapters I’ll just find it really disjointed reading you know. What about you?

  4. I’m also really looking forward to Replica! Love that it can be read from back to front/front to back or even read 1 chapter from the front & 1 chapter from the back simultaneously. It sounds confusing right? but it intrigues me even more, leave it to this person to want to complicate her life lol. It has received positive feedback which is great. No duds for Fall of 2016 please! Great pick for this week’s WOW! πŸ˜‰

    1. It certainly sounds like a really unique way to tell the story and I can’t wait to see how it works as well. I’ll probably end up reading all of one story and then reading all the other. I think flipping the book over every other chapter would just get annoying after a while but you never know. Maybe I could do it both ways! πŸ˜€
I’ve yet to see a bad review for Replica, which is amazing, and you’re right there doesn’t seem to be any books I’m eagerly anticipating that people have not enjoyed!
      Thanks! πŸ˜€

      1. That’s probably how I’m going to read it as well. I watched a Booktuber (think it was BooksandLala) who read a chapter each & decided to ditch the effort & start again one side at a time instead. Seems easier & probably more enjoyable. Either way, can’t wait to have all these new fall releases to lose myself in πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

      2. I think I’d just find it too disjointed to read the story like that, and yeah after a while if end up giving up and going back and reading the book one story at a time rather than one chapter at a time.
Gonna be a busy few reading months! I can’t wait! πŸ˜€
